Unrequited Love
I have immense affection for poets,
Those desperate lovers who often lose
All vestiges of sanity in amorous pursuits.
Propertius lived and wrote in Rome
A few decades before the birth of Christ,
He wrote passionately
Of his tumultuous relationship with Cynthia,
Cursing ships and seas when they took her away.
And then there is the nine year old Dante
Who sees the eight year old Beatrice
And realizes there will never be
A more beautiful seraphic girl;
He will marry another woman
For whom his father has promised him,
But he will never mention his wife in a poem
But will trust the prayers of Beatrice
To keep him and Virgil safe
Through the circles of Hell.
Less than a hundred years after Dante, enter Petrarch:
He sees Laura, a married woman,
For the rest of his life there is nothing
But love poems and tears;
He writes endlessly of her blonde hair,
Her piercing eyes,
He is envious of the ground that touches her feet;
The years achingly move forward and he only grows
More obsessed with the unobtainable Laura.
And there is my beloved Bob Dylan,
As his marriage to Sarah falls apart
He composes Blood On The Tracks
And then becomes God’s lonely man
Forever circling the globe on an endless tour
Trying to escape being Tangled Up In Blue.
When I’m alone lighting candles
And burning incense,
I fall into dreams about a tall girl,
The most beautiful I’ve ever seen,
But she’s entwined in arms that are not mine,
And I can only find solace
In the romantic and poetic defeats of the past.

Time Slips Away for Love
There is an awakening
That occurs in a life,
A perception of truth:
The glory of being
Or the sadness of existing,
The passion expressed
Or the passion suppressed.
Beautiful poet Petrarch
Wrote love poems for Laura
Long after her death
While some men will sleep
In the same bed with a woman
For thirty years for whom
They didn’t love to discover
Their life is nearly over.
Meet me along the river at dusk
And we’ll await the arrival
Of new stars.

An Almost Made Up Poem
I see you drinking at a fountain with tiny
blue hands, no, your hands are not tiny
they are small, and the fountain is in France
where you wrote me that last letter and
I answered and never heard from you again.
you used to write insane poems about
ANGELS AND GOD, all in upper case, and you
knew famous artists and most of them
were your lovers, and I wrote back, it all right,
go ahead, enter their lives, I not jealous
because we never met. we got close once in
New Orleans, one half block, but never met, never
touched. so you went with the famous and wrote
about the famous, and, of course, what you found out
is that the famous are worried about
their fame not the beautiful young girl in bed
with them, who gives them that, and then awakens
in the morning to write upper case poems about
ANGELS AND GOD. we know God is dead, they told
us, but listening to you I wasn sure. maybe
it was the upper case. you were one of the
best female poets and I told the publishers,
editors, her, print her, she mad but she
magic. there no lie in her fire. I loved you
like a man loves a woman he never touches, only
writes to, keeps little photographs of. I would have
loved you more if I had sat in a small room rolling a
cigarette and listened to you piss in the bathroom,
but that didn happen. your letters got sadder.
your lovers betrayed you. kid, I wrote back, all
lovers betray. it didn help. you said
you had a crying bench and it was by a bridge and
the bridge was over a river and you sat on the crying
bench every night and wept for the lovers who had
hurt and forgotten you. I wrote back but never
heard again. a friend wrote me of your suicide
3 or 4 months after it happened. if I had met you
I would probably have been unfair to you or you
to me. it was best like this.

