Our Bog is Dood
Our Bog is dood, our Bog is dood,
They lisped in accents mild,
But when I asked them to explain
They grew a little wild.
How do you know your Bog is dood
My darling little child?
We know because we wish it so
That is enough, they cried,
And straight within each infant eye
Stood up the flame of pride,
And if you do not think it so
You shall be crucified.
Then tell me, darling little ones,
What's dood, suppose Bog is?
Just what we think, the answer came,
Just what we think it is.
They bowed their heads. Our Bog is ours
And we are wholly his.
But when they raised them up again
They had forgotten me
Each one upon each other glared
In pride and misery
For what was dood, and what their Bog
They never could agree.
Oh sweet it was to leave them then,
And sweeter not to see,
And sweetest of all to walk alone
Beside the encroaching sea,
The sea that soon should drown them all,
That never yet drowned me.

Handschoenen
Er lag een dood
paar handschoenen
langs de straatrand
satijnig rood
geweven
bebladerd de weg.
Een dood paar handschoenen.
nou kom op wat naar,
hoe kan dat nou
gebeuren zeg?
Er zat geen leven
meer in,
gestorven ding,
de zin die was
er uit,
de rode draad
verloren, pech.
Nu ligt het daar
zo lang uitgestrekt
bedekt met blaer
bezield zo-even nog
maar nu dan
in de goot
beland en...
Een vleugje van haar
ziel die riep
tot mij en
zei: 'He jij daar,
wacht eens even! '
'Kun jij ons niet
een nieuw begin
en zin tot
leven geven? '
Ik nam het paar
op teder in mijn
handen
maar zag
'ze zijn te klein'
'ze passen er
niet in',
'he, wacht eens
even, ik heb toch Ook

