La Canto Finale

La Canto Finale
(An Ode to Joan Camahalan)
By: Benedict Salvacion

Canto I
I weep before the heaven shuts
perpetual remorse to the twilight of my rest
not even the hands of the sun shall pierce
beyond the wintriness of my lonely grave.

Salvage not the forlorn conferred
in the darkness of my cell I chose to stay
to embrace my sentence foretold by time
til’ the silent cry of the nightingale retires.

How much more poison ought to take?
before my remains denies the pain
the scar of my scarlet rose
that went astray one gloomy day.

Perhaps a thousand painful deaths
shall cease the sorrow that holds my soul
perhaps the echoes of the endless mourn
will break this cage, my eternal chills.

Canto II
Destined to drink the bitterness of life
from the chalice that my hands hath made
in her eyes a question in silence
must I take the potion of our end?

With the stars falling, kissing my cheeks
eyes wide shut I took my fate
not knowing that it will be my last
while she walked afar and bid goodbye

From thereon I lived and dwelled
counting the leaves from the laurel falls
unto the rivers of shameful acts
here in the realm of tortured souls

But will it change my stars from the skies?
if she hears my plead, my thousands of prayer
or will she be cold like a tree in the winter
nor will she play deaf ten folds as her last goodbye?

Canto Finale
Indeed, it will shatter the last of me
if then again from her lips, the final farewell
the final strike deeper from the first
the final chapter in the book of my life

But if my fate hath long been written
by the hands of my scarlet rose
then I shall face the final blow
with the bluest sky in the summer day

For no sweeter death that I discern
than my life be seized by madness for love
though in this battle I will lose
at least I’ll die complete and thirst no more

But still in my final breath
I shall whisper to the gods at the heavens
that no harm shall come your way
for thou art my love for eternity, constant as my death.

Our Final Farewell

To say our final farewell it happend not that long ago.
Our final farewell, I remember it so clearly.
Our final farewell, I remember your smile.
Our final farewell, I remember how proud you were
that you got promoted.
Our final farewell, happened like any 'goodbye'.
Our final farewell, you seemed happy.
Our final farewell, you seemed to enjoy life.
Our final farewell, you seemed to enjoy everything,
Our final farewell, I remember the conversation.
Our final farewell, sometimes haunts me.
Our final farewell, happened so quick.
Our final farewell, I didn't know that it was going to
be our last.
Our final farewell, happened more then a year ago
Your final farewell, happened on the 15/11/05 as you
took your own life.

Death Of Love

When my arm is cold and numbed
And then laid to its final rest
I wander what thought that it could have
If only to God and man it could confess.

When my eyes close for their very last time
What would be the last sight for them to see,
Would it be a sight, that gave a delight
To be cherished by my soul through me.

When my fingers loose their sense of touch
What touch would be missed most of all
Would it be the roses in the summertime
Or the many leaves, that I touched in the fall.

When my lips quiver their last time to close
What would be the last thought of it to miss
Would it be to say a prayer or maybe speak a thought
Or would it be, to give my one last kiss.

When it is my time to to leave this world
I know from this world I must leave alone
But I need to feel love, as I say goodbye to life
As never again will my soul or thoughts roam.

Before my arm goes it needs one last hug
Then it will go with a pain and a delight
And before my eyes close shut as surely as they will
They must see heaven in sight, that night.
Before my fingers loose their since of touch
A woman's hair or a rose I need to brush
They must feel the softness that they once had known
Then happily they will leave with just a hush.
My heart would beat one last time for you
And for my lips, what would be their final wish
Would it to say a prayer or a poem to recite,
Or it would be a last goodbye kiss.

When my body is gone and it is buried deep
And my soul is heading to heaven above
No one might worry about me leaving this world
But when I gone, there will be the death of love..

