Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues
When you're lost in the rain in juarez and it's eastertime too,
And your gravity fails and negativity don't pull you through,
Don't put on any airs when you're down on rue morgue avenue,
They got some hungry women there and they really make a mess outa you!
Sweet melinda, the peasants call her the goddess of doom,
She speaks good english and she invites you up into her room.
And you're so kind, too careful not to go to her too soon,
Then she steals your voice and leaves you howling at the moon!
Up on housing project hill it's either fortune or fame,
You must pick one or the other though neither of them is what they claim,
If you're lookin' to get silly you'd better go back to from where you came,
Because the cops don't need you and man they expect the same!
I started out on burgundy but soon hit the harder stuff,
Everybody said they'd stand behind me when the game got rough,
But the joke was on me - there was nobody there to even call my bluff,
I'm going back to new york city i do believe i've had enough,
I'm going back to new york city i do believe i've had enough!

New York City Boy
When youre a boy
Some days are tough
Lying on your bad
Playing punk rock and stuff
Home is a boot camp
You gotta escape
Wanna go and wander
In the ticker-tape
You feel the deal is real
Youre a new york city boy
So young, so run
Into new york city
New york city boy
Youll never have a bored day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway
The street is amazing
The hoochies unreal
Check out all the hardware
At the latest deal
Hear a song
Thats the bomb
If you dont get the mix
Its got eighty-six
You feel the deal is real
Youre in new york city
New york city boy
Youll never have a bored day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway
New york city boy
This is your reward day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway
Then as the evening falls
You can return its calls
You feel the deal is real
Youre a new york city boy
So young, so run
Into new york city
New york city boy
Youll never have a bored day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway

New York City
Standing on the corner
Just me and yoko ono
We was waiting for jerry to land
Up come a man with a guitar in his hand
Singing, have a marijuana if you can
His name was david peel
And we found that he was real
He sang, the pope smokes dope every day
Up come a policeman shoved us up the street
Singing, power to the people today!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Well down to maxs kansas city
Got down the nitty gritty
With the elephants memory band
Laid something down
As the news spread around
About the plastic ono elephants memory band!
And we played some funky boogie
And laid some tutti frutti
Singing, long tall sallys a man.
Up come a preacherman trying to be a teacher
Singing, gods a red herring in drag!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Well we did the staten island ferry
Making movies for the telly
Played the fillmore and apollo for freedom
Tried to shake our image
Just a cycling through the village
But found that we had left it back in london
Well nobody came to bug us
Hustle us or shove us
So we decided to make it our home
If the man wants to shove us out
We gonna jump and shout
The statue of liberty said, come!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
New york city...back in new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?

New York Groove
Many years since I was here, on the street I was passin my time away
To the left and to the right, buildings towering to the sky
Its outta sight in the dead of night
Here I am, and in this city, with a fistful of dollars
And baby, youd better believe
Chorus:
Im back, back in the new york groove
Im back, back in the new york groove
Im back, back in the new york groove
Back in the new york groove, in the new york groove
In the back of my cadillac
A wicked lady, sittin by my side, sayin where are we?
Stop at third and forty-three, exit to the night
Its gonna be ecstacy, this place was meant for me
Feels so good tonight, who cares about tomorrow
So baby, youd better believe
Chorus
Im back, back in the new york groove (repeats out)

New York
New York, New York
A city that breathes endlessly
Dollars are spent carelessly
New York, New York
A city of squares and blocks
And the Stars roll and rock
While tourist flock
Like sheep cornered in squares
Entertainment, clubs and theatres
Is all that seems to matter
Twenty four seven
Alive in heaven
New York
A taxi takes you round and round the blocks
I end up in Madison Square
Where I started out twenty minutes before
But who cares?
This is New York
Every where there are open doors
New York, New York
A city that never sleeps
Everywhere you must leave a tip
But this city is worth the trip
New York, New York
A city of numbers and avenues
And elongated queues
It is true
I see now, I know now
About what they say about New York!

