You write for you.
To write: it offers self discovery.
Catharsis: it offers creative satisfaction.
Forget about if your work is accepted.
You enrich yourself; it is your credit.

Safe Haven
My ears hear thy words
My sails capture thy wind
My mind thou bewilders
My heart offers respite
My soul offers shelter
My spirit knows only truth

If the opponent offers keen play I don't object; but in such cases I get less satisfaction, even if I win, than from a game conducted according to all the rules of strategy with its ruthless logic.

Satisfaction
Sharing s[w]eep[s]takes s[t]ates each sense
As in a magic meeting meant
To imprint a permanent
Inner impression, stamp intense
Satisfaction vast, immense.
Futile and irrelevant.
Appears defense as discontent
Can’t flourish under false pretense,
Turns Life’s joke at its own expense
In catharsis heaven sent, -
Osmosis as emotions pent
Now outpour in wonderment...

Satisfaction
Souls share as sweetness sweeps each sense
At last in magic meeting meant
To permeate a permanent
Imprint in the mind, immense
Satisfaction, deep, intense.
Futile and irrelevant
Are all defenses. Discontent
Can’t flourish under false pretense,
Turns Life’s joke at its expense
In a catharsis heaven sent, -
Osmosis as emotions pent
Now overflow with wonderment...

2008: Is It Worth It?
*Tom J. Mariani - -a found poem on a Starbucks' cup
credit to Katy Croff
People often ask
if it is worth it
to work at sea
*(or to write poetry)
isolated from the world
far from loved ones,
seasick, and running on
three hours' sleep.
*(When you can't write
you watch the clock creep)
To lay eyes on something
never before seen by anyone,
to learn something new
about our planet,
*(Stacks of rejection slips.
Will one make it?)
for that one moment
of discovery -yes,
it is
all worth it.

The dissident does not operate in the realm of genuine power at all. He is not seeking power. He has no desire for office and does not gather votes. He does not attempt to charm the public, he offers nothing and promises nothing. He can offer, if anything, only his own skin — and he offers it solely because he has no other way of affirming the truth he stands for. His actions simply articulate his dignity as a citizen, regardless of the cost.

The greatest real thrill that life offers is to create, to construct, to develop something useful. Too often we fail to recognize and pay tribute to the creative spirit. It is that spirit that creates our jobs.

I have often noticed that a bribe has that effect - it changes a relation. The man who offers a bribe gives away a little of his own importance; the bribe once accepted, he becomes the inferior, like a man who has paid for a woman.

The Mayor Of The Town
at first he offers you a basket of bread
perhaps he knows that you are hungry not having eaten for a day
you touch one, tear it, and have yourself a fill
it is fine
you exchange ideas
laugh at matters which both of you think funny
he offers a drink and you take a glass
thinking that this guy must be sincere in helping you away from hunger and thirst
you sleep soundly the whole night
and the following morning he comes to you again
bringing some strings and you think this must be a way to
strengthen bonds
then he speaks about a puppet and you do not like it
and he burst into anger
that is the end of the political affair
you do not want to be that puppet on a string.

A writer
Out of what, does a writer write?
Out of hatred, out of denial,
Out of failure, out of perversion,
Out of insult or out of neglect.
Why does a writer write?
To vent his anger, anguish and agony.
To bend his feelings in catharsis.
From what does he write?
From borrowings, being inspired,
Or pouring old wine into a new bottle.
For what purpose does he write?
For an applause, to show his skills
And to earn a place and money.
Why at all must he write?
For an idler, what else can he do?
What lacks in one’s writing?
His concern for you lacks.
Your vow to pursue it lacks.
He writes and forgets
You read and forget.
When you are gone and when he is gone
The relevance to his writings is gone.
Bubbles are formed and burst.

Sunrise And Sunset Pleases
Everyday comes,
To give all opportunity...
And a chance to appreciate,
What that day offers and brings.
Perhaps it is with the ease of it,
That we take life for granted.
And the existence of this gift given,
Is rarely looked upon or accepted by many...
For its seriousness,
Quickly dismissed.
Until it is realized there is no permanence.
And a missing of those we shared our lives with,
Becomes reminisced,
With wishes to see them again.

The culture demands writers?
What for do you write?
For an applause.
What from do you write?
From borrowings.
Why should you write?
To get pleasure in catharsis.
Why do you chose writing>
Most suited to an idler.
Do you write to cure the society?
No.
Do you write to save the society?
No.
Then, why?
Writings to people
Are cosmetics to women.
The culture demands them

Appreciating the Pleasure of Receiving Less
Condemning the process,
Without having a hint to its content.
Or if it has potential to benefit.
Offers nothing to those accustomed,
To do what they've been told.
And that is to follow through,
With isolated beliefs of limitation.
A routine that keeps them on their knees.
Appreciating the pleasure of receiving less.
And identifying that with a kept unhappiness!
With a consciousness accepted,
Self serving and disrespected.
While expressing this as confessed.

Woman only accepts love.
Woman offers man her body
For the love expected of him.
Man offers woman his love
For the body expected of her.
He byes her flesh with his love.
She buys his love with her flesh.
The deal over, both find themselves
Wanting the gain contemplated.
