Before Christmas Day
you ask someone to be with you
you make a call
on that busy and lighted street
despite the traffic
and the honking sounds and the
people walking fast
you feel so alone
no one is available
and you understand
you have no choice but to
dance loneliness away
you cross the street
not minding whether you will
be hit by one of those sane cars
and the finger of the driver
gives you the f sign
and then you smile in return
it is a happy world you
have there
and they begin to think too
otherwise

Shed
I'm like a freight train feelin' no pain
I never turn back one track
Better step aside
Like a shotgun
I'm really someone
You'll feel my heatwave
Won't save anyone near to me
I'm steel
So come and try to bend me if you can, hah
I don't feel
Before you know it it's over
Get out of my way
I'm street walking, street walking
Night stalking, i'm street walking
No reputation
You better quick run
Cause i got no time i'll climb all over you
You need a strong hand
To be a mean man
You've got to think fast
I'll last longer than you could know
I'm steel
So won't you come and try to bend me if you can
I don't feel
Before you know it it's over
Out of my way
I'm street walking
Hey, i'm a wild cat
Don't need to prove that
I'm always howlin' prowlin'
Stalkin' my prey
It could be your night
To feel the dog bite
And hear the slashing, crashin'
Tearin' inside of you
I'm steel
So come and try to break me if you can, no way
Like a wheel
About to roll you over
Get out of my way
I'm street walkin', street walkin'
No talkin', street walking
Night stalking, street walking
No talkin', i'm street walkin', yeah
Street walkin', street walkin'
Night stalking, street walking

The Daffy Duck
A daffy duck stood in the middle of the road.
She wasn't in a rush, so her time she took.
The approaching lorry driver wasn't happy,
And his angry fist at her he shook!
She soon became the main attraction.
People tried chasing her out of the way.
Soon, she was back on the pavement,
And was now safe and well again. Yay!
But people were walking towards her,
And, of the crowds, she was very scared,
So she ran back into the road again,
And at her, the next approaching driver glared!
She ran around in a blind panic,
Not knowing which way to go.
In and out of the road she ran,
Dashing this way and that, to and fro.
She halted all the traffic.
The wrong turn she'd taken by mistake.
I wished that I could catch her
And reunite her with her waiting drake.
The last sighting I had of her,
She was running off up the High Street,
As fast as her little legs could carry her,
And, boy, how fast could she move those feet!

Smile.
Smile because someone made you happy.
Even if you might feel crappie.
You might be surprised to find, just smiling could make you feel better.
Smile walking down the street.
Smile to every stranger that you greet.
Your smile might just brighten there day.
People take for granted there ability to smile.
They hide it away, like a lost file.
Just never forget, a smile.
A smile, is always in style.

Long Way Home Long Way Home
Walking down an alien street a miserable day in February,
thought he was dreaming asked what am I doing here.
The buildings and people are not as he remembered as
a child. He tried to cross the street but cars kept coming.
A woman took his arm and helped him to cross.
They told him he had lived here for twenty years but
told him in English as he didn't understand the language
these strange people spoke. Tired he sat down at
pavement café, a man asked him what he wanted… he didn't
now so the kind man brought him coffee.
I must find my way home, he said to himself, but I don't know
where it is. Then he remembered that his mother was dead,
he had been asleep, and as he slept the world changed and
he was lost in a future that was not his.

Bus ride at night
At quarter to five
the driver refuses,
that I get on a bus
in Burnett street
because it is already full.
There are men, woman and children
and we talk various languages
while we wait for the bus
and I see a car guard
dancing in the street
while he does tricks like a clown.
We wait on the next bus
and the afternoon passes
and the bus is very late
and it stays away
and just Putco and North Star busses
stop at other places.
At dusk the bus appears
and it’s got a double deck,
but is also full
and on the top level the roof is so low
that I bump my head
while it draws from the curb.
There’s no place to sit down
before we travel halfway to the city
and there’s a crowd of people around me
and we sit tight against each other
and in the front a child is holding onto a bar
while she licks the window with her tongue
and try to draw spit lines.
The bus braids through cars,
but it takes longer than an hour
to ride two stages
and a woman calls her husband
to pick her up at church square.
In Visagie Street the cars stand in a traffic jam
and it becomes night
while we wait in the traffic
and I embark from the bus
and twist through the pedestrians
and everywhere there are people
that stand in dark corners
and alleyways
and shout at each other in foreign languages.
At Church square I see stars in the sky,
but uncle Paul looks friendly
while the lights
of a few cars passes by
and I see how his men
are protecting him
and there’s nobody else in the street
and I wonder what to do
if the last bus has already left.
I wait at night at a bus stop
and an old black man
comes and stand near me
and we are both glad,
to catch a ride
on the last bus.
The bus is lighted brightly
And it’s comfortable and hot inside
and I see the zoo passing by
just before the bus stops for me
and red lights
disappears in the distance
and the evening wind tugs at my jacket,
but my house is near.