Oh!
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?)
Could U be, could U be, yeah, yeah
(It's plain 2 see U're the reason that God made a girl)
I can see (Oh yes U are)
When the day turns into the last day of all time (All time)
I can say I hope that U are in these arms of mine (In these arms of mine)
When the night falls before that day I will cry (Cry, cry, cry...)
I will cry tears of joy cuz after U all one can do is die (Die, die)
All I wanna do is die
Could U be?
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?) Oh yeah
Could U be? (Could U be, could U be?)
(It's plain 2 see U're the reason that God made a girl)
(Plain 2 see) Yeah
U're the reason, oh yes U are (Oh yes U are)
How can I go through days when I can't go through hours?
(I don't think that I could go through another)
I can try but when I do I see U and I'm devoured, oh yes
(When I see U baby, I just, I just, I just...)
(Wait a minute)
Who'd allow a face (a face) 2 be soft as a flower? Ooh, so soft
I could bow (bow down) and feel proud in the light of this power
(Baby U got the power, baby U got the power)
Power, power, power, oh, U got the power
(Could U be)
Hey, could U be, could U be, now, yeah?
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?)
Could U be? {x4} (Could U be?) {x2}
It's plain 2 see, hey!
(U're the reason that God made a girl )
Girl, girl, girl... oh, girl (Girl, oh girl, girl, oh girl)
Stars can fall one by one from the sky
Baby, all I know about is U and I
All wrapped up in - in each others' thighs
Baby, baby, let me feel the beauty inside
Come here, woman! Ow!
Could U be (could U be) the most beautiful girl in the world?
So beautiful, beautiful
It's plain 2 see (Plain 2 see) U're the reason that God made a girl
Ow ow ow!
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?)
Baby, could U be the most beautiful girl in the world? (Oh yeah)
(It's plain 2 see U're the reason that God made a girl)
It's plain 2 see
All around the world, God made a girl
If the stars ever fell one by one from the sky
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?)
I know Mars could not be 2 far behind
(It's plain 2 see U're the reason that God made a girl)
(Beautiful)
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?) Be
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?)
U know that, so show that (Wait a minute)
(Could U be the most beautiful girl in the world?)
Before I break, baby, I just wanna let U know
That whatever I do, whoever I'm with, wherever I go
U're the only one that moves me
Through summer rain or winter snow
U're the one that gives me courage 2 open up (Beautiful, beautiful)
Any door, or floor everytime U smile at me, everytime and oh
When I get your kisses, all I'm doin' is wishin' for some mo' (Beautiful, beautiful)
I just wanna make money so I can give it all 2 U, honey
I'm thinking about buyin' a boat (Beautiful, beautiful)
So U and me can be swept away (On a deep blue sea in August)
If I'm with U, I don't care if I never see another day
In this life or the next
U're the beginning, middle and the end
Who put the X in Sex? U baby
Honey, I never wanna see U cry
U're 2 bad 4 hell, 2 good 2 let heaven raise ya and U're mine
I gotta break 4 now, but I'll be back so U be good and keep it warm 4 me
Cuz U're the reason that God made a girl
The most beautiful girl in the world

I tease Jami
I tease Jami
If you see her, please
Tell her this for me,
She is my Beatrice,
She steals my dreams
She is too beautyful for me,
But I think she's made for me.
.
I kiss Jami
Though it's only a dream
But to me it feels so real.
.
I tease Jami
She's always had my poems,
Though she's never liked them,
So I rewrote them.
.
I tease Jami
For Mr. Petty she had sweet kids
She's never liked distant dating,
But for me she did it.
.
I tease Jami
She's had her heart fixed on Petty,
But with Dante Alighieri, I stole it.
.
I tease Jami,
She wouldn't want to leave America
But for me,
She chosed Africa.
.
I tease Jami
I made her fell for me,
Though she never cried infront of me,
But Cupid's never stupid,
Together with Aphrodite we
Made another Beatrice for Benjamin.
.
I tease Jami
She's always had my poetry
Like Beatrice in Dante's comedy
And for sake of Benjamin's enemies
Let them burn in Hell for me.
.
I tease Jami
She's too pretty for my liking,
Sophistication is an understatement
Not common with Nigeria's government,
Even a goddess from Greek mythology
Is an understatement
And Aphrodite herself cannot compare.
.
I tease Jami
I wish tomorrow she will marry me
But for Becky's sake, she's leaving me,
.
Yet I tease Jami
I've seen beauties that lies on the inside,
But yours Jami, I found on the outside.
.
Once again I tease Jami
And she's alway too busy for me,
So I left her for Naomi,
But later I found out Naomi
Is just another Becky
So back I came running
To my sweet Jami.
.
I tease Jami.
If you see her, please tell her this for me
That this poem is not finished.

Secrets
The silent tears of a woman make a warrior cry.
But little did the warrior know that the woman was hiding something.
Something bigger then he could ever imagine it would be.
She wanted to tell him, but she could never find the words to say.
So she hid it under looser clothes.
One day she decided to tell him, but it was to late for he had gone off to battle.
When he came home, he found his love and she told him they had a beautiful baby girl.
At first he didn't believe her until she put the baby girl in his arms.
Wen he saw the beautiful baby girl he cried and promised her he will never leave her.
Now that's the last they heard from them.
Rumors has it that they left Greece and went to Ireland.
Rumor also has it they're expecting a baby boy.
Another rumor is they getting married on the 14th.

