Angel Soul
Yesterday I was dreaming
As I danced down your childhood street,
And now I still believe
I'll see you again where the afternoon sun settles
On an avenue of flowers.
One day, we all will slip
Into the oblivion of forgetfulness,
But I'll work relentlessly until then
To immortalize the sound of your voice
And the piercing blue of your Friday evening eyes.
I'm going to whisper prayers in the moonlight
And give thanks in the milky dawn
That I felt this love in an hour of hope
As the essence of your angel soul was watching over me.

Fragile Timetable
I whisper dawn prayers
To gaze upon your face
In the summer moonlight,
I weep with the birds
Dreaming of your eyes,
I Find treasure in your voice
And God in your heart
But lack of comfort
In the world
When the days are ceaseless
Absent your presence.
We all exist
On a fragile timetable
With the hour unknown
When we return to the universe
Where we began
In a spiritual realm.
I hope for a long night
Of reciting you poems
And singing songs;
Maybe that will happen,
But I fear I’ll never see you again.

Dark Angel, My Angel
(Humbly dedicated to my only angel, my cricket angel, my dark angel)
As I woke up from dreaming
I quickly stood up scared and crying
Suddenly, I heard a whisper inviting
T’was a strange voice I was seeking
I looked around my dark lonely room
I find nothing and still all alone
Night was about to end that dawn
Hopeless, Yes! That’s my home
Sun started to rise in the morning
Someone touched me with an invisible wing
Wrapped with his arms around my being
He was an angel, I was waiting!
Dark angel, my angel - you are amazing
Faith and love are just same things
For an angel like you, I received these blessings
I LOVE YOU my angel, you filled my soul with meaning
always,
(your butterfly angel)

An Angel In Hells Kitchen
An angel hovers over Ninth Avenue guiding us drunks home
Keeping us who are lonsome company so we dont feel alone
An angel glides down Tenth Avenue singing us a psalm
To all of us who are full of rage making sure we're calm
An angel watches over Forty Second as we all cross the street
Making sure we all cross safely and keeping us on our feet
An angel on Twelfth Avenue watching the boys on the docks
Keeping them warm and alert as they work as tough as rocks
They're these angels in Hells Kitchen as there are angels everywhere
Angels protecting me and you even when nobody cares

How And Why
It was mid afternoon and not a cloud in the sky
The wind started acting up
I couldn’t understand why.
Then the rain started coming down
Heavy as can be
But it was only raining upon me.
twenty feet all around, outside of that
Not a dropp to be found.
How is this possible?
Is it that I’m dreaming?
And in my dream, this is what I’m seeing?
I looked up and down the street
And the cars were all dry.
I looked up again and the sky was clear blue
I just stood there not knowing what to do.
I felt someone or some thing touch my shoulder
And I spun completely around
But there was no one to be found.
I looked around again and the rain
Was still coming down
Then I heard a voice, an unfamiliar sound.
I have heard you, when you was praying at night
That you asked to bless all children
When ever in sight.
The children are blessed every second
Of every day, but your prayers
Help them, as they go on their way.
So continue your prayers and
Get the message To all mankind:
They are killing the earth
And there’s no reason why.

Awaiting An Angel (In Tangibly Beautiful Form)
Her voice; the sound an Angel would make, we'd suppose-
Where words are not merely uttered, but an ariose
Amoret without end-when she speaks, she sings;
She is an Angel surely, but we cannot see her wings.
Her eyes; what could one say about these Angel eyes:
The very vessel through which she may mesmerize
Each and all! ? No matter of resistance will ever suffice-
All shall succumb to the allure of her Empyrean entice.
She is as the ethereal wind, here for a time, then gone-
But not she-she is still here with you, as resplendent reverie,
Whether awake or asleep-at noon, or even when dawn
Breaks upon a brand new day; you are never alone-every
Aspect of her essence remains, as she is the mate for your soul;
All you lack is her-in tangibly beautiful form, to finally feel whole!

Lover Of My Soul
When I see the winter turning into spring
Oh, it speaks to this heart of mine
More than anything
Underneath a blanket of snow, cold and white
Something is stirring in the still of the night
And then the sun comes up, slowly with the dawn
Oh, this is the kind of feeling
That I hang my hope upon
There is love and beauty in all that I see
And no one, nobody, is explaining You to me
And maybe my eyes can't see
But You are surrounding me
Here in the wind and rain
The things that I know
Tender and sweet, and strong as my need
I know the voice, I know the touch
Lover of my soul
And when the evening comes, and sunlight fades to red
And time and time and time again
I whisper in my head
'Give me strength, give me faith', to fully believe
That the Maker of this whole, wide world
Is a Father to me
And maybe my eyes can't see
But You are surrounding me
Here in the wind and rain
The things that I know
Tender and sweet, and strong as my need
I know the voice, I know the touch
Lover of my soul
I need the voice, I need the touch
And maybe my eyes can't see
But You are surrounding me
Here in the wind and rain
The things that I know so well
Tender and sweet, and strong as my need
I know the voice, I know the touch
Lover of my soul
I know the voice, I know the touch
Lover of my soul
Talkin' to me and the things I know
Oh, You're the lover of my soul
Talkin' to me and the things I know
You are the lover of my soul
Talkin' to me and the things I know
You are the lover of my soul
In the wind, and the rain, and the snow...
You are the lover of my soul

