Like the Japanese

Make for me inside an insouciance with your wonder,
And I will build for you with my muscles,
And these things I say which are steam engines,
And organic turbines; Do not let your eyes become instead
The blunders of the richly accessorized middle-classes,
Do not say those things which are readily understood and
Manageable, but instead ride with me to Mars,
This sort of amusement park made out of fire-axes and
Other pigments given to indigenous holidays. That is what I
Said: Make this life into an aqueduct, a prevalence of my
Scars hung with tinsel, your lips blowing the sawdust of such
Carpentry, your nails newly painted black and draped against
My cheek like the human brand of peacock; Or come with
Me to my grandmother’s grave and let us worship there like
The Japanese, let us spread origami like our bodies, into new
Shapes for Christmas, and let us not mind the way the snowflakes
Drift indefinably unique like little Chalets floating through a
Francophone space, or let us ride away from this back through
The vanished sea the mountains attend, as carefully as explorers
Approaching the epileptic fissures through the persimmon trees.
They grow wild here where there are just words blown like
Ashes out amidst the bicycles of each of their careworn students,
And the ladies who exercise readily dreaming of their inevitable
Motherhood and what fine kitchens, like bosomy Popes
In a suburban Rome, they should first graduate and then soon attend.

Come in over
Yo, turn me up
I wanna be heard
See, I'm talking bout the future y'all
And the future looks bright

Here it comes, millennium
And everybody's talkin' bout Jerusalem
Is this the beginning or beginning of the end?
Well, I've got other thoughts my friend
See I've got my eyes on the skies

Watching For Shapes

Written by ricky & marty wilde
Influences now are things that are all around me
Changing shape as they move around in an open mind
Coloured in by the images I find
Im just watching for shapes that grow
Im just watching for shapes that grow
(watching for shapes that grow)
Like electric sparks they danced by an open mirror
Closing doors never looking round but its not goodbye
Theyll be there till Im taken out I know
Im just watching for shapes that grow
Im just watching for shapes that grow
(watching for shapes that grow)
In my mind theres a space thats full of painted pictures
Things I did that I went through, but cant recall
Now and then theres a flash of the unknown
Im just watching for shapes that grow
Im just watching for shapes that grow
(watching for shapes that grow)
(watching for shapes that grow)

Mountains Othings

The life Ive always wanted
I guess Ill never have
Ill be working for somebody else
Until Im in my grave
Ill be dreaming of a live of ease
And mountains
Oh mountains o things
To have a big expensive car
Drag my furs on the ground
And have a maid that I can tell
To bring me anything
Everyone will look at me with envy and with greed
Ill revel in their attention
And mountains
Oh mountains o things
Sweet lazy life
Champagne and caviar
I hope youll come and find me
Cause you know who we are
Those who deserve the best in life
And know what moneys worth
And those whose sole misfortune
Was having mountains o nothing at birth
Oh they tell me
Theres still time to save my soul
They tell me
Renounce all
Renounce all those material things you gained by
Exploiting other human beings
Consume more than you need
This is the dream
Make you pauper
Or make you queen
I wont die lonely
Ill have it all prearranged
A grave thats deep and wide enough
For me and all my mountains o things
Mostly I feel lonely
Good good people are
Good people are only
My stepping stones
Its gonna take all my mountains o things
To surround me
Keep all my enemies away
Keep my sadness and loneliness at bay
Ill be dreaming, dreaming...
Dreaming...

Tinseltown

Falling down, reaching out, for someone to come down
Oblivious to all of us, the child that grows inside
Seventeen without a care, shes taking another ride
A sense of peace shes waving back, to faces carved in stone
Tinsel town, here in tinsel town, its pulled you down
Life in tinsel town, overthrown, relinquished all
Life breeds all around, a fun fair trip a carousel
Shes trying to hang on, here in tinsel town
Life in tinsel town, its pulled you down
Stuck in tinsel town, I think she might make it
She has the will to go on, shes turning back pages as the world steps on
Here in tinsel town, life in tinsel town
Its pulled you down, stuck in tinsel town
Alone, alone, alone, so alone, here in tinsel town
Life in tinsel town.

