The Mole Part One
In seinem Garten freudevoll
Aha! Schon hebt sich was im Beet,
Und Knoll erhebt sein Jagdgerät.
Schwupp! Da - und Knoll verfehlt das Ziel.
Die Hacke trennt sich von dem Stiel.
Das Instrument ist schnell geheilt;
Ein Nagel wird hineingekeilt.
Und wieder steht er ernst und krumm
Und schaut nach keiner Seite um.
A gardener by the name of Knoll
Goes for a joyful garden stroll.
His joyfulness, however, sours:
A mole is digging up the flowers.
He hurries off to fetch the hoe.
That old black burrower must go!
Instead of hit-or-miss aggression,
This problem calls for sly discretion.
Ah! Something's stirring in the patch,
And Knoll stands ready for the catch.
Take that! - And Knoll has missed his goal.
The hoe's asunder, not the mole.
The tool is mended without fail
By firmly wedging in a nail.
Again he's lurking, grave and bent,
Ignoring his environment.

The Mole Part Three
Kaum ist's vorbei mit dem Trara,
So ist der Wühler wieder da.
When all is quiet, as before,
The burrower appears once more.
Schnupp! dringt die Schaufel wie der Blitz
Dem Maulwurf unter seinen Sitz.
Knoll thrusts his spade and, doing so,
Attacks the creature from below.
Und mit Hurra in einem Bogen
Wird er herauf ans Licht gezogen.
Hoorah! And in a graceful arc
The mole emerges from the dark.
Aujau! Man setzt sich in den Rechen
Voll spitzer Stacheln, welche stechen.
Ow yow! The rake, a prickly thing,
When sat upon, is known to sting.
Und Knoll zieht für den Augenblick
Sich schmerzlich in sich selbst zurück.
Knoll, in the face of perforation,
Withdraws in painful contemplation.
Schon hat der Maulwurf sich derweil
Ein Loch gescharrt in Angst und Eil.
Meanwhile, the apprehensive mole
Makes haste to dig himself a hole.
Doch Knoll, der sich emporgerafft,
Beraubt ihn seiner Lebenskraft.
But Knoll, arisen, fierce and brave,
Annihilates the digging knave.
Da liegt der schwarze Bösewicht
Und wühlte gern und kann doch nicht;
Denn hinderlich, wie überall,
Ist hier der eigne Todesfall.
Here lies the scoundrel, sleek and sable.
He'd rather dig, but he's unable.
It does not suit him in the least
To be so suddenly deceased.

The Mole Part Two
Klabumm! - So krieg die Schwerenot! -
Der Nachbar schießt die Spatzen tot.
Klaboom! - Enough to lose one's head! -
The neighbour's shooting sparrows dead.
Doch immerhin und einerlei!
Ein Flintenschuß ist schnell vorbei.
But, anyhow and all the same!
The shooting's over. Knoll takes aim.
Schon wieder wühlt das Ungetier.
Wart! denkt sich Knoll. Jetzt kommen wir.
The monster's burrowing once more.
This is what Knoll's been waiting for.
Er schwingt die Hacke voller Hast -
Radatsch! - O schöner Birnenast!
Quite hastily he swings the hoe -
The pear tree's there to catch the blow.
Die Hacke ärgert ihn doch sehr,
Drum holt er jetzt den Spaten her.
The hoe's no good in times of need;
His trusty spade will do the deed.
Nun, Alter, sei gescheit und weise
Und mache leise, leise, leise!
Old boy, be silent, not a breath!
Let stealth and cunning be his death.
Schnarräng! - Da tönt ihm in das Ohr
Ein Bettelmusikantenchor.
Shnarrang! A din assaults his ear;
A band of street musicians 's here.
Musik wird oft nicht schön gefunden,
Weil sie stets mit Geräusch verbunden.
Music is always noise-related
And often not appreciated.

The Bell Rings
The bell rings through its own shadow.
Death knoll. Death knoll.
Reverberates and simulates the grief of eternity.
Valentine's love song chimes unheard in the ears of the pained.
They walk in stuffy, dry lines behind the moving pyre.
Why are they afraid to cry? Tradition dictates
Happiness.
They are moving to
The next world.
But no one laughs and coincidentally
No one cries
As the slow snake of despair slithers silently to the side of the stream.
The bell rings through its own shadow.
Death knoll. Death knoll.
Reverberates and simulates the grief of eternity.
Once a partnership expressed in words, now in emotion.
On this day we have opposites. The smoke rises from the bank
And every man has his head bowed. Every woman out of purile
RESPECT veils their face with mourning.
There
is
a
chain which is now broken.
There was love, there was a song,
Sung by the air, now full of smoke and flames,
Surged by the winds, now carrying her ashes
Now there is sadness and death.
The bell rings through its own shadow.
Death knoll. Death knoll.
Reverberates and simulates the grief of eternity.
The lotus trees dip over the side of the river where we used
To meet. There are two spaces on the grass were we sat.
They are empty now. The petals float away, carrying your memories
As the smoke in the air.
The bell rings through its own shadow.
Death knoll. Death knoll.
Reverberates and simulates the grief of eternity.

