What Will I Teach For A Start
this semester is about to begin
another set of faces meet me in this
closed classroom, these students who swear
they want to be good lawyers
ambitious minds
their tongues in cheek
their mouths pocketing some
ancient motives
how to get rich quickly with the law on their fingertips
how to move ahead and pin the rest at dead-end streets
of their finicky, cunning, twist and turns of logic and
fraudulent flings
at their age of suspicion
they look at me with a scrutiny
this demi-god must teach
where the pot of gold lies where the rainbow ends
the map must be laid
the details verified correctly on the spot
the rules and exceptions
the exceptions to the exceptions
the laws of property and family relations
there is no law about who gets hurt
or who gets killed in the process
there is only the law of winning
the code of the loser is simply not found here
today, as an introduction
i will lay them the true cards of the study
for a start
everything starts with the rule on compassion
the code of humanity
the true law is love, and mercy and verisimilitude
the palimpsest shall be presented
i draw the shape of their hearts drenched with blood
they also must learn the value of hope
the art of patience
the devotion to the law
and fidelity to the truth
there shall be no disgust
no schemes to defeat the other by guile and ruses
i will teach love
and they may laugh for a while
afterwhich they can search some more
and be fragile like this white chalk
crumpling to the solid blackboard
questing for correct answers
this legal truth
from moral ones torn apart
in a wide chasm
by all means they can justify as the days go by
why they must love the law why they must be human too

Not Counting You
When loving turns to parting
Im always the first to leave
Cause when it comes to heartaches
Id rather give than to receive
Ive never cried myself to sleep
Just praying Ill get through
Ive never lost at love not counting you
(chorus)
Not counting you Ive never had a heartache
Not counting you I never have been blue
Theres no exceptions to the rule
Ive never been nobodys fool
Ive never lost at love not counting you
Ive never got down on my knees
And asked the lord above
If he would only bring to me
The one Im dreaming of
Begging to be taken back
And swearing Ill be true
Has never crossed my mind not counting you
*chorus*
Theres no exceptions to the rule
Ive never been nobodys fool
Ive never lost at love not counting you
Theres no exceptions to the rule
Ive never been nobodys fool
Ive never lost at love not counting you
No, Ive never lost at love not counting you

Patience Given
Patience given,
To those dealing with their insecurities...
Have several exceptions!
Patience given to a child,
Learning when and how to use a toilet.
Patience given to a child,
Going to school for the first time.
Patience given to a child,
Learning how to share.
Patience given to a child,
When left with a babysitter.
Patience given to a child,
When learning the difference...
Between telling a lie and being honest.
Patience given to a child,
When being taught to be responsible.
Patience given,
To those dealing with their insecurities...
Have several exceptions!
Extenuating exceptions beyond the call of reason,
Requires one to ignore with an ability...
That preserves a peace of mind one wishes,
To keep and maintain undisturbed...
By those who are,
Disturbed by their expectations to be exceptions...
To the rule.

The uncommon to be common
There are exceptions to rules.
When exceptions exceeds in use,
Rules relegate to exceptions
And exceptions stay as rules.
The uncommon one frequenting,
The common one is replaced
By the uncommon to be common.
Marriage is soon to be uncommon.

The Classroom
you walk on by the classroom
day to day
but never think about
what’s in it
I know, I didn’t
not because you don’t care
cause it never entered your mined
you might wonder when you see the students
you might know that
they have to go to a “special”
classroom of there own
you might even know what’s
in the classroom
you don’t know what they
do in the classroom
the academics
the physical therapy
the carts and crafts
the culinary arts
most of all the life skills
sounds a lot like most of you classes
right
cause it is
so why not just stop on by
say hello to
the staff
the students
talk to one of the students for a while
they will teach you something
you’ll never learn anywhere else
the classroom will always be there
with students and staff
that will talk to you
watch them watch the students
you’ll learn a lot about life
let the classroom teach you something
let you teach the classroom,
that being “normal” is not
so different
teach that
please teach that
to the
classroom
for it will always be
just
a classroom with
students
staff
and a few students
who stopped on by
and
said hello

