Old-age Homes

People keep orphanage for puppies.
People keep orphanage for lame dogs.
No one keep orphanage for old dogs,
Who won't live more to wag at them.

Old men are poorly attended.

Orphanage

the name says it all orphan age
they are orphans from birth
until they reach that age
that is how they got the name orphanage.

have you ever thought of the aches and pains
that they have gone through.
unlike me or you.

'we had parents' whether they were bad or good
we could not be misunderstood
but these children never had that chance
people would look at them and turn their glance.

they were also known as 'children of prey'
for the abuse would not go away.
they would be behind fences
in their ragged torn clothes
a disgusting sight to behold.

the urine stench would tickle your nose
as they held on the fence
in that sorrowful pose.

natted hair, dirty hands and faces.
torn shoes with no laces.
asking all who passed by
if they cared if they 'lived or died'.

people would hide their faces in shame
wondering if they could ever be the same.
for now these faces haunted them
wherever they would go.
and the love these kids would never know.

this is not an orphanage, but a house of horror
for these children there is no tomorrow.
they say the times have changed drastically
but that is something i do not see.

let's tear down these places
who steal childrens dreams
and let them live a life that's clean.

A Window Into The World

The crow flaps its dark wings up there,
hungryor death,
and the dark opened its mouth down there,
hungry for poverty.
Both are permanent visitors on 134th street,
the street of my childhood,
where I returned to after fifty years of straying.
Nothing has changed,
apart from the poverty
which became bigger and darker.
The orphanage is still in the same place
where I used to daydream of the outside world
for hours, days and months on an end I used to stand by the window,
shyly stealing smiles from other kids
who cheerfully jumped around their parents,
dreaming that someday I might hold a child by their hand,
and walk far away from the orphanage.
But that world,
the world I used to watch with so much desire
through the little hole of poverty,
became even colder, lonelier and darker than the orphanage to me.
Yes, Lord, I admit to this standing next to the old orphanage's window,
from my dear and sad sight of the world,
that I am coming home poorer and lonelier,
much sadder and poorer
than I was back in my childhood,
because back then I was rich with youth and hope,
and now I am so hopelessly old and lonely.
I am looking at my old orphanage,
and Patrick's reverberant voice crosses my mind,
Patrick who is long since reading his dear little poems
to angels in white heavenly fields.
When I used to stray the dark streets of the world,
the memory of his precious and clear eyes
was my lighthouse,
and now I am left without youth and friends,
hopelessly old and lonely,
in the company of crows, darkness and poverty.
While I am standing at my little sight of the world,
the wind is carrying around the cigarette ember
along the street of my childhood,
leaving behind a fiery trail for my poverty,
and the old orphanage window,
my small sight of the world,
is creaking like the bones of an old homeless man,
as if it arrived at its end too.
I wonder how many views that old window had provided,
and how many gazes and scorn it withstood?
My old window into the world squeaked again,
and now I know that it is time for me to venture into the dark,
to return into the world,
because my old window
is providing a new hope and new view of the world
to a new resident of the orphanage now.

From a biologically-not-belonging daughter

I was born to a couple
Who, probably did not want me
Left me in an orphanage

Even before I was born
And when I was a fetus
I passed through uncomforting
Situations, when my
Biological parents
Had a lot unpleasantries
To exchange
And it did not give me shock
To know that
I am in orphanage

One day
A couple came
Chose me from
A lot of orphans
Each looking for
Love and care
And waiting for
Such caring couple

I am in a new environment now
Both my biologically-not-belonging parents
Pouring love on this
Infant, and presenting me to others
As their long awaited pride
They saw with awe
My little movements
Each stage of my growth
Brought to them immense pleasure
And they gleefully shared
The growth changes in me
To their friends and relatives
Every other day someone
Visited me, invited me to their waiting hands
Watched this little me with wonder
And showered their affectionate blessings

The care of this
Deserted and disowned little girl
Saw its peak when my “parents”
Arranged for my first birth anniversary

I was decorated with earring
Though pained initially
I am proud of this, as this is the symbol
Of their love

I could not keep a count of how many
Attended to me
Assumed kidding roles to amuse me
And make me smile
With my four incision teeth exposed
Many a gift and lot of love
I felt for the first time
That this earth’s crest is held tight
Not because of any thing
But because of this love
Shown to a girl
Of unknown origin

It was not my birth anniversary
But was that of a
Self-imposed parenthood

Ethiopia didn't just blow my mind; it opened my mind. Anyway, on our last day at this orphanage a man handed me his baby and said, 'Would you take my son with you?' He knew, in Ireland, that his son would live, and that in Ethiopia, his son would die.