Got to get away from here....
Got to get away from all these thinkers...drinking up my thoughts again
Got to get away from here...
Got to get away from all these choosers, losers..all my best of friends
Sit back New York City
You're not cute but you're oh so pretty
When the rain comes you fall up again...
SUNNY...You are a part of me
SUNNY...You are the heart of me
Got to get away from here....
Got to get away from all these people who need people...You know it really makes me sick
Got to get away from here...
Got to get away from expectations, recreations, just for the sake of it
Sit back New York City
You're not cute but you're oh so pretty
When the rain comes you fall up again...
SUNNY...You are a part of me
SUNNY...You are the heart of me
Sit back New York City
You're not cuet but you're oh so pretty
When the rain falls you come up again
Sit back New York City friend...
Got to get away from here...
Got to get away from what I'm thinking..I'm thinking...it's too much for anyone...
Got to get away from here...
Got get away from what you're drinking...you're drinking...so I'll take another one

Another Rainy Day In New York City
Another rainy day in new york city
Softly sweet, so silently it falls
As crosstown traffic crawls
Memories in my way in new york city
Tender, tough, too tragic to be true
And nothing I can do
City workers cheer
The taxis disappear
Another rainy day in new york city
Another spacey stay in new york city
High up in an overpriced hotel
The view is really swell
Windy, wet and gray in new york city
No one here I really want to see
Old friends and family
So suddenly serene
The air is fresh and clean
Another rainy day in new york city
Its another rainy day
Just a rainy, rainy day
Its another rainy day
Just a rainy, rainy day

Central Park N West
(ian hunter)
The gulf and western garbage
Just aint the prettiest smell
When youre sleeping on the 4th floor up
Its like a living hell
New yorks finest rounding up the bums
The firemen get no rest,
And ambulances signal death, on central park n west.
Now there aint no sheets upon my bed,
Just a mattress and some wine.
The rain is pouring through the night
And Im glad my life is mine.
When frank carillo plays guitar
Trying to get it off his chest.
He gets the words he needs tonight
On central park n west.
And I think, I think, I think, I think, I think its the best,
When Im locked in the middle of new york city on central park n west
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know its a mess,
But youve got to be crazy to live in the city, and new york citys the best.
And we all want just someone just like me
In the city we call home.
She leaves me sometimes when I write,
cause I write better on my own.
Bag ladies take my dollars)
Put my conscience to the test.
But waitresses give me coffee free
On central park n west.
So sing soul woman, sing the songs)
Its time to sing them now.
Im getting more than high from hearin em
Dont sing them quiet, sing them loud.
For you sang with the best of them
But now youre just a guest.
I tell you well get a hotel room
On central park n west.
cause I think, I think, I think, I think, I think its the best,
When Im locked in the middle of new york city on central park n west
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know its a mess,
But youve got to be crazy to live in the city, and new york citys the best.
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, oh yeah.
I think, I think, I think, I think, I think its the best,
When Im locked in the middle of new york city on central park n west.
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know its a mess,

New York, New York
Start spreadin the news, Im leavin today
I want to be a part of it, new york, new york
These vagabond shoes are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it, new york, new york
I want to wake up in a city that doesnt sleep
And find Im king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues are melting away
Ill make a brand new start of it in old new york
If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere
Its up to you new york, new york
New york, new york I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps
And find Im a- number one, top of the list, king of the hill, a- number one
These little town blues, are melting away
Im gonna make a brand new start of it in old new york
And if I can make it there, Im gonna make it anywhere

