Dippy the Dog
This is the tale of Dippy the dog
the mad Irish setter who got stuck in a bog
who wouldn't eat dog food just curry and cod
the thrilling adventures of Dippy the dog
His real name is Bailey though he doesn't know
he will answer to Red or to Max or to Joe
if you threw a stick or a ball he would go
and go, and go, and go, and go
Dippy at birth was thought quite a scoop
a bound to be star of the ring in his youth
he had enough legs, enough hair, ears and tooth
but the mental department was made out of wood
Didn't you know dogs could get stuck up trees
Could be chased by a shadow and bark just for free
would be frightened by cats, have a fondness for tea
Dippy believed he was no dog you see
One time in the ring he behaved well enough
but it was almost like waiting for a bomb to go off
and when he got placed I thought what a surprise
but Dippy had that wild look in his eyes
He peed on the judge and then started a fight
then stood back and watched with wagging delight
as the show turned to chaos he looked up at me
'I told you I'm not for this dog jamboree'
Dippy considers it in his C.V.
To protect you from everyone else that you see
and would growl at friends and most family
which made life quite lonely, The ex wife would agree
He also insisted the day starts at five
and would howl in the morning to make sure you're alive
and would whine for his breakfast and whine for a walk
then you'd have to drag him back home before work
He also included in his doggy plans
that wherever he went he had to take man
and would tug at your trousers so you'd understand
and also where you went he had to be planned
Off to the pub you would sit all alone
while you sipped your pint and he chewed a bone
when time was called he would run out the door
you would never finish a pint anymore
And so off to sleep you just have to take him
he would sprawl at the foot of the bed you were in
and would fart and would bark and would kick and would snore
nine stone of lolloping doggy amour
He could have been champ but he'll never be now
he runs like a donkey and walks like a cow
and drinks like a fish and eats like a sow
I'm sure it's deliberate but I don't know how
Well it's a tale just a man and his dog
the mad Irish setter who got stuck in a bog
who would'nt eat dog food just curry and cod
the thrilling adventures of Dippy the dog.

Oh my love
Let set sail for seas of passion now
Deeply dippy bout the way you walk
Contact sport, let the neighbours talk

We no know how we and dem a-go work this out, oy!
We no know how we and dem a-go work it out.

That they shed every day,
Oh, children, mark my word;

Oh, we no know how we and dem a-go work this out;
We no know how we and dem a-go work it out.
But in the beginning jah created everythin (oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh),

But now its too late,

Eating up all the flesh from off the earth, eh!
We no know how we and dem a-go work this out (we no know);

Jackie
Jackie lies trapped beneath a heavy man,
who didn’t care, or give a damn.
She’s waiting for the police to arrive
because this man’s no longer alive.
The night began with her friends in town
visiting the pubs and doing the rounds.
With endless laughs they were having a ball,
flirting with guys as last drinks were called.
The girls decided it was time for a meal
and an Indian curry was full of appeal.
Food was hot and they enjoyed what they had,
but Jackie ate too much, and she felt bad.
She went outside to get some air,
a car stopped and the driver spoke to her.
He pulled her in and then sped away
and came to a halt just off the highway.
He parked the car behind some trees
and tried to get her to open her knees.
Jackie screamed to leave her alone,
and begged him to take her home.
He pulled her towards the open door,
but she became stuck between seat and floor.
Dragging her clear he threw her to the sand,
threatening her, with knife in hand.
Fighting and struggling she told him he’d get life,
but as he was unzipping he dropped the knife.
Jackie grabbed the handle and he grabbed the blade.
As he fought for control, her decision was made.
She plunged the knife deep into his chest,
trapping the handle between him and breast.
Unable to push him off, she reaches his phone.
The police are coming, but she’s not alone.