The Piles Of Folders
today i am bringing another folder
at home
i am supposed to read them
ah, all these lives of people that i do not
personally know, the things that they keep
on doing against each other
these cains and abels
these black sheep and fauns
these sphinx and sea monsters
i will be learning their minds and studying
how to read them
how they speak and how they
justify evil
how they explain like magicians
taking rabbits from black hats
and converting newspaper cuttings
into money bills
it will be fun, i suppose, and i will be spending
more time than watching The Piano
on tv,
i will be lost in these labyrinths of motives
and acts
people kill sometimes for no reason at all
i am taught that
and some people admit what heinous crimes
other people do
for nothing at all
there are subsumed stories
exceptions to the rule of human behaviors
and there will be exceptions to the exceptions too
ah, my mind is strangulated by these criminals
my thoughts becoming too convoluted in
a tunnel of plots
but i will not be dead
neither shall i be intimidated
i will not quit
in fact, i will have my last laugh
giving what is due to the other
clapping for the innocent
giving justice
letting the criminal go on the basis
of reasonable doubts
crying with the widows
and consoling the orphans
talking to God
and making judgments for the poor
and then at night
i sleep without any pillow at all
too tired
i sleep on my hands
on the headboard light
unswitched
off.

The Grey Areas: Revised
they think and teach you
that black is black and white is white
that either you are moral or immoral
that either you leave or stay
that either you die or live
that there are only choices of
either/or
they tell you do not do this
do not do that
do only this and that
they prohibit you and tell you
it is for your own good
as though they are gods
and you are the dogs
an old man with bright eyes
asks me to go near him
and he says: try the middle of things
it is not just black or white but
there are shades and shades of choices
in between
in there everything is allowed.
the grey areas. the exceptions. the exemptions.
try them. they are all exciting. like the colors of the rainbow
like the patches of red, and orange and blue and pink
you see, who is telling you that there are no other colors
than black and white?
i am neither good nor bad.
In truth, i am just myself.

Tuck Your Shirt In
My name is Holly
And I like
I'm so glad that you asked me out tonight
Our conversation over dinner was really nice
But don't forget you still owe me dessert
It's 12 we missed the late show
So let's head over to this joint that I know
Everytime I take someone it's always such a ride
But there's a dress code
You've got to follow
There's no exceptions
And once you're in
If you want TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of
Other clothes
If you don't follow this
One moment
Tuck your shirt in
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
We're probably gonna need to call a cab
Ten minute walk over there and back
But I think it's best we
Save our energy
Tonight I'm really on the grind
Otherwise I'd normally wait a while
Before I'd ask
Somebody to my party
But there's a dress code
You've got to follow
There's no exceptions
And once you're in
If you want TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of
Other clothes
If you don't follow this
One moment
Tuck your shirt in
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
But there's a dress code
You've got to follow
There's no exceptions
And once you're in
If you want TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of
Other clothes
If you don't follow this
One moment
Tuck your shirt in
TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of

If you don't follow this

Home Truth
I hung up the phone tonight
Just as you said I love you
Once this would have been coincidence
Now these things start to bother me
You still close your eyes when I kiss you
And I close mine too
But we didnt open them again
Quite as wide as we should
This is where the home truth ends
This is where the home truth ends
Does your touch feel the same as it should do
Or is it someone quite similar
Who killed me with kindness last night
Now do I look at all familiar?
But none of these things seem to matter
Since weve grown apart
Id put back the pieces of whats shattered
But I dont know where to start
This is where the home truth ends
This is where the home truth ends
This is where the home truth ends
And I feel like a clown
Its tearing me up
Its tearing me down
You say which are the lies that you tell me
Well where do I begin?
So I turn on the tv again
And the world comes crashing in
Is it my shirt or my toothpaste
That is whiter than white?
Is it the lies that I tell you
Or the lies that I might?
This is where the home truth ends
This is where the home truth ends