Wer Im Wartesaal Der Liebe Steht
Du und ich hatten unsre zeit
Ist es nun am ende doch soweit?
Kann es wirklich mglich sein?
Unser himmel war wolkenlos
War das alles eine tuschung b
Und du lt mich nun allein
Und nun strzt der himmel ein
Wer Im wartesaal der liebe steht
Wei, da es um alles geht
Und man fragt sich nur
Wie wird das noch enden
Wer Im wartesaal der liebe steht
Hofft es ist noch nicht zu spt
Alles wird sich vielleicht zum guten wenden
Alles wird sich vielleicht zum guten wenden
War das etwa de endstation
Und ich merkte einfach nichts davon
Hab ich mich denn so geirrt?
Was zu tun war hab ich getan
Jetzt kommt es auf andre dinge an
Niemand wei was mit uns wird
Woh der weg uns fhrt
Wer Im wartesaal der liebe steht
Wei, da es um alles geht
Und man fragt sich nur
Wie wird das noch enden
Wer Im wartesaal der liebe steht
Hofft es ist noch nicht zu spt
Alles wird sich vielleicht zum guten wenden
Alles wird sich vielleicht zum guten wenden

I Pulled Out My Shovel (Quatrain)
I Pulled Out My Shovel (Quatrain)
I pulled out my shovel
And dug a little hole
I dug even deeper
Trying to kill a mole
The digging was easy
The hole grew more and more
Then I thought to myself
I should have used my bore
I dug into the den
But the mole wasn't there
It was almost as if
It vanished in mid air
Then I saw a tunnel
It veered off to the right
So I thought to myself
I'd dig into the night
So I kept on digging
Until it petered out
Then I grew quite angry
So I had to shout
I never found that mole
But I did dig a hole
And filled it with a pole
Then formed a grassy knoll

When the playtime (recess) bell rings
When the playtime bell rings, it's time to cease fun,
when the playtime bell rings, it's time to grow up,
when the playtime bell rings, it's time to get serious.
When the factory whistle blows it's time to roll sleeves up,
when the factory whistle blows, it's time to pay bills
when the factory whistle blows, it's time to forego rebellious thought
When the church bells chime, it's time for commitment,
when the church bells chime, it's time to make plans
when the church bells chime, it's time to make compromise
When the death knoll tolls, it's time for regrets
when the death knoll tolls, it's time for rethinking
when the death knoll tolls, it's time for peace

Peach Knoll
Peach Knoll
A poem diffused in mid air, and the fog
to dropp off; to honor skies was our call,
attending a vow; there I recall our song,
comely ode, to recreate on Peach Knoll;
Up there we walked; O, so many stories
to recount; every detail was accurate,
amidst the trees, under a nightly Aries,
so many feelings, a night cold to equate.
How many trips we described in acuity,
and ports we reached in paths oceanic,
with our glary eyes staring to continuity,
and my nautical departure to Atlantic;
There we stayed; amidst the night trees,
our images to ascend a dream sceptic,
in trustful years, it was a simple breeze,
caressing vows, and your smile esthetic..
January night 't was, under an icy drizzle;
my leather jacket upon your shoulders
you denied, folded it, amidst the mizzle,
we both felt this vow, as it grew colder;
...................................
I walked uphill, at night, on twenty first,
similar drizzle to salute me, and to extoll
our song, as I walked on time reversed,
recalling your rainy smile, on Peach Knoll.

In Der Tiefe
Ergreift mich nun in wilder Hast
Das all unser Tun verschlingt
vergeht

Alphaville - Traumtaenzer
========================
tanz !

Geschmolzenes
Ein Rauhreif, der reifte
vor sich hin
ein silberner Reif
war sein Gewinn -
er dachte er wär schlau
doch dafür war er
viel zu rauh!
Es kam die Sonne
schnell heraus
da war sein kurzes
Leben aus.

Keine Selbstkontrolle
Essen - essen - essen
Immer noch so hungrig
Ich hoer nie wieder auf
Ich hoer nie wieder auf
Schlafen - schlafen - schlafen
Nachts immer so nervoes
Ich hoer nie wieder auf
Ich hoer nie wieder auf
Ich hoer nie wieder auf
Nein, hoer nie wieder auf
Schnell ans telefon
Egal welche nummer
Jede stimme ist mir recht
Zu weit diesmal
Viel zu weit hab ichs getrieben
Der kopf platzt - mir ist schlecht
Ich hoer nie wieder auf
Ich hoer nie wieder auf
Hinter jedem stuhl