Where the Wild Cats Whine
Jet black hair and her green eyes shine
Standing on a cloud in the cool sunshine
Tell me can you see her
Can you hear the wild cats whine
Will you let her take you home
Will you stay a little while
Will you spend some time.
Locked inside like a wild God's cry's
Ringing in her ears in the still of the night
Tell me can you see her
Reaching up to the sky
Looking for the place in the cool sunshine.
Years gone by but the days are the same
Rolling down the track like a dream freight train
I'm going to touch the sun
I'm going to look into her eyes
I'm going to try and find that place where the wild cats whine
Where the wild cats whine in the cool sunshine
With her jet black hair and her green eyes shine
I'm going to follow her home
I'm going to stay for a while
And spend some time in the cool sunshine
Spend some time where the wild cats whine
Locked inside like a wild God's cry's
Ringing in her ears in the still of the night
Now I see her reaching up into the sky
Waiting for me in the cool sunshine
Waiting for me where the wild cats whine.
Jet black hair and her green eyes shine
Waiting on a cloud in the cool sunshine
I'll be here for a while maybe longer than a day
Spend my time in the cool sunshine.
Spend my time where the wild cats whine.

Tried To Shower Away This Pain
I try to shower away this pain
But it comes right back to me
Hits me as I'm through
Then I'm filled with pain all over again
Sighing cause I have nothing to be happy about
Thought I could shower away this pain
But my thoughts just got washed down the drain
Now I realize I'm forced to stick with this pain for life
Wanting the pain to just go away
But I know that will never happen
Stuck here all alone
Wishing that someone would just kill this pain
Take it away from me for good
Cause I've tried everything to rid this pain and misery
And nothing works
Thought I could just shower this pain away
But that didn't even work
Thought I could drown out the pain
But now I'm stuck here writing away this pain
Hoping that it will relieve a part of this misery
Cause its hard for me not to want to die
Showering this pain didn't work
It stuck back to me like a magnet
I really don't want to die
But this pain is forcing me otherwise

I Cant Give Back The Love I Feel For You
(brian holland/nickolas ashford/valeriesimpson)
Heres a tear, for a souvenir
And a dream, thats torn at the seams
Heres a promise you made to me
Of the tomorrow Ill never see
And then youre free to go
But I cant give back the love
I feel for you
Im gonna be stuck with it
No matter what I do
Take these arms that held you close
I thought I was the one you needed the most
Take these hands, theyre no good to me
That used to touch you so tenderly
But I cant give back the love
Thats a part of me
If you want just a little bit
You have to take all of me
Heres a ring
That didnt mean a thing
And the letters you wrote
That gave my young heart hope
Take the pillow where my dreams were made
And the mind, where the thought of you stayed
But baby, you should know
That I cant give back the love
I feel for you
Im gonna be stuck with it
No matter what I do
Take these eyes that once could see
Now reflections of a misery
The hapiness I thought would last
Now a becoming just a thing of the past
But I cant give back the love
Thats a part of me
If you want just a little bit
You have to take all of me
No, I cant give back
No, I feel for you
Oh, Im gonna be stuck
No matter what I do
cause itll grow till the world
Dont go round no more
But I cant give back the love
I feel for you
Im gonna be stuck with it
No matter what I do
But I cant give back the love
I feel for you
Im gonna be stuck with it
No matter what I do
But I cant give back the love
I feel for you
Im gonna be stuck with it
No matter what I do

Snoop Dog, Baby
I just couldnt believe it, when I turned on
The radio, try to run, try to hide, try to keep it inside,
They were playin that song
And I thought about her
Snoop doggy dog, snoop doggy dog
So much trouble in the lbc
Livin without hers gonna drive me crazy...shes so.
Dont you just wanna kill me, cause youre talkin
Behind my back, well I love the band. theyre a
Great bunch of guys, but lookin at her brings
Tears to my eyes, Im watchin her shake
She gonna give a heart attack now, baby
Snoop doggy dog, snoop doggy dog
Maybe I dont want her back, you know?
Maybe I just cant let her go...Im so.
Well i, turn the radio off...
I dont want no part, try to make me a big star?
I dont wanna be a big star.
Everybodys mad they wanna kick me in the head
Was it somethin I did, was it somethin I said?
I would try to tell you but I just dont wanna lie
It really shouldnt matter but it makes me wanna
Cry, I wish I didnt care, I wish I didnt care...
But I do. snoop doggy dog (she said) snoop doggy dog
Please dont tell me itll be ok cause I know
Ill never never never get my way...
And so.