Maymie's Story Of Red Riding Hood
W'y, one time wuz a little-weenty dirl,
An' she wuz named Red Riding Hood, 'cause her--
Her _Ma_ she maked a little red cloak fer her
'At turnt up over her head--An' it 'uz all
Ist one piece o' red cardinal 'at 's like
The drate-long stockin's the store-keepers has.--
O! it 'uz purtiest cloak in all the world
An' _all_ this town er anywheres they is!
An' so, one day, her Ma she put it on
Red Riding Hood, she did--one day, she did--
An' it 'uz _Sund'y_--'cause the little cloak
It 'uz too nice to wear ist _ever'_ day
An' _all_ the time!--An' so her Ma, she put
It on Red Riding Hood--an' telled her not
To dit no dirt on it ner dit it mussed
Ner nothin'! An'--an'--nen her Ma she dot
Her little basket out, 'at Old Kriss bringed
Her wunst--one time, he did. And nen she fill'
It full o' whole lots an' 'bundance o' good things t' eat
(Allus my Dran'ma _she_ says ''bundance,' too.)
An' so her Ma fill' little Red Riding Hood's
Nice basket all ist full o' dood things t' eat,
An' tell her take 'em to her old Dran'ma--
An' not to _spill_ 'em, neever--'cause ef she
'Ud stump her toe an' spill 'em, her Dran'ma
She'll haf to _punish_ her!
An' nen--An' so
Little Red Riding Hood she p'omised she
'Ud be all careful nen an' cross' her heart
'At she wont run an' spill 'em all fer six--
Five--ten--two-hundred-bushel-dollars-go ld!
An' nen she kiss her Ma doo'-bye an' went
A-skippin' off--away fur off frough the
Big woods, where her Dran'ma she live at.--No!--
She didn't do _a-skippin'_, like I said:--
She ist went _walkin'_--careful-like an' slow--
Ist like a little lady--walkin' 'long
As all polite an' nice--an' slow--an' straight--
An' turn her toes--ist like she's marchin' in
The Sund'y-School k-session!
An'--an'--so
She 'uz a-doin' along--an' doin' along--
On frough the drate big woods--'cause her Dran'ma
She live 'way, 'way fur off frough the big woods
From _her_ Ma's house. So when Red Riding Hood
She dit to do there, allus have most fun--
When she do frough the drate big woods, you know.--
'Cause she ain't feared a bit o' anything!
An' so she sees the little hoppty-birds
'At's in the trees, an' flyin' all around,
An' singin' dlad as ef their parunts said
They'll take 'em to the magic-lantern show!
An' she 'ud pull the purty flowers an' things
A-growin' round the stumps--An' she 'ud ketch
The purty butterflies, an' drasshoppers,
An' stick pins frough 'em--No!--I ist _said_ that!--
'Cause she's too dood an' kind an' 'bedient
To _hurt_ things thataway.--She'd _ketch_ 'em, though,
An' ist _play_ wiv 'em ist a little while,
An' nen she'd let 'em fly away, she would,
An' ist skip on adin to her Dran'ma's.
An' so, while she uz doin' 'long an' 'long,
First thing you know they 'uz a drate big old
Mean wicked Wolf jumped out 'at wanted t' eat
Her up, but _dassent_ to--'cause wite clos't there
They wuz a Man a-choppin' wood, an' you
Could _hear_ him.--So the old Wolf he 'uz _'feared_
Only to ist be _kind_ to her.--So he
Ist 'tended like he wuz dood friends to her
An' says 'Dood-morning, little Red Riding Hood!'--
All ist as kind!
An' nen Riding Hood
She say 'Dood-morning,' too--all kind an' nice--
Ist like her Ma she learn'--No!--mustn't say
'Learn,' cause '_Learn_' it's unproper.--So she say
It like her _Ma_ she '_teached_' her.--An'--so she
Ist says 'Dood-morning' to the Wolf--'cause she
Don't know ut-tall 'at he's a _wicked_ Wolf
An' want to eat her up!
Nen old Wolf smile
An' say, so kind: 'Where air you doin' at?'
Nen little Red Riding Hood she says: 'I'm doin'
To my Dran'ma's, 'cause my Ma say I might.'