Home

(charlie smalls)
Think of home
Home
When I think of home
I think of a place where theres love overflowing
I wish I was home
I wish I was back there with the things I been knowing
Wind that makes the tall trees bend into leaning
Suddenly the snowflakes that fall have a meaning
Sprinklin the scene, makes it all clean
Maybe theres a chance for me to go back there
Now that I have some direction
It would sure be nice to be back home
Where theres love and affection
And just maybe I can convince time to slow up
Giving me enough time in my life to grow up
Time be my friend, let me start again
Suddenly my world has changed its face
But I still know where Im going
I have had my mind spun around in space
And yet Ive watched it growing
If youre listning god
Please dont make it hard to know
If we should believe in the things that we see
Tell us, should we run away
Should we try and stay
Or would it be better just to let things be?
Living here, in this brand new world
Might be a fantasy
But it taught me to love
So its real, real to me
And Ive learned
That we must look inside our hearts
To find a world full of love
Like yours
Like me
Like home...

Thunderball

I ate the moon for breakfast
I had the sun for tea
I opened up the papers
And drank the oval sea
I beat the holy armies
I claim my own terrain
And cauterised my pain
I'll live my dreams - and I'll have it all
All in the day and the night
Time after time - I never go wrong
Watch out - you better hold tight
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball
I walked upon the desert
And scaled the mountains high
Gave water to the rivers
And painted up the sky
I've played with all the planets
Took life away from Mars
And all my magic power
Gave light to all the stars
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball - read the book of lies
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball - the shock of life
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball - do you believe
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball - have the ride of your life
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball - believe in lies
Ride the thunderball
The thunderball - between the lines

Dragon's Fire

What is held
In the dragons fire
Is it power
Or is it life
Burning down things
Making new things grow
Trees and grass
Falling to ash
Castles and knights
Arrows and swords
Weapons to kill
One another
Wings flap
In the sky
Noises coming
From afar
They are the noises
Of dragons roaring
Scaly bodies
Powerful claws
Teeth are still
Razor sharp
Blowing fire
From deep within
It is made
From there hearts
So what to see
Inside these yellow flames
Of the dragons fire

In The Dark

Make me fumble
Make me fall
Make my heart stop and start
To tremble uncontrollably
Let my eyes see fear make desire
Keep those who long apart
Forbid the kiss
And leave us innocent
Of the things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
Make me remember
Make me forget
Make my mind unable
To force the body to do its will
Let it be right for belief and denial
To share a space in the heart and leave us only to imagine
About the things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
Make me pretend
Make me expect
Things can go and come to pass
Without trial or tribulation
Let this life space and time
Leave my body with permanent marks
Faded scars and lines
But not a single impression
Of the things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
Let me be tempted
Let me be torn
But make my thoughts pure and not
Morally corrupt in form
Let us sleep tonight
Let innocence lie in our dreams and secret hearts
With burning desire
A need to know and do
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark
The things some do in the dark

A Life Lived

Life of spite and defiance
To watch people tooling around on Mars
To celebrate the end of the last war
To attend the funeral of corporate personhood
76th wedding anniversary walking across the dry Ganga
Hundredth birthday drinking my age in pints of beer
Why don't you join me? Consider yourself invited
To throw a bushel of rose petals from the space elevator
Zero emissions ambulance sweeping me to the hospital
And I'll saddle up my Horse for the ride home
All bad things must one day end and so will I

Ride The Ride

Take all of the money
Take all of the sweet plum of the pie
Dont say that you love me
Dont say its for me its a lie
Now you got yourself so wrapped up in it
All you gotta do is wait a minute
All you gotta do is ride the ride
Ride the ride, ride the ride
Blowing a smokescreen
Never looking at me in the eye
You make it look easy
For someone afraid of falling to fly
Now you got yourself so wrapped up in it
All you gotta do is wait a minute
All you gotta do is ride the ride
Ride the ride, ride the ride, ride the ride
Take all of the money
Take all you believe is the prize
Just leave me a moment
Just leave a bright piece of the sky
Now you got yourself so wrapped up in it
All you gotta do is wait a minute
All you gotta do is ride the ride
Ride the ride, ride the ride, ride the ride
Ride the ride, ride the ride, ride the ride