Oye Mi Canto

Take me... only for what i am
You've got a right to speak your mind
You've gotta take a stand
No one... has the right to say
This is right or that is wrong
It isn't just one way
Find common ground
Go in between
Things aren't always what they seem
Someday it'll be alright
Changes happen overnight
People, let's give each other room
If we're gonna work it out
We better make it soon
Love is... love is such a common word
When it's pride we mistake for love
Isn't that absurd
Why always take
The upper hand
It's better to understand
Someday it'll be alright
Changes happen overnight
Someday it'll be alright
Changes happen overnight
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto
I believe in love but with no conditions
Oye mi canto
And giving in sometimes
Doesn't make it submission
Oye mi canto
Hate is so common it's almost tradition
Oye mi canto
Come on let's leave it behind
And make that transition
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto
Oye mi canto....

My Single Orange Rose

Here is my prose,
All based on a single orange rose,
Grave grass springing,
Church hyms their singing,
Blood stains clinging,
On my single orange rose,
No soul is laughing,
Deaths hands are clapping,
Coffin case trapping,
On my single orange rose,
Trees are branching,
My cold blank eyes are trancing,
The life cycle of death is dancing,
On my single orange rose,
I picked my final wish,
On deaths lips I kissed,
My long life I missed,
All because of that single orange rose,

Aurobindo 153 Savitri Book 10

An appreciation on Savitri-
Book Ten: The Book of the Double Twilight
Canto Three - The Debate of Love and Death
Words within inverted commas are Aurobindo's

Oh Death, you sound satanic and not godly..
'For who, being mortal, can dwell glad alone?
Then Satyavan shall glide into the past,
A gentle memory pushed away from thee
By new love and thy children's tender hands,
Till thou shalt wonder if thou lov'dst at all.
Such is the life earth's travail has conceived,
A constant stream that never is the same.'

'But Savitri replied to mighty Death:
'O dark ironic critic of God's work,
'Mine is a heart that worshipped, though forsaken,
The image of the god its love adored; '
'Why dost thou vainly strive with me, O Death, '
'For now at last I know beyond all doubt,
The great stars burn with my unceasing fire'
'Earth saw my struggle, heaven my victory; '

'All shall be seized, transcended; there shall kiss
Casting their veils before the marriage fire
The eternal bridegroom and eternal bride.
The heavens accept our broken flights at last.
On our life's prow that breaks the waves of Time
No signal light of hope has gleamed in vain.'
'Thus with armed speech the great opponents strove.'
'Intent upon her silent will she walked'

'But now her spirit's flame of conscient force
Retiring from a sweetness without fruit
Called back her thoughts from speech to sit within
In a deep room in meditation's house.'
'Death walked in front of her and Satyavan,
In the dark front of Death, a failing star.'...

My consciousness this moment,
O'Guru, I'm in awe....in invincible heights
Ineffable Thee embellishing poetic creation
My inquisitive apprehension, erring Thee may opine
May thereso, let Savitri in my self arise
Aroused thereso be knowledge and fortune

The guilt of innocence...

Sentenced to death for a crime I did not commit,
Execution at dawn... such a cliché,
All of my last request's denied,
Morning arrives on the final day of my existance,
Paraded through the streets like some kind of prize,
The aroma of life so evident in my final hours,
Dragged up onto this hellish platform, dignity stripped,
These man made gallows offer such a view 0f life,
How ironic that life is my final view when death comes to call,
Blindfold refused, rope placed around my neck,
Trembling uncontrolably... Goodbye cruel world,
Trap door opens and I fall, neck snapped like a twig,
Spiraling deeper and deeper into the darkness of the abyss,
May the maker have mercy upon my soul...

Spread the love... The peace will follow...

The Final Goodbye

The Final Goodbye
Time after time we have to say the final goodbye
To someone we deeply care about
*
Time after time we have to pay our last respect to the dead
Is there a lesson to be learnt
*
Is it the pain of everlasting departure
Or the gain of joy that we
Showed love and care
While you were there
Is that the lesson to be learnt
*
I feel a sense of emptiness now that you are gone
And after all has been said and done
I know that this life must still go on
*
I loved you
I respected you
I was privileged to share precious moments with you
I miss you
You are bigger than a princess
In my eyes you were the queen
But I am happy because
I am taking away beautiful memories of you
That's the lesson you have taught me
*
With this I say the Final Goodbye
Goodbye my Dear

Shall I compare thee to a winter’s night?