Exceptions Made To Created Rules
Exceptions made to created rules,
Has established the need.
For a Department of Addendums.
Making the following of rules,
Foolish.
For anyone attempting to understand,
The purpose of their origin.
Since the following of rules legitimately,
Hasn't made those values and standards...
Many proclaim as adding a quality to their lives,
A cost effective proposition.
In fact,
Prior to those exceptions made,
One's life lived had been with less complications.
Today,
Those complications are needing interpretations...
For those seeking explanations,
Whether to live basically with no rules to follow.
Or demand more addendums,
To define what basic means.
And which lawful rule is broken,
If one decides living a life that 'is' basic
Will not have them arrested for indecent exposure.
Since many will protest they have become offended.
By someone daring to live,
Without attempting to make impressions.

Teach Me Tonight
TEACH ME TONIGHT (WITH LEVI STUBBS)
WRITERS SAMMY CAHN, GENE DePAUL
Did you say I've got a lot to learn?
Well, don't think I'm trying not to learn
Since this is the perfect spot to learn
Teach me tonight
Starting with the ABC of it
Right down to the XYZ of it
Help me solve the mystery of it
Teach me tonight
The sky's a blackboard high above you
If a shooting star goes by
I'll use that star to write "I love you"
1000 times across the sky
One thing isn't very clear, my love
Should the teacher stand so near, my love?
Graduation's almost here, my love
Teach me tonight

The Gift Of Love For God
the gift of love for God
for our fellow human beings
in hopes of each new generation...
is a dream to cherish honour
though reality will test bless
all according to the fatal purity...
of true heart and merit
true teachers seek
to teach much more
than simple facts
techniques
systems
skill ability
all true teachers
wish for all
their students
to gain not
just knowledge
but wisdom...
compassion
a love and respect
for morality...
a love for truth

Crack The Code
I want the words
something you havent heard
will I find them and
will I have what it takes to say them
in the world beside
this one there are no lies and
no suspicion
only dreams without end
You gotta feel what I mean
Look into my eyes and know
Im trying to come clean
But I stumble every time
And then the words they escape
fail to take shape
Its all in the code now (come again)
Feel what I mean
Look into my eyes and know
Im trying to come clean
But I stumble every time
And then the words they escape
fail to take shape
Its all in the code now
Will you let me retract let me take it back
Sometimes my words lack and my mind flies off the track
What Im trying to convey is miles from what I say
And you slip away
In life there are times
when nothing will rhyme
there are days I slip
when I know I should climb
breakin the vows I swore Id never break
a harsh word a white lie easy to mistake
where have you been
havent you noticed
theres no map that exists
to point us out of this
my heart was the target
it found your arrow
baby you know I want to be
your straight and narrow
I been trying to transmit a feeling
I been hoping you receive what Im revealing
See the main thing is hang with me and relate
As we communicate watch out
Fenced in like a dog between houses
Balled up by the trouble my mouth gets
Wrapped up in the things that I dont know
dont you know
Hoping that you crack the code oh
The first to crack the code
(You may not think Im ready to have your love again) oh oh
(You may not think Im ready)
You are the first to crack my code
I want the words
something you havent heard
will I find them and
will I have what it takes to say them
You gotta gotta feel what I mean
Look into my eyes and know
Im trying to come clean
But I stumble every time
And then the words they escape
fail to take shape
Its all in the code now
Didnt I know Im wrong wrong wrong when you knew
You didnt have to give me so long long long to see through
Not predictable what I will do but you know
Cause you cracked the code
Your body is a country
that you know Ill return to
craving like a family heirloom
that I am into
no baby how could I follow
everything you do
just remember when we touch
I feel so renewed
The first to understand me that would be you
It cant work if we cant be open and true
The best thing to happen to me let it be told
That would be the moment that you cracked my code oh oh
The first to crack the code
(You may not think Im ready to have your love again) oh oh
(You may not think Im ready)
You are the first to crack my code

