Harper Valley Pta
I want to tell you all a story bout a harper valley widow wife
Who had a teenage daughter that attended harper valley junior high
Well her daughter came home one afternoon and didnt even stop to play
And she said, mama, Ive got a note here from the harper valley pta
Well the note says mrs. johnson, youre wearing your dresses way too high
Its been reported youve been drinkin and a runnin round with men and goin wild
Now we dont believe you ought to be a bringin up your little girl this way
And it was signed by the secretary, harper valley pta
Well it happened that the pta was gonna meet that very afternoon
And boy, were they surprised as mrs. johnson wore her miniskirt into the room
And as she walked up to the blackboard I can still recall the word she had to say
She said Id like to address this meeting of the harper valley pta
Now theres bobby taylor sittin there and seven times hes asked me for a date
And mrs. taylor sure seems to use a lot of ice whenever hes away
And mr. baker can you tell us why your secretary had to leave this town
And shouldnt widow jones be told to keep her window shades all pulled completely down
Now mr. harper couldnt be here cause hes stayed too long in kellys bar again
And if you smell shirley thompsons breath youll find shes had a little nip of gin
And then you have the nerve to tell me as a mother you think that I aint fit
Well this is just a little payton place and youre all harper valley hypocrits
Now I wouldnt put you on because it really did, it happened just this way
That day my mama socked it to the harper valley pta
That day my mama socked it to em at the harper valley pta

Joe Harper Saturday Morning
Well you thought I was a stranger when you looked upon me, when I came by
But to take you from disaster I cannot master, (the four winds...shy ? ? ? )
And the roamin in the gloamin you have brought, and set before me
And I think that its an omen, Im just not what so many people see.
And you shine your glory all around
Do not disguise what we did
I asked you for half a pound, and you said -
Go see joe harper, saturday morning, kid
Go see joe harper, saturday morning, kid.
And the child held a ball in the garden, with the old queen
And you kissed the lips and heart in all the (stranger? ), you know what I mean
And you walked on in the streets all lonely, in your own childish way
And you thought that you would only - do it for today.
And you shine your glory all around
Do not disguise what we did
I asked you for half a pound, and you said -
Go see joe harper, saturday morning, kid
Go see joe harper, saturday morning, kid.
And just went outside the club and the rain came down on his head and it got all soaking wet.
He said go for yourself, I said I know, sure joe, I aint conquered yet
And I walked away from the backstreets and the rain, and the (song? ), how many times have I died?
And we turned on outside of the bus shelter and I jumped on and said goodbye.
And I shine my glory all around
Do not disguise what I did
Tried to keep it underground and they said -
Go see joe harper, saturday morning, kid
You gotta, go see joe harper, saturday morning, saturday morning...

Musical magic a logarhyme
The ancient harper starts to play.
All background noises fade away.
We sit spell bound
We are transported to the past.
Times iron rule is overcast
by his sweet sounds.
The present ceases to exist.
The silver notes will long persist
to be profound.
The ancient harper cannot see.
His eyes don’t work effectively
He can’t look round.
But we can see and we can hear.
We’re privileged to be here.
Applause resounds.
The harper starts to play again
A soft and gentle sweet refrain.
I am dumbfound.
As are the whole audience
The music holds us in suspense.
We are held bound
By the spell the harper weaves
and will be til the harper leaves.
We’re still spell bound.

The Hogarth Experiment Part 3
Police Constable Broadworth
was sent from the station
to go to see if he could locate Joe Harper
after a frantic phone call from his surgery.
It would seem as if he had missed
several of his appointments,
which was not like Joe at all.
He cycled down the same lane
where Joe Harper’s car was parked.
He could hear his car still running.
The scene that greeted him
was not he had expected.
The car was in the lane,
but Joe Harper was no where about.
Broadworth shouted out his name,
but got no reply.
Broadworth dismounted from his bike.
He felt it strange that Jo Harper
would have left his car running.
Broadworth searched the area
after turning off the engine of the car.
Joe Harper was nowhere to be found.
It was as if he had vanished into thin air.
He put his bike in the back of the car,
then drove it to the nearest farm
and telephoned the station
to inform them what he had found.
Even though the war was over
the battery near the town
was still occupied by three men.
It was about a half a mile from the hamlet.
The three privates there
were brewing themselves a cup of tea.
A humming sound unlike anything
they had ever heard grew louder.
They stood up and grabbed their rifles.
They gazed around,
but nothing could they see.
Suddenly shadows passed over them.
Each felt a chill run down their spine.
They loaded theirs rifles and fired
as the shadows came overhead again.
They reloaded and fired a second volley.
The humming sound got louder
as if it was amplified a thousand times.
After they fired each volley
one of the soldiers fell.
There seemed no defence
from these shadows from the sky.
To be continued…

