Elegy For An Enemy

(For G. H.)

Say, does that stupid earth
Where they have laid her,
Bind still her sullen mirth,
Mirth which betrayed her?
Do the lush grasses hold,
Greenly and glad,
That brittle-perfect gold
She alone had?

Smugly the common crew,
Over their knitting,
Mourn her - as butchers do
Sheep-throats they're slitting!
She was my enemy,
One of the best of them.
Would she come back to me,
God damn the rest of them!

Damn them, the flabby, fat,
Sleek little darlings!
We gave them tit for tat,
Snarlings for snarlings!
Squashy pomposities,
Shocked at our violence,
Let not one tactful hiss
Break her new silence!

Maids of antiquity,
Look well upon her;
Ice was her chastity,
Spotless her honor.
Neighbors, with breasts of snow,
Dames of much virtue,
How she could flame and glow!
Lord, how she hurt you!

She was a woman, and
Tender - at times!
(Delicate was her hand)
One of her crimes!
Hair that strayed elfinly,
Lips red as haws,
You, with the ready lie,
Was that the cause?

Rest you, my enemy,
Slain without fault,
Life smacks but tastelessly
Lacking your salt!
Stuck in a bog whence naught
May catapult me,
Come from the grave, long-sought,
Come and insult me!

WE knew that sugared stuff
Poisoned the other;
Rough as the wind is rough,
Sister and brother!
Breathing the ether clear
Others forlorn have found -
Oh, for that peace austere
She and her scorn have found!

For Sharon (my little sister and second mother)

You were always my little sister, whether you knew it or not,
Even though you thought differently, when you were just a tot-
Even way back then, you wanted to take care of me,
You put on the Big Sister act, it didn't bother me, you see-
But when I reflect on those early times, I find I am mistaken-
For those years you stood by me, for granted you were taken.
You married young in life, your roads were rough, like mine-
But now your days are treasured, like aged and ripe old wine.
You've found the one that loves you, that one with the special glow-
That very special mate...hold him tight and don't let go!
And here I'm writing verse to you, to give you thanks and blessing-
For the times that you took care of me, for the grooming and the dressing!
Thanks for the times you freely gave, thanks for all of the care-
That was sisterly love, that only a sister could share!

You were my little sister- I was the other brother -
And now, the secret's out - You were my second mother!

Unfortunate

Fold her hands upon her breast,
And let her sweetly sleep.
She has found a perfect rest,
Beneath her winding sheet.

Her weary limbs are now at rest,
And free from toil and pain;
Her weary soul from earth has left,
But in Heaven lives again.

Death has closed her mild blue eyes,
That once was full of mirth,
Her lovely form once full of life,
Will now return to earth.

Touch her gently, let her lie,
This forsaken girl forlorn;
Tears may fall from strangers' eyes,
O'er her silent form.

She was a poor erring girl,
A wanderer alone,
Friends she had none in this world,
Nor a place she could call home.

She's found a home bright and fair
In that world above,
Angels dwell together there,
In perfect peace and love,

Place her gently in her grave,
And let her sweetly sleep.
Judge her not; for he who gave
Her life, her soul will keep.

Rough Stuff

Folks are stuck,
And can't grow up...
To leave behind their colors.
Whites and blacks attack,
And all down the brown!
To be found...
All around!

What on Earth are we?
Why can't we share humanity?
And be what it is that God,
Wants us here to be!

The rough stuff is enough!
We all are living...
And times are tough.
Whatever it is dividing...
Has to crush this BS,
To snuff.
Before it chokes us,
Into a ball of puff.

Look at me.
I'm black
And I don't bite!
Look at you.
White...
And you're not always right!
Fighting all around the World.
To incite conflicts to hurl...
Both day.
And night to fright!

The rough stuff is enough!
We all are living...
And times are tough.
Whatever it is dividing...
Has to crush,
This stupid stuff!

Folks are stuck,
And can't grow up...
To leave behind their colors.
Whites and blacks attack,
And all down the brown!

To incite conflicts to hurl...

And night to fright!

The rough stuff is enough!
We all are living...
And times are tough.
Whatever it is dividing...
Has to crush,
This BS to snuff!

Before this Earth we call our home...
Rids us all to blow us up to dust!

