How Calming / Tel Aviv Park Bench Poem
HOW CALMING /TEL AVIV PARK BENCH POEM
How calming
The grass
The trees
The morning breeze
The single human souls
All around rushing to their destinations
Crowds.
I see across from me
A deep scarlet tree
Leaves bunched like grapevines.
The world is calm
I am calm
The world has its business
I go slowly to mine.
Happy days are here again.

Every Single Sound I Listen To; Patience.
Asphyxiated with filthy airs and warmth.
Not knowing and unable to recognize freshness no longer.
Every single day and night..
Smothered by pungent consisting filth and warmth.
Every single day and night.
Engulfed by the filthy filth surrounding my space between anxiety and worries.
Every single day and night.
Adding up to hopeless believing.
Beliefs in oneself to stay strong to survive.
Every single day and night.
Irony, irony, irony.
Nothing comes nothing goes.
Everything comes, nothing left.
Every single day and night, it attacks.
With such might i didnt possess which i wish i did.
Trying to calm my tears rather than my nerves.
Calming my tears and holding back my nerves.
Holding back my tears and calming my nerves.
Calming those tears and holding back my nerves.
Holding back my tears and calming my nerves down.
Deprived.distort.discontinoushit.
Eve ry single day and night.
Patience rooted deep in my head.
Rooted deep in my brain; patience.
Patience in this brain for this filth i breathe.
Patience in this brain excites this filth and triggers the angst.
Every single day and night.
Wisdom to enrich intelligence.
Wisdom to empower failure of being cheated.
Cheated over the matter of time.
Patience once again present for the time.
Every single day and night.
Distracted by comfort of souls.
Closely souls in my heart and in my eyes.
Converse vivaciously.
Souls that lingers almost 20 hours of my time.
Every single day and night.
Every single day and night.
Every single day of nights' day.
Patience.
Pays off.
Every single time.

The Sea Is Very Calm This Morning
the sea is very calm this morning
the talisay leaves are not disturbed by the breeze
my mama is sitting on a bench
combing her long hair
saying nothing
under a tree
beside our little nipa hut
facing the horizon
on the other side is a big house
whose iron gate is painted red
a big man comes out
rushing as though
he is chasing someone
holding a stick on his hand
shouting at the child
playing with my small brother
inside the yard
of our house
the child of that man is frightened
and runs as fast as he can
back to their house
his father catches him
beating his legs
with the stick on his
right hand
i can still hear the cry of that frightened child
from the very beating of his own papa
what a mess!
i could have told you once again about the peace
and the calm and the quiet of the sea on a morning like this
but it is not true anymore

I Am Calm In The Pain
I AM CALM IN THE PAIN
I am calm in the pain,
And calm in the rejection,
And calm through the insult,
And calm through the anger,
And calm calm calm,
Though I feel so deeply
How I have failed
I am calm
Very calm
So calm
Until suddenly
In the middle of the morning prayer
I begin to cry to God
Cry with a terrible crying
And then when the prayer done
Calm calm calm calm calm.

Tel Aviv
The afternoon, its one maybe two
Sipping away my last gold star, not so much to do
Dream away the sunny day until its time to leave
Ill just watch you pass on by
When Im on my own in tel aviv
With the blocks to one side
The beach on the other
And the trees and the leaves
On my own in tel aviv
And the trees and the leaves
On my own in tel aviv

Spring's Accomplishments
Spring brings with it a warm, gentle breeze
Along with the trees sprouting their baby soft leaves
Gently tapping the ground are the soft showers
Bringing around soft, springtime flowers
Now here they come, the butterflies and the bees
Attracted to the gardens and newly awakened trees
The trees emanate such a calming scent of sap
And the birds nestle down for a peaceful nap
As Easter approaches, the sunshine gets stronger
And as spring continues, the days get longer
The spring goes into a deep slumber
And who takes over then? It's summer!

Calm Is Who I Am Now
CALM IS WHO I AM NOW
Calm is who I am now
Calm and quiet-
I have done
What I could do-
The rest is repetition-
Slowly slowly
Time is taking me away-
How long I do not know-
How much pain I do not know-
Calm is who I am now -
Quiet quiet
Before the fears return again
And the anxiety over what I have not done-
Calm is who I am now
In these moments at this hour
Four in the morning
A small part of the long day to come.

