The Echo
i make a sound
around the sides of the mountain
like walls to my being
the sound comes back to me
over and over again
like a conscience barking
a dog fenced
barking without end
i listened
and i wonder if it is the first sound
i made
what we do and say comes back to us
begging
that it would have been better if we have not
done and said them at all

Another Reason Why I Don't Keep A Gun In The House
The neighbors' dog will not stop barking.
He is barking the same high, rhythmic bark
that he barks every time they leave the house.
They must switch him on on their way out.
The neighbors' dog will not stop barking.
I close all the windows in the house
and put on a Beethoven symphony full blast
but I can still hear him muffled under the music,
barking, barking, barking,
and now I can see him sitting in the orchestra,
his head raised confidently as if Beethoven
had included a part for barking dog.
When the record finally ends he is still barking,
sitting there in the oboe section barking,
his eyes fixed on the conductor who is
entreating him with his baton
while the other musicians listen in respectful
silence to the famous barking dog solo,
that endless coda that first established
Beethoven as an innovative genius.

The Sound Of The Atom Splitting
(lowe/tennant/lipson/horn)
------------------------
I hate you
I hate you
Nothing will ever be the same
Oh really
Don't be silly
I told you it was all a game
Whenever i see you or your work
It makes me feel like spitting
What's that noise?
Oh that
We've been expecting it for ages
It's the sound of the atom splitting
He's a villain,
Him over there
With a stocking on his head
Look, there's another one
They call themselves pinheads
What's that noise over there?
Is it the corrogated iron they're hitting?
No, no, it's perfectly normal
It's just the sound of the atom splitting
Whose side are you on anyway?
Is that some kind of threat?
Well, i suppose it will have to do
As long as you don't make too much mess
And would the last person to leave
- once you all finish kissing -
Turn the video on to record
You never know what you're missing
Bread and circuses
And maybe later
The sound of the atom splitting
Quiet at the back, please!
No whistling
It's the sound
The sound
The sound of the atom splitting
I hate you
I hate you
Quiet at the back, please!
No whistling
It's the sound
The sound
The sound of the atom splitting
It's the sound
The sound
The sound of the atom splitting
Oh really
Don't be silly
I told you it was all a game
It's the sound
What's that noise?
Quiet at the back, please!

Sounds that should not be missed
Sound of blossom of a flower,
I desire to hear,
the sound of nature.
Sound of rain's glassy water drop,
over a roof's top,
the sound of joy.
Sound of beat of our heart,
through our ears caught,
the sound of wonder.
Sound of delicious supper in boil,
after a great day's toil,
the sound of hunger.
Sound of a mother's loving ballad,
hearing the cry of her toddler,
the sound of love! ! !

Sound of war
...
Bum! Bum! Bum!
Sound of war
it's like the roaring of a lion
I the jungle.
Sound of war
It's like flash of the lightening
Sound of war
It make people lose their strength
Sound of war
It make people to run to and fro
Sound of war
Um...
Sound of war
make people hopeless
when there is hope
Sound of war is cruel
Because it make people shudder
It make people suffer, shudder shiver, cringe
And due before they die
Sound of war
Oops!
Ouch!
Phew!

When The Walls Came Tumbling Down
On the first day of the first month in some distant year
The whole sky froze golden
Some said it was the aftermath of the radium bomb
While others told of a final retribution
A terrible revenge of the gods
But we understood the grand finale
Fulfillment of a prophecy told many years before
So all that was left was...
All the women were captured and chained
And national suicide was proclaimed
And New America fell to the ground
And all the children lay crippled and lame
But all the nations came together
In fear of the thought of the end
No more would we fight in the streets
No courage had we to defend
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Everybody ran as they screamed at the sound
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Everybody ran as they screamed at the sound
A blinding light the sun had died
A new moon took its place
Tidal waves and open graves the fate of the unhuman race
The city's heart no longer beats no pity have I left to lend
A sinner sits reciting Dylan it's now that I welcome the end
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Everybody ran as they screamed at the sound
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Everybody ran as they screamed at the sound
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Everybody ran as they screamed at the sound
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Nobody made a sound
Down