A Man & A Woman
And the band began to play, without a song theyd lose their way
A song of love and custom dreams, a song of yesterday
When they danced, when they danced, her skirts were lifted high
She felt the music in his arms, the danger in his eyes
And a woman said no, and a man said but I love you so
And a woman moved closer, and a man said take my love into your heart
I must have you here by my side
It happened all too fast, they came to love and they came to last
No-one remembers now who lied, true love is made of glass
And a woman said change, and a man said as soon as I can
And a woman said open up, and a man said
Your ways right, youre my love, I wont be holdin you down
In the evening of their lives, no regrets and clear blue skies
They meet again in old new york, he tells her one sweet lie
And they danced and they danced, and a man said I love you so
And a woman moved closer, and a man said take my love into your heart
I must have you here by my side

Essence of a Woman
Such an excruciating desire
To live in her eyes like dream
And to have devotion to the way
Her necklace caresses her skin,
It was destiny that we met!
I immoderately drink in the starlight
And whisper poems and prayers
To promenading ghost lovers
On a summer avenue of flowers,
I live with a poet’s heart and wonder
Where is she tonight
And will we ever meet again?
Life is without meaning
And the hereafter purposeless
If you fail to be drunk
On the essence of a woman.

Prayer of Flowers
Behind the flowers an angel sings
Every hour showers what life brings
Be patient my friends and grow
Love always shows the way home
Earth kisses flowers of sky blue
Joy is a gift in the soul of the true
Bring your smiles of gentle hope
May all your heart be known
May all your dreams like flowers grow

In the Midnight Hour
When we meet
in the midnight hour
country girl
I will bring you night flowers
coloured like your eyes
in the moonlight
in the midnight
hour
I remember
Your cold hand
held for a moment among strangers
held for a moment among dripping trees
in the midnight hour
I remember
Your eyes coloured like the autumn landscape
walking down muddy lanes
watching sheep eating yellow roses
walking in city squares in winter rain
kissing in darkened hallways
walking in empty suburban streets
saying goodnight in deserted alleyways
in the midnight hour
Andy Williams singing `We'll keep a Welcome in the
Hillsides' for us
When I meet you at the station
The Beatles singing `We Can Work it Out' with James
Ensor at the harmonium
Rita Hayworth in a nightclub singing `Arcade Mia'
I will send you armadas
of love vast argosies of flowers
in the midnight hour
country girl
when we meet
in the moonlight
midnight
hour
country girl
I will bring you
yellow
white
eyes
bright
moon
light
mid
night
flowers
in the midnight hour.

Back Into My Life
Its another night out on the avenue
Looking for something, something that you knew
And youre wondering where she is
Now theres now theres no more rendezvous
*youre left out here on this cold stark street
With the sound of lovers as they tango and meet
Their sweet surrender with a promise and a kiss
Wheres that girl, the one you miss
Those ooh la la la girls in their skirts they go rushing by
They look around and give you that come on
With their dreamy dreamy eyes
Then you never stop to count your mistakes
That one blind moment with no give and take
Is lost in every strangers face you see
If theres a loser that losers me
** please put a little love back into my life
Wont you please put a little love back into my life
Every nights another night you keep looking back
Trying to fill the spaces hours and the minutes and the missing gaps
* repeat
** repeat
[instrumental]
Every shadows like a ghost that comes and haunts you
Angel of the night plays her tricks today its true
With every step, every step you see her slip away
Not just today
Its another night out on the avenue
Looking for something, something that you knew
* repeat
** repeat and fade

One Angel
One angel, its wings spread out
colliding with the speed of sound,
One angel, that shone brighter
than the moon cratered by eternal night,
One angel, with beauty that made all the,
flowers shed there pedals out of jealously,
One angel, it's hands soft and warming
like the embrace of the suns nova ray's,
One angel, it's voice echo's through your mind
hitting every sense of safety into bloom,
One angel, with eyes that ate out
the vision of anything else but them in your sight,
One angel, it's touch like that of a dimming
candle penetrating your skin with warmth and delight,
One angel, that breathes everything
into you so you can stay alive,
One angel, that holds onto your soul
in the treasure box called her own,
One angel, is all you need
to have a eternal paradise in your soul,
One angel, you only see once in life,
One angel, that's yours to own,
One angel, made for the souls needed to be sown