Shall I compare thee to a winter’s night?
Thou art more pleasant and more control:
Rough winds do shake the falling flakes of winter,
And winter’s lease hath all to long of a vigour:
Sometimes too cold for the eyes of winter to excel,
And often its white complexion glistens;
And from fair to fair its icy complexion is hidden,
By chance or nature’s changing course thou decline;
But thy eternal winter’s day shall not dimmed
Nor lose thy effects on thy winter’s day;
Nor shall thy demise crow thou roam in its silhouette,
When in eternal canto thou glow:
So long as mankind can breathe and eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee

Aurobindo 124 Savitri Book 8

An appreciation on Savitri-
Book Eight: The Book of Death
Canto Three*: Death in the Forest
Words within inverted commas are Aurobindo's

* The Book of Death was taken from Canto Three of an early version of
Savitri which had only six cantos and an epilogue. It was slightly revised
at a late stage and a number of new lines were added, but it was never fully
worked into the final version of the poem. Its original designation,
``Canto Three'', has been retained as a reminder of this.-(As given in the book)

'By her still sleeping husband lain she gazed
Into her past as one about to die'
'The whole year in a swift and eddying race
Of memories swept through her and fled away
Into the irrecoverable past.'
Then silently she rose and, service done,
Bowed down to the great goddess simply carved
By Satyavan upon a forest stone.'

'What prayer she breathed her soul and Durga knew.
Perhaps she felt in the dim forest huge
The infinite Mother watching over her child,
Perhaps the shrouded Voice spoke some still word.'
Out of stress always cries the heart Ma
At last she came to the pale mother queen.
She spoke but with guarded lips and tranquil face
'All else she pressed back into her anguished heart'

'One year that I have lived with Satyavan Line 28 to
Release me now and let my heart have rest.' Line 43
'I have not gone into the silences
Of this great woodland that enringed my thoughts
With mystery, nor in its green miracles'
'Now has a strong desire seized all my heart
To go with Satyavan holding his hand
Into the life that he has loved'

O'my heart do not grieve, for Savitri is sure to win..
Such Thou words are bouffant with pathos o'Guru
She answered: 'Do as thy wise mind desires, '
'I hold thee for a strong goddess who has come
Pitying our barren days; so dost thou serve'
'Like the strong sun that serves earth from above.'...

............My consciousness this moment,
O'Guru, I'm in awe....in invincible heights
Ineffable Thee embellishing poetic creation
My inquisitive apprehension, erring Thee may opine
May thereso, let Savitri in my self arise
Aroused thereso be knowledge and fortune

The Resonant Dream

The final dream
So resonant and pure
The final dream
Will never be at its end
Its long journey almost o'er
The final dream
Has just begun
To rattle the fate at hand
The final dream
Is as pure as gold
It is perfect and will stand
The final dream
Will never come to a close
Yet it has a happy hand
The final dream
Is a grand dream
That turns the time of sand
The final dream
Is such a dream
That it is now near its end

Aurobindo 90 Savitri Book 6

An appreciation on Savitri-
Book Six: The Book of Fate
Canto One: The Word of Fate
Words within inverted commas are Aurobindo's

'Then cried the sage piercing the mother's heart,
Forcing to steel the will of Savitri,
His words set free the spring of cosmic Fate.'
''The truth thou hast claimed; I give to thee the truth.'Line 531 to
'This day returning Satyavan must die.'Line 588
Fate of Satyavan revealed...
But the queen cried: 'Vain then can be heaven's grace! Line 590 to
A choice less rare may call a happier fate.'Line 608

'But Savitri answered from her violent heart, -
'Once my heart chose and chooses not again...
....I am stronger than death and greater than my fate;
My love shall outlast the world, doom falls from me
Helpless against my immortality.
Fate's law may change, but not my spirit's will.'
How determined the words here like Savitri
How determined was Savitri that we still wonder at...