The Irony Of Your Life

so many things litter
empty bottles
wrappers
rugs, slippers with lost pairs
dog's hair
banana peelings,

in the kitchen after you eat
you are always caught up with so many reasons
to leave early

so many things to attend to
words to fabricate
sentences to make at the rush hour

you risk life in the middle of a jammed traffic
of the city streets

and then when you arrive at your destination
you find the irony of life

you are trapped inside the net of a
jejune

so many papers piling up like a mountain
and then you have no nerve
to make the climb

you sit there
look beyond the glass windows
your legs are crossed
and then you
do nothing

and that is the final decision.

Ride The Wind

Hearts of fire
Streets of stone
Modern warriors
Saddle iron horses of chrome
Taste the wild
Lick the wind
Like something they never saw before
Their jaws dropping to the floor
Steel made of soul and sin
Rebels born without a care
And the day he listens
Only to fly where eagles dare
And the night she whispers
Chorus:
Ride the wind
Never coming back until I touch the midnight sun
Ride the wind
Never coming back again
Ride the wind
Never coming back until I touch the midnight sun
Painted flesh
Loyalty
Humble pride
Just as far as the eye can see
Stories told
Two old friends
Of battle scars and lonely bars
And nights the rain wouldnt end
Heres to withered eyes wearing gypsy smiles
And the day he listens
Heres to lovely ladies and a million miles
And the night she whispers
Chorus
Ride the wind
Im still the bravest soul in sin,
Burning till the night is done.
Solo
Of all the truths and lies
And stories of riders in the sky
They say only the bravest try
Where eagles and angels dare to fly
Chorus

Words... (Tiny Bodies)

words have tiny bodies,
some young, some aged beyond thought.
words carry swords and plant tears,
words form tiny lamps in darkness.
words express the unexpressable,
ride bicycles on children's journeys.
words taunt silence with definition....
and some of the best are never spoken.
words heal wounds, and fill bowls,
weave webs while we sleep.
words often turn and betray us,
and often die for our sins.
words create universes,
and shed their clothes on well lit stages.
words translate both the wolf and the whale,
and bear the flag of mountains.
words bear children, but leave no tracks.
words hammer rusty nails.
words never ever wear shoes,
and dance with every other step.
words stroke the breast and touch the lips,
without apology or fear.
words give stars their destiny,
and name every grain of sand!

Wings Of Tomorrow

You must be dreaming
, or going out of your mind
Theres no way of changing,
The world over one night
Maybe you need to recover,
From all the things youve been through
Maybe you need to discover
That it aint much left to do
Ride, ride, ride the wings of tomorrow
Ride, ride, ride to change the world
You feel sorry for the nation of 1984
And it cuts you like a razor
cause youve seen it all before
Youve seen one war after another
So many lifes on the line
You must take care of one another
Or its the end of time

The Scorcher and the Howling Swell

The Scorcher and the Howling Swell were riding through the land;
They wept like anything to see the hills on every hand;
"If these were only levelled down," they said, "it would be grand."

"If every bloke that rides a bike put in a half-a-crown,
Do you suppose," the Scorcher said, "that that would cut them down?"
"I doubt it," said the Howling Swell, and frowned a doleful frown.

"Oh, ladies, come and ride with us," the Scorcher did entreat,
"A little ride across the park and down the smoothest street,
And you will have a chance to show your very dainty feet."

The Scorcher rode up all the hills, as if the same were flat;
"It's very rude," the ladies said, "to ride as fast as that;
For all of us are out of breath - and some of us are fat."

"Cheer up, cheer up, my ladies gay," the Howling Swell replied;
"Behold a tea-shop by the way, with Globe Brand Tea inside;
And all who drink the Globe Brand Tea up any hill can ride."