I Want to Be True
I don't want to be clever or witty or wise
I just want to be true.
Truth?
Truth was us when, inside me, you looked into my eyes and found my love,
Truth was us when we laughed and played,
Truth was us when you cared too much for me to make love to me,
Truth was us, when knowing me, you were brave in your words and helped me be true.
Truth?
Truth was your tenderness, your joy, your heart.
Truth was my surrender, my giving, my happiness.
Truth was your love, was my love, was the love we created between us.
The truth was our honesty and ease.
Truth?
Truth is the emptiness I feel at my loss of you,
Truth is my naïve hope, all present, that you will come to me,
Truth is the pain at night while I grieve for you,
Truth is my smile and my love playing the memories.
Truth is this moment, the now, the present.
The truth is I had something more than wonderful, and I can't have it anymore.
The truth is I so wish I was with you.
Truth?
So many truths?
I will be true in the moment. x

Abuse And The Aftermath
So now I walk these loney streets
My family, they cannot dry these tears
Nor give, rest for these tired feet
Nor calm these ever present fears
For I have seen that life
Which gave those tainted hearts
And guile which makes every thing gray
And so alone in life, I seek too start anew
I look for a new way
I wanted my family to know that
And that
Life goes on no matter what
And that These truths cannot be quelled
For true memories and true love are
Never to be forgot
For within my heart they'll always dwell
So I keep walking, some lonely street
I keep searching, to find a-way
And every night as I start troubled sleep
Love's promise, for me tomorrow... tomorrow will
Be a better day
And so I awake and I start anew
Knowing that my love
Will always be there...for you
Now these words I give to honor
So that my family may share
I just wanted them to know
How much I really did care
And for love, I'd go back there
and I'd rexperience all that pain
I'd do-it in a moment
If all your love I could gain
For you are my real and only family
And this I can never forget
Nor depart
For true love, is true love
And true love will never leave
Even from me, and this broken heart

Mighty Mighty
Maurice white & verdine white
Walk around, why wear a frown
Say little people, try to put you down
What you need, a helpin hand
All the strength, at your command
Hows ya faith? cause ya faith is you
Who you kiddin, to yourself be true
Spread ya love, for a brighter day
For what ya search, youll find a way
We are people, of the mighty
Mighty people of the sun
In our hearts lies all the answers
To the truth you cant run from
Eagle flies, every seven days
Still cryin the blues, all about ya pay
What ya gonna do? bout your living thang
Will ya make it better, or just complain
Everday is real, dont run from fear
Cause better days are very near
There are times when you are bound to cry
One more time, head to the sky
We are people, of the mighty
Mighty people of the sun
In our hearts lies all the answers
To the truth you cant run from

Call A Spade A Spade
at that very young age
you were taught to call a spade a spade
and a square a square. There are no exceptions to the rule.
There are no compromises with the truth.
Then you grow to be a very nice, self-made man.
You practice what was taught to you.
And you meet pain and disappointments.
And you suspect that the teachers are wrong.
Time teaches you.
Squares sometimes become rectangles on an extension of a principle
to accommodate a compromise of a certain shape.
A spade need not be a spade depending on who gets axed.
A square peg you sometimes put in a round hole and it does not matter
really what happens next. You are simply told to do so as ordered.
And what is important is that they like it.
You survive the hazards of this life.
You become successful on the science of compromise,
the art of plea bargaining, the techniques of human relations.
You get some plaques for a lessened self-restraint.
You get the awards and recognitions for being their man of the year.
And one day you look at yourself in the mirror.
You see a different face and you do not like it anymore.
You quit and hide. You go away. You want to be left alone.
You want to reinvent yourself and listen to the voice.
Carefully, you cure the sickness of success.
All you need is a self who accepts yourself. All you need is the touch
of your hand. The applause has become pain itself.
And there you are, finding the truth again. The real meaning.

My family my tree
Deep rooted in my heritage

My family fair sky
Where my sun always shine