The Vision
Of things that roam about the bush I ain't got many fears,
For I knows their ways an' habits, and I've chummed with them for years.
For man or beast or gully ghost I've pluck enough to spare;
But I draws the line at visions with the sunlight in their hair.
When a man has fought an' conquered it is good in many ways:
There's the pride in having done it, an' the other fellows' praise;
There's the glory an' the standin' that you get among the men
All their looks are more respectful since I socked it into Ben.
I was feelin' fine this mornin' when I started out to work;
An' I caught myself high-steppin' with a boastful sort of jerk;
With my head a trifle higher an' my eye a little stern.
I thought the world was mine for keeps; but I'd a lot to learn.
Young Dick, the Dusty, wasn't half as cheeky as of old;
The men were actin' friendly-like, but I kept kind of cold
An' distant, as becomes a bloke who's scored a knock-out thump
Till just approachin' dinner time; an' then I got my bump.
It's fine to see your cobbers lookin' at you like the know
You're not a man to trifle with; at least, I found it so.
Ben Murray was quite affable, an' once he whispered me
There's a certain somethin' doin', an' he'll see me privately.
I was workin' at the rip saw, cursin' at my achin' back,
When I saw the blessed vision comin' down the log-year track.
There were others in the party, but the one that got my stare
Was her with two brown, laughin' eyes an' sunlight in her hair.
'More visitors!' growled old man Pike. 'Another city push.
I'll bet a quid they ask us why we 'spoil the lovely bush.'
I hardly heard him saying it, for like a fool I stand,
My eyes full of the vision an' a batten in my hand.
'You gone to sleep?' the sawyer said. 'What's got you mesmerized?'
I start to work like fury, but my thoughts can't be disguised.
'Oh, Jim's gone dippy with the Spring'; replies old Pike an' grins.
I turn to answer dignified; but trip, an' bark my shins.
Next thing I know the boss is there, an' talkin' fine an' good.
Explaining' to the visitors how trees are made of wood.
They murmur things like 'Marvellous!' an' 'What a monster tree!'
An' then the one with sunlit hair comes right bang up to me.
'I saw you fall,' she sort of sung: you couldn't say she talked,
For her voice had springtime in it, like the way she looked an' walked.
'I saw you fall,' she sung at me. 'I hope you were not hurt.'
An' suddenly I was aware I wore my oldest shirt.
'It never hurt me half as much as your two smilin' eyes.'
That's how I could have answered her - and watched old Pike's surprise
'It never harmed me half as much as standin' here like this
With tattered shirt an' grimy hands' . . . But I just says, 'No, Miss.'
'Oh, no,' I says. 'We're pretty hard, an' have to take them cracks.'
(But just to see her sudden smile, made me as soft as wax.)
'You're strong,' she smiles. I answers, 'Oh, I'm pretty strong, all right.'
An' close behind I heard old Pike observin', 'Hear 'im skite!'
That finished me. I lost what little nerve I had, an' grew
Dead certain that I looked a fool, an' that she thought so, too.
She talked some more; but I can't tell what other things she said.
I went all cold, except my ears, an' thye were burnin' red.
I only knew her eyes were soft, her voice was kind an' low.
I never spoke another word exceptin' 'Yes' an' 'No.'
I never felt a bigger chump in all my livin' days,
Well knowin' I was gettin' worse at every word she says.
An' when she went off with the rest I stood there, lookin' sick.
Until I caught a chance remark of little Dirty Dick.
'What price the widders now?' says he. I answer fierce an' low:
'Were you addressin' me?' I says; an' Dick was prompt with 'No!'
I don't know how I finished up; my thoughts were far from clear;
For, in between me an' the bench, that vision would appear.
No other man chucke doff at me, but by their looks 'twas plain
I'd lost a bit of that respect it took a fight to gain.
An', when the knock-off whistle blew, Ben Murray he came by,
An' says he'd like that private talk, but, 'Pickle it,' says I.
''Twill have to keep til later on.' He answers, 'As you like.'
Soon after that I saw him talkin' earnest with old Pike.
If I'd been right, I might have known there's somehting in the air
By the way the blokes were actin'; but a fat lot did I care.
Swell visions an' the deadly pip was what was wrong with me.
I slung a word to my old dog, an' we trudged home to tea.
An' after, in the same old way, we sits beside the fire,
To have a talk, my dog an' me, on fools an' vain desire.
I tell him I'm a silly chump to thnk the things to do.
An', with a waggle of his tail, he says he thinks so too.
I tell him I suppose she's rich, or so she seems to be;
Most likely some reel city swell - an' he don't disagree.
I says to him the chances are I'll not see her no more.
Then he gives me a funny look, an' curls up on the floor.
But I was slow to take the tip, an' went on talkin' rot
About injustice in the world, an' boiled up good an' hot.
I spouts of wrongs of workin' men an' how our rulers fail.
His eyes are shut, but he just seconds motions with his tail.
All beuaty's only for the rich, all times, an' every way.
The toilers just take what is left, as I've heard Murray say
When he's bene talkin' to the boys about the workers' rights,
An' spoutin' of equality, down at the huts, of nights.
I turned the social system inside-out for my old dog.
Tho' he don't seem much entertained, but lies there like a log.
I spoke of common people's wrongs - especially of mine;
But when I came to mention love I thought I heard him whine.
But I went on, an' said straight out that, tho' I seemed above
Such nonsense once, I'd changed a bit, an' I believed in love.
I said love was a splendid thing! . . . Then, true as I am born,
He rose, an' yawned, an' shut me up with one crook glance of scorn.
It's bad enough to be a bloke without one reel close friend;
But when your dog gives you the bird it's pretty near the end.
Ashamed, I sneaked away to bunk; an' fell to dreamin' there
Of a little brown-eyed vision with the sunlight in her hair.

