Mr Dandelion's Seeds

No one
can catch
the dandelion seeds
from cartwheeling
across the sky
spreading
busy yellow flowers
for children
to thread their hair
and marvel
at spring.

Apology to a Dandelion

Dressed in luxuriant yellow
You can find her everywhere.
She crops up in green meadows
And well-manicured lawns
In picayune cracks of aged walls
Or along concrete sidewalks
In the heart of downtown
‘Dent de lion' the lion's tooth.

Some call her Wild Endive.
An admirable and humble flower
In spring her strong taproots
Send up through naked stems
Dazzling bright and intrepid blossoms
And white botanical lactic juice.
Kind, gentle and beautiful Dandelion
She is spiritual and eccentric
A celibate perennial wild plant
That has refused to live a sex life.

Her ovaries produce fertile seeds
Without having to be pollinated.
Her yellow flowers slowly turn
Into silvery white puffballs
Fitted with tufts that fly in the wind
Like a myriad of tiny parachutes.

Why are we so cruel to her?
She is so peaceful, tender and charming
A marvel of nature, tonic and stimulant
The medicinal plant ‘taraxacum officinale'.
She promotes health and removes poisons
And can be turned
Into fabulous salad greens
Or even into tea and wine.

So why do we hate her so much?
Why do we kill her in our gardens?
Why do we poison her
With deadly chemicals
Which harm Mother Earth and Us?

O, gracious dandelion
I ask for your forgiveness and apologize.

Yellow, bright and brash wherever I see

Duplicated Dandelion Diversity

what is a dandelion?
upon examination
a mini map mystery
wind reproductive diversity

multiple magnificent
miniaturized flowers
many tiny flight flower arrows
arranged symmetry reality

each tiny flower perceives
forms composite flower head
hundreds of yellow florets
upper layers raised to sky

butter cup yellow bright light
flower heart warms inflorescence
lower layers enlarge spread
curve down bow in symmetry

bright yellow bewitches souls
set off in contrast rich green grass
delights hearts walking grass blades
delights hearts walking green imagery

leaves form a rosette above central taproot
yellow to orange coloured flower heads spread
open in ray stream daytime close sleep night
flower heads mature spherical clocks spy

soon host birth transformations
real flowers wax dandelion blooms
each single flower head floret prepares
each seed stem attached white threads fluffy

cypselae on dandelion clock ticks
matured capitulum await breezes winds
to disperse in wind seed birth rights
hair-like calyx tissue waits above each ovary

each tiny flower has produced a seed
white spectral seed head manifests
design wonder delights child hands
dimensional layers link preflight mystery

seeds produce asexually by apomixes
where without pollination are produced seeds
offspring identical to the parent plants
resulting in offspring identical genetically

mystery mystery raptures in dandelions
strong breezes winds produce dandelion snows
run in fields as expand lift seed parachutes
seed-bearing parachutes create flower destiny

Busy

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy
but the old woman needs help
to find her way home.

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy
but the dove is too slow
to fly out of the way.

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy
but the children crossing the street
are too many.

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy....

I am busy
you are busy
we are...
busy.

Glints

I, a palpable Ghost,
become again Human
only to disappear, then reappear
haunting my Past

my Consciousness materializes
within this corporeal clay statue
realization dawns in brief glimpses
whilst gazing at tufts o' dandelion seeds
wafting away upon whimsical spring breezes

every Spring is every Spring Eternal
self-limitation begets the Infernal
the seed is the breeze is the flower
my dust swirls within an Ivory Tower

The Freedom Of Words

A dreamer
Trying to catch
The gold dust
As the sun
Bursts overhead
Illusive
As the cart wheeling seeds
Of the dandelion
Caught in a whirlwind
A maelstrom
All the better
For dispersil
Free from those
Who would eradicate them
As weeds.

A Leave-Taking

She will not smile;
She will not stir;
I marvel while
I look on her.
The lips are chilly
And will not speak;
The ghost of a lily
In either cheek.

Her hair--ah me!
Her hair--her hair!
How helplessly
My hands go there!
But my caresses
Meet not hers,
O golden tresses
That thread my tears!