Your Sound Is Sweeter
There's no sound as sweet as yours
It takes me before dawn
It lies with me after midnight
Chorus
And your sound
Holds me
Like nothing else has before
Your sound
Loves me
And I can't fight it anymore
End chorus
Your sound is sweeter than
All the fighting I've done
It catches the truth and holds on
Chorus
And your sound
Holds me
Like nothing else has before
Your sound
Loves me
And I can't fight it anymore
End chorus
Your sound plays back through my head again
It's the only thing keeping me going
Loving you, forever and ever
Chorus
And your sound
Holds me
Like nothing else has before
Your sound
Loves me
And I can't fight it anymore
End chorus
Your sound is sweeter than
The moonlight on my windowsill
It sings, I dropp dead
Chorus
And your sound
Holds me
Like nothing else has before
Your sound
Loves me
And I can't fight it anymore
End chorus
I'm awake with your sound
Echoing in the dark
Your sound is sweeter than love
Chorus
And your sound
Holds me
Like nothing else has before
Your sound
Loves me
And I can't fight it anymore
End chorus
Horrible Sounds
We all have sounds that we like
noises that can give us a thrill
but what about those we don't
such as the dreaded Dentists Drill?
Dogs barking can be really annoying
after a while it can drive you up the wall
and when I was a kid I got on my parents nerves
for using the side of the house to kick my ball.
Fingernails scraping down a blackboard is grating
that's even worse than an irritating mobile ringtone
like your sitting in the cinema enjoying a film
when someones forgot to switch off their bloody phone.
The sound of a person vomiting is pretty gross
in fact the noise can make you feel sick too
and what about the sound of a baby constantly crying
or your friend sniffing away saying they've got the Flu?
A door or gate that creaks can get you all edgy
as can the sound of rustling paper or cellophane
but the noise I hate more than any of these
is the sound of money being poured down the drain!

Doghouse
Out to the doghouse with you, thats what she said
Youve been inside too long now, I must clean the mess
Go in the backyard will you, practice your tricks
Go take yourself for a walk, you make me sick
Youre just a doggy, in a snap youre fetching the bone
And youre barking when she calls
Youre hiding behind the fence, youve been disobedient
Your fun and playfulness is so very becoming
But she has got you by the reins, and there is no running
Conditioned to salivate at the first sound of the bell
Feeding you the remains of yesterdays meal
Can you hear her calling from within the house?
Youre just a doggy, in a snap youre fetching the bone
And youre barking when she calls
Youre hiding behind the fence, youve been disobedient
Shape up boy!
Can you hear her calling, from within the house?
If you would stop barking, she might let you out
At last she opens the back gate, youre released, youre now free to
Roam
Youve been waiting for this moment for sometime and now you must
Go
Into the fields where there is laughter, there is peace and youre
Comfortable
Try to hold on now before she calls you home!
Youre in the doghouse
cause youre just a dog!

Sons Of The Silent Age
Sons of the silent age
Stand on platforms blank looks and note books
Sit in back rows of city limits
Lay in bed coming and going on easy terms
Sons of the silent age
Pace their rooms like a cells dimensions
Rise for a year or two then make war
Search through their one inch thoughts
Then decide it couldnt be done
Baby, Ill never let you go
All I see is all I know
Lets take another way down (sons of sound and sons of sound)
Baby, baby, Ill never let you down
I cant stand another sound
Lets find another way (sons of sound and sons of sound)
Sons of the silent age
Listen to tracks by sam therapy and king dice
Sons of the silent age
Pick up in bars and cry only once
Sons of the silent age
Make love only once but dream and dream
Dont walk, they just glide in and out of life
They never die, they just go to sleep one day
Baby, I wont ever let you go
All I see is all I know
Lets take another way down (sons of sound and sons of sound)
Oh baby, baby, baby, I wont ever let you down
I cant stand another sound
Lets take another way in (sons of sound and sons of sound)
(sons of sound and sons of sound)
Baby, baby, baby, fire away!

