Raspberry Beret
1 2 1 2 3
Yeah
I was working part time in a five-and-dime
My boss was mr. mcgee
He told me several times that he didnt like my kind
cause I was a bit 2 leisurely
Seems that I was busy doing something close 2 nothing
But different than the day before
Thats when I saw her, ooh, I saw her
She walked in through the out door, out door
She wore a
Raspberry beret
The kind u find in a second hand store
Raspberry beret
And if it was warm she wouldnt wear much more
Raspberry beret
I think I love her
Built like she was
She had the nerve 2 ask me
If I planned 2 do her any harm
So, look here
I put her on the back of my bike
And-a we went riding
Down by old man johnsons farm
I said now, overcast days never turned me on
But something about the clouds and her mixed
She wasnt 2 bright
But I could tell when she kissed me
She knew how 2 get her kicks
She wore a
Raspberry beret
The kind u find in a second hand store
Raspberry beret
And if it was warm she wouldnt wear much more
Raspberry beret
I think I love her
The rain sounds so cool when it hits the barn roof
And the horses wonder who u are
Thunder drowns out what the lightning sees
U feel like a movie star
Listen
They say the first time aint the greatest
But I tell ya
If I had the chance 2 do it all again
I wouldnt change a stroke
cause baby Im the most
With a girl as fine as she was then
(raspberry beret)
The kind u find (the kind u find)
The kind u find (in a second hand store)
Oh no no
(raspberry beret)
(and if it was warm)
Where have all the raspberry women gone? (she wouldnt wear much more)
Yeah (raspberry beret)
I think i... I think i... I think I love her
(raspberry beret)
No no no
No no no (the kind u find)
(in a second hand store)
(raspberry beret)
Tell me
Where have all the raspberry women gone? (and if it was warm she)
(wouldnt wear much more)
(raspberry beret)
I think I love...

Keep bustin'!
Dig if U will the picture
Of U and I engaged in a... kiss
U don't have 2 be beautiful 2 turn me on
If we can not make babies
Maybe we can make some time
(Baby, U're so creamy)
She said how'd U like 2 waste some time
And I could not resist when I saw little Nikki grind
Nikki, oh
Don't worry, I won't hurt U
I only want U 2 have some fun
Baby, baby, baby I'm a star (Star, ooh)
Might not know it now
Baby, but I are, I'm a star, eh (Star, ooh)
I don't wanna stop 'til I reach the top, oh
Ow!
If I gave U diamonds and pearls
Would U be a happy boy or a girl?
All I can do is just offer U my love
All I can offer U is my love
I never meant 2 cause U any sorrow
I never meant 2 cause U any pain
I only wanted one time 2 see U laughing
Only want 2 see U laughing in the purple rain
Dearly beloved
We are gathered here 2day 2 get through this thing called life
Sexy dancer, I want your body, want your body
Sexy dancer, dance
Sexy dancer, I want your body, want your body
Sexy dancer, dance
Ahhh!
Work it baby, work it
Let's work {x2}
I've had my eyes on U
Ever since U walked in the room
Come on and take my hand
Don't try 2 understand
Hey baby, nothing can stop us now
I'm gonna show U how, oh yeah
Show U how 2 work
Come on, let's have some fun
We'll work till the morning comes
Yeah yeah, I wanna see U work
Come on
Every Friday night I call yo ass up on the phone
A deeper voice answers and says U're not at home (Sexy {x4})
If U think that I'm some fool who'll go 4 that silly line
Honey, put down all your money U win everytime, oh (Sexy {x4})
Oh, irresistible bitch - I love the way U walk (U sexy mutha...ow!)
Irresistible bitch - I love the way U talk
Irresistible bitch - I love the way U kiss (U sexy mutha...ow!)
Ain't it a shame?
Huh, I wish I could resist
I ain't trying 2 pressure U baby
But all I ever wanted 2 do
I wanna be your lover
I wanna be the only one that makes U come running
I wanna be your lover
I wanna turn U on, turn U out
All night long make U shout
Ooh, lover, yeah!
I wanna be the only one U come 4
Yeah {x4}
I'm goin' down 2 Alphabet Street
I'm gonna crown the first girl that I meet
I'm gonna talk so sexy, she'll want me from my head 2 my feet
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Talk 2 me lover, come and tell me what U taste
Didn't your mama tell U life is 2 good 2 waste?
Talk 2 me lover, come and tell me what U taste
Didn't your mama tell U life is 2 good 2 waste?
2 good 2 waste, 2 good 2 waste
Didn't your mama tell U life is 2 good 2 waste?
Love come quick
Love come in a hurry
There are thieves in the temple 2night
The moon up above shines down upon our skin
Whispering words that scream of outrageous sin
If that's what we are
We all want a love bizarre
If I was your girlfriend
Ooh, if I was your girlfriend
Would U let me wash your hair?
Could I make U breakfast sometime?
Would U let me pick out your clothes?
Would U let me drive U 2 work?