God Damn Me

There isn't enough hot water to be in
There isn't enough salt lake to to lie in
There isn't enough sky to fly in
So softly
There isn't enough breath to breathe
Not for me

Oh God damn me
Oh God damn me

There isn't enough snow to see through
Snows too deep
There isn't enough fog to see through
Not through to me
There isn't enough gain to get from
Not from me

Oh God damn me
Oh God damn me

Nothing changes
Nothing we erase
Nothing to change
Nothing but me

Oh God damn me
Oh God damn me

Im Glad

Baby when I think about (about about),
The day that we first met (the day that we first met),
Wasnt looking for what I found,
But I found you,
And Im bound to,
Find happiness in being around you,
Im glad when Im making love to you,
Im glad for the way you make me feel,
I love it cause you seem to blow my mind..every-time,
Im glad when we walk you hold my hand,
Im glad that ya know how to be a man,
Im glad that you came into my life,
Im soo glad,
I dig the way that you get down (you get down for bout),
And you still know how to hold me (and you still know how to hold me),
A perfect blend, masculine (I think I know now)
I think Im in love, damn finally,
Im glad when Im making love to you,
Im glad for the way you make me feel,
I love it cause you seem to blow my mind..every-time,
Im glad when we walk you hold my hand,
Im glad that ya know how to be a man,
Im glad that you came into my life,
Im soo glad,
Im glad,
That you,
Turned out,
To be,
That certain someone special who makes this life worth living,
Im glad,
Your here,
Just loving me...
So say that you wont leave,
Cause since the day you came Ive been glad,
Im glad when Im making love to you,
Im glad for the way you make me feel,
I love it cause you seem to blow my mind..everytime,
Im glad when we walk you hold my hand,
Im glad that ya know how to be a man,
Im glad that you came into my life,
Im soo glad,

Snow White Transparent

“Mirror… Mirror…”

Snow White stops
Looks down at
Her hand
Perfectly pale
Unblemished
Young and
Innocent
But damned
So damned
The wicked
Woman knew
Smiled and knew

“This is what you want”

Hands her the
Apple, poisoned
And red
No one knew
That Snow White
Knew, knew
The Truth
No one
Suspects her
Not Snow White
Pure, perfect
Snow White

“Mirror… Mirror…”

A brush bristles
Through her hair
Snow White looks
At her reflection
In the Mirror
Her mirror
The Wicked
Woman’s mirror
Snow White’s
Image smiles
Sadly at her
No hope left

“On the wall…”

He comes in
Princely in
His ways
Snow White does
Not look at
Him, not at him
Oh no
She cannot
She resents him
It is not apples
That are poisoned
But lips

“Snow…? ”

Without words
She undresses
Revealing glorious
Pale body
His to touch
Snow White
Watches his hands
Lower and closes
Her eyes
This is not love
Love is not—
Love is

“Seven little men…”

She falls into the
Dark corners of
Her mind
Where poison
Still chokes her
And there is
Nothing but
Death and silence
Oh, for the silence
Snow White turns
To look at The Mirror
And asks:

“Who is fairest of them all? ”

To All The Dames

To all the dames
Wrapped in gold,
Silver fame
And fantasy, bold.

Write you not on paper,
Write you not walls
This moment be somber,
Upon the lads that call

Upon your pillars,
Languid or full of vim -
Oh the dames, your wine cellars
They fill these lads to the brim.

To all the dames, stiflingly poignant
Askew are the lads with their flimsy hands
Upon the curves of a dame so rampant
That even the gods sigh in disdain upon lands.

To all the dames who wage a war
To all the dames with lips ajar
And to all the dames who pledged with scars
This be a game of mad men, a swineherd too farce.

If I were to love
All the dames
I’d be a shabby dove
Bursting in flames.

If I could snare all the dames
And let them shatter in one of the games
Then I could bathe with the tepid hellfires
And sulk in the moments of an embellished ire.

I wish not to love all of you,
Only to tell all of you in the strangest hue
That when the heavens roared madly,
The heavens ebbed in a tangle of a woman’s melody.

This be sure, there is a flame
Never to be extinguished inside a woman’s caress.
This be sure, such fatal sadness in a picture frame
There is a mirth to be found not inside a woman’s dress.

A woman’s breath,
A woman’s breadth.
A woman’s idiosyncrasy
Over lacquer and musical fancy

A woman’s sigh
A woman’s bliss
Never a woman’s thigh
Or a woman’s hot kiss.

And so to all the dames
These are everything I know about the majesty
There are certain deaths in the journey and the travesty
All for a dame, all for a dame.

To all the dames,
Good night.

