Rudyard Kipling

The Instructor

(Non-commissioned Officers of the Line)

At times when under cover I 'ave said,
To keep my spirits up an' raise a laugh,
'Earin 'im pass so busy over-'ead--
Old Nickel-Neck, 'oo is n't on the Staff --
"There's one above is greater than us all"

Before 'im I 'ave seen my Colonel fall,
An 'watched 'im write my Captain's epitaph,
So that a long way off it could be read--
He 'as the knack o' makin' men feel small--
Old Whistle Tip, 'oo is n't on the Staff.

There is no sense in fleein'' (I 'ave fled),
Better go on an' do the belly-crawl,
An' 'ope' 'e '1l it some other man instead
Of you 'e seems to 'unt so speshual--
Fitzy van Spitz, 'oo is n't on the Staff.

An' thus in mem'ry's cinematograph,
Now that the show is over, I recall
The peevish voice an' 'oary mushroom 'ead
Of 'im we owned was greater than us all,
'Oo give instruction to the quick an' the dead--
The Shudderin'' Beggar--not upon the Staff!

The Higher Staff

The very stick of young spirits,
Is a famous staff of higher light.
The many joints and many tools
Have many reasons of magic.
Let magic sway its empty strength
Through this staff of distress, the distant one,
Any one has possession of this instrument
Of destruction.
The spirits erupt from enemies and coil
Into the shadows so well,
That answers fly when the staff is given to its owner.
The owner lost it this time when he dropped it from
Its heavy hotness and heat energy.
The very stick I call upon to kill
Is again in my control,
Now that the mage became a distant enemy.

Busy

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy
but the old woman needs help
to find her way home.

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy
but the dove is too slow
to fly out of the way.

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy
but the children crossing the street
are too many.

I am busy
you are busy
we are busy....

I am busy
you are busy
we are...
busy.

Drive time

Double nickel in the rear view mirror

Lane lines ahead of me converging fast

keep eyes peeled on the road at all times-

not the scenery as it goes past.

Double Nickel in the rear view mirror

Lane lines ahead of me converging fast

A.M radio my true companion

A bunch of ditto heads that make me laugh

Double Nickel in the rear view mirror

At or past my apogee

each exit sign goes by more quickly

There’s an exit up ahead for me.

Let There Be Light/ Spirits Dancing In The Flesh

Chorus:
Let there be light
Let there be joy
Let there be love
And understanding
Let there be peace
Throughout the land.
Verse:
Lets work together
In harmony
Lets build a better world
No suffering
And in times of darkness
Just reach out
cause there is a promise
It wont be denied
Repeat chorus six times
Narration:
This is truly paradise
Being here in this celestial garden
With all the ones you love
Where nothing dies or ever grows old
And to be bathed in light
That cast no shadow
Yes
This is the kingdom within
Still you know
Sometimes I miss seeing and feeling
The spirits dancing in the flesh
Spirits dancing in the flesh
Intro:
Cant you see them all around
Theyre all around us
Spirits, spirits dancing all around us
Chorus - chant:
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
Spirits
Dancing in the flesh, the spirits
All over, all over, all over

Morning

The light will never open sightless eyes,
It comes to those who willingly would see;
And every object,—hill, and stream, and skies,—
Rejoice within th' encircling line to be;
'Tis day,—the field is filled with busy hands,
The shop resounds with noisy workmen's din,
The traveller with his staff already stands
His yet unmeasured journey to begin;
The light breaks gently too within the breast,—
Yet there no eye awaits the crimson morn,
The forge and noisy anvil are at rest,
Nor men nor oxen tread the fields of corn,
Nor pilgrim lifts his staff,—it is no day
To those who find on earth their place to stay.

Cover Me

The times are tough now, just getting tougher
This old world is rough, its just getting rougher
Cover me, come on baby, cover me
Well Im looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me
Promise me baby you wont let them find us
Hold me in your arms, lets let our love blind us
Cover me, shut the door and cover me
Well Im looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me
Outsides the rain, the driving snow
I can hear the wild wind blowing
Turn out the light, bolt the door
I aint going out there no more
This whole world is out there just trying to score
Ive seen enough I dont want to see any more,
Cover me, come on and cover me
Im looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me
Looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me

Draw Me That Line

There's a fine line
between genius and
insanity.

You have erased that line

i need to draw that line again
between
you and me

do not laugh at me
i am not a genius
as they once
laughed
at Copernicus

i like you to laugh
at me
i have this acceptance
as i laugh
at myself more often

i like

In memory of a certain RSM

The band was already playing
a marching song
and officers, non-commissioned ranks
and troops spotless
in berets, browns and shining boots
marched and halted in perfect unison
on the parade ground.

With a flat hat like a chauffeur,
or maybe like the baggage man
at the hotel
with visor just above his eyes,
dressed in step outs

he drove the Mercedes Benz
through the gate
to the parking aria
next to the parade grounds
bringing it to a elegant halt,
jumped out and walked
right to the back door
bended double and opened it
to let a lady and younger woman out.

Then with pace stick
swinging to and fro
on he came like the leader
of the band
but in control
of the whole parade,
set over officers outranking him
waving the stick in his hand,
walking up and down
like a huge red faced clown.

Cry For Education

All of them are running after you.
i can't because i don't have money.
My parents cannot provide me with a penny.

I pass through schools you are there.
I pass by the library, you are there.
I pass by the officers, you are there.
Every where you are there.

I came across students gambling.
I ask myself if this is the place where mr and mrs parent send them to?