Nen, when she tell him that, the old Wolf he
Ist turn an' light out frough the big thick woods,
Where she can't see him any more. An so
She think he's went to _his_ house--but he haint,--
He's went to her Dran'ma's, to be there first--
An' _ketch_ her, ef she don't watch mighty sharp
What she's about!
An' nen when the old Wolf
Dit to her Dran'ma's house, he's purty smart,--
An' so he 'tend-like _he's_ Red Riding Hood,
An' knock at th' door. An' Riding Hood's Dran'ma
She's sick in bed an' can't come to the door
An' open it. So th' old Wolf knock _two_ times.
An' nen Red Riding Hood's Dran'ma she says
'Who's there?' she says. An' old Wolf 'tends-like he's
Little Red Riding Hood, you know, an' make'
His voice soun' ist like hers, an' says: 'It's me,
Dran'ma--an' I'm Red Riding Hood an' I'm
Ist come to see you.'
Nen her old Dran'ma
She think it _is_ little Red Riding Hood,
An' so she say: 'Well, come in nen an' make
You'se'f at home,' she says, ''cause I'm down sick
In bed, and got the 'ralgia, so's I can't
Dit up an' let ye in.'
An' so th' old Wolf
Ist march' in nen an' shet the door adin,
An' _drowl_, he did, an' _splunge_ up on the bed
An' et up old Miz Riding Hood 'fore she
Could put her specs on an' see who it wuz.--
An' so she never knowed _who_ et her up!
An' nen the wicked Wolf he ist put on
Her nightcap, an' all covered up in bed--
Like he wuz _her_, you know.
Nen, purty soon
Here come along little Red Riding Hood,
An' _she_ knock' at the door. An' old Wolf 'tend
Like _he's_ her Dran'ma; an' he say, 'Who's there?'
Ist like her Dran'ma say, you know. An' so
Little Red Riding Hood she say 'It's _me_,
Dran'ma--an' I'm Red Riding Hood and I'm
Ist come to _see_ you.'
An' nen old Wolf nen
He cough an' say: 'Well, come in nen an' make
You'se'f at home,' he says, ''cause I'm down sick
In bed, an' got the 'ralgia, so's I can't
Dit up an' let ye in.'
An' so she think
It's her Dran'ma a-talkin'.--So she ist
Open' the door an' come in, an' set down
Her basket, an' taked off her things, an' bringed
A chair an' clumbed up on the bed, wite by
The old big Wolf she thinks is her Dran'ma.--
Only she thinks the old Wolf's dot whole lots
More bigger ears, an' lots more whiskers, too,
Than her Dran'ma; an' so Red Riding Hood
She's kindo' skeered a little. So she says
'Oh, Dran'ma, what _big eyes_ you dot!' An' nen
The old Wolf says: 'They're ist big thataway
'Cause I'm so dlad to see you!'
Nen she says,--
'Oh, Dran'ma, what a drate big nose you dot!'
Nen th' old Wolf says: 'It's ist big thataway
Ist 'cause I smell the dood things 'at you bringed
Me in the basket!'
An' nen Riding Hood
She say 'Oh-me-oh-_my_! Dran'ma! what big
White long sharp teeth you dot!'
Nen old Wolf says:
'Yes--an' they're thataway,' he says--an' drowled--
'They're thataway,' he says, 'to _eat_ you wiv!'
An' nen he ist _jump_' at her.--
But she _scream_'--
An' _scream_', she did--So's 'at the Man
'At wuz a-choppin' wood, you know,--_he_ hear,
An' come a-runnin' in there wiv his ax;
An', 'fore the old Wolf know' what he's about,
He split his old brains out an' killed him s'quick
It make' his head swim!--An' Red Riding Hood
She wuzn't hurt at all!
An' the big Man
He tooked her all safe home, he did, an' tell
Her Ma she's all right an' ain't hurt at all
An' old Wolf's dead an' killed--an' ever'thing!--
So her Ma wuz so tickled an' so proud,
She divved _him_ all the dood things t' eat they wuz
'At's in the basket, an' she tell him 'at
She's much oblige', an' say to 'call adin.'
An' story's honest _truth_--an' all _so_, too!