I kiss the eyes
On either lid,
Where her love lies
Forever hid.
I cease my weeping
And smile and say:
I will be sleeping
Thus, some day!

Parents (a poem to sing)

Owning lands
moist soil
farmers
vow to sow.
Spreading seeds
all over
for healthy plants
to grow.
Watering the saplings
fertilising
good
for the health of plants.
Pruning them
and then
amidst the Godly chants.
Buds blossom
into flowers
fragrance
spreading
to and fro.
Farmers happy
rejoice flowers
blessed by
HIS graceful show.

Wonderful Seeds

What does sprout from seeds?
The flowers might, but do not war with deeds.
Then a darling panting comes from the breathing space,
Wonders adjust the expenses of the body, and this is the case.
The seeds of wonderful nature collide with the wind
To sprint in the sand and loam, all agog, all dinned.
Such surprise! Such a soil of wonderment!
The seeds from seeds are springing into flowers and abandonment.

Capeweed

Originally from South Africa and quite pretty indeed
Those flowers in Spring that cover the paddocks they are known as capeweed
With bright yellow petals and a dark brown heart
From all others quite easy to tell them apart.

Unwanted in Australia or 'twould seem that way
About them the farmers have no kinds words to say
But like thistles they survive deadly toxic spray
Though quite pretty to look at on a bright Spring day.

No strangers to the paddocks they are quite well known
And they have a beauty that is of their own
In late Winter and Spring in abundance to be seen
Their bright yellow flowers dapple Nature's own green.

The farmers cannot kill them off though hard they do try
And with each passing year they seem to multiply
In the paddocks they seem to dance in the breezes of Spring
When the weather is warming and the nesting birds sing.

Varied And Intense

Enriched my office world with two new
flowers, soft purple with yellow centre
and small, unassuming yellow sprig,
exuberance of spring in my life

Adding pink to the passionate orange
flowery explosions next to my desk
was a mistake, a pink cobweb scarf
with silver thread does not work

The colours of my aura probably are
varied and intense to demand such
an array of colours around me, I'm
happy; may this feeling continue

Until I go home today, I need strong
emotion to help me through this
dark shadow in my head…

My Sweet Violets

They are coming up in my gardens
Why, just like wild flowers they grow
A delicious early spring splash of color
That’s why I really love them so

They are pale as a spring violet can be
A lavender color they are
Tiny with a fragrance so special
The best early flower by far

They always infuse with my landscape
I love the perfect way that they blend
With other flowers like blue Forget-me-not’s
And when finished tiny seeds they send

I do so enjoy my flowers in spring
I even pick them for a wonderful bouquet
I wish you could visit my gardens as well
I’d serve you sweet tea without any delay!

Frangipanis

With bright arms spreading grabbing
the two frangipanis embrace each other,
reach with their fingers to the sun
in a age old gesture
and sometimes they look wild and disorderly
before their flowers burst out in light turquoise
and the wind spread their fragrance,
then they display flowers new and fresh,
while yellow weavers sing happily in their branches
and bees buzz past their flowers.

A Yellow Daffodil

When I went to school
oh, so many years ago
I remember a girl
who always wore a yellow daffodil.
She wore it in her hair,
spring, summer and fall
and not a day went passed
when she did not wear it at all.
No one knows why she wore it
nor what or whom it was for.
As the years passed
and we went, our separate ways
I often wonder what had became of
the girl who always wore a yellow daffodil.
I hope she had a happy life
with all the things that bring a radiant spring
and that all her dreams came true.
If you ever see a woman
wearing a yellow daffodil
just tell her that this someone
still remembers her from our childhood spring.

Seeds

in the fertile fields of our beings
tiny seeds are sown
and they always grow
and become flowers

they also exude scent
and display bright colors
to the sun

and they wilt before
we know it
simply because we are too busy
we could have given
these seeds enough time
to see how they become
themselves

so beautifully that we could
have adored them
even in a single moment
a very brief moment

yet we didn't and now we are sad
in this regret
this reminiscing
