An ode to silence

unmoving untold
beguiling and bold
in the depths of my meandering drifts
lie the silence of times

unmoving with permanence
undeterred with resonance
in the unshed tears of my heavy heart
lie the silence of times

unmoving and brilliant
surreal and insistent
in the quest of the kaafir within
lie the silence of times

unmoving yet increasing
hazy, misty and fading
in the crimson light of my throbbing veins
lie the silence of times

Heartsong, heart's dance

In silence, every song that’s sung
is as a wheatgrain in the hand;
known in wonder, love and awe;
its essence more than human sound;

in stillness, every joyful dance
is summed as if in perfect prayer;
though every muscle yearns to praise,
unmoving; more than mind in air;

silence sings and stillness dances
in the freedom of the heart;
self, content to be the watcher;
loving each and every part.

Unicorn 14

When you catch a glimpse of it,
in the sunlit glade,
among the high hills,
among the white-crested waves,
does it move?
or is it unmoving,
this graceful vision of it?

it seems unmoving, yet
faster than the mind moves;
ahead of all your senses;
even roaming wild and joyful
among the high hills,
its white mane flying free,
somehow it's still
within its movement,
within your stillness;

can you see the tracks of fish,
or the airy passage of the birds?
it's beyond movement, even beyond stillness;
and yet, you love it,
yearn for it, although it - because it
runs faster than the mind of man.
Is that its love?

Spider Web

The spider web drifts,
abandoned, useless,
high in the window
bright in the setting sun,
close to a world in motion.

Not immersed in the savage flow,
it is protected from wild birds
that caw in the swaying tree
peering down
at creatures bound to solid,
unmoving ground.

Their motion
is sacred motion,

but the web just aimlessly stirs
in an inner breeze

always on the edge
of the living sea

held fast by stasis
of gravity.

Sigh Of The Returnee

it is not the fullness that
overflows
it is the emptiness

of the house when you arrive
when the door that feigns the abundance within the room
finally surrenders
to the brokenness of the hinges

it is the fullness that spreads
too quickly like an ink of the squid
from the previous paths
of its escapades
from the threats of the predating ell

it is the silence that fills
the nothingness that sings
the unmoving furniture dressed in dust
the tempura that is left uneaten
and now
filled with
molds.

The Mistake Of Falling For You

In life I have made mistakes
And sorrowfully now count another
It was to you I felt my heart falling
It was you who invaded my dreams
As beautiful as they were inspiring
I never wish to feel that way again
My heart bought a one way ticket
From you there was no return
And there alone my heart wept
I chanced myself to your care
You stood silent unmoving
Saying more that I wished to hear
All you did was look away
I fell for you it was my mistake
Maybe I should not chance my heart
Maybe I should not dream again
In life I have made mistakes
And in falling for you
I found only pain

Does It Need A V.day?

ever since the i within I
come to be acknowledged
i've been left in wonder
'what are you to me? '
well, it didn't really need
a valentine's day but it
needed only a silent peek within
to tell you, you're:
my laughter unbound
my silence expanding
my expression spontaneous
my emotions unvoiced
my tears unshed
and
my tears flowing...

Wave

Right out to the lighthouse and further
Fields of sheaves meshing and swashing.
All along the floorboards of fathoms
Sound ceaselessly threshes silence.

Water rising, floundering, water dancing,
Water flailed to water clinging
Between waves to a breezebeat pirouetting.
Crest and trough to the shore bringing

Alated landscape from a butterflied hill
Inside unmoving salient slopes
Aboard their observer's surrendered will

F. Scott Fitzgerald

Rain Before Dawn

He dull, faint patter in the drooping hours
Drifts in upon my sleep and fills my hair
With damp; the burden of the heavy air
Is strewn upon me where my tired soul cowers,
Shrinking like some lone queen in empty towers
Dying. Blind with unrest I grow aware:
The pounding of broad wings drifts down the stair
And sates me like the heavy scent of flowers.

I lie upon my heart. My eyes like hands
Grip at the soggy pillow. Now the dawn
Tears from her wetted breast the splattered blouse
Of night; lead-eyed and moist she straggles o'er the lawn,
Between the curtains brooding stares and stands
Like some drenched swimmer -- Death's within the house!

Silence Too Sounds

In a world where sound reigns,
And an era where sound adorns,
Seldom silence too sounds,

Even without a single wave formed,
Conveying everything even untold,
One among the unlimited expressions of nature,
A reliable expression for every creature,

Silence of breeze a matter of exaggeration for poets,
Even silence of the Last Prophet makes a solid statement for the believers,
Statue of Buddha in silence revealing peace and non violence,
Prayers to the God revivifying it into spirits in silence,
Tajmahal unveiling its majesty and magnificence,
While alone on a full moon night, in silence,
So at times silence angelic,

Sometimes terrific,
While in a graveyard or on the Day of Judgment,

At times tragic, when kept mum against,
the evils and vicious around by…

Doesn’t silence sound well….? Reciprocate at least in a sigh.