Valley
Wake hard in the morning.
See the young girl milking.
Stream rushing by on a bed of stone.
Old goats and sandstone cracking --
All containing --
Squeezing that river like it squeeze your bones.
In the long red, red valley people live here too long.
In the long red, red valley they only sing the valley song.
Some bad people living further down the valley,
Not easy for us to do good trade.
We got snowmelt, snowmelt sweet water.
They got that valley road that they made.
In the long red, red valley people dying here too long.
In the long red, red valley they only sing the valley song.
Holding hands on the hillside.
Showing love to your brother --
Your sister and your mother --
But we hate those people down the valley.
Has anybody seen moses?
Get him off that mountain.
Bring back the tablets of stone.
Its a wise, wise prophet who keeps his own council.
Yeah, leave the other mans wife alone.
In the long red, red valley people live here too long.
In the long red, red valley they only sing the valley song.
Wake hard in the morning.
See the young girl milking.
Stream rushing by on a bed of stone.
Old goats and sandstone cracking --
All containing --
Squeezing that river like it squeeze your bones.
In the long red, red valley people living here too long.
In the long red, red valley they only live the valley song.
In the long red, red valley people dying here too long.
In the long red, red valley they only know the valley song.

Through The Valley
(After James Thomson)
As I came through the Valley of Despair,
As I came through the valley, onmy sight,
More awful that the darkness of the night,
Shone glimpses of a Past that had been fair,
And memories of eyes that used to smile,
And wafts of perfume from a vanished isle,
As I came through the valley.
As I came through the valley I could see,
As I came through the valley, fair and far,
As drowning men look up and see a star,
The fading shore of my lost Used-to-be;
And like an arrow in my heart I heard
The last sad notes of Hope’s expiring bird,
As I came through the valley.
As I came through the valley desolate,
As I came through the valley, like a beam
Of lurid lightning I beheld a gleam
Of Love’s great eyes that now were full of hate.
Dear God! dear God! I could bear all but that;
But I fell down soul-stricken, dead, thereat,
As I came through the valley.

Valley Of The Dolls
Into the valley of the dolls
Into the valley of the dolls
Into the valley of the dolls
Went the gang of four
Song number one and the rhythm up amping
Drummer beats down 4/4 rock ranking
A bass so deep thud thud spines shaking
And all around mad eyes are rolling
Made up and stunning
As the feet get moving
As the pressure rising
White faces staring
As into the valley of the dolls
- go the gang of four
Song after song rockettes up rocking
One hundred watts scream man
My ears are bleedin
Hot bodies charged blonde locks a givin
And all around - young girls are fainting
Their hearts a pumpin
As the spikes are dancing
Shank girl shanking
I saw love vibrating
As into the valley of the dolls
- go the gallant four
Into the valley of the dolls
Into the valley of the dolls
As into the valley of the dolls
4 skulls are splitting
5 fingers are clicking
6 strings are burning
7th hour approaching
8 legs are stomping
9 lives are groovin
10 thousand coasting
X generating
As into the valley of the dolls
Into the valley of the dolls
Into the valley
Into the valley of the dolls

Peace In The Valley
Well, I'm tired and so weary
But I must go along
Till the Lord comes and calls me away
Where the morning's so bright
And the Lamb is the light
And the night, night is as fair as the day.
There will be peace in the valley
For me some day
There will be peace in the valley
For me, Oh Lord I pray
There'll be no sadness
No sorrow, no trouble I see
There will be peace
In the valley for me.
Well, the flowers will be blooming
And the grass will be green
And the skies will be clear and serene
Where the sun ever beams
In this valley of dreams
And no cloud will be seen.
There will be peace in the valley
For me some day
There will be peace in the valley
For me, Oh Lord. I pray
There'll be no sadness
No sorrow, no trouble I see
There will be peace
In the valley for me.
Well, the bear will be gentle
And the wolf will be tame
And the lion shall lay down
By the lamb, oh
And the beasts from the wild
Shall be led by a child
And I'll be changed,
Changed from this creature that I am.
There will be peace in the valley
For me some day
There will be peace in the valley
For me, Oh Lord I pray
There'll be no sadness
No sorrow, no trouble I see
There will be peace
In the valley for me...