The wolf is not afraid of the dog, but he doesn't like the sound of his barking.
Small Glimpses Of Holiness
i can remember being a kid,
and going to church on Sunday....
can remember the way the sunlight
danced through the stained glass
windows, the smell of the old
hymnals, the way the hard bench
hurt my back....
can remember singing the old hymns...
(sometimes they come to me
in my sleep....)
but i cant remember any particular sermon!
it's funny what we equate with God,
and holiness... and what we dont!
just as easy i can remember being alone
in the woods, watching sunlight pour
through the pines, listening to the gurgling
of the creek.... and the way the earth felt
beneath my bare feet.....
or the first time i ever made love
to a girl... in the front seat of an
old Rambler.... moonlight sifting through
the trees... and the barking of a dog.
or sleeping in a cave, on the run, and the
damp darkness like a womb enveloping
me... with only the sound of a nearby
waterfall piercing the stillness....
or standing by my mother's grave...
watching a part of myself go back
to the dust...
or the sound of my children's voices
when they just needed assurance....
small glimpses of holiness drifting
through an old man's mind... on the way
back home.

The Sound Of Lost Love
*Heart sound*
An Indian’s drum
Thunder in the sky
The bass in a song
*Heart sound*
The sound of love
*Heart sound*
*Heart sound*
Gunshots through the air
Bumps on the road
Sticks of dynamite
*Heart sound*
The sound of love
*Heart sound*
*Slow heart sound*
Glass breaking
The ripping of paper
Nails on a chalkboard
*Slow heart sound*
The sound of lost love
*Slow heart sound*

Summer at Blue Creek, North Carolina
There was no water at my grandfather's
when I was a kid and would go for it
with two zinc buckets. Down the path,
past the cow by the foundation where
the fine people's house was before
they arranged to have it burned down.
To the neighbor's cool well. Would
come back with pails too heavy,
so my mouth pulled out of shape.
I see myself, but from the outside.
I keep trying to feel who I was,
and cannot. Hear clearly the sound
the bucket made hitting the sides
of the stone well going down,
but never the sound of me.

Comfort In Sound
We fall right in and suffer the sins
Try to pull things round when the air starts to thin
We nurse regrets, restricted in our own belief
A new disease
We shake new hands, the victims of fate
We tread new ground misfortune conveys
You tear yourself apart
Wishing to be born again
A different man
(chorus)
Comfort in sound
Its all around
Ease back the strain
Come heal your pain
Comfort in sound
Its all around you now
Comfort in sound
We suffer love together as one
An empty heart with nowhere to turn
We find ourselves looking back another way
A brand new day
(chorus)
Comfort in sound
Its all around
Ease back the strain
Come heal your pain
Comfort in sound
Its all around you now - yeah
Solution gone, emotions ablaze
A life so strong just faded away
You find yourself searching for a quick release
A new belief
(chorus)
Comfort in sound
Its all around
Ease back the strain
Come heal your pain
Comfort in sound
Its all around you now
Comfort in sound

Inside Of Yours....
the sound you hear,
not someone knocking at the door...
not a branch blown against the window,
not the barking of a distant dog.
tis not thunder, or gunfire,
nor the shout of an angry mob.
tis not God, or Satan, or destiny,
not even the growl of the hungry.
it's not tomorrow, yesterday,
or the drums of despair....
not the low voice of doubt,
or the cry of injustice!
listen closely, be still,
stop thinking and defining...
for the sound you hear is just my heart,
beating inside of yours!