Because We Are In Love
Children
It was more fun to be children
We just took life as it happened
Run thru the days
Don't look behind
Over wink of an eye and it's over
What a surprise to discover
We were people ourselves
What kind of people did we want to be
No answer ever came to me
It didn't sleep at all last night
Mom, I've come to you like yesterday
About today
Mom, I'm afraid
Hon, come and sit by my side
Listen to me
Words come so hard
But what my heart says
I will give you
Because you are in love
Your eyes begin to open
As if you had awaken from a sleep
Because you are in love
You use imagination
And lose your concentration
When someone drops his name
You're back in his arms as always
Your day-dreams work out that way
It's all just a trick you mind plays
The more love grows
The more it says the same
(Same little girl who's frightened)
But I love him so
(Same little girl who's sure)
That she loves him so
(Sees with a woman's vision knows what a woman knows)
Because we are in love
We reach for our tomorrows
And know we won't be lonely
In laughter and in sorrows
Where love abides
There is the place we'll keep our love forever
You and I
Because we are in love
When love abides
There is the place we'll keep our home forever
You and I
Beacuse we are in love

Jami Nduwimana Petty [With You Only I Have Had Perfect Communications]
How now can I forget so soon
How when we first met
Just two years ago
In the nook and thorns
Of my beloved Africa
And you, far away in America
I was bathing in hell and fire
And the other angels watching
And singing hymns of praises
To the almighty in highest
Praise be to religion
Mohammed and Jesus Christ.
Who invent hell, fire and heaven,
But of cause the camel
Can never pass through the
Needles eyes at the gate
And so certain was my fate
And they all knew how bland a sinner I was
That they needed no Minos
To show me my place in hell.
Purgatory will be too mild for me.
Dante, Beatrice, Homer and Milton
Who has grown a new set of eyes
And can now see as clearly
As a fish under water,
They all passed me by
And wouldn't even say hi,
For I had been a great
Disgrace to the race
Of poets that has ever graced
The face of this searth.
And Nietzsche too, I met in inferno
Shouting in my brains 'God is dead'
But of cause Nietzsche is dead
And Age will certainly die
But before then, let us not confound
Ourselves with such ideas
As foolish as religion.
Those that brought it up
Had only wished to confuse us.
But I must say this here and now
About Hell, well, Heaven,
I don't understand.
But you must say this to my mother
Who was made by my father
Tell them their children are dieing
In thousands;
Tell the we are burning
In Hell and fire
Will they condemn us to another?
And please say this to Jami too
I love you like no other,
For I was dead and gone in oblivion
And just when I thought all hope lost,
You came and dragged me through
The gates of Hell, to life
You gave me a song
A new song,
Though I can no longer sing now,
But you did not only give me a song
You also gave me a love, your love
You gave me kisses, and your lovely kids
I'll never forget that
My dear Jami
I want you to know one thing;
This poem this poem is not finished.

My Beautiful Girl
Beautiful girl.
Beautiful brown eyes that are like a pond fill with holly water that reflects the blessings from the sun, beautiful girl don’t be so sad and wipe those tears from your beautiful eyes because I’ll be with you tonight.
Let me brush you hair meanwhile you are falling asleep ready to fly into your dreams.
There! I open the doors of the world for you but be careful with the evil that fulfill this lonely empty world.
Don’t look back because you angels will be by your side every day and every night of your beautiful life.
Beautiful girl, beautiful flower that god took from his holy garden to light my life that was so dark and now we can live together forever and ever.
To My daughter.

The Ballad of the Rose Trilogy
1st Ballad
A SUMMER'S NIGHT
I will never forget that summer
that summer I fall in love for the first time
it happened after my college graduation
i decided to take a vacation in a mountain
to my aunt's house where i was born.
The first time I saw her, it was in the church
she's so beautiful like an actress I admire
i never stop to glace at her every moment
my heart never stop to beat fast
after that day that i never thought
That I would see her for the second time
in the barangay where i live
in store, where i bought something
as i glance at her, she's mysterious
like Mona Lisa, so i never let her away
Ask her name, her name is Irma
I invite her to dance tonight
a dance to the barangay's fiesta
at first she refuse but i convince her
she agree then she smile at me.
In the eve of the fiesta, the moon is full
I grab her hands, she follow me
i never thought she will dance with grace
as we dance she talk to me,
she no longer mysterious to me
As the dance ends, under moon's light
we went to a solitary place
I never thought this would happen
everything happens so past
we kiss then lay down in a grass
As I enter inside of her, she smile,
the great pain I feel, she stand,
the blood flows, I lose my p***s
it fall in front of me as she opens hers
she look at me and she said,
' Your an idiot, you deserve this
by the way, everything I said to you is lie
i don't live here, i live in hell! '
she laugh i saw here leave
i bathe in blood, i loose my consciousness.
As I wake up, I am in the hospital
I thought it's just a nightmare
but it's true, i have no p***s anymore
as I get better, they ask me, i lie to them
the truth is embarrassing so
It has been a years from now,
I never heard of her again
I am older, I never been married,
I will never ever forget that summer
that summer i fall with a rose with thrones!
2nd Ballad

