The Tallest Tree in the Forest

Cedar forest rings my humble abode
Giants swaying in an angry wind
Rain clouds loose their watery load
Their nature is to be undisciplined

How am I to know my verdant friends
Standing here below on forest floor
While most of what is seen ascends
But for a better view I shall explore

My search begins to find the tallest tree
The one most eager to kiss a rising Sun
The climb nearly takes the best of me
Reaching highest bow I sit in adoration

From high above an endless sea of olivine
Until now…an arboreal family gone unseen

Lonely Tree

A lonely tree
On a lonely hill
Wishes to be
A forest still
Thou all alone
It dreams of more
Of seedlings grown
From its forest floor
Their branches growing
Ever climbing high
So feverish flowing
To reach blue sky
Covering this land
Beyond its view
A forest grand
All fresh and new
A sight to behold
It would surely be
A dream so bold
For such a lonely tree.
“closing thought”
A family is like a forest that continues to grow
From a lone simple seedling it outwardly flows

Tree Climbing

When I was 6 years of age,
I would go tree climbing all through the day.
My older brother would say to his friends,
“My sister Suzy can climb highest, you want to bet? ”
I would then look up at the tallest tree,
I knew I could make it without falling on my knee.
Yes, I would go straight to the top,
the top of the highest tree and then I’ld stop,
I would look down to see the world,
I was the happiest little girl.
All the trees where close together,
I felt like a bird with a lot of feathers.
I had made it to where the birds do roam,
I was at the top of the tower at my throne.
This reminds me of “Rising of the Planet of the Apes,
When Cornelius was happy to escape.
Climbing the tallest tree,
watching him brought back memories.
Memories of my tree climbing days,
I will always remember it in a special kind of way.

And When He Smiles

(from live at bbc, 1971)
And when he smiles he makes the sun shine
He wouldnt think to make it rain
Happiness runs in the family
And hes a boy from the good old earth and the high tree forest
And hes just about the happiest boy that I ever knew
And when he smiles he makes me sigh
He doesnt have a point of view
Happiness runs in the family
And hes a boy from the good old earth and the high tree forest
And hes just about the happiest boy that I ever knew
And when he smiles he makes the sun shine
And warms the day with morning dew
Happiness runs in the family
And hes a boy from the good old earth and the high tree forest
And hes just about the happiest boy that I ever knew
And hes just about the happiest boy that I ever knew

Rainforest

(Sonnet To Tree Lovers)

How beautiful this place, we named “Cedar Haven”
Nestled in the foothills, on west slope of Mt Hood
A place inhabited by bear, deer, coyote and raven
A place where stands of old growth fir once stood

Should rain, wind or flood, dare come our way
Towering cedar trees surround, protect this land
Silent giants shade below, as happy children play
Come and gone, a hundred generations spanned

Rainforest undisturbed, forever does renew
Contributing to Earth’s health and balance
Reaching for the Sun, through skies of blue
Filters air we breathe, then oxygen enhanced

Protect forest land; take not trees for granted
Rewards abound for every seedling planted

The Climb

Step by step
I've come closer to reaching the top
Every step must be placed so that I don't fall off
Looking down to see about how much higher I am
Another cool wind comes through and brushes my skin
The harder I push the tension does grow
I gather my thoughts the further and further I go
With some luck I just might keep on climbing
So better to climb than to face a fall
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
So high the climb Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds

Pulling myself up by a rope
I better my view
The only thing in sight is what I must do
As I turned I could see myself falling
Which in return save me strength for the climb

So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds

Although many failed I must now prevail with no question
Have no time to stop
Onward to the top of the mountain
And I can't turn back now
Its so very high but I can't turn back now
If I keep it up

Big Tree

Big tree
Standing tall
Against setting sun
Majestic silhouette
Geometer's delight
Deep rooted trunk
Branches reaching the sky
Tree depicts life...

Every leaf
Shape so unique
Defining tree family...
Magical colors applied
By Creator's bold strokes
With the brush of seasons
Amazing panorama spreads out
Everywhere and all around.

Flowers spring out
Beauty and fragrance
Magical transformation
Into fruits
Nature transports seeds
To far off lands
It's a new cycle
Trees..forest...life.

Big tree
Stands still
Stands waving
I keep watching
Its far reaching ways
Tree gives us life
Tree gives us shade
To rest and contemplate.

Friends of the Forest (Memories of Clayoquot)

A small band of protesters
gathered in the forest.
Together their voices growing,
rising on the wind.
A Chorus.