Niets te Kiezen
Niets te Kiezen
Niet verder dan dit,
niet verder dan dit lied,
verder dan dit lied niet.
Dit witte lied dat,
dat tegen de nacht
tegen de nacht aan zit.
Bleek van schemer
blauwsig zelfs,
pulserende rivieren.
Dichtgeklapte klieren,
steunende scharnieren
kreunend van de kou
dat allesomvattend
blind, dof en grauw.
Bedekt met mantelzorg
voor die nooit een
mantel droegen
er nooit om vroegen
of hebben gevraagd.
Wat een martelgang
zelfs na de dood
iets te verliezen,
niets meer te kiezen;
er wordt beschikt
zoals voorheen.

Vir Ernst
Niks sal ooit weer wees soos dit daardie somer was:
die water van die Spiegelgracht lê swart soos glas;
die brûe, boë, bome en lampe ry op ry
wieg lui-lui heen en weer as ’n bootjie daaroor gly;
en ’n vuurtoring, donker, teen die donker, lae kruin;

A Chantey of Labor's Lost
There on the quay sobbed Bones, A.B.,
And he took me by the hand.
Says he to me, 'I've quit the sea
An' I'm huntin' a berth on land.
‘Er doom ‘as come; an' the days o' rum,
Salt-‘orse an' tar is over;
For these is the days of the popinjays
An' the end of the deep-sea rover
Oh,
Them tough ole, rough ole, rollicking lads
The shell-back, deep-sea rover.
'They've finished with me,' says Bones, A.B.,
'For they've finished with seamanship.
What they're shippin' of late is a milliner's mate
With a housemaid's mop on the ‘ip.
But ask ‘im the rig of a barque or a brig,
Or the toons of the chanteys sung
By a buck he-male in the days of sail
When me an' me mates was young
Oh,
Them mad ole, bad ole, rollicking days
When mates an' the world was young.
'Before ‘e was born I'd rounded the Horn
Ten times in ships o' sail,
Close-reefed an' fast in the bellerin' blast
Of the mother-in-law of a gale.
Bare-decked I been, an' wrecked I been,
Mate-hazed, marooned, shanghai-ed.
But shiver me gob, I knoo me job
In the days when the seas was wide
Oh,
Them reckless, feckless, rollicking days
When faith and the seas was wide.
'So I'm leavin' the sea,' says Bones, A.B.,
'For the sea don't need me now.
An' I'm shapin' a course to valet a ‘orse
Or coddle a milkin' cow.
All that they asks of shipboard tasks
Is a dood of a doll's-eye weaver;
An' I'm missin' ‘em bad; them mates I ‘ad
So lovin' the sea they leave ‘er
Oh,
Them tearin', swearin', devil-may-carin',
Lovable lads wot leave ‘er.'

Het Gelag betalen
Men roept om Talenten
en zet in zakken hen
bij het grof vuil aan de straat,
is het te laat voor inhoud,
gaat het zoals van ouds'
weer meer om de centen.
De vadsige krenten
hebben geen geweten,
weigeren te zweten
de maskers passen hen haarfijn
bij gebrek aan aanschijn.
Op elk verhaal dat zij
verkondigen
bezondigen ze
de ware glans
aan ware kans
en storten geld
in 't gouden kalf
of trekken
het uit nieuwe melkkoeien
voor de nieuwe industrie
en de media illusie,
maar alstublieft 'geen ruzie'
ze gaan liever dood
zonder slag of stoot.
En ambtenaren trekken haren
uit en zelfs van kale kippen
pikken ze het dons rond anus stront
weg van menig kale kont,
het maakt ze toch niets uit,
doet ze toch geen fluit noch reet.
Het zijn de zelfkannibalen
want he, zeg nou eerlijk:
"Iemand moet toch nog
het Gelag van dit gedrag betalen! ? ".

Ain't Too Proud To Beg
HollandWhitfield
I know you wanna leave me
But I refuse to let you go
If I have to beg, plead for your sympathy
I don't mind 'cause you mean that much to me
Aint to proud to beg, sweet darling
Please don't leave me girl, don't you go
Aint to proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me girl, don't you go
Now I've heard a crying man is half a man
With no sense of pride
But if I have to cry to keep you
I don't mind weeping
If it'll keep you by my side
Aint to proud to beg, sweet darling
Please don't leave me girl, don't you go
(Don't you go away)
Aint to proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me girl, don't you go
Aint to proud to beg, sweet darling
Aint to proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me girl, don't you go
INSTRUMENTAL

If I have to sleep on your doorstep all night and day
Just to keep you from walking away
Let your friends laugh, even this I can stand
'Cause I wanna keep you any way I can
Aint to proud to beg, sweet darling

Aint to proud to plead, baby, baby
Please don't leave me girl, don't you go
Put yourself in my place
I only for a little while
Come on, try it, come on, try it
Come on, try it (try it, try it, try it)
Put yourself in my place
I only for a little while

Sweet Emotion
Seems every star is out tonight to light our love
So round the moon so full and bright so high above
But if you look real closely theres only me, theres only you
And when you hold me closely, yeah
And now the sky melts in the sea like they are one
Its hard to tell where one first starts and where ends one
Thats the way our love is
You part of me me part of you
Thats just what love is
Sweet you got the sweetest emotion, baby
Sweet, sweet emotion
Sweet you got the sweetest emotion
Sweeter than sweet
Sweeter than sweet
Sweeter than sweet
You took me from the surface to a deeper deep
Showing me that you
And you are life for me
Our love will last forever
Me loving you, you loving me
Well always be together oh
Sweet you got the sweetest emotion
Sweet, sweet emotion
Sweet, sweet emotion
Sweet you got the sweetest emotion
Sweeter than sweet
Sweeter than sweet
Sweeter than sweet
Sweet, you got the sweetest emotion
Sweet, you got the sweetest emotion
Listen baby
Listen to me
Sweeter than sweet
Sweeter than sweet
Sweeter than sweet
You got the sweet emotion, yeah
Listen to me