I will be your Sky
I will be your sky
I will hold your day and let the sun kiss your cheeks and blonde hair
I will hold your night and let the moon lighten up your darkest hour
I will hold the star and make you dreaming and wishing as if there were no end
And let you hope for more days and nights
I will be your sky
Because Love could find no reason why I love you
I will be blue to let you see that my love is as deep as the ocean
If you search the length and depth of my feelings for you
Is like a vast of a blanket spread in the heavens until the night pulls it
And uncovered how my sincere intentions is sweeter the moonlight sparkles in your eyes
And those stars are the music that hums me a good eve of love.
I will be your sky
Even if it's day and night
I will give you the twilight and the burning sky
I will show you the rainbow when I pour rain
And even If I cause you to cry
It will end soon and let you see the sunshine
I will be your sky.
When you wake up, you will see me.
And when you sleep, I will never stop watching your face.

Angel Of Mercy
Well theres a peter pan moon shepards delight
I got to drag in at noon and won the fight
I want my reward in heaven tonight
Just like you promised
Angel of mercy youll come to no harm
Angel of mercy theres no need for alarm
The knight in his armor wants a night in your arms
You know hes honest
Angel of mercy angel delight
Give me my reward in heaven tonight
And if I give up my sword wont you give me the right sweet angel
Well now its too late for talking we can talk later on
Let the saxophone play us until the chorus of dawn
All I need is a little oblivion
You dont need protection
Here comes the moonlight down on your bed
Angel of mercy let your heart rule your head
I dont want your money I want you instead
Dont need rejection
Angel of mercy angel delight
Give me my reward in heaven tonight
And if I give up my sword wont you give me the right
Angel of mercy give me heaven tonight
Well if you cross your heart and spit
And swear upon the grave of your mother
You got to get in the hit
Tell me that Im your all night lover
Angel of mercy angel delight
Give me my reward in heaven tonight
And if I give up my sword wont you give me the right
Angel of mercy give me heaven tonight
Angel of mercy angel delight
Give me my reward in heaven tonight
And if I give up my sword wont you give me the right
Angel of mercy give me heaven tonight

Ancient Highway
Theres a small cafe on the outskirts of town
Ill be there when the sun goes down
Where the roadside bends
And it twists and turns
Every new generation
And Ill be praying to my higher self
Dont let me down, keep my feet on the ground
Theres a roadside jam playin on the edge of town
In a town called paradise near the ancient highway
When the train whistle blows
All the sadness that hank williams knows
And the river flows
Call them pagan streams and it spins and turns
In a factory in a street called bread in east belfast
Where georgie knows best
What its like to be daniel in the lions den
Got so many friends only most of the time
When the grass is high and the rabbit runs
Though its talkin to you and i
And every new generation comes to pay
The dues of the organ grinder jam
And the grinders switch of the sacrifice
Everybody made to be rational with understanding
And Ill be praying to my higher self
Oh, dont let me down, keep my feet on the ground
What about all the people living in the nightmare hurt
That wont go away no matter how hard they try
Theyve got to pay time and time again, time and time again
Ill be praying to my higher self
And Ill be standin there, where the boats go by
When the sun is sinking way over the hill
On a friday evening when the sun goes down
On the outskirts of town, I wanna slip away
I wanna slip away, got to get away
And Ill be praying to my higher self
Dont let me down, keep my feet on the ground, dont let me down
Youll be cryin again, youll be cryin again, youll be cryin again
By the same wipe the teardrops from your eyes
Have to slip away in the evening when the sun goes down
Over the hill, with a sense of wonder
Everything gonna be right on a friday evening
All the cars go by all along down
The ancient highway
And Ill be praying, Ill be praying to my higher self
Dont let me down, keep my feet, keep my feet on the ground
Keep my feet on the ground
Travelling like a stranger in the night, all along the ancient highway
Got you in my sights, got you on my mind
Ill be praying in the evening when the sun goes down
Over the mountain, got to get you right in my sight
As the beams on the cars from the overpass
On the ancient highway shine like diamonds in the night
Like diamonds in the night
Ill be praying to my higher self, to my higher self
Dont let me down, dont let me down
And youll be standing there, while the boats go by
While the boats go by on a friday evening
Shining your light, shining your light on a friday evening
Got to slip away, got to slip away down that ancient highway
In a town called paradise, in a town, in a town
All along, all along that road, all along that road,
All along that road with the trancelike vision
Ill be praying to my higher self, dont let me down, dont let me down
Keep my feet on the ground, keep my feet on the ground,
Keep my feet on the ground
Friday evening got to slip away
Watching the view from a car from the overpass
And were driving down that ancient road
Shining like diamonds in the night, oh diamonds in the night
All along the ancient highway
Got you in my sight, got you in my mind
Got you in my arms and Im praying, and Im gonna pray
Im gonna pray, to my higher self, ah dont let me down
Dont let me down, give me the fire, ah give me the fire