Death Sticking On A Bark Of A Tree

as i walk today
under the trees
when rain starts
to pour and i
take shelter
to find a
a cicada
unmoving by
the side
of a bark of
a tree

light and empty
only a shell

left-over of life
clinging still

Always Watching

Dark as the secrets
You hold in your heart
Stealthy as the night
Which silently departs

Haunted as the woods
To which no one goes
Swift as the river
Which downward flows

From the mountains to valleys
Through ancient hills
To an abandoned castle
Where on the window sills

Sits the bird of legend
Of luckless souls
The raven, unmoving
In his sentry's role

Egrets

Once as I travelled through a quiet evening,
I saw a pool, jet-black and mirror-still.
Beyond, the slender paperbarks stood crowding;
each on its own white image looked its fill,
and nothing moved but thirty egrets wading -
thirty egrets in a quiet evening.

Once in a lifetime, lovely past believing,
your lucky eyes may light on such a pool.
As though for many years I had been waiting,
I watched in silence, till my heart was full
of clear dark water, and white trees unmoving,
and, whiter yet, those thirty egrets wading.

The Past's Hovering Foot Steps

An unpleasant effluvia hangs
In the stale and unmoving air
As your haunted heart loudly bangs

Into the silence, a clanging blare.
It pumps: tapping, pittering
Unlike the feet of Fred Astaire.

No ritz, just beats and blunderings
Fumbled from this: your dancing ghost.
Its transparent maneuverings

Don't disappear, though they almost
Remain long enough to repeat,
To echo back with a swift riposte.

Waltzing reverb shoe prints secrete
An ectoplasmic residue,
A souring of things that seemed sweet,

The past's hovering steps press you.
An unpleasant effluvia hangs,
An ectoplasmic residue,
As your haunted heart loudly bangs.

Forbidden Love!

I cannot hold you close to my being
Forbidden love!
Nor can hope
For your love in return.
But try as much as I do
Can not just wipe you
off from my mind.
At times I think that's pretty dumb
At others
As I try it
my heart goes numb!

I cannot ever look into your eyes
Forbidden love!
Nor can dream
For me, you ever
would be there.
But try as much as I do
Can not just turn and walk away,
At times i think its okay,
This insanity!
At others,
I pity going waste
This long guarded sanity.

At times
I ask myself
What are you to me anyway?
Just another stranger,
Unknown face in the crowd.
At others
Something tells me
You are the only thing, everything
left for me,
of me,
in this strange, unknown world.

In love,
Forbidden love!
at times
I do not live
Neither in peace I die.
But at others
I often wish
If I could once,
Just once,
Hold you closest to my heart
break down in pieces,
and in wails could cry,
yes,
my countless, unshed tears.
O my love!
For once,
If I could just cry.-anjali

Buddha Jayanti Day

BUDDHA JAYANTI DAY

Our unshed tears with sorrow and pain,
Gets engraved on our face with passing
years!
I take solace from Buddha's enlightened
and sublime face,
The Lord who transcends all sorrow and
fears!
On this sacred day of His birth, as my time
gradually draws near,
I seek His blessings to give me strength,
And my mind to transcend those unshed
tears!

Eyes Hers And Mine

I look into my eyes
Beautiful kohl lined
Sad eyes,
Shiny with tears.
Tears unshed,
Tears controlled,
Tears saved from
Yesterday,
Possibly today.
I look deeper
Beyond the shine of those tears.
I see my soul,
Her eyes a reflection
Of mine.
Beautiful kohl lined,
Sad eyes.
In them,
I see the same wait
Which I see in mine.
I see the same pain
Which I feel in mine.
Tears unshed,
Tears controlled,
Tears saved from yesterday,
Possibly from today.
Her loneliness,
A bigger cry than mine.
But, something sets her apart,
There exists a difference,
There exists a spark,
Which I guess is missing in mine.
I see in her eyes
The spark called
"Hope"
A wish called
"tomorrow".
The determination
She will someday find
What she sought
Yet could not find
Yesterday,
Possibly will not find
Even today.
But tommorow
Will be the day
She will no longer need to cry
The tears unshed
Tears controlled,
Tears saved from yesterday
Possibly today.-anjali

Mortuary

That awful place
With blood red carpets
The color of death
Flowers everywhere
As if to say this
Is a happy place
I guess it is
A place of closing
Of peace to say goodbye
But to me that horrible place
Reeked of death and sorrow
Of tears shed and hearts broken
Laying in a casket
Cold and dead
I did not want my last memory
To be of that
I'm glad I didn't see it
Because everytime I would have
Thought of you
My first memory would
Be seeing you lay there
Unmoving
Lifeless
I miss you a lot
I'm still sad
And probably will be for awhile
But now your somewhere better

Silence 1.

Most times when I'm hurt,
My silence speaks for me.
She speaks very loud;
Even louder than a megaphone.

I choose to be silent, -
When most things happen,
Not because I cannot speak;
Nor that my words have evaded me,
But because in my silence-
There's a challenging power.

Sometimes in my fears,
When my heart is filled with love,
And my eyes with tears;
I learn to love, just like a dove.
My mouth moves to speak,
But is suddenly cut short by silence,
Silence in love, silence in fear.

Silence in tears, silence in joy;
And when I'm in this mood,
My silence stands so tall-
Even taller than a giant;
She makes her way; -
Even more than spoken words.

Spoken words of loud emotions,
They meet my silence-
And they tremble in awe.
I could hear those words;
They say to themselves,
'How art silence so mighty? '.