Mother Doesn't Want a Dog
Mother doesn't want a dog.
Mother says they smell,
And never sit when you say sit,
Or even when you yell.
And when you come home late at night
And there is ice and snow,
You have to go back out because
The dumb dog has to go.
Mother doesn't want a dog.
Mother says they shed,
And always let the strangers in
And bark at friends instead,
And do disgraceful things on rugs,
And track mud on the floor,
And flop upon your bed at night
And snore their doggy snore.
Mother doesn't want a dog.
She's making a mistake.
Because, more than a dog, I think
She will not want this snake.

Stuck With You
Weve had some fun, and yes weve had our ups and downs
Been down that rocky road, but here we are, still around
We thought about someone else, but neither one took the bait
We thought about breaking up, but now we know its much too late
We are bound by all the rest
Like the same phone number
All the same friends
And the same address
Yes, its true, (yes its true) I am happy to be stuck with you
Yes, its true, (yes its true) Im so happy to be stuck with you
cause I can see, (I can see) that youre happy to be stuck with me
Weve had our doubts, we never took them seriously
And weve had our ins and outs, but thats the way its supposed to be
We thought about giving up, but we could never stay away
Thought about breaking up, but now we know its much too late
And its no great mystery
If we change our minds
Eventually, its back to you and me
Yes, its true, (yes its true) I am happy to be stuck with you
Yes, its true, (yes its true) Im so happy to be stuck with you
cause I can see, (I can see) that youre happy to be stuck with me
We are bound by all the rest
Like the same phone number
All the same friends
And the same address
Yes, its true, (yes its true) I am happy to be stuck with you
Yes, its true, (yes its true) Im so happy to be stuck with you
cause I can see, (I can see) that youre happy to be stuck with me
(yes its true) Im so happy to be stuck with you
Im happy to be stuck with you
Happy to be stuck with you.