I dread the calm
I dread the calm in the morning of a mourn without a sound
It is a calm that comes to foster a greater grief
It is a calm light of dusk before ever dew was falling from leaves
It is a calm sinking in calm pattering to the ground
I fear the calm and scudding winds in the high wold
And on the dews the drench the gorse
And all the silvery gossamer
Shaken into gilded gold
Is it calm and still in the dusky light over great plains
That sweeps late and swiftly in autumn bowers
Of secluded farms and solitary towers
To merge with the bounding and the saint
Is it calm on the vast sea under the spangled silver sleep
The waves that sway in colossus to lull themselves to rest
And the dead calm in the deepening breast
Which heaves with the heaving deep
Yet calm is the mute peace in the meadow’s air
The forest gloom with loom of leaves that redden to fall
And in my chest if calm can ever dwell at all
If any calm is there, it is the calm of despair

In Memoriam A. H. H.: 11. Calm is the morn without a sound
Calm is the morn without a sound,
Calm as to suit a calmer grief,
And only thro' the faded leaf
The chestnut pattering to the ground:
Calm and deep peace on this high wold,
And on these dews that drench the furze.
And all the silvery gossamers
That twinkle into green and gold:
Calm and still light on yon great plain
That sweeps with all its autumn bowers,
And crowded farms and lessening towers,
To mingle with the bounding main:
Calm and deep peace in this wide air,
These leaves that redden to the fall;
And in my heart, if calm at all,
If any calm, a calm despair:
Calm on the seas, and silver sleep,
And waves that sway themselves in rest,
And dead calm in that noble breast
Which heaves but with the heaving deep.

Memories On A Park Bench
He sat on a park bench
just to pass the time away
when he saw her there
from the corner of his eye.
She was older now,
but her beauty had not faded.
She turned in his direction
and he smiled at her.
At first, she looked at him strangely
until there was recognition.
She smiled back
and then joined him.
They sat there on the park bench
the sun smiling down on them
as the daffodils swayed in the breeze.
For both of them came a flood
of memories of when they were young
before the world spirited them away.
Both had walked down many roads,
had some hard knocks along the way.
Both recalled them now
the way old friends meeting do.
As they sat there
recalling memories from happier days.
All too soon they would be parting
and as they would go,
they would take with them
a little of each other
in the form of memories
that they acquired on a park bench.

A Poem of Night and Fall
I thank you for the moon at night
and also for the stars that shine
and basking in it heavenly light
I wish the universe were mine
A midnight breeze
tosses my hair
and blows the leaves
of hidden trees
into fall air
a silver light
shines on the grass
a rabbits flight
then safe at last
at home tonight
a silver silence
speaks its presence
to the world
and in the fading, evening light
the dew drifts down
behold, the night
We see the shadows running past
and in the corners of our minds
we count the summer days till last
and the beginning is falls time
the scarlet leaves are mine

You Are My Light Through The Dark!
You are my light through the dark of night,
That guides me to the light of day.
When my light fades from day,
You help me in the dark.
For awhile now my heart’s been in the dark,
But you came along and brought in the light.
It’s been shattered and lost,
Until you found the pieces and put them back together again.
Sometimes the dark is scary,
Other times it’s calming.
Sometimes the light is nice,
Other times it hurts.
When the dark is scary and comes creeping in,
You’re always there in more ways then one,
Keeping me calm.
When the dark is calming and I’m asleep,
I picture you there with me,
Holding me close.
When the light is nice,
You make me laugh,
Happy with joy.
When the light hurts me so,
You also feel the pain I feel,
But still help me to relax.
In many ways you’re my light through the dark.

Hold Me Over
Today is a good day and I'm holding on
Not once have I cried because you're gone
Looking over jade green waters in the pond
I see Canadian Geese making a lifelong bond
The sun casts beautiful shadows on the grass
Resting on the bench the time just slowly pass
A welcoming cool breeze traveling from the sea
And I'm dreaming of you and how things could be
I have met someone that is holding me over
Until I can breathe again and live without fever
A calming sensation that has crept in slowly
It's only temporarily and feels almost unholy
I look into blue eyes but see hazel mostly
Your image still strong in my mind and ghostly
There are so many things I could have done
But I missed my chance and it can't be undone
Barely holding me over is this new situation
While thinking of you I have no new motivation
Maybe one day you will be back and find me
And we can start over right here by the sea

