The Sickness
he cannot imagine himself
now
swallowing from pill to pill
his stomach
becoming more like
a pharmaceutical
storage cabinet
there is a pill for his
numb arms
another pill for his
acidic stomach
more pills for him
to sleep
another pill for his
throat infection
another one for his
allergies
side effects of some
drugs that he had been

Insomniacs Complaint
I take a pill to help me sleep.
I take another when I wake
To me the cost is rather steep
I got addicted by mistake.
Although I had tries counting sheep
It didn’t work I lay awake.

Is is a bitter pill to swallow

Then a feeling follows
That stuffs the Vedic gods to their gills.

Lie Still
How simple it is for some to lie still
and close their ears for they've lost the will
to object or reject
any unconscionable act.
Much easier to take the blue pill.
For the red pill will alert you. Don't want that
for your ears will hear and know where you're at.

A Wonderful Little Green Pill (conversation and conclusion)
'I'm sorry to hear you're feeling ill -
Take my advice, there's a little green pill
That could make you feel better, even give you a thrill,
Go on, have another, but remember the bill! '
'Mmmn, that's nice, and I don't need an excuse
To indulge myself freely in substance abuse,
There are those who would say my morals are loose,
They won't listen to my reasons, so what's the use! '
'I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my cure,
The pain you have suffered is too much to endure,
These pills are the best, the ingredients are pure,

I Cant Own Her
And I may as well wish for the moon in hand
I own this river, I own this town
All of its climbers and its winos sliding down
But I cant own her and I never will
No I cant own her and thats a bitter pill
Taken with rain
til the gutter shines like the swirling sky

'The way I look at it' she said
unscrewing the cap and rolling
a longish pill from a small vial,
tan and smooth, with rounded edges-
a girl-from-Ipanema of a pill,
into the palm of her hand,
'We are like thirsty houseplants
that curl up, sink into themselves
and wither-shrivel.
'What do you mean'? , I said.
'Bright, high-achieving dolls'
she continued, like that
talented chick in the Offenbach opera
but we run out of steam'.
'Cheers', she said, interrupting herself,
and onto her tongue slipped the pill:
her swallow muscles moved and stood still.
Don't think, just do-
Too much thinking messes you up'.
'What do you mean'? I said.
'Just add water', she gulped-
sparkling, ropey, New York tapwater,
and the plant lives to die again. Why?