Love Out In The Street
(carly simon)
Ive seen the sidewalks
And Ive been aware
Of the lamps and tables and the paperback books
That you throw out there
All your artifacts
In disrepair
Make up a pile so high
Could tie up the traffic in the thoroughfare
Put your love out on the street
Put your love out on the street
Put your love out on the street
Put your love out on the street tonight
I dont mind your sinning
Im no saint myself
And if the neighbours call you a hellcat
Then let them call me a jezebel
Cause Ive come to know you
Ive come to know you so well
>from spying on you from my bathroom window
In this cheap hotel
So let flow the hydrants
And well dance in the spray
And well wash out our dirty laundry
In the alleyway

Set Me Free
(ransford)
Walking down the street
Standing looking at me
If you dont wanna know me
How happy I will be
Dont cross over the street to me
If you dont want my love
Set me free
I see you walking by
Love light in your eye
I just remember all those lies
So dont cross over the street to me
If you dont want my love set me free
Baby cant you leave me alone
Baby why dont you go on home
Baby dont you know that we are through
I dont need your love so set me free
Why dont you realise
That you and I are through
Every day I see you make me blue
So dont cross over the street to me
If you dont want my love set me free
If you dont want my love set me free
If you dont want my love set me free

Just A Moment
at the busy crossroad
the traffic jam
is complete
all roads crowded
all kinds of vehicles
have to stop
while their futile waiting time
disappears in stress
a cacophony of people
just talking about
them selves
complaining
about their situation
overpowering the impatient honking
of other drivers
still in their cars
in the queue
what should I do
secure the door
wait and watch the scenery
from my point of view
the intimacy
of the space
I feel is my own
or
open the window
and become a part
of the cram
hearing different sounds
creating
another way
homeward bound

my Hijab
I don’t understand why people are attacking me on what I chose to wear
I guess all those people want me to do is to show my hair
But it is my choice and they have no right to interfere
But they make it their business to do so whenever I am near
If they could understand that this is my choice and I believe that it is right
To wear my hijab, to keep out of sight
In that way I am safe from all those people out there
Since I have nothing to show for them to desirably stare
I am satisfied with what I’m doing since it satisfies God as well
And whenever I put the hijab on I feel safe in God’s secured shell
So stop attacking me
On whom I chose to be
By wearing my hijab I am with no doubt free from all the bad
And this is what certainly drives people mad
But I’m not going to take it off just to satisfy and please the people out there
So don’t waste your time insulting me since I won’t even care
I don’t see myself free when exposing myself while walking on the street
But walking fully covered with nothing to see and take advantage of, I feel complete
My hijab grants me respect for myself and from others too
It is hijab, something that has changed my life all the way through
This is my hijab and this is me
This is who I chose to be
By wearing this hijab I want you to see
That I am for eternity, undoubtedly free…

Skull Ring
(feat. The Stooges)
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Money
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Fancy things
The touch of a hand in the wasteland
you're walking asleep and dreaming cheap
A bird's wing don't beat for free
You're freezing cold and your family
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Money
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Fancy things
Fingers on fire to do what's bad
Ring on the finger is a skull man
Strong as a bar of steel
Weakness is that you can't feel
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Money
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Fancy things
My life is dirtied, my mind is loaded
I'm feeling and breathing and fighting
To see
People get ready now
Baby come on give your heart to me
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Money
Skull rings
Fast cars
Hot chicks
Fancy things

This Sweet Street
Walking down a street
Happy people I meet
Oh see the colours and smiles
See the sun shining for miles
The houses are small but neat
On this content street
I see the families so close
‘Look at our street’ the people boast
So look and you will see
Even if you are blind to life like me
For I shall tell you what I saw
In that perfect streets outer core
I saw the money passed underhand
I saw people owning stolen land
I saw the children chased off this street
Into the wild just to keep this street petite
I saw the brother’s unclean kill
Just for the money in their cousins will
I saw the father have a secret affair
And the mother, well there is a perfect pair
So see with your own eyes
Don’t always believe possible lies
Don’t be led around blind
Or this world will stab you from behind