Janna,
I just want to thank you!
Thank you being my best friend through all these years.
For being my wife, for loving me all these time.
My love, my heart beat is right...
You are my forevermore.
Remember that first time we meet?
We were young at that time.
How could i forget it was our high school days.
It was in the school canteen
You left your book and I run after you
I never knew the woman I am looking for
Is the most beautiful woman in the campus.
The woman every man could fall in love.
So we became friends and the right time comes,
I tell you the truth, we became lovers
And the day I proposed you...remember that day?
I gave you the sweet red rose,
And I said ' My beautiful Janna, will you marry me? '
I thought I get busted then you said 'Yes.'
I am the happiest man in the world.
My dearest wife, all these years
Though our marriage is not perfect,
You make me happy, you inspire me
Your the best mother to our children
I love you so much.
Janna, as I am writing this letter,
I could not stop to cry
The doctor told me I have Alzheimer's Disease
I know soon will never remember you anymore.
Please don't be sad my love, don't cry on me
Do you remember your favorite book?
I brought for you for the last time
I put it on beneath your cabinet
When you see it, please turn to page 80
Then you'll see the sweet red rose
A rose just like I gave you the day I proposed you
My dearest wife, I love you
One day I will no longer remember you
Please my love, do not sad
Embrace the book I gave you for the last time
And do always remember the rose.
I loved you now... I will love you forever!
Farewell my love... farewell...
Nael.

A Love at the End of the World
It is 3: 00 in the afternoon here in Embarcadero
I am still waiting for her come...
I miss her so much, it's been 4 years from now since then
while I am waiting for her, i wanna tell you a story
a story of my life when I was in college
I am lonely man living in a lonely world
Until the time I board to Daraga to focus to my study
I never know my life change forever
I remember one time I am alone up the rooftop
She come there crying, she's drunk
I try to talk to her she replied
Her name is Rose, she's one of my boardmate...
One of my classmate at school
the first time i saw though it's
my heat beats fast, it telling me she's the one...
we became friends until the 4th year
never dared to her the felling inside
until the before gradation I date her
we watched romantic movie and we went to Embarcade
I tell her the truth, she was surprise
she replied, ' If you could wait 4 years then we will be.
Maybe that year, all my dreams already fullfill.'
then I replied, 'I will wait for you. After 4 years here in this place...
At 4: 00 in the afternoon, promise me you would come'
She smile then said, 'Promise.'
It's 4: 15 in the afternoon, I am still waiting for her
now I am hearing someone calling behind my back
I turn around, i see it, i was surprise...
It's her... but she's different now...
she's very, very, very much fat
oh, i hope turn back the clock right now,
but still i am gonna propose to her right
i am already 50 years old... i dont wanna get extinct.

Where do you go, girl?
Where do you go, girl,
when you fall asleep?
for even when we've spent a passion's time,
you, all woman and all animal,
and then drift gently into sleep
and I to watch you drift -
you're straight away a girl again.
Do you dream a girlhood's dearest dreams?
or roam a woman's world?
What girlhood's safe, safe place
do you retreat to
in your private sleep?
Was it when the only man to love
was your beloved father,
still recovering from a wartime's hangover
with alcohol - and your so fierce, despairing help?
Where do you go in sleep?
while I now watch this unknown girl;
an upper lip that asks so innocently
to be kissed?
And lower lip that just so innocently
enjoys?
Where do you go, girl,
so far, so many years away from me?
Where do you go, girl?

The Price Of Dead Love
His marriage is over but he has no tears
For the woman he was married to for just over two years
Though he miss his baby daughter when he comes home from work at night
In his marriage she was his one source of delight.
She is with his ex wife her mother who lives with her new man
And for him in her life his ex has only one plan
That he pay his alimony to her on Friday of every week
They no longer have common ground on which to speak.
On their wedding day he thought 'twould be for life
He was so in love with his beautiful wife
But just after two years of marriage love between them is dead
That the ways of love can be fickle no truer words said.
That his ex wife has left him for another he finds that as okay
But he misses his baby daughter when he comes home from work every day
That life has it's ups and downs it's always been this way
And the price of dead love it can be high to pay.

What They Will Say
Some times, I wonder if I write for the future.
That may seem like a strange statement to make.
Forty-three years ago, I wrote a poem
that at the time no one wanted to know.
Now it is my best-loved poem
read by countless people around the world.
Thirty years ago, I wrote two poems
and each one won me an award,
but at the time I wrote them,
no one wanted to know.
All of which makes me wonder
if what I wrote in my yesteryears
that then none wanted to know.
Could they all be popular now?
Today I started collecting and retyping
short stories I wrote twenty years ago.
At the time, publishers and agents
didn’t want to know.
Now twenty year on
I am wondering what they will say.

