The Guy in the Bar

he thinks hes smart, the guy in the bar
he picks up his keys, heads to his car

he slips as he stands, falls to the floor
he gets up, fumbles as he opens the door

he gets to his car, drops the key
will he get home tonight safely

he climbs into his seat, behind the wheel
starts it up, saying to himself'no big deal'

he puts the car into gear
driving he has no fear

he takes off fast, driving off the curb
he comes to a light, lets out a burp

as he pukes down on his chest
still thinking he knows whats best

as hes cussing, the light changes red
drinking, is something he will soon dread

thinking it's the brake, he hits the gas
he runs the light, he's to going to fast

he finally gets home, all safe and sound
climbs out of his car, falls asleep on the ground

wakes up in the morn, stinking, sick and weak
swears he wont drink again, then comes next week

he thinks hes smart, the guy in the bar
he picks up his keys, heads to his car

he gets to his car, he drops the key
BUT, will he get home tonight safely?

Come Safe

Trace back the years, like faded scars.
Remind me that you were always there.
What I've forgotten can be learned with time.
And time is all we have.

So come home, & come safe.
You're all I've never wanted,
but needed to have to be okay.
So come home, come safely home.
Bring back what my memory's erased.

Remembering a faded smile.
Folded, tucked safely in a silver box.
You're miles away, but you're here tonight.
I'll pour over each picture until you come alive.

So come home, & come safe.
You're all I've never wanted, but needed to have to be okay.
So come home, come safely home.
When that smile hits your eyes, I know you'll stay.

Let it resonate with you, let it cover your every hole.
Let the silence fill this empty room until it becomes your homes.
Let the darkness of tonight be your guiding light,
let it drive you home.

So come home, & come safe.
You're all I've never wanted,
but needed to have to be okay.
So come home, come safely home.
One kiss goodnight, everything is alright.

So come home, & come safe.
You're all I've never wanted,
but need to have to be okay.
So come home, come safely home.
When that smile hits your eyes, I know you'll stay.

What's for lunch?

It's ten past noon,
he lays there on his couch.
Watching television,
empty stomached.

It's thursday afternoon,
six thousand kilometers away.
She sits by her toy rock,
starved, and dehydrated.

He picks up the remote,
changes channel.
His stomach gently grumbles,
What's for lunch? he wonders.

Temperature rises past thirty-five
She fiddles with the dirt.
Her stomach endlessly roars
What's for lunch? she dreams.

Thrity minutes later
the doorbell rings.
He picks up his twenty
and pays the delivery man.

Sixty seconds later,
a beetle crawls by
she springs to her feet.
and thanks her lord

He wipes his greasy mouth
on his sleeve
and leaves his unfinished grub
and falls asleep.

She enjoys her lunch
but feels very weak.
sick and tired
she falls asleep

Two hours later
he is awakened by thunder.
throws out his leftovers
and begins to read the news.

Two minutes later
she is drenched by rain,
she looks at the sky
and opens her mouth with a smile.

He puts down the paper,
and finally gets up
to cook his next meal.
What's in the fridge? He thinks.

She shivers in the rain,
orphan, and deseased
she walks towards some foiliage.
I am safer now. She hopes.

He ends his meal,
and leaves his house.
Climbs into his truck
and drives off to a bar.

Now the rain has stopped,
she prays and kisses her rock
and falls asleep.
wet, frail, poor, hungry.

Midnight, he arrives
back to his cozy home,
and falls asleep.
Warm, wealthy, happy, full.

Nothing awakes her,
her stomach painfully growls.
She takes one last breath,
but too weak for one more.

The alarm clock awakes him
It's nearly eleven,
getting out of bed he wonders
what's for lunch?

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

Take me out tonight
Where theres music and theres people
And theyre young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I havent got one
Anymore
Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and i
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please dont drop me home
Because its not my home, its their
Home, and Im welcome no more
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I dont care
I dont care, I dont care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought oh god, my chance has come at last
(but then a strange fear gripped me and i
Just couldnt ask)
Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I dont care
I dont care, I dont care
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I havent got one, da ...
Oh, I havent got one
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
Oh, there is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out

The Greatest

Little boy, in a baseball hat stands in the field with his ball and bat.
Says, "I am the greatest player of them all" puts his bat on his shoulder and he tosses up his ball.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down swings his bat all the way around
The world so still you can hear the sound, the baseball falls to the ground.
Now the little boy doesn't say a word, picks up his ball, he is undeterred.
Says, "I am the greatest there has ever been" and he grits his teeth and he tries it again.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down swings his bat all the way around
The world so still you can hear the sound, the baseball falls to the ground.
He makes no excuses, he shows no fear, he just closes his eyes and listens to the cheers.
Little boy, he adjusts his hat, picks up his ball, stares at his bat
Says,"I am the greatest, the game is on the line" and he gives his all one last time.
And the ball goes up and the moon so bright, swings his bat with all his might
The world's as still, as still can be, the baseball falls and that's strike three.
Now it's suppertime and his momma calls, little boy starts home with his bat and ball.
Says, "I am the greatest, that is a fact, but even I didn't know I could pitch like that!"
Says, "I am the greatest, that is understood, but even I didn't know I could pitch that good!