Jam (A Hymn of Hate)
What is meant by active service
'Ere where sin is leakin' loose,
'N' the oldest 'and's as nervis
As a dog-bedevilled goose,
Has bin writ be every poet
What can rhyme it worth a dam,
But the 'orror as we know it
Is jist jam, jam, JAM!
Oh, the 'ymn of 'ate we owe it—
Stodgy, splodgy, seepy, soaky, sanguinary
jam!
There's the “fearful roar iv battle,”
What gets underneath yer 'at,
Mooin' like a million cattle
Each as big as Ararat;
There's the red field green 'n' slippy
(And I'm cleaner where I am),
But the thing that's got me nippy
It is jam, jam, JAM!
Druv us sour it has, 'n' dippy,
Sticky, sicky, slimy, sloppy, stummick-strafin'
jam!
Of the mud that's in the trenches
Writers make a solemn fuss;
For the vermin 'n' the stenches
Little ladies pity us;
But the yearn that's honest dinkum,
'N' the prayer what ain't a sham
Is that Fritz may bust 'n' sink 'em
Ships of jam, jam, JAM!
For we bolt 'em, chew 'em, drink 'em,
Million billion bar'ls of beastly, cloyin'
clammy jam!
We are sorry-sick of peaches,
'N' we're full right up of plum,
'N' innards fairly screeches
When the tins of apple come.
Back of Blighty piled in cases,
Jist as close as they can cram,
Fillin' all the open spaces,
Is the 'jam, jam, JAM!
Oh, the woe the soldiers face is,
Monday, Sunday, ruddy, muddy, boundless
bogs of jam.

I Wanted To Tell Her
I wanted to tell her but I stuck to my lies
I wanted to tell her till I looked in her eyes
I wanted to tell her but I stuck to my lies
I wanted to tell her till I looked in her eyes
I wanted to tell her
I needed to tell her
Just like the wind you blew away your happy lovers touch
You bring the blues into my heart just like a rush
I cannot bear the way my heart has helped to keep you close
Of you my babe I cannot get enough
You touch me baby
I loved you to the lines of lies you told when I asked her name
I knew the perfume in your hair just wasnt mine
Did you ever think to notice me when you wasnt home?
I noticed every time
I wanted to tell her but I stuck to my lies
I wanted to tell her till I looked in her eyes
I wanted to tell her but I stuck to my lies
I wanted to tell her till I looked in her eyes
Thought you noticed every time but you didnt notice a thing
Id have to cover up my calls when the telephone would ring
Im tired of you and the things you do and all the things you say
No more babysitting for neurotic girls today
Im thinking that the pain Im going through just to keep you babe
Is something that I should bear
Did you ever stop to notice me when you had nothing?
And I never cared?
Just like the wind you blew away your happy lovers touch
You bring the blues into my life just like a rush
I cannot bear the way my heart has helped to keep you close
Of you my babe I cannot get enough
You touch me baby, dont be mean to me!
I wanted to tell her but I stuck to my lies
I wanted to tell her till I looked in her eyes
I wanted to tell her but I stuck to my lies
I wanted to tell her till I looked in her eyes
I wanted to tell her but I stuck to my lies
I wanted to tell her till I looked in her eyes
I wanted to tell her
I needed to tell her

Dog In Sweden
Iggy says "I wanna be your dog."
But I want you to be a demigod
Look at my bow wow sitting there
Sniffing scratching without a care
Once upon a lifetime peroxide hair
What a heavy load to bear
What a heavy load to bear
Alcohol, drugs and rock n' roll
Come on doggy doggy let's go for a stroll
Before and after human growl so foul
And now animal and left to howl
A dog in Sweden, a man's best friend
Remember all those trends you set
And now you are a housewive's pet
Sit down bad boy, don't bow wow wow
Drink this milk from the sacred cow
Look at my bow wow sitting there
Sniffing scratching without a care
Once upon a lifetime peroxide hair
What a heavy load to bear
What a heavy load to bear
What no meat?
My bloodthirsty little bow wow
Hypnotised
Another family tree
Remember?
20th Century VIP
You may have been a king
You may have been a queen
You may have been Nehru
I'm sure there were a few smutty little scenes
Smutty little scenes
Hey doggy doggy, hey doggy doggy
Hey doggy doggy, hey hey hey
What a heavy load to bear
What a heavy load to bear !!