The Ballad Of The White Lady

SIR GEOFFREY met the white lady
Upon his marriage morn,
Her eyes were blue as cornflowers are,
Her hair was gold like corn.

Sir Geoffrey gave the white lady
A posy of roses seven,
'You are the fairest May,' said he,
'That ever strayed from Heaven.'

Sir Geoffrey by the white lady
Was lured away to shame,
For seven long years of prayers and tears
No tidings of him came.

Then she who should have been his bride
A mighty oath she swore,
'For seven long years I have wept and prayed,
Now I will pray no more.

'Since God and all the saints of Heaven
Bring not my lord to me,
I will go down myself to hell
And bring him back,' said she.

She crept to the white lady's bower,
The taper's flame was dim,
And there Sir Geoffrey lay asleep,
And the white witch sat by him.

Her arm was laid across his neck,
Her gold hair on his face,
And there was silence in the room
As in a burial-place.

And there were gems and carven cups,
And 'broidered bridal gear--
'Whose bridal is this?' the lady said,
'And what knight have ye here?'

'The good knight here ye know full well,
He was your lord, I trow,
But I have taken him from your side,
And I am his lady now.

'This seven year with right good cheer
We twain our bridal keep,
So take for your mate another knight
And let my dear lord sleep.'

Then up and spake Sir Geoffrey's bride,
'What bridal cheer is this?
I would think scorn to have the lips
Who could not have the kiss!

'I would think scorn to take the half
Who could not have the whole;
I would think scorn to steal the body
Who could not take the soul!

'For, though ye hold his body fast
This seven weary year,
His soul walks ever at my side
And whispers in my ear.

'I would think scorn to hold in sleep
What, if it waked, would flee,
So let his body join his soul
And both fare forth with me;

'For I have learned a spell more strong
Than yours that laid him low,
And I will speak it for his sake
Because I love him so!'

The white lady threw back her hair,
Her eyes began to shine--
'His soul is thine these seven years?--
To-night it shall be mine!

'I have been brave to hold him here
While seven long years befell,
Rather than let a bridal be
Whose seed should flower in hell.

'I have not looked into his eyes
Nor joined my lips to his,
For fear his soul should spring to flame
And shrivel at my kiss.

'I have been brave to watch his sleep
While the long hours come and go,
To hold the body without the soul,
Because I love him so.

'But since his soul this seven year
Has sat by thee,' she said,
'His body and soul to-night shall lie
Upon my golden bed.

'Thou hast no need to speak the spell
That thou hast learned,' said she,
'For I will wake him from his sleep
And take his soul from thee.'

She stooped above him where he lay,
She laid her lips on his;
He stirred, he spake: 'These seven long years
I have waited for thy kiss.

'My soul has hung upon thy lips
And trembled at thy breath,
Thou hast given me life in a cup to drink,
As God will give me death.

'Why didst thou fear to kill my soul
Which only lives for thee?
Thou hast put seven wasted years,
O love, 'twixt thee and me.'

Give and Free It Up On The Rough Stuff

When I was hard,
It wasn't enough.
The sensitive and warm nice guy,
I had to give with no hint of the tough stuff.

I was the one who supplied the tenderness,
With touches.
Supplied I did the sweet kisses too!
You want it tough and rough and ready,
Through the weekends.
And all week until we get through too!

Living With The Enemy

I gave you all that you wanted
and still you come back for more
You say that you're brokenhearted
but then you walk out the door
Maybe it is time for us to say goodbye
Where are the tears you never cried?
Hey baby what you got on your mind
are you looking for some sympathy?
I can tell you if it's a truth or a lie
'Cos it's just like living,
living with the enemy
You got me going in circles,
I'm slowly loosing my head
What did I do to deserve this,
you make me wish I was dead
Tell me I'm wrong and I'll be on my way
See you around another day
Hey baby what you doin' tonite?
Are you giving me the perfect dream
I'm so tired and I don't wanna fight
'Cos it's just like living,
living with the enemy, enemy
Living with the enemy, living with the enemy, enemy
Living with the enemy,enemy