Is That The Way You Look?
(excuse me? excuse me, yes? )
Is that the way you look?
Is that the way you look?
Is that the way you look?
Is that really the way that you look now?
Oh darling, darling
Is that the way you look?
Is that really your eyes?
Is that really your hair?
Is that really the way you walk on by?
Are those the clothes you wear?
Oh darling, darling
Is that the way you look?
Woh baby, oh baby
Woh baby, baby, baby
I got the question for you
Woh baby, oh baby
Woh baby, baby, baby
Tell me now is it true?
Is that the way you look?
No, no I mean is that the way you really look?
Is that the way you look?
Is that the way you look?
Baby, maybe Im dreaming
But Ill be bound
Whoever wakes me up
Im going to knock him down
Oh darling, darling
Is that the way you look?
Well I rubbed my eyes
And I pinched my leg
And I asked my friend
And I shook my head
But baby, is that the way you look?

Little Darling (Lynott)

Little darling, gonna be a rock and roll star
Little darling, gonna play electric guitar
Little darling, I'd like to get to know you
Pleased to meet you, how do you do?

Little darling, gonna love you tonight
Little darling, gonna shake, shake, boogaloo
Little darling, can I rattle my bones and dance with you?
And later on there'll be some lovie dovin'
A little kissing
A little hugging
A little holding you
Little darling, what's your mama mama going to do?
Little darling, when she finds out I stayed out all night with you?

Don’t Go Away
The autumn leaves drift pass my window,
the summer has died away,
and the frost will soon be here,
as winter is coming back.
So darling don’t leave me,
darling don’t go away.
The mornings are getting cooler,
with each new passing day.
I feel a little lonelier,
since you’ve said
you are going away.
Oh darling don’t leave me,
darling don’t go away.
Our summer romance,
our sprinkling of new love,
mustn’t ever, ever fade away.
I loved you yesterday;
I love you today and tomorrow.
I love you though it is cold outside.
so darling don’t leave me,
darling don’t go away.

Siren Of Fire
Fire:
When the water turns to mist
And the flames are rising high
I'll appear to you my darling
To wipe the tears from your eyes
I'll dance around the fire pit
Running wild with the flames
But as soon as the fire is out
I'll leave you without so much as my name
Water:
When water extinguishes the flame
It will also extinguish me
I will leave you to yourself
To soak in memory
When the land is watered down
And you stand beside the sea
Look for the bonfires
For that is where you'll find me
Burned:
Don't play with fire dearest
You know you will be burned
Leave the flames to me my love
They remind me of how I've yearned
For the sensation of my fire
That keeps our passions hot
I'll stay with you until the tide comes in
But after, I cannot
Drowned:
They douse the flames with water
Putting out the light
I drown with the flames
That ensnared you all night
I cannot stay with you now
My flames have been drowned out
But remember whenever you need me
Fire will bring me about

The empty evenings are the most difficult (in answer to Mandi Engelbrecht)
The empty evenings are the most difficult
when alone I write poems,
when I sometimes listen to Classic Fm
while I have got nothing to do,
the two old people
go to bed when darkness comes
and we say our prayers,
at times they insist
that I watch a religious DVD with them
and they talk about the news
and newspaper reports
but much too soon the evening is past
and the cocker spaniel
looks at me with her dark eyes
while the Persian cat goes outside to hunt,
and I read poems of some English friends
one after the other.
I am still searching for a job
which circles out wider,
almost away from me
while I spent my spare time
on what I can find in the library
on poetry of some great poets,
to teach myself techniques, methods, style,
and to find ideas
and it's as if the wide world
waits upon my new poems
and sometimes I mow the lawn,
and help here and there in the garden,
see the flock of sparrows,
weavers and doves coming near,
and I dare poems to repair my country,
my world, to tell people
who can make a difference
about the things happening here
and my days and nights are empty without you
but our relationship went to hell
by your own choice
and I have got a new mistress
whose name is poetry
and she is a whimsical lover
who serves others much better
before she visits me at night,
to share my pain, my sorrow and memories
and most of the time I try to know her better,
to know the rhythm, the methods of her existence,
to find that which makes her great
and one after the other my days pass,
while I wonder when things are going to change,
while I try day after day to survive
and I know that I cannot hold on to the past
and I know
that I can write almost any kind of poem
and still at times I wonder
what is happening far away in your world?