Marley Purt Drive

Sunday morning, woke up yawning; filled the pool for a swim.
Pulled down the head and looked in the glass just to see if I was in.
Went up the stairs and kissed my women to make her come alive.
'Cause with fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids ,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
That's how they are, so I grabbed out the car;convertible fifty-nine.
Headed for the freeway; tried to find the Pasadena sign.
Ten miles and three quarters more I wasn't feeling any more alive.
'Cause with fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
I used to be a minstrel free with a whole lot of bread in my bag.
I used to feel that my life was real, but the good Lord threw me a snag.
Now I'm gonna be the same as me ,no matter how I try.
'Cause with fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Turned 'round the car and headed for home; I guess I realized my fate.
Ten miles and three quarters more I pulled up outside the gate.
Twenty more kids were stood inside and that made thirty-five.
'Cause with an orphanage full of thirty-five kids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
An orphanage full of thirty-five kids ,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Sunday morning woke up yawning; filled the pool for a swim.
Pulled down the glass and looked in the mirror just to see if I was in .
Went up the stairs and kissed my women to make her come alive.
'Cause with an orphanage full of thirty-five kids ,
I got to go for a Sunday

Dogs (Homage)

Man’s best friend?

Why?

There is nothing quite as cute as a puppy
Dogs are more than pets, they’re companions
Dogs are fiercely loyal
Dogs protect life & property, even to their own demise
Dogs do not judge their masters
Dogs are grateful for any food fed them
Dogs can be trained to carry, guide, search, rescue and hunt
Dogs are great listeners
Dogs are ready to play anytime
Dogs are emotional sponges that absorb human misery
Dogs are wonderful match-makers and buffers
Dogs can chase away “The blues”
You can take a dog’s balls and he’ll still love you

Yes,
Dogs are 'Man’s best friend'
After all God is Dog spelled backwards...

What Would We Do Without Dogs?

What would we do without dogs?
Well, I'll tell you what we would do.
We'd wonder why they were taken away,
And ponder until we turn blue.

Why would we do all of this?
I'd do this because I care.
I care about animals and nature,
So to take away dogs, well,
If I were you, I wouldn't dare.

What would we do without dogs?
They say they are man's best friend.
So I guess the people would be sad,
Because it would have came the dogs' end.

Let's hope this never happens,
Until the end of time.
For now, while they're here,
Let's help and try and try,
To keep them here.

Sonnet: Country-Dogs but…

Who says that country-dogs are unworthy,
And dogs that roam the streets are to be shot?
So, people use the term in sense filthy;
But Dogs or Dogs where-ever from they’re brought.

The Dogs I see are sensible enough,
And keep their bodies clean in ways they can;
But human beings to them appear rough;
By looking once, they know the kind of man!

And some have excellent memory also,
And remember your kindness for long years;
When strangers come at nights, barking they do;
Ev’n children need not have any fears.

They scour the land and become prey to snakes;
And some are dead, sometimes in nearby lakes.

Stray dogs

Here and there and everywhere
Stray dogs doing business
And barkedup wrongtrees
And spoiled the working
Environments.

Stray dogs have no
Commonsense not true
Stray dogs encounter
The alien.
Stray dogs safeguard
The interest
And ensure to make
The area clean.

Stray dogs welcome
Common mass
Stray dogs do not like
Corrupt class.

Stray dogs can only think
The morrows
Stray dogs have practical
Experience and knowledge
You know I know all know.

Respect Your Dog

Respect Your Dog
Dogs have feelings like everyone else,
people treat them badly,
thinking they are beneath us.
Dogs help us spiritually, but people can’t see,
how they hurt man’s best friend dearly.
Now what species would leave its pack,
Live with another, be loyal and watch its back?
Dog is the sacrifice to save your life,
when wolf eats your dog,
you are only hurt
like an arm that’s been knifed.
Need I say more
to defend dogs galore?

A Brave Child

To wave a brave man comes with fun,
Construct a bend, construct orphan.
To die may buy some certain craze,
The orphanage designs always.

We burn from lusts that orphans don’t,
Their purity must force, but won’t.
The excellence surprises me,
Of children working a penny.
