The Changes Of The Times

when we took vacations in your place my dear cousins we brought you lots of
things: sacks of bananas, another sacks of camote, sacks of rice and
some fruits from our farm in zamboanga

that was in the late 70s when we truly missed each other and you cooked our bananas and camote and rice and you drank the juice and licked the pulp of our fruits
and you my dear cousins

in returning our kindness
you also treated us for a picnic in the nearby river where
there were still lots of fishes and big rocks and crystal clear waters where the wild ducks sometimes land to drink and rest and then fly in flocks
where the myth of the beautiful mermaid and her human lover on a forbidden tryst continue their madness
on a full mooned night
and we listen and someting magical still rings
like a longing in our hearts

we told lots of stories and time ran so quickly without notice
there was no delay at all, no boring moment
we simply ate and drank and sang some songs

we surely missed each other
on those abundant times

but my dear cousins, times have changed, kindness now not given and if given is not returned
you have been too busy and we too have been too busy too
looking for ways
to survive these hard times

we do not visit your place again, neither you visit us too,
i heard the news that the river in your place has dried and all the fishes there die
and the mermaid story was no longer told as no one wants to listen to myths
and no one believes anymore about fantasies
and giving and being kind
has become a waste of time

and i no longer hear the excitement of the word
'cousin' anymore
i have seen the changes, and let me tell you,
i do not blame anyone.

Bananas And Cream

(Kinky Friedman)
Well, a long time ago in old Tokyo
By the softly flowing stream
I left her there with the stars in her hair
On the other side of a dream.
Well, I traveled through with a heart full of blue
Never quite making my way
Till I come upon a strawberry blonde
Living in Pittsburgh, P.A.
Ah, bananas and rice they used to be nice
On the other side of a dream.
Oh, bananas and rice they used to be nice
But now it's bananas an cream.
I stood hypnotized, I stared in her eyes,
She smiled and I suddenly knew
If I made her my bride then the other side
0f my dream would finally come true.
Ah, bananas and rice they used to be nice
On the other side of a dream.
Oh, oh, bananas and rice they used to be nice

Lots Of Times

Lots of times we laugh and joke
And make funny faces
And lots of time we write notes
Telling each other hello
Lots of times we hung out
And made up funny games
And lots of times we stood together
And defended our beliefs
Lots of times I think of you
And how you're my best friend
And lots of times I know
That that will never end.

Kissin' Cousins

(words & music by giant - baum - kaye)
Cousins, kissin' cousins
Kissin's allowed 'cos we're proud to be cousins
What's a little teasin', huggin' and a-squeezin'
Between us cousins.
Oh it's so great to be one big family
And we show it, yes we show it
You see, we never feud, we're a happy brood
Folks all know it, yes they know it
Cousins, kissin' cousins
Honey we dress and we mess
We're just cousins,
Cousins, kissin' cousins
Cousins, kissin' cousins

She's Electric

She's electric
She's in a family full of eccentrics
She done things I never expected
And I need more time
She's got a sister
And god only knows how I've missed her
On the palm of her hand is a blister
And I need more time

And I want you to know
I've got my mind made up now
But I need more time
And I want you to say
Do you know what I'm saying?
But I need more ....
Coz I'll be you and you'll be me
There's lots and lots for us to see

My Simple Joy

I love to spend, stay and live in the sea
MEGGIE, the mermaid they loved to call me
With all the beautiful corals and fishes
These are my life's simple joy, you see

Collecting sea shells, big and small
In my small room i have it all
Consider it a blessing
My entire life, i give thanks.and oh... i wanted to sing

Come and see my favorite things
When the sky is blue, and i am feeling low
I go back to see this place i know
And spend my whole life through

note: I spent my entire younger days swimming in the sea
and my cousins fondly called me, 'Meggie the mermaid' he he.
thank you for any nice comment. Shalom!

Hi There, Outside World

Hi there, Outside world,
It's been a while, you see.
I've missed you lots, and tons, and much,
And we all know you've missed me.

Hi there, Outside world,
Come inside and stay a while,
No one will know where you've gone,
In here, from the world, so vile.

Hi there, Outside world,
Aren't you curious where I've been?
Don't you want to know everything,
Like why, and how, and when?

Hi there, Outside world,
It's much better inside of doors,
No noises, or sickness, or hate, or death,
Here there's only peace, no wars.

Hi there, Outside world,
Wouldn't you love to get away?
Just leave them there, Forget they care,
Just come inside and stay.

Hi there, Outside world,
We can be friends, just you and me,
We can sing, and dance, and talk,
And for once, we'll both be free.

Hi there, Outside world,
That world is a scary place,
Wouldn't you rather a nice warm house,
Where evil leaves no trace?

Hi there, Outside world,
Come live with me, my dear,
You'll never go another day,
While cowering in fear.

