Bringing Triumph To The Brain
Advances in research depend
on unexpected brilliant breaks
the gods fortuitously send
not triumphs born of our mistakes.
Gruesome often is the fate
emerging from a triumph, but
mistakes will often impregnate
a barren mind that had been shut.
Although by blind spots we’re deceived,
and inspiration tends to wane,
errors that we have conceived
may bring triumph to our brain.
Inspired by Owen Gingerich’s review of Ingrid D. Rowland’s book “Giordano Bruno” (The Long Road to Infinity, ” WSJ, December 19,2008) :
Part of her purpose, she says, is to portray Bruno as a literary figure: “He was perhaps, more a poet than an empirical observer. Yet his intellectual contradictions, his blind spots and his insights serve as a reminder that scientific investigation has always depended on inspiration as well as investigation, on mistakes as well as triumphs.”..Ms. Rowland’s gripping chronicle gives a clear picture of his pilgrimage and a vivid, horrifying account of his trial and gruesome fate––in Rome’s public square.

Bruno, Bruno
Where are you?
Are you scaling Batu Lawi?
Are you still up there on Batu Lawi?
Are you still with your
Beloved Borneo tribes?
Where are you Bruno?
Your family are waiting
Your friends are waiting
For you back in Basel
Missing you day and night
Your tribal comrades too
Are longing to see your
Courageous face again
Missing your inspiration
Bruno, Bruno
Are you really on the run?
Away from those
Who are on your heels?
Away from those
Who swear to put
You behind bars?
Away from those
Who wish to send
You back home?
Bruno, Bruno
You are brave
Your are adventurous
You are indomitable
In fighting for your beloved
Borneo brethrens
But Bruno, Bruno
It is a lost cause
Isn't it?
Is there a better
Way to stand up for them?
Is there a better
Way to stand up for them?
Bruno, Bruno
But where are you?
Are you still up there on Batu Lawi?
Are you still up there on Batu Lawi?

In figure skating
In figure skating its the small triumphs that matter the most.
When you can't get back all the time lost.
I had a lot of fun landing an axel.
To me it was almost felt like landing a triple axel.
I know it was only a small triumph but to me it was wonderful.
I never was able to get many hours of practice.
I did my best on the ice.
All figure skaters work hard to have patience.
They may never know if they will recieve their biggest
or smallest triumph.
Even If I went back and landed a triple axel.
I would still look back fondly on my small triumph.
To be honest though the axel to me is my greatest triumph.
An axel was like setting myself free.
If your thinking that small triumphs are great.
I would love to agree.
In figure skating people are always coming and going.
Not many of them get to experience the power of jumping.
Some of them will never know.
An axel feels like a bird or plane flying.
A lot of them will never come back because of the fear of falling.
So anyones triumph could be not quiting.
The smallest triumphs should never be put down because this is
a figure skaters very beginning.
Every figure skaters story deserves to be told.
Even if they never won an olympic or any type of gold.
A figure skater must have joy or her sport will get old.
So please don't underestimate small triumphs in figure skating.

Upon A Looking Glass
In this see thou thy beauty, hast thou any,
Or thy defects, should they be few or many.
Thou may'st, too, here thy spots and freckles see,
Hast thou but eyes, and what their numbers be.
But art thou blind? There is no looking-glass
Can show thee thy defects, thy spots, or face.
Comparison.
Unto this glass we may compare the Word,
For that to man advantage doth afford
(Has he a mind to know himself and state),
To see what will be his eternal fate.
But without eyes, alas! how can he see?
Many that seem to look here, blind men be.
This is the reason they so often read
Their judgment there, and do it nothing dread.

Miracle of Mistakes
For each adult who now stands tall,
How many times a baby’s fall?
The eloquence for which we reach,
Bought by a child’s stammered speech.
So not to err is not to walk,
And no mistakes would mean no talk.
Look deep in self for what it takes.
There’s no reward without mistakes.
To improve means being wrong
To find that place where you belong.
Upon arrival wisdom’s clear.
Mistakes have helped bring each one here.
For to learn is to fall,
Then rise again and give it all.
Each time that doubt interferes,
View the start of all your years.
Walks and talks could not take place
Unless mistakes helped carve their space.
From baby’s wisdom do confess.
With no mistakes there’s no progress.