My inspirational poets
Let me think of the Vietnamese literature
let me miss the poet named Ba Huyen Thanh Quan
Who is so lovely and so warm.
As her romantic love poems are so clever and
forever for thousand years.
Let me dream of Nguyen Du
in the romantic love story of Lady called Kieu
that is so fantastic love life
and the beautiful nature 's lovely way
still lives in his poems forever.
Let my soul sinks in their marvelous poems
that are so simple and so beautiful for thousand years
AS my childhood fills all of their poems
that let me stirs the emotion never forget.
To their beautiful poems are forever and always.

That Girl....
I see her walk down the halls everyday
The girl with the dirty blonde hair with black streaks
Her blonde hair cascading down her back like a golden waterfall
The innocent sparkle of those gorgeous pale green eyes
Her strawberry lips make her lovely words drift in my head
But the only thing I know is she's that girl......
Even though I have no idea who she is she's still beautiful
Oh I know who she is now.....shes me from 4 years ago
But to me she'll forever be that girl.....

The Poetry Groupies
Where are the poetry groupies
Those girls who’d give their hand for a poem
Who’d lay down for a verse so finely written
In the hope of some poetic dedication
If I write it, will they then come
To pay homage, adoration to my pen
Where are the girls who’d give their all for a poem
Those who are drawn to such a man
A romantic who writes to seduce
To sway the heads of each pretty girl
With poetic tales of a great love
How beautiful the object of all affection
What are all these poems and tales worth
If this question remains unanswered
Where are the poetry groupies
Who’d give their hand to a poem
And their all to a poet

Her Poem
'My baby girl, that was born and died on the same day'
'WITH wild torn heart I see them still,
Wee unused clothes and empty cot.
Though glad my love has missed the ill
That falls to woman's lot.
'No tangled paths for her to tread
Throughout the coming changeful years;
No desperate weird to dree and dread;
No bitter lonely tears!
'No woman's piercing crown of thorns
Will press my aching baby's brow;
No starless nights, no sunless morns,
Will ever greet her now.
'The clothes that I had wrought with care
Through weary hours for love's sweet sake
Are laid aside, and with them there
A heart that seemed to break.'

I Waited Outside The World Of Wonder
I waited inside the world of wonder
The poems were coming to me night and day-
I knew I had a vocation at last
So I gave myself into it-
Year after year
For years I wrote poems
They came in and out of me
Like breathing
And I found them wherever I looked and walked
And took them home and wrote them down
And they became my song and my me and my life and my joy
And oh what a wonder it was to be simply to be
Writing them down-
And now writing this one down after so many years
I too still sing and wonder why God has been so good to me
And given me so much I simply love.

Fantasy Of My Dreams
I am drousing
in my dream
the muses
are singing.
Uncle J.P;
in my sleep
that Agbor girl
still dances.
Over there,
the Sirens;
they are
humming,
and my ship,
I think
it is sinking.
.
Oh, Orpheus
where art
thy music?
Who else could
lure me from
the charm of
the Sirens
if not my
sweet Jami?
The girl that I see;
the fantasy
of my dreams.
.
Oh Tutuola
art thou sober?
together let us
visit the land
of the dead,
and capture death,
and put him
in his Hell,
I promise to be
your new tapstar,
I was also born
in a bush of ghosts.
May we reap from
what we had sown.
People really
don't kno life,
till they stare death
right in the eyes.
I want to live
the right life
so I can have my
place with Christ.
.
Biafra
thou art so starved,
who said battles
should be won
at the espense
of others sorrows,
but brothers;
we hope for a better
tomorrow.
My poems of love;
I dedicate to Africa;
And my love,
she's in America
.
I love you Jami,
when are you comming?
please bring my
heart for me.
The kisses
you gave me,
it's not to be
forgotten,
though it was
only a dream,
but to me it
felt to real.
Your sweet kids,
I think they love me
I wish I could be
their new daddy.
.
Dear Uncle Taban
you are also a Caliban
I wished you
where my father.
My father did it,
and yes, he
went to sleep.
My mother had
been a father,
a mother, all
put togerher.
.
Dante Alighieri
where art thy Beatrice?
Together lets find
another Jami
for Benjamin.
.
America
Thou art lucky
to have Obama.
Who said leaders
are always bad.
I wish he could
Come to Nigeria.
There are good people
in this land.