I walk up and down yet still no opportunity for me.
I try O I try I cry!
Some have what I want but miss use it.

Up To My Neck In You

Well Ive been up to my neck in trouble
Up to my neck in strife
Up to my neck in misery
For most of my life
Ive been a fool
And you know what a fool can do
Im telling you
You came along when I needed you
Now Im up, Im up to my neck in you
And Ive been up to my neck in pleasure
Up to my neck in pain
Ive been up to my neck on the railroad track
Waitin for the train
To cruise on through
Well baby my time is due
Oh its way overdue
You came along and you pulled me through
Now Im up, up to my neck in you
Well Ive been up to my neck in whiskey
Ive been up to my neck in wine
Ive been up to my neck in wishing
That this neck wasnt mine
I was a loser
You werent lost
Baby you were too good, too good to be true
What youve got no one else could do
Now Im up, Im up to my neck in you
Yeah you came along when I needed you
Oh Im up to my neck in you

How Many Times

How many times must I get up
Look out and see the same old view
How many times must I wear the same old things
And hear the same old things that I do, I do
How many times must I clean this face my face
And how many times must I shine my shoes, oh lord
How many times must I drink the same old drink
And dream the same old dreams that I do
Because i, I know one thing
There aint nothing that could ever ease the pain
But for your line and mine
I want that loving again
How many times must I pass your place. your place
And how many times must I follow you, you
How many times must I see the same old things
When all I should be seeing is you
Because i, I know one thing
There aint nothing that could ever ease the pain
But for your line and mine
I want that loving again, again

Mama Didn't Raise No Fool

The best of times, the worst of times,
the times you can't ignore.
Sometimes you bite the bullet
and flip flop on the floor.
They tell you where to go,
and they tell you what to do.
They set your face on fire
then stomp it out with their shoes.
I ain't no fool.
Mama didn't raise no fool.
The times I can't complain
are the times I do the most.
On a diet of black coffee
and prozac buttered toast.
These eunuchs in their prada
and Gucci flavored clothes.
Wouldn't know a fresh perspective
if it bit 'em up on the nose.
I ain't no fool.
Mama didn't raise no fool.
Don't do as they say,
just say as they do.
No flavor's quite so bitter
as the taste of one's own shoe.
I ain't no fool.
Mama didn't raise no fool.

Jutting

Jutting!
Like projectiles upward,
To reach.
These granite slabs.

Fading.
Many with diminished descriptions.
And many more standing,
With non-exisiting to read...
Once carefully etched,
Epitaphs.

Jutting upward in row upon row,
To lay surrounded by manicured grass.
Fenced within cemetery quietness,
As if to appease the dead...
In a foreverlasting sleep and unknown.

Bleached these slabs are from Sun,
And the rain that comes...
To wash away that which had been engraved,
On the headstones of those death has silenced.

And I walk along to wonder,
Who the many forgotten were.
Those whose ashes have long ago turn to dust.
Those who once lived.
Now below the ground...
Hushed!

Can their spirits see me pass?
Do they know I walk to wonder of their past?
Are they aware like I am...
That life is not to live to last?
They must.
Can their spirits see me pass,
And laugh to find my thoughts amusing?
Or have their spirits long gone,
To adapt and be freed from life's trappings?
Heartaches. Sorrows. Physical pain...
And having no cash.
I pass and 'feel' their spirits laughing.

Jutting!
Like projectiles upward,
To reach.
These granite slabs.

Fading.
Many with diminished descriptions.
And many more standing,
With non-exisiting to read...
Once carefully etched,
Epitaphs.

And here I am in the moment,
Living...
To witness this.
And to wonder.

I Laugh So Greenly

i laugh so greenly in tree spirits
to spring me the balloon man
and whistled for them afar
and almost beyond
as i jumped away and sank
in almost total wilderness
and tried to think but could not
as i saw the ant so busy
yet could not tell
as all ants hurried
to wheresoever they dwell

i waved not as my feet sank
deep in the soils of the river bank
to sand me a foot
and shoot
no blank
much further out
and about
than you could actually mouth
me out
as i laugh so greenly without

fear but flashed around no corner
as i sat by the rocks in honor
of the shepherd and the donor
of life,
to not a stone by the sun; a loner
like not born yet,
been long on order
though so unknown to you,
could not bother
to roar on feelings of the other
as i faded so gentle
into the night for another
laugh so greenly with my eyes further
yet not so sure how yet but rather

for i knew not a man without purpose
nor do i now without a cause
neither of mine i not suppose
to assume a run across the most
of my thoughts to force
and seduced my eyes without cause
as i laugh(ed) so greenly my resource

steadily waving my eyes goodbye
to wake the next light; sweet lullaby
set my soul and mood so high
and laugh(ed) a dry tear on my eye
without a why
as i laugh(ed) so greenly for a while

Life After Death

You spoke many times of life after death
and now you've taken your last breath.
You believed that when you pass away
your spirit exists in a different way.

In a ethereal place that lasts for eternity
with other spirits that used to be.
You travel that space on paths of air
and talk with thoughts that spirits share.

Gentle movements are how you touch
the spirits you once loved so much.
Friends will be met who have passed away
so you can share that eternal day.

Your past life now belongs to history
and you have joined the spiritual mystery.
You said you would try to communicate from there,
but your thoughts can't penetrate this planets air.

All I can do is wish you well and say goodbye,
and perhaps one day we'll again say hi.
Until then you'll be locked in my memory,
along with your life after death theory.