Rita, darling rita, youre my treasure
Sweeter than the sweetest wine to me
You dont know just how much you give me pleasure
I measure eternally
Rita, rita, I love you
Rita, rita, I want you
Rita, rita, rita I love only you
Rita, rita, its you
Rita, darling rita, dont deceive me
My love for you has never been so strong
Rita, darling rita, please believe me
Dont leave me alone
Rita, rita, I need you

Your Lonely Heart
(written by natalie cole)
Here you are right by my side
Words cannot express how i feel
Being this close to you
Heaven seems much nearer in your eyes
I wish that i could touch your lonely heart
I can see your face and i start to trembling all inside
Don't know why but it's true
We're so close and yet so far away
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
Open up and let my light inside
I just wanna be your friend
Let's forget about the tears we've cried
Darling i just wanna love you
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
Open up and let my light inside
I just wanna be your friend
Let's forget about our foolish pride
Darling i just wanna love you
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
Hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo
Here we are together now
Wanting you but don't know how
Knowing i care for you
Even if we have to start all over again
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
Open up and let my light inside
I just wanna be your friend
Let's forget about the tears we've cried
Darling i just wanna love you
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
Open up and let my light inside
I just wanna be your friend
Let's forget about our foolish pride
Darling i just wanna love you
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
Open up and let my light inside
I just wanna be your friend
Let's forget about the tears we've cried
Darling i just wanna love you
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
(open up and let my light inside) oh----
(i just wanna be your friend) i just wanna be your friend
(let's forget about the tears we cried)
Ooh, hoo my darling i just wanna love you
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart
(open up and let my light inside) open up, let my light inside
(i just wanna be your friend) i just wanna be your friend
(let's forget about our foolish pride) ooh, hoo my darling i just wanna love you
Wish that i could touch your lonely heart...

The Humbling / Parable of 'Kentucky Lucky
There once was a man,
Come from Kentucky.
He was the luckiest
Of the lucky.
He was better,
He was best.
He claimed to be higher
Than all the rest.
His favorite pastime
Was revelling in everything
He thought he knew.
Little did he relize,
He was about to recieve his due.
Nothing could happen to him!
He was The Elite.
But as he walked along,
He met a beggar in the street.
Said the beggar,
'A shekel, for a worthy cause? '
But Pride strutted by,
Without a pause.
Pride was a long way off,
When suddenly,
He ground to a stop.
For there stood the beggar,
Draped with downy wings,
And clad in robes of pure white!
Said foolish Pride,
'You are an angel,
And yet you asked of me,
A shekel? '
Then the angel replied,
'For a shekel, I did ask.
Just one little shekel,
'Twas all.'
'But you think it too humble a task.'
'Forget it!
A shekel, I do not need.'
'My Lord and God provides me all.'
As the angel turned to take leave,
Pride soon began to greive.
'Wait! ' cried Pride,
'Don't leave! '
'Come! '
'Eat! '
'Look! '
'I give you my all! '
Said the angel,
'Had you known
Who I really was
When I was poor,
You would not have turned me
From your door.'
'But - But, I! '...
Tried to reason Pride.
'Excuses', said the angel,
'Will not do you well,
Nor shall it justify your sin.'
'Now! , Look not upon earthly things,
But store up for yourslf teasures in Heaven.
'You can do this by serving God,
And not just looking out for yourself,
But by concerning yourself in the interests
of others.'
'But, Pride,
One thing you should remember above all' -
'Is that pride comes, before a fall.'
