banana shrub on the side of the hill,
things are not complicated here
things turn out as expected
events are predictable
there is nothing to worry
nothing changes here

and rivers are rivers
the hills do not grow anymore
except some vines
that the old people readily cut
for they said the tendrils are touching
the heavens
offending the sensibilities of the the
gods and goddesses
here,
you left on the third full moon
and you left a note
written in red ink, you declare
hey guys, i am complicated
i don't belong here
and they all hated you and promise
to kill you when you come back
they wish you ill

inside myself, i could have done the same
for i am more complicated than you,
but i am beside her
and the pictures of my ancestors
smile at me
at the altar perfumed by daily
incenses

good luck, i am staying

but i do not have the guts
i am frail as the afternoon,

Complicated Suicide

Another complicated suicide,
it all went acording to plan.
another complicated suicide,
will be the one t kill me.

the one that i tryed to cut myself down,

A Smile Is A Complicated Thing

A smile is a complicated thing, I'll tell you why,
Anyone can smile, as anyone should,
Yet still it can mask the deepest cuts, I know it's true,
It can deceive people into thinking one's okay, has it worked? ,
It can hide the tears that have dried upon ones face, can you see them?

A smile can show the world a little bit of light, if even just a glimmer,
It can take dark cracks in one's mind and disguise them, I wear a disguise,
It can put on a show for everyone to see, will you clap for me? ,
Yet a smile can also be true, I've had those too,
Offering nothing but joy and laughter, I remember those,
So before you pass off ones smile take a second to smile back, please smile at me,
Reassure them that they don't waste their smiles, are mine wasted? ,
Never judge a smile or ignore the eyes of the smiling, look in my eyes,
Look for hidden pains behind the mask, can you see? ,
Don't be deceived by the charade, listen to my silent story,

We Complicate We Simplify We Complicate

yesterday's conversation was a pendulum
of grandfather's clock
we were there swinging to and fro
it was complicated and we discussed to simplify
what was complicated that we made
so complicated.
we planted such simple seeds on the ground
time made it grow
into a vine. A squash seed growing into a crown.
A tree. A pole. A merry-go-round. A funeral.
A coffin, a carriage. A wreath.
Then back to the crown, and laurels, and trumpets.

you like a simple life, but there isn't baby.
you said you do not want to complicate.
But life has become so sophisticated and
Cannot confront simplicity with a short, concise smile.
There are tears. Rivers of tears.

You shy aways from convolutions.
But life is convoluted baby. The turbulence within that you
Refuse to state with dignity.
The storms raging inside us.
They shake us and we pretend there is none to speak?

What a mess! What a life!
Repeat it. What a life I have!

I am merry. I am happy. I am whistling. I am singing. I am dancing.
You are the newly crowned fool

She was a complicated woman

She was a complicated woman
Emotions led her here
She loved her cats and nature
She loved to feed the deer.
She loved to play the piano
She loved to watch TV
She loved to sit around the house
She loved to talk to me

She was a complicated woman
Her anger could get mean
Her emails could get nasty
As mean as you've ever seen

She was a complicated woman
The best friend that she could be
Always there to listen
Always there for me
If you needed help you asked her
It didn't matter the task
She lived to make you happy
A smile was her mask

She was a complicated woman
So sad and so alone
She'd hide her heart and feelings
She'd turn it into stone
Why she couldn't find love
Is a mystery unto me
Her stone would turn to acid

My Mirror

The mirror and I have this relationship
complicated as can be;
sometimes my shadow it is
non-consequential.
But other times I gaze
for minutes on end
to see which me
lives there
gazing back at me.

Sometimes I wince
touching the tiny scratches
to see
if they are in the mirror
or in my skin.

I've looked naked into it
turning slowly
front back
and sideways
using my critical eye;
not so bad here
gravity winning there.

I have this relationship
with my mirror
complicated it seems.

But it lights up times
when I suddenly
feel your arm
at my shoulder's edge;

when your light
shines in my mirror's eye.

I want to keep you there
for this
and many years.

I have had this complicated relationship
with my mirror

by you and all these
many years.

Complicated Life

Well I woke this morning with a pain in my neck,
A pain in my heart and a pain in my chest,
I went to the good doctor and the good doctor said,
You gotta slow down your life or youre gonna be dead,
Cut out the struggle and strife,
It only complicates your life.
Well I cut down women I cut out booze,
I stopped ironing my shirts, cleaning my shoes,
I stopped going to work, reading the news,
Im sitting twiddling my thumbs cos I got nothing to do,
Minimal exercise,
To help uncomplicate my life,
Gotta stand and face it life is so complicated,
Ladi dah di dahdah, ladi dah di dah dah,
Got to get away from the complicated life son,
Life is overated, life is complicated,
Must aleviate this, complicated life.

I got nothin in the cupboard,
Got no dinner and I got no supper,

Simply Complicated

When you find out things about yourself
that you hadn't thought to know.
When your grandma calls
and books you on the Jerry Springer show.
And you find out you and your wife for ten years,
just might be related
Brother, life's not over,
it's just simply complicated.
There's other situations
that might challenge you, I guess
When your daughter tries out for the footbal team
and your son tries on her dress
And you start to think that the devil's in charge
of how you're situated.
Life is still worth livin
It's just simply complicated.
Life is complicated with its
ifs and ands and buts.
It's alright to be crazy,
just don't let it drive you nuts!
My daughter wants to go on dates,
I think I'll let her go.
But she better not be movin'
at the movin' picture show.
Her stops by all those honky tonks
and getin' aviated
aint it all a caution?
Its just simply complicated.
Now I'm havin a big problem
with my present-day career
My ship, she has a rudder
but I don't know where to steer.
Am I country, pop or rock-and-roll?
I know they are related.
I'll just let you be the judge.