He'll Be Back
I know better than anybody how it feels to want somebody so bad after you break up
Still
(Looking for that phone call)
Still
(Even when they don't)
Still ain't ready to walk away and call it all over
Act like you wasn't listening when they told ya
They don't wanna be with you anymore
Stuck in your ways, you choose to ignore
'Cause in your mind, you're still together
Thought it would last but there's no forever
Walked out on you with no call, no letter
When he realize it don't get no better
Chorus:
He'll be back
To make up for the lonely days
He'll be back
When things ain't working out his way
He'll be back
When he sees that it's not the same
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back
He knows he's gonna need his lady
He'll be back
When his boys say he must be crazy
He'll be back
He'll know he made a big mistake
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back
You don't want to believe it but you see it happening
Wakes you up out of your sleep, out of the dreams you're having
Still
(Looking for his return)
Still
(Hoping that he's gonna learn)
Wake up and realize the truth, make some time for you
What's he trying to do to you
Miss him more as days go by
Try your hardest not to cry and keep hope alive
'Cause in your mind, you're still together
Thought it would last but there's no forever
Walked out on you with no call, no letter
When he realize it don't get no better
He'll be back
To make up for the lonely days
He'll be back
When things ain't working out his way
He'll be back
When he sees that it's not the same
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back (he'll be back)
(He'll be back)
He knows he's gonna need his lady
He'll be back
When his boys say he must be crazy
He'll be back
He'll know he made a big mistake
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back (he'll be back)
(He'll be back)
(Thinking)
(Every)
(Wanting)
(Haunting)
(Thinking)
(Every)
(Wanting)
(Haunting)
He'll be back
(Thinking)
(Every)
(Wanting)
(Haunting)
(Thinking)
(Every)
(Wanting)
(Haunting)
He'll be back
To make up for the lonely days
He'll be back
When things ain't working out his way
He'll be back
When he sees that it's not the same
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back (he'll be back)
(He'll be back)
He knows he's gonna need his lady
He'll be back
When his boys say he must be crazy
He'll be back
He'll know he made a big mistake
He'll be back (he'll be back)
He'll be back (he'll be back)
(He'll be back)

Just a load of silly limericks about people I know
I know young lady called Dee
Who lived in a bubblegum tree
She savoured the view
Whilst big bubbles she blew
And she only came down for her tea.
I know I young lady called Carolyn
Who said she was gonna go travelling
She afforded the lot
By a pay out she got
When her ex got impaled by a javelin.
There once was a poet called Ben
Who couldn't let go of his pen
He had a 'to do'
With some strong super glue
And it's been stuck there ever since then.
There once was a young Mr bright
Who wanted his farts to ignite
When he lighted the match
His fart just wouldn't catch
Coz the pants he had on were too tight!
I know a young lady called Laurie
Who burped after eating a curry
By god it was loud
And for this she was proud
Then she giggled and said she was sorry!
There once was a young man called Will
Who found it quite hard to sit still
He did not sit down once
No not even for lunch
It eventually made him quite ill
I know a lady called Karen
Who hired a group of hit men
She payed a few bob
For this one special job
And her ex was not spotted again
I know a girl called Nicola
Who craved for a day at a spar
She wanted shellac
And a rub of her back
But thought waxing was going too far

Feelings: Well Worth It
Feeling bad for
chocolate and sweets
and all things
nice, but curry?
not worth pain
for a taste mundane -
you wanted curry
it's not reasonable
to inflict it on me
knowing the sequel; I
can’t eat it, and now
the pills don’t work
I’m stuck in pain,
should you make curry
again, I’ll settle
for a big Chocolate cake
and then when I
die inside,
it will be
Well Worth It!