Friday Night
Price/price
Well i was driving in my car
With fourteen women after me
Down fifth avenue
A friday night it just to be
She was standing on the corner
Thumbing a ride
I said,: hop in baby
Scoot closer by my side
Honey let's go riding you look so exciting
Where have you been hiding?
Chorus
Friday night, feeling right
Friday night, out of sight
Friday night, friday night
There's no telling what you'll find
Cruising on a friday night
She didn't say a word
She just kept those big blue eyes on me
I wondered what she could be thinkin'
As she put her little hand on my knee
I took another sip of malted brew
And then i looked in her eyes
And as i sank into her bbaby blues
I thought my oh my
There's no use in fighting you look so exciting
Where have you been hiding girl?
Chorus
Cruising on a friday night
Cruising on a friday night
Cruising on a friday night
Cruising on a friday night

Its Not The Spotlight
(gerry goffin, barry goldberg, 1973/1976)
If I ever feel the light again shining down on me,
I dont have to tell you what a welcome it will be.
I felt the light before but I let it slip away,
But I still keep on believing that itll come back some day.
Its not the spotlight, its not the camra light,
Its not the street lights of some old street of dreams.
It aint the moonlight, not even the sunlight,
But Ive seen it shining in your eyes and you know what I mean.
Some times I try to tell myself the light was never real,
Just a fantasy that used to be, the way I used to feel.
But you and I know better, even though its been so long,
If your memory really serves you well, youll never tell me no wrong.
Its not the spotlight, its not the camra light,
Its not the streetlights of some old street of dreams.
It aint the moonlight, not even the sunlight,
But Ive seen it shining in your eyes you know what I mean.
So if I ever feel the light again shining down on me,
I dont have to tell you what a welcome it would be.
I felt the light before but I let it slip away,
But I still keep on believing that itll come back some day.
Its not the spotlight, its not the camra light,
Its not the streetlights of some old street of dreams.
It aint the moonlight, not even the sunlight,
But Ive seen it shining in your eyes and you know what I mean.

Small Glimpses Of Holiness
i can remember being a kid,
and going to church on Sunday....
can remember the way the sunlight
danced through the stained glass
windows, the smell of the old
hymnals, the way the hard bench
hurt my back....
can remember singing the old hymns...
(sometimes they come to me
in my sleep....)
but i cant remember any particular sermon!
it's funny what we equate with God,
and holiness... and what we dont!
just as easy i can remember being alone
in the woods, watching sunlight pour
through the pines, listening to the gurgling
of the creek.... and the way the earth felt
beneath my bare feet.....
or the first time i ever made love
to a girl... in the front seat of an
old Rambler.... moonlight sifting through
the trees... and the barking of a dog.
or sleeping in a cave, on the run, and the
damp darkness like a womb enveloping
me... with only the sound of a nearby
waterfall piercing the stillness....
or standing by my mother's grave...
watching a part of myself go back
to the dust...
or the sound of my children's voices
when they just needed assurance....
small glimpses of holiness drifting
through an old man's mind... on the way
back home.

Dreamin'
Close your eyes and take a look at your life
Do you like what you see
My eyes are open but I feel like I'm blind, it's all returning to me
I wanna know, does a frozen river flow
Things you said fill my head lying in a cold and empty bed
I'm only dreaming
Between the darkness and the light
I'm only dreaming, oooh
Dreaming, can't tell the daylight from the night
I'm only dreaming, dreaming
I feel the sunlight shining down on my face
Not a cloud in my mind
I get my wake up but it never comes in time
My prayers are spoken and I wait to receive
'Cause there's a fine line between the truth and how we want it to be
I'm only dreaming
Between the darkness and the light
I'm only dreaming, oooh
Dreaming, can't tell the daylight from the night
I'm only dreaming, dreaming
I'm sailing like a ship on the sea
I don't care if I'm lost in the haze
I hear the angels singing something to me
Time's the enemy
That you never see
Won't you come slip away
I am only dreaming
I'm only dreaming
I am only dreaming
Yeah
I'm only dreaming
I am only dreaming
I'm only dreaming
Yeah
I am only dreaming
Dreaming

Late autumn
The yellow veldt, the skeleton chestnut trees
specs of orange-red aloes in the kopje
are near to the old white house
and in the late afternoon shades draw long lines
while I walk up to the house on the red-brown dirt road
and most of the flowers in the garden are stripped bare
but a few irises are flowering yellow,
purple and cream brown
and the sky is dull blue and the early evening cold
is already on the wind that is rustling everything
and after years I open the garden gate
are coming back to my childhood home
stripped from illusions,
and I am bare from the childhood innocence
but full of hope
and looking through a mature man’s eyes.