Times Gettin Tougher Than Tough

A well moneys gettin cheaper
Price is gettin steeper
I found a little woman
But I just couldnt keep her
Times gettin tougher than tough
Times gettin rougher than rough
Well I make alot of money
I just keep spendin the stuff
Oh well pork chops on the market
Ask the butcher for a pound
I couldnt get no pork chop
When I laid my money down
Times gettin tougher than tough
Times gettin rougher than rough
Well I make alot of money
I just keep spendin the stuff
(instrumental)
Oh well the politicans say
Get the people on their feet
They wanna cut the price
And let the people eat
Times gettin tougher than tough
The times gettin rougher than rough
But I make alot of money
Just keep spendin the stuff
Well I cant afford to live
I guess Ill have to try
Undertakers got a union
And it cost too much to die
Times gettin tougher than tough
Well times gettin rougher than rough
Well I make alot of money
Just keep spendin the stuff

The Farewell To The Dead

Come near!-ere yet the dust
Soil the bright paleness of the settled brow,
Look on your brother, and embrace him now,
In still and solemn trust!
Come near!-once more let kindred lips be press'd
On his cold cheek; then bear him to his rest!

Look yet on this young face!
What shall the beauty, from amongst us gone,
Leave of its image, ev'n where most it shone,
Gladdening its hearth and race?

Dim grows the semblance on man's heart impress'd-
-Come near, and bear the beautiful to rest!

Ye weep, and it is well!
For tears befit earth's partings!-Yesterday
Song was upon the lips of this pale clay,
And sunshine seem'd to dwell
Where'er he mov'd-the welcome and the bless'd!
-Now gaze! and bear the silent unto rest!

Look yet on him, whose eye
Meets yours no more, in sadness or in mirth!
Was he not fair amidst the sons of earth,
The beings born to die?
-But not where death has power may love be bless'd--
Come near! and bear ye the belov'd to rest!

How may the mother's heart
Dwell on her son, and dare to hope again?
The spring's rich promise hath been given in vain,
The lovely must depart!
Is he not gone, our brightest and our best?
Come near! and bear the early-call'd to rest!

Look on him! is he laid
To slumber from the harvest or the chase?
-Too still and sad the smile upon his face,
Yet that, ev'n that, must fade!
Death holds not long unchang'd his fairest guest,-
Come near! and bear the mortal to his rest!

His voice of mirth hath ceas'd
Amidst the vineyards! there is left no place
For him whose dust receives your vain embrace,
At the gay bridal feast!
Earth must take earth to moulder on her breast;
Come near! weep o'er him! bear him to his rest!

Yet mourn ye not as they
Whose spirit's light is quench'd!-for him the past
Is seal'd. He may not fall, he may not cast
His birthright's hope away!
All is not here of our belov'd and bless'd-
-Leave ye the sleeper with his God to rest!

Womanhood

She must be honest, both in thought and deed,
Of generous impulse, and above all greed;
Not seeking praise, or place, or power, or pelf,
But life’s best blessings for her higher self,
Which means the best for all.
She must have faith,
To make good friends of Trouble, Pain, and Death,
And understand their message.
She should be
As redolent with tender sympathy
As a rose is with fragrance.
Cheerfulness
Should be her mantle, even though her dress
May be of Sorrow’s weaving.
On her face
A loyal nature leaves its seal of grace,
And chastity is in her atmosphere.
Not that chill chastity which seems austere
(Like untrod snow-peaks, lovely to behold
Till once attained – then barren, loveless, cold):
But the white flame that feeds upon the soul
And lights the pathway to a peaceful goal.
A sense of humour, and a touch of mirth,
To brighten up the shadowy spots of earth;
And pride that passes evil – choosing good.
All these unite in perfect womanhood.

Damn

You and I....

there you go again when ya
rub up my skin
i have to catch my breathe
I began to sweat
oh..

Lips
tracing down my neck
and its scaring me to death
I just learned to draw me to the clear
just to push me off
just to push me off the edge

Damn I hate the way you know me
and Damn
you kill when you hold me
Like I'm your world
like this wont hurt
like a favorite cursing every nerve
damn
I'm fightin and I'm losin it
damn you
your pullin and a pushin
I'm wrestlin with
I toss and twist
til finally I give in
damn...