Masking yourself
Sasha screamed at me this morning
Grace yelled at me yesterday
Mom barked at me the day before
It was all my fault
My mistake
The mistake
As I knew it would be
Once we are alone
The mistake was not being able to avoid the mistake
Until fate avoided it itself
And what's more to bear
Than the lesson of yesterday
And then today
Life cannot be a charade
If you learn from your mistakes
And mistakes you didn't make
Because you won't need to mask yourself
From your mistakes

To make no mistakes is not in the power of man; but from their errors and mistakes the wise and good learn wisdom for the future.
Palpable Mistake
mistakes are palpable
sometimes and equity
demands a correction,
some mistakes are
so serious however,
death is demanded
by strict justice and
divinity weeps for
another soul wasted
humanity pretends
another victory
a triumph for its
blood thirsty instincts
another life is taken
in payment of a debt
I have read it somewhere
they have thrown the last stone,
and
Jesus wept,

Mecha-mania Boy
This is the boy who burns the books
This is the way he always looks
This is the boy who smashed his car
This is the boy who went too far
Washed his eye with yellow soap
He stole his daddys microscope
All alone, were not proud
Never say his name aloud
Now he wants to know your little mistakes
Where he goes, and whence he came
Its a mecha-mania boy
This is the boy who never sunk
He aint the one who destroys his young
Oh, no
Everybody thats the way to roll
All alone or on the telephone
He knows the time you spend at home
Oh, no
Never say I didnt tell you so
Washed his hands of a deadly fate
He put himself in an altered state
In a crowd or all alone
No-ones laughing anymore
Now he wants to know your little mistakes
Where he goes, and whence he came
Hes a mecha-mania boy
All alone, were not proud
Never say his name aloud
Now he wants to know your little mistakes
Where he goes, and whence he came
Its a mecha-mania boy
In a crowd or all alone
No-ones laughing anymoer
Now he wants to know your little mistakes

That's What Woke Me Up
In disbelief?
I was too,
Before I accepted.
There was a time,
I placed truth on trial.
Everything vivid,
Became for me a denial.
My thoughts and observations,
Were clearer than my own footsteps.
But when I began to follow my mind,
To leave doubt and fear behind...
I knew I was fine!
Not that I declared anything wrong.
I was not right with it.
And that took a long time to see.
I didn't understand that immediately.
Until I saw 'me'.
And the pieces on the outside,
Completed a total fit.
I began to see things as they were.
And not what I thought they should be.
I had been against the naturalness of it.
With interpretations I 'heard' should be mine.
I saw that to be imperfect.
And I became disturbed by it.
And doing my best to sit and fix the imperfect in me.
And God does not make mistakes on purpose.
To fake them as something done unconscious.
People do!
To unloosen but not tighten screws.
And that's what 'woke' me up!
I began to tighten up my activities quick,
To overdose on reality.
Now I've got my dosages under control.
In disbelief?
I was too,
Before I accepted.
There was a time,
I placed truth on trial.
Everything vivid,
Became for me a denial.
Until I saw 'me'.
And the pieces on the outside,
Completed a total fit.
I began to see things as they were.
And not what I thought they should be.
Because they could never be how I saw them.
I saw them to be imperfect.
Not comprehending a thing as I followed.
To become involved in an assortment of heartbreaks.
And God does not make mistakes,
To fake them as something done unconscious.
People do!
And I no longer follow those who have eyes,
They allow to remain clouded.

Every age has its massive moral blind spots. We might not see them, but our children will. Slavery was one of them and the people who best served that age were the ones who called it as it was — which was ungodly and inhuman. … Segregation. There was another one. America sees this now but it took a civil rights movement to betray their age. … What are the ideas right now worth betraying? What are the lies we tell ourselves now? What are the blind spots of our age?

There's always reasons to make mistakes. Because then you do new mistakes next time. So they're beautiful mistakes.

On The Death Of Sir Rowland Cotton Seconding That Of Sir Robert
More Cottons yet? O let not envious Fate
Attempt the Ruine of our growing State.
O had it spar'd Sir Rowland, then might wee
Have almost spar'd Sir Robert's Library.
His Life and th' others bookes taught but the same;
Death kils us twice in blotting twice one Name.
Give Him, and take those Reliques with consent;
Sir Rowland was a Living Monument.

The brake
I can correct mistakes
But write with mistakes.
I can edit passages
But am poor in creating ones.
A brake is not an accelerator.
It serves us as a regulator.

Living My Life
I’m living my life the way I want to
No one’s going to tell me what to do.
I’ve got to make my own mistakes
And if it’s wrong then it’s my fate.
You’ve already lived your life and like most
Mistakes you’ve made quite a few
That is what we all seem to do.
I’ll make mine so I can’t pass the blame
And I’ll hang my head in shame.
I am young and a teen, and there is
So much in life to be seen.
I’ll make mistakes, I know that’s true
But it’s something that I have to do.
I love you mom and dad, and I know you care
But you can’t live my life
It’s just not fair.
You should know for you went through the same
And on your parents “ did you pass the blame? ”
The dress, the talk, the way we look at life
We do not think about it once or twice.
We just do what’s in that style
And we’ll grow out of it in a little while.
Trust your children “ mom and dad”
For your future is our plan.