And the sculptor woman was so clever in the way she did it. She had the beret just about to leave my hand. So it's attached to this finger and that's what will keep it there. And I'm looking up at it, so there's no question but that that beret is going to fly.

Savor Da Flavor
She's got that flavor I love to savor
I'll lick your flavor baby, anytime
'Cause she's got raspberry, boysenberry, strawberry and lemon lime
I heard about the man that was eating his shoe
And the three-headed lady said how do you do
You brake to take, but it ain't no mistake
It just don't make no kinda sense to you
Just sitting there, won't you get control of yourself
It was the 3rd of May and now it's June the 12th
So stop you lop, I get the pick of the crop
Savor da flavor
Raspberry, boysenberry, strawberry and lemon lime
Her waves in motion, start a commotion
I'll take her potion any day or time
Like an illusion, spreading confusion
She know's she's using it and that's just fine
I could have been a rumor, but I like what I hear
So I took it one step further
Threw it out of the rear
Do you wait or hate or retaliate
And I take a little dance with the fear
Not a pretty lady trying to take it on me
But she's got a little sister, that's the place I'll be
In a line, she's fine and she's gonna be mine
Savor da flavor
Raspberry, boysenberry, strawberry and lemon lime

Blue Beret
Life is sometimes shorter than you think
So take yourself a hike from the kitchen sink
Me, I like to roam
Wasnt built in a day
And night throws the stars in our way
Meanwhile on planet earth
Some people are dying for the right to say
Some people are dying cause the other people busy blowing them away
Well, were all dying so we better have a ton of fun along the way
I say hats off, get your hats off, take your hats off, get your hats off
For the blue beret
Blue beret, blue beret
The wind has blown it off his head
And sent it spinning straight to nowhere
Nowhere to get ahead in this life
Life is sometimes longer than you need
Especially if its thrown away on hate and greed
Well, me I like to think while the other fish swim
But sharks made a meal out of him
Meanwhile on bone dry land
Some people are dying for the right to say
Some people just want the right to say
Some people are dying cause the other people busy blowing them away
Some people are merely blown away
Well, were all dying so we better have a ton of fun along the way
I say hats off, take your hats off, get your hats off, take your hats off
To the blue beret
Blue beret, blue beret
The wind has blown it off his head
And sent it spinning straight to nowhere
Nowhere to get ahead in this life
So just love your dog and dont kick your wife
Put down that knife, watch out the windows,
And blow your hat away

The Raspberries in My Driveway
Nature will bear the closest inspection . She invites us to lay our eyes level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain.
-Thoreau
The raspberries
in my driveway
have always
been here
(for the whole eleven years
I have owned
but have not owned
this house),
yet
I have never
tasted them
before.
Always on a plane.
Always in the arms
of man, not God,
always too busy,
too fretful,
too worried
to see
that all along
my driveway
are red, red raspberries
for me to taste.
Shiny and red,
without hairs-
unlike the berries
from the market.
Little jewels-
I share them
with the birds!
On one perches
a tiny green insect.
I blow her off.
She flies!
I burst the raspberry
upon my tongue.
In my solitude
I commune
with raspberries,
with grasses,
with the world.
The world was always
there before,
but where
was I?
Ah raspberry-
if you are so beautiful
upon my ready tongue,
imagine
what wonders
lie in store for me!