I hate being addicted
only
you would have predicted
that I'd be told
I'd want

If It Was't Rape

Dark rewrite of New Edition's If It Isn't Love

He did't rape me
I tried to tell myself
But I can see it in my haunted, tortured eyes
I can no longer deny
I can't fool myself or anyone else
The truth is clear in the tears that I cry tonight cause

If it was't rape
Why do I feel this way?
Why are those brutal memories always ripping their way through my mind?
If it was't rape
Why does it feel so bad?
Make me feel so sick inside
If it was't rape

He told me that it was just a rough, really rough act of love
But something inside of me knows better

How does it feel?
To be quite honest
I can't even begin to describe this awful feelin'
That came after he was done with me last night
Somehow he got to me
I just wish I knew the reason why
Maybe, just maybe, it's all my fault
'Cause he saw me with another guy

Chorus

Maybe someday I'll be able to pay him back
Get him back for the damage he's inflicted
Someday, someway
Gonna have him begging on his knees, please
Girl, I made one hell of a big mistake
Oh yeah, I'll make him feel it
The pain, the shame, the heartbreak
All of it
Just like I felt it
'Cause
My God
I can't
I just can't ever forgive him
'Cause he did
He really did hurt me
Break me
Like no one else ever had before
Broke me

It took one night, one night of unforgetable violence
To shatter my soul into a billion million pieces
Before I'd ever realize
Before I'd ever understand just how cruel, damn cruel this world could be
Lost my innocence
Helped my heart to see that

Chorus

The Smile Of An Enemy

The smile of an enemy
makin me think it's the
end of me

Fearful to the core of heart
is that smile of an enemy
feels like I can't run
feels like I can't hide...
from that smile of an enemy

Is my life written in stone
by my enemy?
The smile of an enemy
has taken over me
and I can't do a damn thing
about it
or can I?

Who's hands are over
the smile of an enemy?
Who pulls the corners of
his mouth makin my enemy
smile at me?
I have to put my hands over
his mouth
My hands are now over his
mouth

He is not smiling at me now
He is smiling at my hands
over his mouth!
And he can't do a damn
Thing about it
I have taken away the smile
of my enemy
His smile that scares me so
are in my hands now

Lady (lady), you knock me on my knees and I cant stand up
You got the look in your eye and you smack my butt
Why are all american girls so rough?
Why do all american girls act so tough?
Why are all american girls so rough?
Darling, Im afraid to close my eyes when Im goin to bed
Im afraid youll crack the phone down over my head
Why are all american girls so rough?
Damn, that girl cant ever hurt you enough
Lady (lady), you knock me on my knees and I cant stand up
You got that look in your eye and you smack my butt
Why are all american girls so rough?
Why do all american girls act so tough?
Why are all american girls so rough?
That hole youre digging in my ribs
It aint no real wound
So baby take it easy
Lets try to be friends
Why are all american girls so rough?
Damn, that girl cant ever hurt you enough
Lady (lady), you knock me down on my knees and I cant stand up
You got the look in your eye, you smack my butt
Why are all american girls so rough?
Why do all american girls act so tough?
Why are all american girls so rough?
American girls
American girls
Why are all american girls so rough?
American girls
American girls
American girls
Why are all american girls so rough?
American girls
American girls
American girls
Why are all american girls so rough?
Why are all american girls so rough?

Peace Within

The wind is blowing gaily, the page is trying to turn.
My hair has it's own independent way and my heart is at PEACE.
My peace I give you, not as the world gives it (John 14: 27)
A peace that rests inside as though like Jesus sleeping peacefully on the wind tossed boat, secure in His Father's LOVE. (Mark 4: 38)
I move and Your peace moves WITH me.
Your sun calms the cold breeze on my face.
The shine in my heart - You LORD - brings perfect peace.

The mosques chatter restlessly, no peace is found within and none is taken out.
The politicians speak many platitudes but no peace lies within the words.
Peace is found externally and internally in YOUR WORD O LORD!
Refuge, rest, sanctuary in the knowledge of YOUR LOVE that resonates into our souls into eternity.
My soul finds rest in God alone (Psalm 62)

Those who believe in Jesus Christ carry PEACE, can calm troubled hearts, give light in their darkness, bring hunger to know that everlasting peace.
Only You O LORD can give us PEACE.
Only YOU!

Amen!

Sonnet: Life’s Ambitions

If Life's a ship at sea with rafts and sail;
Our ambitions, the crew who steer it through;
And chance comes as a Wind or mighty gale,
That gives us success or our waterloo.

How must our Captain, Mind order his crew?
'The ship could sink, So, jump aboard, some men',
Keep ready the life-boats for saving few;
The rest can pray to God for quick haven.

Control, we must our desires, in life,
Our ambitions, need not be successful;
Life's safety first is what we choose in strife,
On Doomsday, soul must not be still sinful.

We aim to do the best we can on earth,
But ultimately, we aim for God's Mirth.