Nyc Man
It can only lead to trouble if you break my heart
If you accidentally crush it on the ides of march
Id prefer you were straight forward
You dont have to go through all of that
Im a new york city man, baby, and say go and that is that
New york city man, you just say go and that is that
Im a new york city man, you just say go and that is that
Its far too complicated to make up a lie
That youd have to remember and really why
I wouldnt want to be around you
If you didnt want to have me around
Im a m-a-n-n man, you blink your eyes and Ill be gone
M-a-n-n man, you blink your eyes, honey, I love you, Ill be gone
New york city man, you blink your eyes and Ill be gone
Brutus made a pretty speech but caesar was betrayed
Lady macbeth went crazy but macbeth ended slain
Ophelia and desdamona dead leaving hamlet in a play
But Im no lear with blinded eyes, say go and I am gone
The stars have shut their eyes up tight
The earth has changed its course
A kingdom sits on a black knights back
As he tries to mount a white jeweled horse
While a clock full of butterflies on the hour
Releases a thousand moths
You say leave and Ill be gone
Without any remorse
No letters faxes phones or tears
Theres a difference between bad and worse
Im a new york city man, blink your eyes and Ill be gone
New york city - man, m-a-n, you blink your eyes and Ill be gone
New york city, I love you, new york city man
New york city, how I love you, blink your eyes and Ill be gone
Just a little grain of sand
New york city, ooohhh, how I love you
New york city, baby, blink your eyes and Ill be gone
Oh, how I love you

Naked City
All the victims have turned to stone, no one is happy, theyre all alone
Id sacrifice my social position tonight
In new york, millionaires, and lonely people with lonely stares
Im not lookin for love and Im lost in this night
In the naked city (in the city) there are ten million stories (naked city)
Im not lookin for pity (in the city) in this naked city (naked city)
Street vampires in the night, young lovers and love at first sight
This is my flesh and my fantasy
Older women with younger men, Ive got a feelin Im in trouble again
But Ive got to live my destiny
In the naked city (in the city) its a race with the devil (naked city)
All the pain and the sorrow (in the city) is there more tomorrow (naked city)
In the naked, naked city (in the city) naked city
Lonely people lookin for someone, lonely people goin their way
Lonely people lookin for something, lonely people goin their way
In new york, millionaires, lonely people with lonely stares
Im not lookin for love and Im lost in this night
In the naked city, there are ten million stories
Im not lookin for pity in this naked city

Smokey Put The Sweat On Me
Ive known some women in every state
New york city to the golden gate
Ive lived with some, and buddy, I loved em all. (yes, I did)
But no one woman had a claim on me
cause I still had a lotta world to see
And I sometimes stagger, but sugar, I seldom fall.
Then like a hungry man, I went to louisiana
Where the lovin and the livin was good
Without a care to hide and just as satisfied as I could be.
A lotta women and wine and not a tie to bind me
And behaving just as cool as I could
til that long legged, sweet walkin ravenhaired cajun lookin
Devil put the sweat on me
They call her smokey, shes a little bit-a evil
Smokey, right as wrong can be.
Smokey, she could shake the very devil
Smokey put the sweat on me.
Oh, my pulse is a beatin to the clickety clack
Of this one-way ride thats gonna take me back
And my bodys just a-breathin in that mississippi river smell
Well, my feet wasnt ready yet for settling down
But my soul kept tellin me to turn around
And the longer I tried to fight it, the harder I fell
And like a hungry man, I went to louisiana
Where the lovin and the livin is good
Ill get a brand new bride and be as satisfied as I can be
And I wont even mind the world Im leavin behind
Because I never really thought that I could
til that long legged, sweet walkin ravenhaired cajun looking devil
Put the sweat on me.
They call her smokey, shes a little bit-a evil
Smokey, right as wrong can be
Smokey, she could shake the very devil
Smokey put the sweat on me
Smokey put the sweat on me
Awww, smokey put the sweat on me.