And every lady in the band revived on Globe Brand Tea,
That Atcherley and Dawson sell in George Street, near the Quay,
And Howling Swells and Scorchers both proclaim its purity.

Grumpy Grandpa

Grand-daughter of the Painted Nails,
As if they had been dipped in gore,
I'd like to set you lugging pails
And make you scrub the kitchen floor.
I'm old and crotchety of course,
And on this point my patience fails;
I'd sue my old girl for divorce
If she showed up with painted nails.

Grand-daughter of the Painted Nails,
Like to a Jezebel are you;
Do you expect to snare the males
With talons of such bloody hue?
I could forgive your smudging lips,
Your scarlet cheek that powder veils,
But not your sanguine finger-tips . . .
Don't paw me with your painted nails.

Grand-daughter of the Painted Nails,
Were I the sire of maidens ten,
I'd curse them over hills and dales,
And hold them to the scorn of men
If they had claws of crimson dye;
Aye, though they sang like nightingales,
Unto the welkin I would cry:
"Avaunt, ye hags with Painted Nails!"

North Atlantic Drift

Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Its a cultural shift its the North Atlantic Drift
Americana and a rule Britannia
And the moon yes we own that to
And where the Euphrates meets the other rivers
Is now the home of the devil and the liar
And the pyre we plan to make
Is just the drift leaving its wake, home
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
And the films you want to watch
And the films you want to make
And the kids like lost angels
Dressed in black sensations
And the shift won? shake
And the drift won? brake
With billions of Diamonds growing like olives
And the drift holds the coffers
Meanwhile Rome burns

Essence and Existence

Part readily the skin
and readily the pulp,
as readily the tongues
wild apples bore,
eviscerate the cores
and watermelon spit the pits
they cannot swallow.
Let this be done before
the tongues
wild lemons bore
find no cores.

Speakin' O' Christmas

BREEZES blowin' middlin' brisk,
Snow-flakes thro' the air a-whisk,
Fallin' kind o' soft an' light,
Not enough to make things white,
But jest sorter siftin' down
So's to cover up the brown
Of the dark world's rugged ways
'N' make things look like holidays.
Not smoothed over, but jest specked,
Sorter strainin' fur effect,
An' not quite a-gittin' through
What it started in to do.
Mercy sakes! it does seem queer
Christmas day is 'most nigh here.
Somehow it don't seem to me
Christmas like it used to be,—
Christmas with its ice an' snow,
Christmas of the long ago.
You could feel its stir an' hum

Weeks an' weeks before it come;
Somethin' in the atmosphere
Told you when the day was near,
Didn't need no almanacs;
That was one o' Nature's fac's.
Every cottage decked out gay —
Cedar wreaths an' holly spray —
An' the stores, how they were drest,
Tinsel tell you couldn't rest;
Every winder fixed up pat,
Candy canes, an' things like that;
Noah's arks, an' guns, an' dolls,
An' all kinds o' fol-de-rols.
Then with frosty bells a-chime,
Slidin' down the hills o' time,
Right amidst the fun an' din
Christmas come a-bustlin' in,
Raised his cheery voice to call
Out a welcome to us all.
Hale and hearty, strong an' bluff,
That was Christmas, sure enough.
Snow knee-deep an' coastin' fine,
Frozen mill-ponds all ashine,
Seemin' jest to lay in wait,
Beggin' you to come an' skate.
An' you'd git your gal an' go
Stumpin' cheerily thro' the snow,
Feelin' pleased an' skeert an' warm
'Cause she had a-holt yore arm.
Why, when Christmas come in, we
Spent the whole glad day in glee,
Havin' fun an' feastin' high
An' some courtin' on the sly.
Bustin' in some neighbor's door
An' then suddenly, before
He could give his voice a lift,
Yellin' at him, 'Christmas gift.'
Now sich things are never heard,
'Merry Christmas' is the word.
But it's only change o' name,
An' means givin' jest the same.
There's too many new-styled ways
Now about the holidays.
I'd jest like once more to see
Christmas like it used to be!