'Stop cutting the tree's'
they cry.
'Stop raping the land.
Our Mother Earth gives us life,
touch her with a gentle hand.'

No Help
from government officials.
'Just pass the tax.' they say.
And the workers in the forest
don't want to find another pay.

So the Friends of the Forest
take a stand to show us how
the power of our words and actions
can start a change
here and now.

The future's in our human hand.
Reuse the trees.
Replant the land.
Show the world a better way
as the forest's guardian.

We are God's
each of us
in a small way,
creators of a future world
with each choice we make today.

Cedar And Fir Tree Lovers

During a spring day walk through a primeval rain forest,
We encountered on a steep hillside two old growth trees,
One a Western Red Cedar the other a Douglas Fir.
Incredibly the two giants seemed joined together near ground level.
How could this be?
After all they were of two different species!

Our minds quickly filled with possibilities;
Were they just fused for mutual support?
Were they some kind of cross breed,
If so could they propagate?

We concluded that they were married.
“For better or worse, in sickness or in health”
Unheard wedding vows save for their tall fellows,
Standing silent witness.

We imagined their roots beneath ground,
Forever entwined in lifelong bliss.

We pondered what might happen when age and disease,
Toppled one of these magnificent lovers?
Would the other grieve?
Would the surviving lover stand witness…
As flora and fauna lay claim to the bountiful offering,
Of the fallen giant sacrificed to them?

Would the surviving lover wither and die or choose life?

We then realized that diversity, cooperation, and love are
Earthly traits celebrated by all living plants and animals.

We left the forest in awe and inspired by,
“The Cedar and Fir Tree Lovers”

Killer Of Giants

If none of us believe in war
Then can you tell me what the weapons for
Listen to me everyone
If the button is pushed
Therell be nowhere to run
Giants sleeping giants winning wars
Within their dreams
Till they wake when its too late
And in gods name blaspheme
Killer of giants threatens us all
Mountains of madness standing so tall
Marches of protest not stopping the war
Or the killer of giants
The killer of giants
Mother nature people state your case without its worth
Your seas run dry your sleepless eyes are turning red alert
Killer of giants threatens us all
Mountains of madness standing so tall
Rising so proudly it has nowhere to fall
This killer of giants
This killer of giants
Killer of giants threatens us all
Mountains of madness standing so tall
Marches of protest not stopping the war
Oh the killer of giants
Oh the killer of giants
Killer of giants
Killer of giants

On Crumpled Things

the brittle piece of chalk
crumples on the floor from the
hands of an angry teacher
her feet stamping upon
us, fragile and no longer
eager to learn
our first view on the violent
nature of those
monsters behaving
like gods

on crumpled things turning
into powder
in the same manner that
bodies turn
to ash
to dust

but must these gods know
inside those crumpled things and bodies
is the air that they have
not seen
the faces of our souls
passing through the storms and rain
rising to find for once
their homes in the sky

A Family Christmas Tree

At Christmas families,
gather around a family Christmas tree
to open gifts of love
each has left there for one another.
The tree sparkles
with lights and coloured tinsel,
while on top there sits an angel
to watch over everyone.
Carefully wrapped presents adorn the floor
around the bottom of the tree.
Each has been wrapped
and sealed with a loving kiss,
one for you and one for me.
Then on Christmas morn
as the dawn breaks the sky
the children climb out of their bed
and tiptoe downstairs to the presents,
getting ready to explore.
Before the day is over
there will be shrills of laughter
and joy ringing out
at all they have received
from beneath a family Christmas tree.

Sunny

In a rainforest lives a girl named 'Sunny'
Lives amongst trees of alder ‘n cedar
A beautiful child, bright and funny
From afar, many come to meet her

Where’s she from you may inquire?
Is she a fairy, gnome or elf?
No, she's a daughter of Mt Hood, born of fire
Should you find her, ask her yourself

What is destined for this wondrous child?
Will she be a healer, mystic, forest queen?
Nay, she’s far too humble and mild
The most perfect child the world’s ever seen

Should you walk Sunny’s forest one fine day
She just may find you and teach you to play!

Lord Of The Storm

Can I walk upon this water
In the midst of this mighty sea
Surely I will stumble, surely I will drown
Oh Lord how can this be

The waves are high and the wind it howls
And the rain it lashes down
Yet you are there, I see you Lord
Now I know I shall not drown

Then the thunder roars and the lightning flashes
High above in the angry skies
Dark clouds rising, set on fire
To them do I lift my eyes

Heavier now the rain is falling
The noise so loud I cannot think
The lightening fractures the sky above
And my legs, they begin to sink

I look around, eyes wide with terror
As all this madness does unfold
I look once more, there, it's Jesus
In the midst of the storm, standing bold

I am your peace when all hell breaks loose
Devils and demons flee
In the storm, in the night, when all breaks down
Remember, keep your eyes upon me.