Uncle Mart's Poem
THE OLD SNOW-MAN
Ho! the old Snow-Man
That Noey Bixler made!
He looked as fierce and sassy
As a soldier on parade!--
'Cause Noey, when he made him,
While we all wuz gone, you see,
He made him, jist a-purpose,
Jist as fierce as he could be!--
But when we all got _ust_ to him,
Nobody wuz afraid
Of the old Snow-Man
That Noey Bixler made!
'Cause Noey told us 'bout him
And what he made him fer:--
He'd come to feed, that morning
He found we wuzn't here;
And so the notion struck him,
When we all come taggin' home
'Tud _s'prise_ us ef a' old Snow-Man
'Ud meet us when we come!
So, when he'd fed the stock, and milked,
And ben back home, and chopped
His wood, and et his breakfast, he
Jist grabbed his mitts and hopped
Right in on that-air old Snow-Man
That he laid out he'd make
Er bust a trace _a-tryin_'--jist
Fer old-acquaintance sake!--
But work like that wuz lots more fun.
He said, than when he played!
Ho! the old Snow-Man
That Noey Bixler made!
He started with a big snow-ball,
And rolled it all around;
And as he rolled, more snow 'ud stick
And pull up off the ground.--
He rolled and rolled all round the yard--
'Cause we could see the _track_,
All wher' the snow come off, you know,
And left it wet and black.
He got the Snow-Man's _legs-part_ rolled--
In front the kitchen-door,--
And then he hat to turn in then
And roll and roll some more!--
He rolled the yard all round agin,
And round the house, at that--
Clean round the house and back to wher'
The blame legs-half wuz at!
He said he missed his dinner, too--
Jist clean fergot and stayed
There workin'. Ho! the old Snow-Man
That Noey Bixler made!
And Noey said he hat to _hump_
To git the _top-half_ on
The _legs-half!_--When he _did_, he said,
His wind wuz purt'-nigh gone.--
He said, I jucks! he jist drapped down
There on the old porch-floor
And panted like a dog!--And then
He up! and rolled some more!--
The _last_ batch--that wuz fer his head,--
And--time he'd got it right
And clumb and fixed it on, he said--
He hat to quit fer night!--
And _then_, he said, he'd kep' right on
Ef they'd ben any _moon_
To work by! So he crawled in bed--
And _could_ a-slep' tel _noon_,
He wuz so plum wore out! he said,--
But it wuz washin'-day,
And hat to cut a cord o' wood
'Fore he could git away!
But, last, he got to work agin,--
With spade, and gouge, and hoe,
And trowel, too--(All tools 'ud do
What _Noey_ said, you know!)
He cut his eyebrows out like cliffs--
And his cheekbones and chin
Stuck _furder_ out--and his old _nose_
Stuck out as fur-agin!
He made his eyes o' walnuts,
And his whiskers out o' this
Here buggy-cushion stuffin'--_moss_,
The teacher says it is.
And then he made a' old wood'-gun,
Set keerless-like, you know,
Acrost one shoulder--kindo' like
Big Foot, er Adam Poe--
Er, mayby, Simon Girty,
The dinged old Renegade!
_Wooh!_ the old Snow-Man
That Noey Bixler made!
And there he stood, all fierce and grim,
A stern, heroic form:
What was the winter blast to him,
And what the driving storm?--
What wonder that the children pressed
Their faces at the pane
And scratched away the frost, in pride
To look on him again?--
What wonder that, with yearning bold,
Their all of love and care
Went warmest through the keenest cold
To that Snow-Man out there!
But the old Snow-Man--
What a dubious delight
He grew at last when Spring came on
And days waxed warm and bright.--
Alone he stood--all kith and kin
Of snow and ice were gone;--
Alone, with constant teardrops in
His eyes and glittering on
His thin, pathetic beard of black--
Grief in a hopeless cause!--
Hope--hope is for the man that _dies_--
What for the man that _thaws!_
O Hero of a hero's make!--
Let _marble_ melt and fade,
But never _you_--you old Snow-Man
That Noey Bixler made!