Dead End Street
Theres a crack up in the ceiling,
And the kitchen sink is leaking.
Out of work and got no money,
A sunday joint of bread and honey.
What are we living for?
Two-roomed apartment on the second floor.
No money coming in,
The rent collectors knocking, trying to get in.
We are strictly second class,
We dont understand,
(dead end!)
Why we should be on dead end street.
(dead end!)
People are living on dead end street.
(dead end!)
Gonna die on dead end street.
Dead end street (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
On a cold and frosty morning,
Wipe my eyes and stop me yawning.
And my feet are nearly frozen,
Boil the tea and put some toast on.
What are we living for?
Two-roomed apartment on the second floor.
No chance to emigrate,
Im deep in debt and now its much too late.
We both want to work so hard,
We cant get the chance,
(dead end!)
People live on dead end street.
(dead end!)
People are dying on dead end street.
(dead end!)
Gonna die on dead end street.
Dead end street (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
(dead end!)
People live on dead end street.
(dead end!)
People are dying on dead end street.
(dead end!)
Gonna die on dead end street.
Dead end street (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
Head to my feet (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
Hows it feel? (yeah)
Hows it feel? (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)
Dead end street (yeah)

If I Could Make The World Dance
Ba-da, ba-da (whoa)
Ba-da, ba-da (whoa)
Ba-da, ba-da (whoa)
Bu-da (you)
Bu-da, bu-da (whoa)
Bu-da, bu-da (whoa)
Bu-da, bu-da (whoa) (you)
Signs and wonders that the television shows (whoa)
Hate and poverty for the more, lets me know (you... you)
That life is a stage and we're all in the show (you, you)
Starring the World, 'cause we all glow
(Heaven I'm calling, heaven I'm calling)
If we just give each other a chance
(Heaven I'm calling, heaven I'm calling)
We might just fall in love
Picture us (in a land)
Where there's no more (no more war)
Shaking hands with my (brother)
And respecting my, my, my (my sisters)
(I'm offering) a dance that heals (ooh)
(A melody) you can feel (ooh)
Love is the key (whoa)
All it takes is you and me (whoa, yeah)
If I could make the world dance (whoa if I could make them dance)
Then they would dance (dance) something like this (like, whoa)
If I could make the world groove (whoa if I could make them groove)
Then they would groove something like this (doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo)
If I could make the world sing (whoa if I could make them sing)
Then they would sing something like this
If I could make the world love (if I could make them love, if I could make the love one another)
Then it would feel something like this (yeah)
Tell me why can't more hungry people overcome (why?)
When they've got the means to build bombs, yeah (oh)
We're so quick to say God Bless America (da-da-da-da)
But take away In God We Trust (da-da-da-da)
Tell me what the hell is wrong with us?
(Heaven I'm calling, heaven I'm calling)
If we just give each other a chance then
(Heaven I'm calling, heaven I'm calling)
We might just fall in love
Picture us (in a land)
Where there's no more (no more war)
Shaking hands with my (brothers)
And respecting my, my, my (sisters)
I'm offering (I'm offering) a dance that heals
(A melody) you can feel
Love is the key
All it takes is you and me (whoa, yeah)
If I could make the world dance (whoa if I could make them dance)
Then they would dance (dance yeah) something like this (if I, oh)
If I could make the world groove (whoa if I could make them groove)
Then they would groove something like this (too-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo)
If I could make the world sing (whoa if I could make them sing)
Then they would sing something like this (whoa if I could make the world)
If I could make the world love I would make them love
Then it would feel something like this (yeah)
Happy people baby
Dance with me mama (come on)
Dance with me mama (yeah)
Dance with me mama (oh)
Dance with me mama (come on and)
Dance with me mama (dance with me)
Dance with me mama (oh)
Dance with me mama (come on)
Dance with me mama
Dance with me mama
Dance with me mama (whoa)
Dance with me mama (come on)
Dance with me mama (dance)
People (there's got to be) there's got to be
(A place we can go) a place that we can go
And dance out the day
So meet me at the
Spot that we used to go
And just step the night away
Please let's just rewind time
And go back because I miss those days
If I could make the world dance (whoa if I could make them dance)
Then they would dance (dance) something like this (yeah)
If I could make the world groove (whoa if I could make them groove)
Then they would groove something like this
If I could make the world sing (whoa if I could make them sing)
Then they would sing just like this (if I could)
If I could make 'em love (I surely would, I surely would) then I would make 'em love one another
Then it would feel something like this, ohh
If I could make the world (if I)
If I could make the world (could make)
If I could make the world (the world)
If I could make the world (I) (oh if I)
If I could make the world (I) (oh if I)
If I could make the world (could make) (ohh)
If I could make the world (the world)
If I could make the world (if I could make the world)
If I could make the world (if I)
If I could make the world (could make)
Chocolate Factory
If I could make the world dance
I truly would
Marvin Gaye inspired me to write that one y'all
Just as Frankie Beverley inspired me to write 'Love Street'
You know every day is a special occasion y'all
You know why? 'Cause you woke up this morning