Hi there, Outside world,
Please don't ask to leave,
I need someone to stay with me,
It's lonely, you'll believe.

Wait, Outside world,
I can convince you, you'll see,
Just stay here for evermore,
Leave those people be.

Outside world, I need your help,
Don't leave me here to die,
It's sad, and I feel alone,
In my spare time, I cry.

What's that you say, Outside world?
Leave my house of sadness?
Go with you to your outside place?
My word, now that's just madness!

Listen here, Outside world,
I'm never welcome back,
I've left there once, and can't return,
Of that, I'm sure as fact.

Silly little Outside world,
You say I'm missed a lot,
How could that be, Outside world,
If I've never been sought.

I see all, Outside world,
And I know they do not want me,
I'd rather stay here, in my mind,
Than live amongst the happy.

I fear I can't, Outside world,
This house is all I need,
I know it's meager, and so dark,
But, I must live my creed.

I swore an oath, Outside world,
That I should live in here for ever,
Never leave, Never be,
With or without endeavor.

I keep my word, Outside world,
This place is where I stay,
I never can go back, you see,
I've gone too far away.

Goodbye, Outside world,
I really enjoyed our chat,
I'm sorry to hear you have to go,
Devastated, at that.

So long, Outside world,
If I never see you again,
Tell the world what happened here,
Don't let it happen to them.

Up To My Ears In Tears

(alan jackson/don sampson)
You told me you dont love me when you walked out the door
I stood there feelin lonely, then the tears began to pour
What else could I do, Id never felt like that before
So I cried an ol blue river I the middle of the floor
Now Im up to my ears in tears
Im cryin night and day since you went away
The things you used to say, honey, I no longer hear
That waters cold and clear, Im drownin for you dear
Up to my ears in tears
Well I found some old love letters you wrote me years ago
But the words all ran together when the tears began to flow
Cause you left that water runnin, now its got nowhere to go
If I cant wash away your memory guess Ill just go under slow
Now Im up to my ears in tears
Im cryin night and day since you went away
The things you used to say, honey, I no longer hear
That waters cold and clear, Im drownin for you dear
Up to my ears in tears
The waters cold and clear
Im drowning for you, dear
Up to my ears in tears

The River

Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you, the afterlife, beauty at it's peak.
All of this will be yours, unless you drinketh of the river."
Lift on up, glide across the forest
Turn right, find stones of solid gold
Power, you alone can feed a dragon
Just forget not, all that you've been told
I shall never, drink it from the river
I shall never, drink it from this hole
I didn't drink from the river
I did it all on my own
I taste and shared with my brothers
I told the rest to come on
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
Been to Heaven, it's just too bright for me
My blood, is way too cold for Hell
While I'm alive, keep makin it clear to me
They say listen up, you listen well
I will
I shall never, drink it from the river
I shall never, drink it from this hole
I didn't drink from the river
I did it all on my own
I taste and shared with my brothers
I told the rest to come on
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
COME ON
I didn't drink from the river
I did it all on my own

The Best Of Times

They were the best of times
when men were kind.
They were the best of times,
now hard to find.
What's happened to some human hearts?
Why is it the kindness now departs?
The reverence for life
is inundated
by the flooding of human tears
and as it's rising like tidal waves
all that man reveres
is giving way to the worst of times
that gives us pause to reflect,
to search for reasons to teach us
how to detect
why the kindness has gone away.
If ever your faith has taken leave
'Tis forever then your heart shall grieve.
For with your faith kindness returns
and brings back the best of times.
And so we must search for the goodness again
and ignore man's unkind crimes.

One Time For Old Times

You're lookin' fine, it's been a long time
I still remember everything that used to be
Like the love, it's always so easy loving you for me
It's been a while, though time has got a smile
I see it now, love feels new to me
Tell me have you still got a place in your heart
Is there a chance you'll be showing me
Chorus:
One time for old times, (darlin') one kiss for the love we missed
One time for old times, and for all the love that we've lost along the
way
You're still the same, nothing's really changed
Still got the look that always got through to me
I see you now, love feels new to me again, once again
Tell me now, has anyone taken my place
Is there any chance you'll come back to me
One time for old times, honey, one kiss for the love we missed
One time for old times, and for all the love that we've lost along the
way
One time for old times, darlin', one kiss for the love we missed
One time for old times, and for all the love that we've lost along the
way
(Solo)
You're lookin' fine, it's been a long time
I still remember everything that used to be
Tell me have you still got a place in your heart
Is there any chance you'll be showin' me
One time for old times, darlin', one kiss for the love we missed
One time for old times, and for all the love that we've lost along the
way
One time for old times, honey, one kiss for the love we missed

way
One for old times

Thailand Visit; My Marriage: Homeward Flight

on homeward flight i sit with 'Ghee'.
an East Bay businessman is he. there's a seat between us, to SFO,
for my wife......if not to mama's she did go.