I Want A Lover

At this time of night, when the crowds have passed
Were the last to leave, we need some company
No need to look so shy, dont even wonder why
You know the reason that we need this company
Ive been sitting here, looking out for you
Someone just like me, whos maybe had a drink or two
I dont want another drink or fight
I want a lover
I dont care whether its wrong or right
I want a lover tonight
Tonight
Outside the dawn is breaking, looks like its started raining
Well catch a cab, and soon be driving home
No need to look so shy, dont even wonder why
Youll know the reason just as soon as we get home
Youve been sitting there, wondering what to do
Ive been standing here, waiting to make the first move
Ahaha
I dont want another drink or fight
I want a lover
I dont care whether its wrong or right
I want a lover tonight (tonight)
I dont want another drink or fight
I want a lover
I dont care whether its wrong or right
I want a lover tonight
Tonight
This anticipation is a stimulation
No need for conversation as were driving home
Put your arms around me, it doesnt mean you love me
Just that you want me and you need my company
Driving through the night, its so exciting
Turning off the light without another thought tonight
Ahaha
I dont want another drink or fight
I want a lover
I dont care whether its wrong or right
I want a lover tonight (I want a lover tonight)
I dont want another drink or fight
I want a lover
I dont care whether its wrong or right
I want a lover tonight
Tonight
(I want you, I want your love) - I want a lover
(I want you, I want your love) - I want a lover
(I want you, I want your love) - I want a lover (I want your love tonight)
Oooh

What I Have Seen #1

I saw a mother give wine to her boy-
The rain-drops fall and fall:
The pride of his parents, a household joy,
A mother's blessing, her all.

I saw the cheek of the youth grow red-
The rain falls over the lea:
The light of his eye shone like jewels, they said:
It spoke of ruin to me.

I saw the youth drink again and again-
The rain falls heavy and fast:
I saw the mother's brow furrowed with pain,
She was reaping her harvest at last.

I saw the youth go staggering by-
The rain-drops beat and beat:
Dulled was the light of his beautiful eye;
I saw him fall in the street.

I heard the rabble cry, 'Shame! oh! shame!'
The rain-drops sob and sob:
I heard the drunkard's once-honored name
Shouted aloud by the mob.

I saw the youth carried home to his door-
The rain-drops sob and sigh:
Saw the friends shun him, who sought him before,
Saw him sink lower, and die.

I saw the stone that bore only his name-
The rain-drops mutter and rave:
I saw the mother with sorrow and shame
Bowed to the brink of the grave.

Keep Driving

Another new york waltz at four a.m.,
In the canyons lost at night
The citys just a jail for me, full of high rise prison walls
And Im riding through this darkness,
cause I know theres life within
And Im searching through the shadows,
Just to find that light again
Keep driving (keep driving),
Let the meter run
Keep driving (keep driving),
Oh the nights not really done
Keep driving
And Im hanging on a memory, and I feel it in the air
Im a prisoner of these lonely streets,
But I know Ill find you there
And oh lord, you look so pretty,
But you can see it in my eyes
And just before my tear will fall, oh you smile and get inside
It seems so real until the light turns green
Dont wake me up, dont ruin this dream, dont take me from my scene
Keep driving, keep driving,
Keep driving, keep driving,
I cant go home, dont take me home, I cant go home alone
They dont tell you when the music stops,
Or how the movie ends
Is it too late once the feelings gone,
To back it up and start it all again?
Oh lord you look so pretty,
And you can see it in my eyes
And just before that tear will fall, oh you smile and get inside
(keep driving) keep driving, driving
I cant go home, dont take me home, I cant go home alone
(keep driving) let the meter run,
(keep driving) dont take me home
(keep driving) ooh, the nights still young
(keep driving) I gotta find someone,
(keep driving) I gotta find someone,
(keep driving) I gotta find someone,
(keep driving) I gotta find someone,
(keep driving) ooh find someone,
(keep driving) I gotta find someone,
(keep driving) find someone,
(keep driving) find someone,
(keep driving, keep driving, keep driving, keep driving, keep driving)