'But in the queen's mind listening her words
Rang like the voice of a self-chosen Doom
Denying every issue of escape.'
'O child, in the magnificence of thy soul..Line 638 to
It greatens slowly into timeless peace.'Line 717
A mother's exemplary advice in Thou colourful words
A mother's caring plea in Thou poetic deliverance...
'But Savitri replied with steadfast eyes: '

'My will is part of the eternal Will, Line 719 to
I have seen the Eternal in a human face.'Line 755
What else could a true love ever be than immortal
And not 'Only to live and love awhile and die.'
'Then none could answer to her words. Silent
They sat and looked into the eyes of Fate.'.........

............My consciousness this moment,
O'Guru, I'm in awe....in invincible heights
Ineffable Thee embellishing poetic creation
My inquisitive apprehension, erring Thee may opine
May thereso, let Savitri in my self arise

In Death, My Final Part

A tower grim; a glowering darkness,
And only brown of red the other hue
– I saw it in the distant eyes –
And yes, He knew, but focussed only
On the mortal soul of mine –
After all, He had a role to play,
And wine: my shivering blood to quaff!
If only I could Him betray –
To break the seal of destiny;
Escape the lone cacophony
That emanates from wailing minds!

Damn the fate of His – it awes and blinds!
But oh! the mighty hammer strikes a toll;
The slow approach of Him upon the knoll
Commences exudation of a dying heart.
Endorsing all, I honed my final part.

Death Came Knocking At My Door

Knocking at my door

Death came knocking at my door
HE SAID: my life would be no more.
He was coming to take me away
To a place where I would stay.
I would be there for all eternity
And that my soul was finally free.
It would be a happier place
Where I would see a friendly face.
I SAID: are you not the “ grim reaper’?
HE SAID: oh no! I was your guardian angel
Here on earth, and your guardian
Till you reach that final sleep.
And when you open your eyes again
You will be with family and friends.
I will help you to earn your wings
For in heaven, that’s the normal thing.
Not every death is with the reaper
A lot of this is so much deeper
You have been watched from your birth
And we know just what you’re worth.
You have helped so many in your life
With your thoughts and deeds
and with that you did exceed.
You will continue to help in death
as you did in life.
This is the final sacrifice

Man Of The Hour

tidal waves don't beg forgiveness
crash, then on their way
father, he enjoyed collisions
others walked away
the snowflake falls in may
and the doors are open now
as the bells are ringing out
cuz the man of the hour
has taken his final bow
goodbye for now
nature has its own religion
gospel from the land
father ruled by long division
young men, they pretend
old men comprehend
and the sky breaks at dawn
shedding light upon this town
we all come 'round
cuz the man of the hour
has taken his final bow
goodbye for now
and the road, the old men paved
the broken seams along the way
the rusted signs, they're just for me
he was guiding me, love, his own way
now the man of the hour
has taken his final bow
as the curtain comes down
i feel that this is just
goodbye for now

Before Death

Before death
you wanted to kiss

the girl in the lift
whom you rode with

silently each day,
wanted to read

War and Peace,
wanted to listen

to the whole
of Wagner’s Ring,

wanted to write a poem
in Japanese,

touch the dress
Marilyn Monroe

wore in that famous film,
feel the embrace

of your late father’s arms.
Before death

you wanted to sing
a Puccini aria,

look into the eyes
of your first dead love,

make love
for the final time,

climb Everest,
drink your last

glass of booze,
see your final dawn,

hold onto your final breath,
before your death.

Raffles of Life

death fear and tremble every heart, a final
destination of every soul, of no where to
believe that death is not an exemption of
life but life after this life, it’s the end of
every beginning, nor the fate to
accept that it’s the final
happiness that man
has long waited for
in life
you don’t need to live because you want to die,
though, you have to die in order to live, the
meaning catches many stream in the
river and sea, every thing will be
happy, you may not find but you
may seek it, for in the end the
paradise is waiting
even the clouds have something to say
the night has been envying the day
the stones rushing the shore
to be seen, for in every
birds, there is feather
that flees
so why all have got there shared to be
raffle in life, the air breath has but
nothing to see, though the eyes
close vividly can feel, the
beauty of death, the
Prophets and
Messenger
always
shout
for
thee
as life comes and it may go, the raffles. seems
so easy when you’re Free.......