Jesus Walked That Lonesome Valley
(trad.)
Youve got to walk that lonesome valley
Well you gotta go by yourself
Well there aint nobody else gonna go there for you
You gotta go there by yourself
Now mother walked that lonesome valley
Now mother walked, she walked it by herself
Well there aint nobody else could ever walk it for her
She had to walk it, she had to walk it by herself
Youve got to walk that lonesome valley
Well you gotta go by yourself
Well there aint nobody else gonna go there for you
You gotta go there by yourself
Now father walked that lonesome valley
Now father walked it, he walked it by himself
Nobody else could walk it for him
Well he had to walk it, he had to walk it by himself
Youve got to walk that lonesome valley
Well you gotta go by yourself
Well there aint nobody else gonna go there for you
You gotta go there by yourself
Now john was a baptist
He was some folk say he was a jew
He wrote that holy holy bible
The Bible tells you, it plainly tells you
That he was, that he was a preacher too
Youve got to walk that lonesome valley
Well you gotta go by yourself
Well there aint nobody else gonna go there for you
You gotta go there by yourself
Youve got to walk that lonesome valley
Well you gotta go by yourself
Well there aint nobody else gonna go there for you
You gotta go there by yourself

In The Valley
My grandfather went down with the montevideo
The rising sun sent him floating to his rest
And his wife fled south to sydney seeking out safe harbour
A north shore matron she became with some paying guests
My father went down with the curse of big cities
Traffic tolls and deadlines took him to his peace
Now bob dyer glued us to our seats
And lawns were always victa neat
Whilst menzies fawned at royal fleet do you remember?
In the valley I walk, I took some comfort there
In the valley I walk, cold comfort I can hear you talk
In the valley I walk, who will take me there?
When my mother went down it was a stiff arm from hades
Life surprises and tears you like the southerly
She always welcomed the spring always welcomed the stranger
I dont see too many around like this
Oh no, thats what Im looking for, yeah, what were looking for
In the valley I walk - who will take me there
In the valley I walk - cold comfort I can hear you talk
In the valley I walk - I took some comfort there
In the valley I walk - oh rough justice I hear you talk
In the valley I walk - to meet my watershed
I hpoe virtue brings its own reward
And I hope the pen is mightier than any sword
I hpoe the kids will take it slow
I hope my country claims its own
In the valley I walk - I cried yes I cried I was down then I crawled
Mercys arms all around me when I was down there
In the valley I walk - do you read me they can hear me in the valley

Turlough Carolan
He was blind and illiterate that much of him we know
And still his music is with us from centuries ago
He had creative genius and his genius still shine through
A rare gem Turlough Carolan one of the chosen few.
The harper of the county Meath in music live today
His music known around the World in Countries far away
And Carolan's concerto still very much alive
The only test of genius is when their work survive.
The only test of genius is when their work live on
For centuries and centuries when they are dead and gone
And Carolan has passed that test a name to celebrate
His music live three hundred years the genius of the great.
A son of peasant parents and destined to be poor
And though addicted to alcohol his genius remained pure
I like that saying it says it all 'can't keep a good man down'
And the name of Turlough Carolan was destined for renown.
I just switched on the radio to hear the D.J. say
This is a tune from Ireland from Ireland far away
Carolan's farewell to music, oh let the music play
The music of the harper the harper lives today.

Valley Of Red
The Valley of red
Was once my Valley of green
Before, the killings took place,
No longer do birds fly overhead
For they can’t, rest their heads.
The trees are all gone
And so are all the hills
They are now, barren fields,
So now the Valley of red
Is my Valley of green
And that, now is my dream.

The Valley Road
While no one was looking on the old plantation
He took her all the way down the long valley road
They sent her away not too much later
Left him walking down the old valley road.
Sometimes I lead, sometimes I follow
This time Ill go where she wants me to go
She said maybe today, maybe tomorrow
Go deep in the woods down the long valley road
Walk on walk on little doll walk
Walkon little doll
Out in the hall they were talkin in a whisper
Everybody noticed she was gone a while
Somebody said she was gone to her sisters
Everyone knew what they were talkin about.
While no one was looking on the old plantation
He showed her what they do down the long valley road
Came back around like nothin really happened
Left him standing on the old valley road
Walk on walk on little doll walk on
Walk on little doll
Walk on, walk on the valley road
Standing like a stone on the old plantation
Rich old man wouldnt ever let him in
Good enough to hire, not good enough to marry
When it all happens, nobody wins
Walk on walk on little doll walk on
Walkon little doll etc