A Calming Grace
Rushing by with one weary heart; this is how many have their start,
Every day starts a hectic pace, in a life in need of a calming Grace.
A Grace that sets your heart at rest, when the day is one long test.
Grace with a peace that is assured, sent to all who know The Lord.
As you course through this land, you can be secure in God’s hand.
And as you’re nestled in His palm, He fills your heart with His calm.
When God takes you into His hand, He will help you to understand,
Through The Spirit you will learn, that He takes care of all concern.
Only Jesus Christ within your heart, can give your pace a new start.
His calming presence is in our soul, as the hectic tides begin to roll.
And as we face the tides in this life, with all the waves of daily strife,
Jesus helps to slow a hectic pace, as you look upon His loving face.
Christ will help you live each day, in a truly new and victorious way.
By living each day as its own, and leaving all cares at God’s Throne.
Heeding those words of The Lord, as each day has enough in store.
The peace that’s missing in the world, in your heart will be unfurled.
As you live life one day at a time, Jesus fills you with peace sublime.
The peace of God will fill the day, as you walk down the narrow way.
Weary rushing on earth will cease, as He fills your heart with peace,
As you set all cares at His Throne, looking on to your Eternal Home.

How Many Times Have I Written The Morning As A Poem?
How many times have I written the morning as a poem?
This morning too is a poem-
How bright and beautiful
How filled with light
How flower- rich and spring scented
How quiet and calm
How new
How fresh the world beginning again
The morning is the poem today also
though I cannot know what will be
in the day to come.

Overcoming A Writer's Block
Stretch!
If you can't stand up,
stretch as many muscle groups
as possible while
staying seated.
Try tensing and
releasing various
muscle groups.
Starting from your toes,
tense up for perhaps
five to ten seconds
and then let go.
Relax and
then go on to
another muscle group.
Breathe deeply.
Close your eyes;
then,
fill your chest cavity
slowly by taking
four of five short deep breaths.
Hold each breath
until it hurts,
and then let it
out slowly.
Use a calming word
or mental image
to focus on while relaxing.
If you choose a word,
be careful not
to use an imperative.
Don't command
yourself to
'Calm down! '
or 'Relax! '

If There Is No Peace In Me
IF THERE IS NO PEACE IN ME
If there is no peace in me
If there is no calm
How dare I try
To write a poem?
Still by stopping and standing here now
The gentle breeze
The quiet greens and yellows of this park
Bring uneasy calm back to me.
And I write a few lines
By which I try
To justify
My problematic existence.

Lines Written in Kensington Gardens
In this lone, open glade I lie,
Screen'd by deep boughs on either hand;
And at its end, to stay the eye,
Those black-crown'd, red-boled pine-trees stand!
Birds here make song, each bird has his,
Across the girdling city's hum.
How green under the boughs it is!
How thick the tremulous sheep-cries come!
Sometimes a child will cross the glade
To take his nurse his broken toy;
Sometimes a thrush flit overhead
Deep in her unknown day's employ.
Here at my feet what wonders pass,
What endless, active life is here!
What blowing daisies, fragrant grass!
An air-stirr'd forest, fresh and clear.
Scarce fresher is the mountain-sod
Where the tired angler lies, stretch'd out,
And, eased of basket and of rod,
Counts his day's spoil, the spotted trout.
In the huge world, which roars hard by,
Be others happy if they can!
But in my helpless cradle I
Was breathed on by the rural Pan.
I, on men's impious uproar hurl'd,
Think often, as I hear them rave,
That peace has left the upper world
And now keeps only in the grave.
Yet here is peace for ever new!
When I who watch them am away,
Still all things in this glade go through
The changes of their quiet day.
Then to their happy rest they pass!
The flowers upclose, the birds are fed,
The night comes down upon the grass,
The child sleeps warmly in his bed.
Calm soul of all things! make it mine
To feel, amid the city's jar,
That there abides a peace of thine,
Man did not make, and cannot mar.
The will to neither strive nor cry,
The power to feel with others give!
Calm, calm me more! nor let me die
Before I have begun to live.

Does The Park Have A Poem Today?
DOES THE PARK HAVE A POEM TODAY?
Does the park have a poem today?
Purple Berebis, Pale yellow leaved Ligustrum
That Shimrit Ginnot (Of Blessed Memory) planted.
The sunlight on the morning road-
The fresh wind of autumn-
The bench upon which Rabbi Eliezer Yakov (Of Blessed Memory)
Used to sit,
And on which I sit now.
The Beauty of God’s world
On this the fourth of the Ten Days of Repentance 5770.
How cool the wind
How warm the sun
In this holy place now.

Are There Ever Too Many Poems?
ARE THERE EVER TOO MANY POEMS?
Are there ever too many poems?
Will the world fall down
If there is one small poem more?
Here we are, my poem and I-
Sitting on a park bench
In the morning sun
In Jerusalem.
What could be holier
For an old Yid
than that?