Carry me on

Carry me on to the forest whose face is
aglow in light.
I put down golden words
in the raptness of lovely green
with pure conviction I see the reflection of every
standing tree on wild streams

Carry me on to the forest with a
moonlight-rinsed face, to the cootage of peace
where every moment is enriched by sweet
chirping of birds
I place the footprints of murderous men
on every humble tree

Carry me on to the depth of dense forests
I plant one tall tree of love-laden heart
on the flowing breast of every travelling river
I tear off fruitless human blandishings

Carry me on to the eternal free forest,
to the erect trees growing in a slope
I look for pollens of every season in
every tree which donot know how to stoop down
I sculpture on every tree symbols of
futile human pride

Carry me on.

Beautiful nature in the forest

Our beatiful nature
as it is full of leisure
it keeps us suuplied with food
and gives us too shelter which is good

our beautiful nature
in the forest the trees swing
while the birds sing
the grass dance at the birds tune
as their moisture will run away so soon

our beautiful nature
as you step inside the forest
i set my foot on the ground to rest
as the forest skin holds my feet
the dew rans way and the grass take a sit

our beautiful nature
i pick out a fruit from a tree
since they are provided for free
i dont even need to bend on to one knee

i relax inside with calm
since the forest has also a natural charm
which will protect me
from any living predators

lastly i came out happily
as i was fed so quickly
which makes me to be taking care of nature
so lets all take care of nature

Papa's lone journey in the mountain

and then he writes in his diary: i was alone in the forest
with my horse, i sleep under a big tree watching the full moon
the wind blows from the sea, far, far away, i lit a cigarette, open
a bottle of wine. It feels like i am a fishing boat in the rain, sailing,
asleep in that long and winding river.
and then the rain begins to fall.

a view of this place that i remember

the back space of this house
used to be a green ricefield
and there was that tall mango tree
where i used to sit underneath
shading me from the scourging sun
i always remember
the view
of the carabaos grazing
with white herons standing on their back
and blue cottony clouds drifting above

the place is now cemented
with a wall as high as three men added-up
high buildings rise from here
reaching the cottony clouds out there

and the river is no longer a hype
but a big silent hard steel pipe.

.
Spring is alive
Spring is alive
In carolina
Deep in the forest
Where the foxfire glows
High on a mountain
Down in a holler
Thunder and lightning
So it goes
Over a hundred years ago
We came to carolina
Far across the water
Its a long hard road
With little more than courage
We came seeking independence
A little less than nothin
Is a heavy load
From the heather of the highlands
We have found the smokie mountains
Hard work and simple ways
And life is good
Life is good
Spring is alive
In carolina
Deep in the forest
Where the foxfire glows
High on a mountain
Down in a holler
Thunder and lightning
So it goes
You are
You are every morning sunrise
You are every rain
You are every peal of laughter
You are every cry of pain
You are all the summer flowers
You are all the falling leaves
You are everyone rejoicing
You are everyone who greaves
You are all my unknown secrets
You are all my hidden fears
You are known in lovers kisses
You are seen in childhood tears
You are where the stars are shining
You are where the rainbow ends
You are why the war is over
You are how the peace begins
Whisper the wind
Whisper the wind over the water
Whisper the wind all through the night
Whisper the wind along the canyon
Whisper the wind into the night
Whisper the wind brothers and sisters
Whisper the wind all the same
Whisper the wind love one another
Whisper the wind your precious name
Spring is alive (reprise)
Spring is alive
In carolina
Deep in the forest
Where the foxfire glows
High on a mountain
Down in a holler

Hurricane Irene...New York

Mother earth silently awaits, dumb, rising with fear,
Seeing the speed raging, writhing in anger as it nears.
The dark clouds dims the golden blaze so unseen.
The echoing howling voice of the hurricane so mean.
Dismayed, prepares to meet the wild cruel whirling,
As the world braces through the gloomy warning.
Oceans restless, unkind and the river overflows,
Giants of air swaying the trees with many blows.
Uplifts trees, crashing windows, lines so coldly...
Sending shivers down the spine battering boldly,
And lo! Behold the shattering winds, the heavy gales,
The insensitive hurricane strong, never ever fails;
Charioted by the wind reaching out for more.
Leaving behind memories ugly, that none can restore..
