Colombo

Waves topple like skittles down the beach
A gecko is the room’s unpaying guest
Sinbad sailed these seas by such a moon
The old colonial bed stands on stiff legs

A gecko is the room’s unpaying guest
The hotel writing paper’s wafer thin
The old colonial bed stands on stiff legs
Banjo the one-eyed dog howls for a bone

The hotel writing paper’s wafer thin
Catamarans hunt tuna round the bay
Banjo the one-eyed dog howls for a bone
Tropical lightning cleaves the night in two

Catamarans hunt tuna round the bay
Waves topple like skittles down the beach
Tropical lightning cleaves the night in two
Sinbad sailed these seas by such a moon

Sitting In My Hotel

If my friends could see me now, driving round just like a film star,
In a chauffeur driven jam jar, they would laugh.
They would all be saying that its not really me,
They would all be asking who Im trying to be.
If my friends could see me now,
Looking out my hotel window,
Dressed in satin strides and two-tone daisy roots,
If my friends could see me now I know they would smile.
Sitting in my hotel, hiding from the dramas of this great big world,
Seven stories high, looking at the world go by-y.
Sitting in my hotel room, thinking about the countryside and sunny days in june.
Trying to hide the gloom, sitting in my hotel room.
If my friends could see me now, dressing up in my bow-tie,
Prancing round the room like some outrageous poove,
They would tell me that Im just being used
They would ask me what Im trying to prove.
They would see me in my hotel,
Watching late shows till the morning,
Writing songs for old time vaudeville revues.
All my friends would ask me what its all leading to.
Sitting in my hotel, looking through the window at the people in the street,
Seven stories high looking at the world go by,
Sitting in my hotel, looking at the world outside.
If my friends could see me now they would try to understand me,
They would ask me what on earth Im trying to prove.
All my friends would ask me what its all leading to.

Gecko Meets Me

I told a gecko telepathically
“I wish I could once touch thee,
I looked at my hand and instantly
gecko was there,
really soft and light as air.
Gecko was very smooth and cool,
like water in a swimming pool.
Then gecko jumps off my hand
just like that as fast as he can,
Hopefully gecko is safe at home,
over by the flowers and gnomes.

BEACH

On the beach, egrets sleep, peacefully curled together.
Waves roaring and waves wildness wipe on the beach.
The moon is reflected on the water.
This scene could bring a person close with GOD,
GO TO ON ANY BEACH.

Paper Thin

Rich and wealthy canvas
Clustered up in jewels
Finding all your heavyweights
Are featherweights and fools
Broken all your promises
Broken all your paper plates
Clustered in gold
Crusted in gold
Heavy and hollow
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
Heavy and humble
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
In origami cities
In nations build on sand
Love got bend right outta shape
Things got outta hand
Polystyrene skylines
Papier mch smiles
Rusted and bruised
Tarnished and frail
Heavy and hollow
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
Heavy and humble
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
Stars scrape the moon
And the moon scrapes the sky
We stand beneath
Wondering why
Stars scrape the moon
And the moon scrapes the sky
We stand beneath
Wondering, wondering why
Paper buys the men
The men that make the bomb
The bomb that makes this world
Paper thin!
Money markets crumble
Gentle as a drum
But if you see me stumble, im
Paper thin!
Life is but a fragile thing
So delicate and pure
An accolade bestowed on us
Paper thin!
So contemplate the skull
The skull beneath the skin
One day we all die, were
Paper thin
Bury your destruction
In your last battle hymn
The barriers between us, make em all
Paper thin! paper thin!
Paper thin! paper thin!
Underneath the paper moon
The sky is paper thin
Torn into a thousand shreds
So let the solar system in
Rich and wealthy canvas
Clustered up in jewels
Finding all your heavyweights
Are featherweights and fools
In origami cities
In nations build on sand
Love got bend right outta shape
Nothing ends as planned
And its all-paper thin
Paper thin. paper thin

A werewolf howl

A howl in the night,
Cuts the silence in two,
A howl in the night,
Makes you ask ‘who? ’

It is a lonely hunter,
That stands on the field,
It is a lonely hunter,
That hasn’t yet killed,

A creature so big,
All covered in pelt,
A creature so big,
Whit its head high held,

A wolf on two legs,
Howls to the moon,
A wolf on two legs,
Is going to kill soon,

It is called a werewolf,
Deadly as few,
It is called a werewolf,
If just you knew.