Raspberry Hives
The ancient man
with raspberry hives
on his cheeks
since childhood
will live alone
no longer.
He'll marry, he says,
the first woman who'll have him.
Till now
he has wanted
to die
as he's lived,
alone in his room
with the radio playing,
the water in the bathtub
dripping.
The drone of hours,
however, has become
the drone of years
and the ancient man
with raspberry hives
on his cheeks
since childhood
fears death will convert
his hives into pocks,
take his body
but reject his soul.
For reasons
he can't articulate,
he believes
if he weds
the first woman
who'll have him,
death will have reason,
for the first time,
to do the job right.

Raspberry canes
In and out the raspberry canes
"On a jack-frost bitten day:
With nothing more than twine,
and knife…
To earn my daily" pay.
Bending back the line of whips!
From: "Lands-End to John o' Groats"
These willowy viaduct sticks…
…Seemingly it will, never end.
In and out the raspberry canes
"With nothing burning on my mind:
Accept the numbing" hail and rain.
And the wisps of empty time!
Bending, back the line of whips:
Beneath a solemn; grey stone-sky.
Under the derogatory east-wind!
A hells purgatory; cry!
From: "Lands-End to John o' Groats"
…Seemingly it will, never-end:

Phobia
Phobia
Once in Paris, I was going to a venue reading poetry, the hotelier told me to take
the subway as it was easy. After being a fender for busy people I found my train
and suffocated. First stop, I ran off and found myself at a strange part of the city,
sweating and shaking like d drunk who had been on a bender for a fortnight.
Phobia! I didn´t even know I had one, my pipe dream of being a u-boat captain
had sunk in a hole of terror. My instinct, when lost in a strange place, is to find
the nearest tavern/bars, there are many taverns in Paris it was easy to find one.
I had Pernod, not that I like this drink, but after all I was in France; to blend in
I wore a black beret given to me by a relative of my wife who runs a hat factory
in Lyon, and I had had garlic bread for breakfast. But was unable to lift the glass,
my left hand wouldn´t let me, the right hand blankly refused and pretended to
be lame. Finally hiding, behind the Guardian- an English newspaper for people
who see themselves as liberal socialists-. I gulped down the horrid drink. It did
wonders. So I ordered a whisky, I was a hero, nothing could scare me
as I walked bravely out into busy streets full of people who looked at me as if they
had not seen a beret before, and looked for a taxi.

Thousands of Women
Then, I open my eyes
And
Embrace thousands of women
In you that lost in shadows and doubts
Behind raspberry bushes
Behind the cricket that chirps into my ears
Every night!

Choices
i prefer smooth peanut butter
to crunchy
mind you
crunchy is all right
but i prefer smooth.
i prefer strawberry jam
to raspberry
mind you
raspberry is tasty
but it's got all those seeds
and i prefer strawberry.
i prefer mustard
to mayonaisse
mind you mayonaisse has it's place
amongst condiments
but is likely to go bad
if left out to long
and poison everyone
so on the whole i prefer mustard.
i prefer cooked meat
to raw meat
for much the same reason
as i prefer mustard to mayonaisse
although it also has to do
with the fact that i don't
like my meat to bleat
or moo or make chicken noises (BAGOCK!)
when i eat
so i tend to avoid the raw
though mind you
the meat that i prefer
may at some time have been raw.
i prefer not to say
why i think so
but i do
and i suppose it's all
just a matter of taste
so if you'd prefer to think so
then crunchy is better
than smooth
even if it does interfere
with the texture of the
peanut butter
and jelly (strawberry) sandwich
which ought to be somewhat
devoid of substance
merely a sticky sweet something
to fill your stomach
put mayonaisse on it
if you like
i'd prefer not to think about it.