Jenny

(orbison)
Ken cook
Oh Im thinking tonight of my jenny
Who has gone far away now from me
Oh.Im thinking tonight of my jenny
And I wonder if she ever thinks of me?
Long ago we were strollin together
All the shores and the drive-ins we did see
Now she spends all her time with another
But I wonder if she ever thinks of me?
Oh Im thinking tonight of my jenny
Who has gone far away now from me
Oh.Im thinking tonight of my jenny
And I wonder if she ever thinks of me?
Oh Im thinking tonight of my jenny

Unexpected Death

Walking towards the building
Going in
Drinking
Smoking
Hours later…
Walking... stumbling out
Fumbling with the keys
Unlocking the door
It was a nice car
New
Driving home
Switching from one lane
To another
Swerving in the road
Running lights
Hitting mailboxes

In the other car:
Driving home from work
Going to see wife and kids
Turning the corner
Lights shining right at him

Sirens
Lights
An ambulance
A death
An injured man
An unexpected death
Of a great man
Just driving home from work

Silvers Home Tonight

Funny how she still remembers
Those words of love that got him nowhere
Even though she knows hes calling
She never finds the way to show her feelings
She doesnt mind the hours shes keeping
Hes waking when shes sleeping
For him it means so much to hear her voice
Shes home tonight
Silvers home tonight
And in the morning light
Shell feel much better
Home tonight, shell stay home tonight
Shell be sleeping light
Till he calls her again
Even though they didnt know it
Standing in the shadow love was waiting
Shed been his friend for such a long time
But never told the boy her heart was breaking
Silver had no way of knowing
That secretly his love was growing
And now hes coming back to stay
Shes home tonight
Silvers home tonight
And in the morning light
Theyre gonna be together
Home tonight, silvers home tonight
She can hear him saying Ill never leave you again
She could only wait
Till the time was right
It was never too late
Shes home tonight
Silvers home tonight
And in the morning light
Theyre gonna be together
Home tonight
Silvers home tonight
She can hear him saying Ill never leave you again

4. Put Safely Away

Where has my wife put the car keys
I left at the side of my bed
She whisked them away in my sleeping
To put away safely she said

Stored away safely from burglars
Should one maybe call in the night
Hidden where no one could find them
Covered up well out of sight

She’s never been one for remembering
Things seem to slip right from her mind
Then turn up a year or two later
In places that no one could find

Time slips by fast in an like an instant
The summer’s sun turns into frost
She still stores away things for safety
But the car keys are listed as lost

Speed Of Light

The speed of light slows down
As the feather hits the ground
And if nothing else gets proved
Its always faster than it sounds
A star that shines so bright
Would be eclipsed tonight
When you kiss the satellite
Because there was always you
And you alone believed
That light could bend this way
It dont seem right
To spend tonight
As I did today
If I had known that you would call
If I could dream that you would fall
If I could change these wrongs to right
I would have stayed at home tonight
Theres nothing you can do
To make this all brand new
And nothing you can say
To make it go away
Youve never been so wrong
So how can you act strong
When a fall from grace so hard
Should never take so long
And sat goodbye as you did today
If I had known that you would call
If I could dream that you would fall
If I could change these wrongs to right
I would have stayed at home tonight
So the speed of light remains
Ever constantly the same
Again tonight as it today
If I had known that you would call
If I could dream that you would fall
If I could change these wrongs to right
I would have stayed at home tonight
If I had known that you would call
If I could dream that you would fall
If I could change these wrongs to right
I would have stayed at home tonight

Too Much Too Soon

Hey this bottles empty, you got 2 bucks?
Cmon, well buy a bottle
Alright, Im headin to the store and Im gonna buy smokes
Hot damn"
Every night, I go out and get in my car, oh yeah
I push on the peddle but you know I go too far
Therere parties everywhere that I can see
Usin myself will be the death of me
Ya see every night I get a call on the telephone
My sweet little baby beggin me just to come home
But I know that everyday I gotta have me some fun
With Suzy to the left and Sally to my right
I know that I need just more than one
Chorus
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last
Said its too much too soon
I dont care, get outta my room
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last
Said its too much too soon
I dont care, get outta my room
Lets go
When the night goes on and I seem to see some friends / Now a buck for the car for the gas goes so fast? / With friends like that tell me whos gonna last / Well the citys hot but tonight Im not / I want everything that everybodys got / Not a badge in the pan or a legend hand / Just give me one more, one last dance
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last
Said its too much too soon
I dont care, get outta my room
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last
Said its too much too soon
I dont care, get outta my room
Lets go
Take the car, take the keys
Said my money dont grow on trees
You make me stumble and fall
T'ill I'm bloody at my knees?
I climbed back up to find that all my money's gone
Too much too soon not know since its been so long?
You can drive me to the edge but I really dont mind
Ya see when Im in my car I leave you behind
Theres another girl thats waitin down the road
When Im out the door you know thats just where Ill go
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last
Said its too much too soon
I dont care, get outta my room
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last
Said its too much too soon
I dont care, get outta my room
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last
Said its too much too soon
I dont care, get outta my room
Said its too much too fast
I dont care if I wont last