Tropical Depression

I thought some time in the sun
Would help me get over you
But I could tell from day one
This is a place meant for two
Now here I sit on the beach
Watching the tide ebb and flow
I booked my room for a week
But now Im ready to go
Im in a tropical depression
Ive got the blue water blues
Cant shake this loving you obsession
Cant stand this sand in my shoes
This forgetting you vacation
Is just a fools holiday
If I cant get over you
This tropical depressions gonna
Blow me away
This should be paradise
Heaven down by the sea without you here by my side
It feels like hell to me
Chorus
If I cant get over you
This tropical depressions gonna
Blow me away
If I cant get over you
This tropical depressions gonna
Blow me away

The Catamarans@Kattumaram

The catamaran floats silently in the shallow water,
Waves and whales not bothered, a lone man on board,
The logs of palm tied together to sail through the waves,
It floats always, never drowned, but drifted sideways.

The modern catamarans of logical mind,
Accumulate as many as heavily battered wounds,
No time to heal and no willing to dispose and disown,
The overloaded catamarans certainly drown.

Look at our own jammed up hearts and minds,
Where we stored all ill revengeful thoughts,
Not to let our catamaran to sink in wasteful worries,
Pick one by one and throw away all that unnecessary.

Oh, Susannah

Well I come from alabama with my banjo on my knee
And Im bound for louisiana, my own true love for to see
It did rain all night the day I left
The weather was bone dry
The sun was so hot I froze myself
Suzanne, dont you go on and cry
I said, oh, suzannah
Now, dont you cry for me
As I come from alabama with this banjo on my knee
Well I had myself a dream the other night
When everything was still
I dreamed that I saw my girl suzanne
She was coming around the hill
Now, the buckwheat cake was in her mouth
A tear was in her eye
I said, that I come from dixie land
Suzanne, dont you break down and cry
I said, oh, suzannah
Now, dont you cry for me
cause I come from alabama with my banjo on my knee

A terzanelle to an island girl

On a island beach beguiling
I have met a lady by the water caressed,
slender, tiger eyed and smiling

with a warmth not guessed,
nobility moulded into every speck.
I have met a lady by the water caressed,

duskily from toe to neck,
with eyes burning into my heart,
nobility moulded into every speck,

awaking passion in every part,
as an image of charming glory
with eyes burning into my heart,

talking their own story
at our rendezvous
as an image of charming glory.

Girl, I met you
on a island beach beguiling
at our rendezvous
slender, tiger eyed and smiling.

The Waves

(jack hues / darren costin / nick feldman)
Working at your job all day
Sends the time spinning away
Watch tv from half past six
Cook, make love and pick up sticks
But you can hear the waves crash on the beach
At night
Books you read can sublimate
Music seems to dissipate
And maybe just a bottle of wine
And a couple of smokes and youll be fine
But you still hear the waves crash on the beach
At night
You can feel the waves crash on the beach
At night
Your lover lies beside you fast asleep
The moonlight falls upon the tears you weep
And you can hear the waves crash on the beach
At night oh at night
So all you really need is love
Love to give, receive above
And then the waves will soothe your heart
Your one true love will never part
True love (is the answer to everything
True love is the answer true love is the thing)
True love (is the answer to everything
True love is the answer true love is the thing)
And we will lie together both asleep
The moonlight will provide the tears we weep
And as we breathe the waves crash on the beach
At night
And as we breathe the waves crash on the beach
At night