Raspberry Letter 22
(Dedication/Inspiration: The Brothers Johnson)
Today's the day,
Where another piece of my heart,
Comes home to stay,
Reward for your patience,
Dedication to making this work,
In our arms, we find ultimate comfort,
A sweet love that could never hurt.
They said this long distance,
Would cause our relationship,
To end in an instant,
But while I'm away from your beauty,
Imagery of you cuddling in my arms,
Stroking you hair ever so gently,
Your luscious perfume,
Seducing me with Chanel #5,
Brings our love to the bedroom,
Where you and I feel most alive.
Here's my lovely gift to you,
Raspberry Letter 22,
To let you know,
You're always on my mind,
Reminisce of how our paths intertwined,
Our love and passion is one of a kind.

Riding In
raven hair
held by
a silver pin
something turn
of century about
the elegant curve
of cheek
the way she
turns easily
away her small
hand gripping
the bright chromium
pole a raspberry
scarf wound
loosely round
her neck she
will say
nothing I
will say
nothing back
as she moves
through the door
a lovely
white boat lifted
by a gentle wave
gently further out

I Remember You As You Were
I remember you as you were in the last autumn.
You were the grey beret and the still heart.
In your eyes the flames of the twilight fought on.
And the leaves fell in the water of your soul.
Clasping my arms like a climbing plant
the leaves garnered your voice, that was slow and at peace.
Bonfire of awe in which my thirst was burning.
Sweet blue hyacinth twisted over my soul.
I feel your eyes traveling, and the autumn is far off:
Grey beret, voice of a bird, heart like a house
Towards which my deep longings migrated
And my kisses fell, happy as embers.
Sky from a ship. Field from the hills:
Your memory is made of light, of smoke, of a still pond!
Beyond your eyes, farther on, the evenings were blazing.
Dry autumn leaves revolved in your soul.

You and Jackson Pollock.
How's the girl
with the red beret?
your sister asked
she'd seen you
and Janice
and her gran
on the way home
from school
she probably walking
with her friend
following behind
and Janice said
I made a picture today
out of cut up
pieces of paper
and the teacher said
it was the best
she'd seen
her gran said
Now now Janice
mustn't boast
I expect
there were other pictures
equally as good
But teacher said it
not me
Janice replied
Did you make a picture?
her gran asked you
her eyes falling on you
and taking in
your look
like a rabbit caught
in headlamps of a car
in the night
Yes
you said
I made a picture
of a morning sunset
out of red and yellow
and green for the grass
and blue for the sky
Janice smiled
and touched your hand
surreptitiously
her small hand
feeling along
your skin
Did you make it
out of cut up
pieces of paper too?
her gran asked
you sensed Janice's fingers
squeezing into your hand
No
you replied
I did it with water colour paints
and what did teacher say?
her gran asked
she said it reminded her
of a Jackson Pollock
whoever he is
you said
looking at Janice's red beret
and her hair
coming from beneath
so wonderfully
unlike your
short back and sides
and unlike her hair
with its red coloured
hair slides.

Janice and You and Shared Love.
Janice met you
as you walked
across the bombsite
from the New Kent Road
to Meadow Row
you watched
as she trod
carefully over
bricks and stones
some half buried
under the settled
earth and mixed brick
her hands held out
like some tight-rope walker
and she saw you
and smiled
and said
Gran said I can come out
if I'm with you
so I came looking for you
and here you are
yes
you said
my usual place
amongst many
she stopped
where the ground
was even
and held her hands
in front of her
holding a small bag
you looked at her
in her red beret
and grey coat
her black shoes
and white socks
and she said
where are we going?
you looked at her bag
and said
what's in the bag?
a small handkerchief
and purse
with six pence
and a penny
and a bar of chocolate
we can share
she said
where are we going?
she repeated
where do you
want to go?
Waterloo
to watch the trains?
she said
I know you like them
ok
you said
and you both
headed back
to the bus stop
on the New Kent Road
and stood there
waiting for the bus
she in her red beret
and coat
and you
in your jeans
and pullover
with the wiggly pattern
and she opened
her bag
and took out
the bar of chocolate
and broke it
in two
one for her
and one for you
wrapped in
its silver paper
and purple cover
just like two grown ups
each giving
to their lover.