our trip to Thailand is now done.
we had minor problems....but also fun.
my nose bled (twice) and wife's knee did too,
but we saw birds and beasts (wild) not in zoo.

a seeming-endless stream of bats
over us flew like winged-rats.
a huge water lizard had lost its tail;
i hope, at catching fish, it does not fail.

we had dinner one night with Urai and Karl,
but her mom's death our future plans to visit them did snarl.
he suggested we go see go-go clubs our last night,
but we retired early due to early next-day flight.

my wife bought Chinese bills, while on our trip,
which now sit in money belt on my hip.
hotel toothbrushes i'd give to beggers....(my treat)
but, after first night, beggers i did not meet.

Bangkok's fleet of Toyota taxis was sight to see;
orange, green, yellow, red, blue, and pink delighted me.
it would be busy enough with cars, buses, and trucks;
then add motorbikes galore, weaving among them like so
many little ducks.

in Sukhothai we peddled bikes to a big park.
we saw unleashed dogs, but none did bark.
we took photos of Buddhist ruins and of birds,
and with a Chinese tourist exchanged some words.

in Ayutthaya our cute waitress learned a new word, 'cake',
but I think from plastic, the icing they did make.
Pak Chong resort visit was delayed
by train accident...then by our 'rescuers'' charade.

)
we drank lots of bottled water; they say 'don't drink tap'.
but we brought our own soap to use after pee or crap!
accommodations ranged from a rustic park bungalow....
to some other, more expensive, places that put on quite a show.

i had trouble saying 'thank you' in Thai;
my wife struggled with the word 'baht'; i don't know why.
we ate lots of fruit, meat, eggs, and white rice.
some more vegetables, though, would have been nice.

the weather was pretty good, even cool at times.
my wife treated her skin carefully....to foil 'insect crimes'.
we saw no go-go girls; Karl said their time they'd sell.
but we mused about resort employee, whose sex was hard to tell.

the battery charger burned due to the wrong voltage.
we may make more such mistakes in our coming dotage.
twice we dried clothes on our wire clothesline.
we gave Karl and Urai dry snacks, but forgot to give them wine.

i sent greetings by cards to relatives and all;
my wife sent a few cards, and about twenty I did call.
i used my wife's laptop once, to check my email;
she used it, at times, to confirm our trip's detail.

the beds were 'hard' but sleep was pretty good.
my wife got two beds often, to get what sleep she could.
i called Penn Yan (N.Y.) drugstore one night, to check on
'sleeping pill's' effect
since with our west coast pharmacy i could not connect.

airline breakfast, just concluded, was a small hotdog.
the sun's lighting up the cloud banks, like the East Bay fog.
my stepdaughter will pick my up from SFO like she did 3 years
ago.
and again i'll have short head hair, and a beard i did just
grow.

by now my wife should be at mama's...., not too late i'd bet,
showing her our photo plate that from floating market we did get.
while in Japan she may look at some house to buy.
i guess then to Japan, again, i would someday fly.

on trip i took some U.S. dollars....., even some in my shoe.
i gave some U.S. coins to cabbie's little girls (2) . it was a true vacation; little exercise i did,
and i ate ice cream often...., like a little kid.

i think i behaved pretty well; not perfectly i'm sure.
it'd be a miracle if, for my wife, at ALL times i'd please her.
she, that is my dear wife, should back to me soon fly,
before the laundry pile here at home does reach up to the sky.

(there is more ……but we landed) happy new year! ! !

The game ranch

We went to visit my cousins
on their game ranch
and you hated it there
although every thing
was very comfortable
and you were well cared for.

What had set you off?
I still do not know,
but at breakfast you were already furious
although everybody
danced to serve and entertain you.

Was it the hunting tales
of the previous night
around the blazing big fire,
or the bush hog
that the Spaniard boasted
about killing,
which almost smashed him
of which his wife
had taken a video?

At the shooting range
some cool drink tins were set
and you didn’t want any help from me
and didn’t really listen
to the instructions from my cousins,
closing your eyes with every shot
that you took with the pistol
and missed every target by a mile.

I looked at the nine-millimetre pistol
with its missing front sight
and both my cousins smiled
as if conspiring with each other
and I clasped both hands together
in a well taught military hold
and your eyes went big,
almost popping out of your head
while the row of tins
was shot off
in what sounded like almost one shot.

On instruction I shot at the fallen tins
letting them jump into the air
until the magazine was empty
and the cousins
put matches standing up on bricks
and gave me a old.303 rifle
with an open sight.