Ode to Poverty

poetry in progress

i have seen poverty
climb stairs to make
that morning paper
available at the top floor

i have seen poverty
climb stairs to sell that
wrapped farm chicken
quiet and bowed,
in a one star hotel

i have seen poverty light
oil lamp in the dead of night
with the hope to leap from rags
to cosier enclave through
pen and ink, alphabets,
arab numerals, mind spinning algebras,
logarithms, and medical lexicons

i have seen poverty
take men across turbulent seas
oceans, to strange lands
to make money for home
thousands of miles away

i have seen poverty sweats
from dawn till dusk
under the tropical sun
smoothening highways,
coating multi-storey buildings

i have seen poverty carry
a senile Chinese woman on
shoulders up a famous hill resort
she to admire her honeymoon spot
he to put meals on the table
for mom and dad, brothers and sisters

i have seen poverty gulp
men and women in the seas,
throw them helter skelter
in a murderous web of human
trafficking and slavery

i have seen poverty turn
graceful beautiful maidens
into thin, nerve wracking
frames, wrinkles and flesh
driven to the edge of existence

The Banjo

I heard a banjo pluck a tune
and thought to myself 'it's only noon.'
Shouldn't banjos be plucked at night
while girls are clogging in delight?

I turned and saw the banjo player
and could tell that he was just a purveyor
of musical beats for all the girls
with round hoop skirts and golden curls.

Dance away you southern belles
while the magnolia sweetly smells.
For when the banjo is all strummed out
the gents shall clap and loudly shout.
'More, more. It's only noon.

Green Eyed Mermaid

There’s a green eyed mermaid
who lives deep in the sea,
she has a mermaid tail
all sparkly and bluish green.

At night with the light of moon,
her eyes turn more greenish blue.
But green mostly during the day,
her big eyes have specs of brown not grey,

She sits on the rocks to get a tan,
she uses her tail as a fan.
Her tail flaps, swish, swish, swish.
Then at night when all fishes asleep,
she goes to rocks again and has a peep.

She looks at moon and makes a wish,
she wishes a pirate would give her a kiss.
Then she see’s his ship come to shore,
she anxiously waits, wondering what’s in store.

Pirate lands, and spots green eyed mermaid’s eyes,
he becomes totally hypnotized.
Realizing he sealed his fate,
he kisses her and they sets a date.

A date is set to
A date is set to marry thee,
Yes, green eyed mermaid Melodie.
Then the both go to sea,

Melodie is now a human with legs,
Her pirate husband has one leg as peg.
Now they sail the seas,
Melodie is so happy she is free.

Stir Like Flashes Of Moonlight

Memories of teenage summer nights
stir like flashes of moonlight
on North Beach sea waves at night

blurred water white crested sight
rolling in upon shadowed beach
next to Tip Head skimming illusions

polished images of how we were
seen through introspective lens
ghost cries of gull and youth

mingle then now through dimensions’ change
some swam hard to catch wildfire lightning
to voice shock waves echo in new lands

Burnt Paper

it is a cut-out paper
thin
delicate white
sharp

it is my world
apart from yours

i stay away from
rain

put my paper feet
on wood

as you pretend to be
the woman of
my pen

you touch
but what you touch is just
my paper
me

i have no more flesh
no bone

the years have eaten them
all

it cut-out from a shape
of your desire

i am burnt.

Under A Blanket Of Stars...

As we walked along the beach, crashing waves
thundered in our ears and a light, salted mist,
dampened our lips.

The sun began to set and the voice of the beach,
traveled across the ocean waves.

'I am the beach, and here you shall find peace.
I am the beach, here you shall find love.

In this domain, my beach, the answers you
search for, could very well be found here.
For at this beach, there is much,
that has been revealed.

The sparkled, white grains of sand, that blanket
this beach, has been a bed of comfort, to many.

Pause, as you come upon this beach, and listen
to the symphony of waves and the chorus of
birds, singing their song, as they glide in the wind.

Feel the power of this beach, as it seems to
renew your inner being. You need not question
the beach and its mystical powers. For as
millions before you have found, the beach...
and its magical transference to one...have
existed, since the beginning of time.

Be not troubled, for the beach is close at
hand. You need only to deliver your strife,
to the tranquility of the beach and it shall
be exercised from you.

When you go from this beach...leave with
the peace that you have found here.'