New-York-City Sad Song
I am in New York City, but New York City,
It does not belong to me. You understand?
I am in New York City, but New York City is not in me.
What do I mean? Listen, I am from Chicago, Illinois.
Been in New York City for thirty-five years.
I am a New Yorker! You must understand!
Nope, nope, I probably confuse you.
What happens here? I have some examples.
Take the Second Avenue Subway. It doesn't exist!
City continues the project as long as I remember.
Seventh Avenue, midtown calls it, Fashion Avenue;
Yet garment making and design,
Do they play any role in today's American trade?
And the neighborhoods, they all look the same.
Look down the blocks. What do you see?
Corporate interests and franchise,
Dunkin' Donuts and big-time banks,
And, on almost every other corner,
Drug-store chains hawking their wares,
That's the story, the moms-and-pops, those stores,
Those stores are gone.
I notice more begging,
People seeking handouts more today than I ever recall.
The murder rate spikes. The poor kill the poor;
Children shoot other children.
And the City's once renowned middle class forced to flee,
I see a Great Migration,
A town left to ladies with big, diamond engagement rings,
And babies pushed in fancy perambulators.
By the way New York City's mayor,
He is the richest man in the state.
And you, yes, you, too,
You are not around much anymore.
How seldom I see you during the course of a year!
I am lonely without you.
I miss your not being home with me.
Nowadays, you go abroad
And, when you return, we go for dinner.
I only see you once in a while and then for a short time.
Ever notice all the lottery tickets which losers leave
On counter tops, and discard to the floor?
Seems many people hope to change their luck.
You follow? You understand what I mean?
I am in New York City, but New York City is not in me.

8th Avenue Shuffle
Patrick simmons
Hey, hey, honey, whats on your mind
Well, you said that sleepin with a poor bands not your style
Aint that just a little unkind
Hey, marlon brando, what would you do in a spot like this
I dont play as your pawn tonight
Doin the new york hustle with a hundred dollar miss
Summer night in the city
New york girls they always make you feel so fine
Theres music, and I can always hear it playin
New york nights and theres music in the streets
A doin the eighth avenue shuffle on a friday afternoon
With the hum of a thousand engines
Singin that old familiar tune
And now yakety yak and dont talk back
When a guy lay me down with my pontiac
Tell those high school queens of mine that the
Prom was for your monkey shine
Try n a catch a cab in new york city
New york girls are oh, so pretty
Try n a catch a cab in new york city
New york girls make you feel so fine
Try n a catch a cab in new york city
New york girls are oh, so pretty
Try n a catch a cab in new york city
Music in the streets
Another night, another town
Im out on the road and thers no one around
And its rainin, yeah, its rainin
Silence is all around
Its cold and lonely, oh darlin, if only I could feel it
Oh, can you feel it
Eighth avenue shuffle on a friday afternoon
With the hum of a thousand engines
Singin that old familiar tune
Hey, marlon brando, do you agree it feels so fine
Doin the new york hustle
These girls are doin the monkey shine
Summer night in the city
New york girls they always make you feel so fine
Theres music, and I can always hear it playin
New york nights and theres music in the streets

Daddy Dont Live In That New York City No More
Daddy dont live in that new york city
No more
He dont celebrate sunday on a saturday night
No more
Daddy dont need no lock and key
For the piece he stowed
Out on avenue d
Daddy dont live in that new york city
No more
Daddy dont drive in that eldorado
No more
He dont travel on down to the neighborhood
Liquor store
Lucy still loves her coke and rum
But she sits alone
cause her daddy cant come
Daddy dont drive in that eldorado
No more
Driving like a fool out to hackensack
Drinking his dinner from a paper sack
He says I gotta see a joker
And Ill be right back
Daddy dont live in that new york city
No more
He cant get tight every night
Pass out on the barroom floor
Daddy cant get no fine cigar
But we know youre smoking
Wherever you are
Daddy dont live in that new york city
No more

A Heart In New York
New york
To your tall skyline I come
Flying in from london
To your door
New york
Lookin down on central park
Where they say you should not wander
After dark
New york
Like a scene from all those movies
But youre real enough to me
But theres a heart
A heart that lives in new york
A heart in new york
A rose on the street
I write my song to that city heartbeat
A heart in new york
Love in her eye
An open door and a friend for the night
New york
You got money on your mind
And my words dont make a dimes
Worth a difference
So heres to you new york
New york
Now my plane is touching down