One final letter

This my final letter.
A letter of the end.
A letter that says goodbye.
A letter with answers.

Im sorry, relly i am.
Dont be mad or sad.
I couldnt cope with it.
Couldnt live life.

I had to get off the bumpy ride.
My life was over long ago.
Abused attacked used and raped.
Evil laughter all around me.
A sound that never goes.

Theres your answer
If you really care.

Let me go now
dont cry for me
Dont grieve for long
in the wake of my suicide.

Im so so so sorry
but this is the final goodbye.
I couldnt leave without an explination
I had to give you the reasons why.

Now the razors deep in my arm.
The pills are swallowed deep in side.
The blood is pouring from me.

Now im dead and cold
Stiff and limb.

I had to go
I just had to go
I didnt want to go
What else was I to do?

My very last
And final goodbye
Im gone now
No longer a lifes burden.

Please dont cry for long
Im gone
Im gone
GONE

Its the final good bye

Aurobindo 94 Savitri Book 7

An appreciation on Savitri-
Book Seven: The Book of Yoga
Canto One: The Joy of Union; the Ordeal of the Foreknowledge
of Death and the Heart's Grief and Pain
Words within inverted commas are Aurobindo's

'All-love was hers and its one heavenly cord
Bound all to all with her as golden tie.'
'After all was given she demanded still;
Even by his strong embrace unsatisfied,
She longed to cry, 'O tender Satyavan, ...
....For soon we part and who shall know how long
Before the great wheel in its monstrous round
Restore us to each other and our love? '

'But Satyavan sometimes half understood,
The unplumbed abyss of her deep passionate want.'
'All of his speeding days that he could spare
From labour in the forest hewing wood
And hunting food in the wild sylvan glades
And service to his father's sightless life'
How intense the seriousness of his fate..
Unaware Satyavan we must pity...

'She saw the desert of her coming days
Imaged in every solitary hour.'
'Thus in the silent chamber of her soul
Cloistering her love to live with secret grief
She dwelt like a dumb priest with hidden gods'
'He, less aware, thrilled with her from afar.
Always the stature of her passion grew;
Grief, fear became the food of mighty love.'

'It was all her life, became her whole earth and heaven.'
'Her spirit stretched measureless in strength divine,
An anvil for the blows of Fate and Time: '
'The year now paused upon the brink of change.'
'So her grief's heavy sky shut in her heart.
A still self hid behind but gave no light: '.......

Aurobindo 92 Savitri Book 6

An appreciation on Savitri-
Book Six: The Book of Fate
Canto Two: The Way of Fate and the Problem of Pain
Words within inverted commas are Aurobindo's

To Aswapati 'Narad answered covering truth with truth: '
'O Aswapati, random seem the ways
Along whose banks your footsteps stray or run'
'A greatness in thy daughter's soul resides
That can transform herself and all around
But must cross on stones of suffering to its goal.'
'She too must share the human need of grief
And all her cause of joy transmute to pain.'

'A Magician's formulas have made Matter's laws
And while they last, all things by them are bound;
But the spirit's consent is needed for each act
And Freedom walks in the same pace with Law.
All here can change if the Magician choose.
If human will could be made one with God's,
If human thought could echo the thoughts of God,
Man might be all-knowing and omnipotent; '

' The force of man can be driven by God's force,
'It is decreed and Satyavan must die;
'Arisen from the body's torture and death,
The spirit rises mightier by defeat; '
'In vain thou mournst that Satyavan must die;
His death is a beginning of greater life, '
'A vast intention has brought two souls close
And love and death conspire towards one great end.'

''Queen, strive no more to change the secret will; '
'As a star, uncompanioned, moves in heaven'
'The great are strongest when they stand alone.'
'He spoke and ceased and left the earthly scene.'
'A high and far imperishable voice
Chanted the anthem of eternal love.'..............