The Stature of Truth
Watch them closely.
Your greater life depends on this.
See their bodies, watch their faces,
listen to their sound, which is
now the sound that we all own.
Now see your self, seeing them;
watch your self, watching them;
listen to your self, listening
to yourself. This is the moment
grace graces us. Our grace.
This shelf-stacker with
a battered face; this
village lady with a homely build;
this child, who, simply, sings
as if that could not be more natural:
see them; watch them; listen to the sound.
See them in profile: nobility
now shapes their face;
this is what heroes are,
heroes who await our call.
They have surrendered to their self;
was it we who called them?
Are there times when truth itself
is impatient of release; cannot wait
for us to earn that?
Perhaps just a few bars, as the song
begins to take them over,
sings, them; perhaps the climax of the song,
when all we can do is wildly clap,
applaud ourselves for what they’ve told us
that we always knew: we too, heroes,
heroines, waiting for the call
to be ourselves:
for a few bars, their stature
is beyond measure; remind yourself,
you saw it, watched them, listened:
listened to the sound which says
this, my sound, is the sound
that can do anything. anything:
now I make the world anew.
For a few bars, they tell us
this, this is who we are,
every one of us; this is
what talent’s given for; this,
what we were made for;
this is how great we are.
This is the sound of truth
singing the truth of truth itself;
this is what grace can do.
This is who we are.

Bordom
Sitting
Nothing
No sound
Not even the dog in the back
Then a song comes up
Same ol song
Never ending
I just keep pushing play
Thinking
What will tomarrow be like
Nothing
Same ol life
Same ol thing
Nothing changing
Not even the song
Not the dog barking
Not the creaks and cracks of the haunted floor
Not the feel of someone watching
Not the wish of something else
Nothing changeing ever
I guess nothing silent
Just every same thing
Boring
Im lost in bordom
Ready lets push play
dododo
Same ol song
Nothing changeing
Everything the same
Boring life
No Change
Rarely ever
Boring life
click clack
same ol anoying keyboard
Sound coming barely over that boring song
Does anything change
Or is life ment to be Boring
Dull
Nothing life
Was that a sound?
Phone ring?
Some one home?
Or is the nothing boring life getting to me?
Am I going insane?
Still no change
Nothing at all
Push play again

Once, there was this kid who
Took a trip to singapore and brought along his spray paint
And when he finally came back
He had cane marks all over his bottom
He said that it was from when
The warden whacked it so hard
Mmm mmm mmm mmm, mmm mmm mmm mmm
(*whip* sound) ahh
Once there was this girl who
Swore that one day she would be a figure skating champion
And when she finally made it
She saw some other girl who was better (*ding* sound)
And so she hired some guy to
Club her in the kneecap
Mmm mmm mmm mmm, mmm mmm mmm mmm
(*thwack* sound) ahh
Mmm mmm mmm mmm, mmm mmm mmm mmm
They got paid for their sound bites
And sold their tv movie rights
And then, there was this guy who
Made his wife so mad one night that she cut off his weiner
And when he finally came to
He found that mr. happy was missing
He couldnt quite explain it
Itd always just been there

A Lonely Night
A lonely night,
just me and fog.
A crushing sound of barking dog.
A gental breeze now get a blame,
the candel cries, she lost the flame.
when the stars come for a treat of light.
some dreams knocked at the door of night,
now i am the king of my land,
a fairy comes and hold my hand.
we get together
and dance tonight
what a feeling!
is it called the love at site?
suddenly someone put break on my dreamy train,
street dogs are bark again.
now i returned in the real world
of a lonely night, fog and
some barking dog.

I Hate Myself And Want To Die (Outtake '92)
Runny nose and runny yolk
Even if you have a cold still
You can cough on me again
I still havent had my fulfill
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
Broken heart and broken bones
Think of how a castrated horsefeels
One more quirky cliche'd phrase
You're the one I wanna refill
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
most people don't realize
that two large pieces of coral,
painted brown, and attached tohis skull
with common wood screws can makea child look like a deer
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
Runny nose and runny yolk
Even if you have a cold still
You can cough on me again
I still havent had my fulfill
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound?
In the someday what's that sound