The Streets
Understand me now, how I arrange my life,
Why do I limp and clumsily speak to the only people
On the street?
The street is a wedding with the busy,
The street works wonders on the rich, as
Fame is a delivery to the weak,
When the streets look at you!
Shops are crowded now, when I know how to buy
The rude works!
Understand the religion of the streets,
As we entertain the living, the steering is unique.

The Tables Turned
Over the man the street car ran,
And the driver did never grin.
'O killer of men, pray tell me when
Your laughter means to begin.
'Ten years to a day I've observed you slay,
And I never have missed before
Your jubilant peals as your crunching wheels
Were spattered with human gore.
'Why is it, my boy, that you smother your joy,
And why do you make no sign
Of the merry mind that is dancing behind
A solemner face than mine?'
The driver replied: 'I would laugh till I cried
If I had bisected you;
But I'd like to explain, if I can for the pain,
'T is myself that I've cut in two.'

Dance, Dance, Dance, 'til You Can Dance No More
As I drove 'cross town today
To get my Holiday shopping under way
With my car radio tuned in
Classic Rock - - let the dance begin
On comes a Don Henley from 1985
- -'All She Wants to Do Is Dance'- -
Up comes the volume
Down comes all four car windows
Take that you hip-hoppers
Wish I had my old speakers
From my '66 Malibu
Then the lyrics struck me
Maybe I've been watchin'
Too many presidental debates
Maybe just too much CNN
Twenty-four hours a day
I have no idea if this is what
Henley was trying to say
But given the state of America's
Foreign and energy policies
Our refusal to sign
The Kyoto Protocol
Ratified by 170 other countries
To reduce greehouse gases
And our nonplused reaction to that
And the six-year Iraq War
THE IRAQ WAR - -? ? ?
It's our war
Bought and
Paid for
Its cost to date in U.S. dollars
If relevant to you $469,509,480,910
U.S. troups dead
A very relevant 3,865
I said I'm no sure who Henley
Had on his mind
When he wrote and sang
'All she wants to do is dance'
All I could see in my minds eye
As I drove on
Was my Uncle Sam in a dress
Dancing and wantin' to party
Thats' what Don's song was saying to me
War's in a Surge mode
Demos first 100 days
Are long gone
'And all she wants to do is dance
Rebels being rebels
Since I don't know when
And all she wants to do is dance
Molotov cocktails the local drink
They make 'em up right
In the kitchen sink
Carzy people walkin' 'round with blood in their eyes
And all she wants to do
is dance, dance, dance'
We're busy getting ready
To dance through the Holidays
Macy's and Wall Mart
Already playing Siren's song
And all we want to do is dance
'Never mind the heat
Comin' off the street'
All we want to do is dance
And make romance
We want to party
How did Don know
He'd make me pull over
Park my car and listen
To his refrian
And suddenly
Not feel like dancing

Gumboots
I was having this discussion
In a taxi heading downtown
Rearranging my position
On this friend of mine who had
A little bit of a breakdown
I said breakdowns come
And breakdowns go
So what are you going to do about it
Thats what Id like to know
You dont feel you could love me
But I feel you could
It was in the early morning hours
When I fell into a phone call
Believing I had supernatural powers
I slammed into a brick wall
I said hey, is this my problem?
Is this my fault?
If thats the way its going to be
Im going to call the whole thing to a halt
You dont feel you could love me
But I feel you could
You dont feel you could love me
But I feel you could
I was walking down the street
When I thought I heard this voice say
Say, aint we walking down the same street together
On the very same day
I said hey senorita thats astute
I said why dont we get together
And call ourselves an institute
You dont feel you could love me
But I feel you could
You dont feel you could love me
But I feel you could