Blue Valley Songbird
She was born in a place called blue valley
At the foot of the tennessee hills
With the blue birds and blue bells
And blue mountain water
And the sound of the blue whippoorwill
But there was no peace in the valley
Her daddy, a cruel, ruthless man
Used and abused her mind and her body
So her mama said run while you can
So at fifteen she took to the highway
Belongings and guitar in hand
And she buried herself in her music
The one thing she did understand
And she sings like a bird and she writes like a poet
Her voice has that high, lonesome sound
She hurts, and her songs are the best way to show it
So the blue valley songbird keeps traveling around
She hopes someday she will make it
And everyone says that she will
When she comes to town, crowds flock around
To see the girl from the tennessee hills
She writes her letter back home to her mama
In care of the preacher in town
Theyre sacred to her so she reads them at church
And so her daddy cannot track her down
And she sings like a bird and she cries like a baby
Whenever she turns off the lights
Shes a whole lot lonesome and a little bit crazy
From memries and miseries and dreams gone awry
Blue dress, blue shoes, a blue cadillac
A band dressed in blue by her side
Instruments tied to the top and the back
cause the blue valley songbird is singing tonight
One nighters, honky tonks, years flying by
She never made it, but lord knows she tries
Expressing the feelings she holds inside
And the blue valley songbird is singing tonight
Oh the blue valley songbird is singing tonight
And she sings like a bird and she writes like a poet

Memorial Day
(carly simon)
It should have been so soft, this morning as we left
But the valley was infected, by a different kind of beauty
And the indians they knew, it was a devils sanctuary.
Out of this unholy dawn, a car came stirring up the sand
And a woman from a passion play
Held up the limousine that brought me
All this way today. and I didnt need to turn around
So strong was the message, and the man who planned her life
Commanded all that followed: well they bellowed, and they hollered
And they threw each other down, down in this valley
This cruel and lovely valley, oh it should have been an alley
In some low down part of town
As the lights came up, there was no sun
And brandy splattered all over the ground
As this woman with her head held high
Yelled love and why oh why, youre killing me oh follow me-
As I watched safe and clean, from the frosted windows of that limousine
Well they bellowed and they hollered, and they threw each other down
Down in this valley, this cruel and lovely valley
Oh it sould have been an alley, in some low down part of town
Before hed been so funny, imagining the best:
That hed escaper recrimination, for abandoning the nest
Hed been joking and stoned, while he was entertaining me
But then turned and was stunned, by her panic and her misery
And I was in the get-away car
Giving him a chance, to get away
Get away, get away
And how the valley smoked, as he crossed route 25
With his cymbals and his shattered crown, leaving all alone
His eyes fixed on the ground. and he didnt even turn around
So strong was the message, and he fell into the shallow sky
And was swallowed.
Well they bellowed and they hollered, and they threw each other down
Down in this valley, this cruel and lovely valley
Well it should have been an alley, in some low down part of town

Suddenly Theres A Valley
(chuck meyer, biff jones)
When youve climbed the highest mountain
When a cloud holds the sunshine in
Suddenly theres a valley
Where the earth knows peace with men
When a star hides the distant rainbow
And you think you cant find a friend
Suddenly theres a valley
Where friendships never end
Touched only by the season
Swept clean by the ? rain
Surveyed by every bluebird
And kissed by the falling rain
When you think theres no bright tomorrow
And you feel you cant try again
Suddenly theres a valley
Where hope and love begin
Suddenly theres a valley
Where hope and love begin

Propinquity (I've Just Begun To Care)
by Gerry Goffin & Carole King
The local rock group down the street
Is trying hard to learn their song,
They serenade the weekend squire
Who just came out to mow his lawn.
Another pleasant valley Sunday,
Charcoal burning everywhere,
Rows of houses that are all the same,
And no one seems to care.
See Mrs. Gray, she's proud today
Because her roses are in bloom,
And Mr. Green, he's so serene,
He's got a TV in every room.
Another pleasant valley Sunday,
Here in Status Symbol Land,
Mothers complain about how hard life is,
And the kids just don't understand.
Creature comfort goals, they only numb my soul,
And make it hard for me to see.
Ahhh...thoughts all seem to stray to places far away,
I need a change of scenery.
Ta ta ta ta, ta ta ta ta... (etc.)
Another pleasant valley Sunday,
Charcoal burning everywhere.
Another pleasant valley Sunday,
Here in Status Symbol Land.
Another pleasant valley Sunday,
(A pleasant valley Sunday)
Another pleasant valley Sunday,
(A pleasant valley Sunday)
(fade out)

Valley Of Sound
Move me
Dont try
Let the music reach me tonight
Push me over into something new
Ive been riding all day on a bus
Just to listen to you
I love, I love, I love I love the look
In your trespassed eyes
I love, I love, I love I love the way
You can make me cry
Sink me into stirred-up sea
Something I can drown in
Only you can do this to me
I love, I love, I love I love the look
In your trespassed eyes
I love, I love, I love I love the way
You can make me cry
Fill me up
And drop me down, yeah
Now Im alive in the valley of sound
In the valley of sound
In the valley of sound, yeah
In the valley of sound
I love, I love, I love I love the look
In your trespassed eyes, yeah
I love, I love, I love I love the way
You can make me cry
Yeah yeah, in the valley of sound
Hmm, the valley of sound, yeah yeah yeah
Valley, valley, you can,
The valley of sound
Yeah.