God, love and autumn

While I was driving to my office
I was thinking of you
While I was listening to Elton John in my car
I was thinking of you
While I was driving to gas station
I was thinking of you
While I was filling her up
I was thinking of you
While I was parking my car in our parking place
I was thinking of you
While I was taking the lift
To the third floor
I was thinking of you
While I was knocking the door knocker
I was thinking of making love with you
As the door opened
We were one!

Who's gonna tell you when, it's too late
Who's gonna tell you things, aren't so great
You can't go on, thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight
Who's gonna pick you up, when you fall
Who's gonna hang it up, when you call
Who's gonna pay attention, to your dreams
Who's gonna plug your ears, when you scream
You can't go on, thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight
Who's gonna hold you down, when you escape
Who's gonna come around, when you break
You can't go on, thinking nothing's wrong

Radio

Its 9 oclock shes late for work
She hates her job, her boss is a jerk
Her boyfriend never lets her play
She thinks shes wasting life away
At 5 oclock she gets in her car
Shes driving fast but never goes far
Parked on the freeway, slips in a rage
Time to ride the airwaves
Long live my radio it never lets me down,
Long live my radio give me sound!
Nothin to do nothin to say
Just try to find another way
To a different world some other plane
Where I can be myself without going insane
This little place that we call life
Its more to it than just pain and strife
Gotta find that somewhere in your brain
Gotta ride the airwaves
Long live my radio it never lets me down,
Long live my radio give me sound!
Long live my radio please make it alright
Long live my radio tonight
And when the statics screamin louder than your life
Just try to ride the waves in the air tonight
I make a dedication and try to get it right
So you can hear it on the airwaves...airwaves!
Long live my radio it never lets me down
Long live my radio tonight..tonight!
Long live my radio it never lets me down
Long live my radio give me sound!
Long live my radio make it alright
Long live my radio tonight!
Tonight!

Wonderful Tonight

(by eric clapton)
Its late in the evening
Shes wondering what clothes to wear
She puts on her make up
And brushes her long blonde hair
And then she asks me
Do I look alright
And I say yes, you look wonderful tonight
We go a party
And everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady
Thats walking around with me
And then she asks me
Do you feel alright
And I say yes, I feel wonderful tonight
I feel wonderful
Because I see the love light in your eyes
And the wonder of it all
Is that you just dont realize
How much I love you
Its time to go home now
And Ive got an aching head
So I give her the car keys
She helps me to bed
And then I tell her
As I turn out the light
I say my darling, you were wonderful tonight
Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight

She Don't Want Nobody Near

She don't want nobody near
But you can't get away from that
They appear and disappear
And they all get a string attached
Pretty soon they've got you hanging on the line
Pretty soon they're singing one by one, the same old rhyme
They say, "I'm alright, I just can't get home tonight"
She don't want nobody home
Cause it's a little too crowded then
But she don't want to be alone
So they just keep pouring in
Pretty soon they've got her headed for the door
She comes home to find that they're not hanging 'round no more
She says, "I'm alright, you just can't get home tonight"
Don't you wonder what she looks like in the light?
She says "I'm alright, I just can't get home tonight"
Pretty white-washed lies,
endless alibis
and reasons that need cleaning every night
Half a world away
You can't wash away the stain of the deceiving
And the things that you cannot believe
And well, she don't want no one around
Cause she don't want anybody to see
What she looks like when she's down
Cause that's a really sad place to be
Pretty soon she gets them crawling up the walls
Then she wonders why they beg her please to never call
She says "I'm ok, it's alright, hey look who's on TV tonight"
She says, "I'm alright, I just can't get home tonight"
Don't you wonder why it's dark outside at night?
She says, "I'm alright, I just can't get home tonight

Fast Car

You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at East side's health and childrens centre
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far
Just across the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
You see my old man's got a problem
He live with prescription drugs and that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
I say his body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit life and that's what I did
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way
remember we were driving driving in your car
speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still dont have a job
And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a big house and live in the suburbs
remember we were driving driving in your car
speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
remember we were driving driving in your car
speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone

I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still dont have a job
And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a big house and live in the suburbs
remember we were driving driving in your car
speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
remember we were driving driving in your car
speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way