I aimed carefully before pressing the trigger
and shot those matches down
and on your face
there was a frown
and even before we left
to go hunting
with some trackers
you looked at me
as if I had turned into a killer
and was going to shoot
at every living thing.

No time, no time for you.
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
Runnin from the risin heat
To find a place to hide,
The grass is always greener
Growin on the other side.
No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.

No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.

No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
Tryin to tell the world
Somehow of how I feel.
Tell me what you said again,
I cant believe its real.
No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
Andy, youre a dandy,
You dont seem to make no sense.
Nevermind the furthermore,

Lying To You

I've been avoiding
The truth for sometime now
But it's time to admit it
I stopped caring about you
along time ago
I know I said I loved you
just 5 minutes ago
But I lied to you
I know we had our hard times
And I said
I would stay by your side
til the end
But hard times seems is all
that we ever have anymore
I never meant to lie to you
But I couldn't
look you in the eye
And let you down again
I know our friends and family
Are gonna place there blame
But I just can't live like this
With you anymore

Heart's Day

we went on a picnic to the beach
with samsam, a local dog,
pret, my poodle, kuting, my japanese spitz,
bonbon, our dachshund

emma, my wife brought her favorite househelp named tatang,
marinel and gina, her friends cooked the potatoes
and prepared the sushi
jasmine rice that looked like tiny pearls
and pork barbecue

pret, my loyal poodle went with me walking
while kuting and bonbon played on the grass
barking and chasing some teasing finches

the air is cool
the sun not so bright at ten a.m.
clouds hang like soaked cottons
the sea is crystal clear like a mirror
the corals are visible
with some stone fishes

emma snored while asleep
and tatang excused herself to take a view of the place

i took my plunge alone in that crystal sea: splash!

it is a beautiful life
and on this day of the hearts
i can hear mine singing.

A bullock cart from Malacca

Long and winding road
with patches and holes
The holes which sometimes
turned into small ponds,
every time
after a heavy downpour
You can no longer smell the tar
on a hot burning day
The road was too old
even the town council named it
the road to cemetery
A rural town
occupied by
Malay farmers,
rubber tapers
and pensioners
living in kampong

An enormous green paddy field
spreaded in the middle,
next to the road
Sandwiched by villager’s
Meranti wooden Atap houses.
To get to the town
walk your way
cycling
don’t miss the bus
or you have to wait
for another hour to get one
(you can take a pirate taxis that operate in odd hours)
Small streams crossed
at the center of the rice fields
The streams that supplied enough
fresh water fishes
for the villagers to consume
Vegetables are grown
like mushrooms
covering most of front and backyards
Fruits farm aplenty and became
local delights
whenever the season comes

Every house had their well,
as deep as 10 meter
with cold fresh water
being channeled from the nearby hills
The vast green land
were also scattered
with cows, goats, sheeps and buffalos
owned by the villagers.
In the evening
images of small kids
riding on buffalo's back
on the way to their homes
is a typical scene,
which needs to be captured
on films
for nostalgic reasons.

In the misty morning
where dawn had just breakout
villagers throwing
dried corns,
rice to the grounds
hungry poultry
feeds their way through.
School going kids
walked 3 miles to school,
cutting through plantations,
paddy field
for the shorten route.
The sound of azan
(calls for prayers five times a day required by Muslims)
Echoed from the surau and mosque,
could be heard across the village.

To own a vehicle is luxury
Bullock cart (wagon pulled by cows)
Was used in redundant
ferrying firewood,
rice sacks,
for shipment
to the town
sometimes ferrying villagers
to attend weddings
in the neighborhood
or just a bunch of cheerful kids
who like to have a ride
around the kampong.
I remembered
I was having a great time
taking a ride on this bullock cart
owned by grandfather,
going to town
whenever I paid him a visit.
I was 8 years old
Riding the time of my life
Befriended the bulls
Bonded
And sacred

Well, no matter how far I traveled
Having to live in big cities
Like London and New York,
The reminiscent of being part of kampong’s folk
riding the Bullock Cart
will still and forever (which I hope)
stayed remains in my mind
Thanks folks
for the memories.

4: 59 In The Early Morning

the church bells nearby
toll
for whom, for you,
some prayers
broadcast on the microphone
in this place of
little christianities,

you wash your face
put on your clothes
church this morning
i forget, we used to
have church every
morning when we
were newly married,

changes, time,
ebb, high tides,
moons and more moons,
moorings and more moorings
mornings and lots of boring mornings,

i have changed and you have changed too.
i walk, i walk away, and you will pray,
i will pray too but in other silent places
far away from us, from you, from everything
familiar

too boring, but not sad yet, we are anticipating sadness
like noontime
lunch with so much chili and pepper,
and cold rice, the one we had
for breakfast,
these kinds, you know, are not my favorites....

yet without any word, you will serve them.