Schreit Dein Herz
Wieder stehst Du hier
So reglos, jeden Tag
Und nichts geschieht um Dich herum
Alles schweigt um Dich herum
Der Regen strt Dich nicht
Dein Blick bleibt stumm und leer
Und Du suchst nach der Erinnerung
Doch was bringt Dir die Erinnerung
Der Krieg in Deinem Kopf
Erreicht Dich lngst nicht mehr
Denn Du weit, wer hier Verlierer ist
Wieder mal Verlierer ist
Unverndert stehst Du hier
Seit viel zu langer Zeit
Und die Erde dreht sich ohne Dich
Die Welt bewegt sich ohne Dich
Schreit Dein Herz
Konntest Du es je verstehen
Hast Du Dich gesehen
Schreit Dein Herz
Kannst Du nicht mehr weitergehen
Hast Du Dich
gesehen

Opus Null
1
Ich bin der große Derdiedas
das rigorose Regiment
der Ozonstengel prima Qua
der anonyme Einprozent.
Das P. P. Tit und auch die Po
Posaune ohne Mund und Loch
das große Herkulesgeschirr
der linke Fuß vom rechten Koch.
Ich bin der lange Lebenslang
der zwölfte Sinn im Eierstock
der insgesamte Augustin
im lichten Zelluloserock.

Er zieht aus seinem schwarzen Sarg
um Sarg um Sarg um Sarg hervor.
Er weint mit seinem Vorderteil
und wickelt sich in Trauerflor.
Halb Zauberer halb Dirigent
taktiert er ohne Alpenstock
sein grünes Ziffernblatt am Hut
und fällt von seinem Kutscherbock.
Dabei stößt er den Ghettofisch
von der möblierten Staffelei.
Sein langer Würfelstrumpf zerreißt
zweimal entzwei dreimal entdrei.
3

The Princess
Death of a Princess
Transparent, on top of a knoll
she stood the most famous woman
in the western world.
She tried to get down, could not
addicted to fame she had become.
Lightning struck, a torn newspaper
creation.
Ten million flowers sacrificed.
Her brother built her a shrine, in
the middle of a man-made lake,
pay the entrance fee and you just
might, on a clear day, see her shadow
walk on water.

A police road block
We went to the boy’s rugby match
it was at a school in Centurion
just south of Pretoria
and he was playing really well
got provincial colours
and went to the Craven week.
We parked up on a knoll
and you wanted to stroll down it,
to where the rugby field was
and I insisted that we follow
the road round,
but you cursed me
right there between the other parents
and was determined to have your way.
You didn’t want to hear anything
and your first step
going down that hillock
was the last that you took there,
since you stumbled and broke your leg
while I grabbed you to steady you.
I carried you down that little hill
and you were in great pain
and had your arms
around my neck
and at that moment
I knew that you loved me.
I went to fetch the car
and brought it round the knoll,
put you on the back seat
of your old green Honda ballade
with a lot of care and trouble
to get you in
without hurting you
and took you straight
to Unitas hospital
that was near.
I phoned the medical aid five times
while you were being admitted
to get a confirmation from them
to stop the hospital
from claiming a deposit
and when you were settled
I went home
to fetch some clothing
and toiletries.
I drove back with my own white Polo
and just at the hospital
was stopped by the South African Police
at a roadblock.
They made me get out of the car,
patted me down like a criminal,
wanted to see my drivers license,
was determined to search the car
and went through your
underclothes and things
and asked me what I am doing
with a suitcase of woman’s clothes
in the boot?
They were very rude
and I explained that I was taking it
to you in hospital
and was determined
to see their authority
to search my car.
They had the right order there
signed by a judge
for a roadblock and a search
of any car
on that stretch of road
but the police officer to whom
it gave authority
wasn’t there
and I demanded to see him
and they wrote my name
and identity number in a book
while I told them
that they were acting illegally
before they let me go.
You were glad to see me
and browsed through the magazines
that I brought
and I visited as long as I could
and asked the sister in the office
to take special care of you,
but when I left
the police and their roadblock
was no longer there.

Three-Mountain Pass
A cliff face. Another. And still a third.
Who was so skilled to carve this craggy scene:
the cavern's red door, the ridge's narrow cleft,
the black knoll bearded with little mosses?
A twisting pine bough plunges in the wind,
showering a willow's leaves with glistening drops.
Gentlemen, lords, who could refuse, though weary
and shaky in his knees, to mount once more?

Carnage!
Humanity disgraced!
Time's dearest toil effaced!
Poison gases and flame
Putting Nero to shame!
Bayonet, bomb and shell!
Merry reading for hell!
The wickedness! the waste!
Courage!
To gain their fiery goal,
Some crumbling, blood-soaked knoll,
How fearlessly they fling
Their flesh to suffering,
Offer their ardent breath
To gasping, shuddering death!
O miracle of soul!

Waggle and Jounce
Out on the lake
the whitecaps leap,
old lions shot in midair.
Not far from the water
I sit on a knoll
and open your letter.
You're in Sacramento now
singing for money.
Here in Chicago,
on hot August nights,
I lick in my dreams
at the scoops
in your shoulders.
I prefer them to ice cream.
In a week I'll fly out
and salute your nipples.
Long may your buttocks
waggle and jounce.
