The Bride
The book was dull, its pictures
As leaden as its lore,
But one glad, happy picture
Made up for all and more:
'Twas that of you, sweet peasant,
Beside your grannie's door --
I never stopped so startled
Inside a book before.
Just so had I sat spell-bound,
Quite still with staring eyes,
If some great shiny hoopoe
Or moth of song-bird size
Had drifted to my window
And trailed its fineries --
Just so had I been startled,
Spelled with the same surprise.
It pictured you when springtime
In part had given place
But not surrendered wholly
To summer in your face;
When still your slender body
Was all a childish grace
Though woman's richest glories
Were building there apace.
'Twas blissful so to see you,
Yet not without a sigh
I dwelt upon the people
Who saw you not as I,
But in your living sweetness,
Beneath your native sky;
Ah, bliss to be the people
When you went tripping by!
I sat there, thinking, wondering,
Abut your life and home,
The happy days behind you,
The happy days to come,
Your grannie in her corner,
Upstairs the little room
Where you wake up each morning
To dream all day -- of Whom?
That ring upon your finger,
Who gave you that to wear?
What blushing smith or farm lad
Came stammering at your ear
A million-time-told story
No maid but burns to hear,
And went about his labours
Delighting in his dear!
I thought of you sweet lovers,
The things you say and do,
The pouts and tears and partings
And swearings to be true,
The kissings in the barley --
You brazens, both of you!
I nearly burst out crying
With thinking of you two.
It put me in a frenzy
Of pleasure nearly pain,
A host of blurry faces
'Gan shaping in my brain,
I shut my eyes to see them
Come forward clear and plain,
I saw them come full flower,
And blur and fade again.
One moment so I saw them,
One sovereign moment so,
A host of girlish faces
All happy and aglow
With Life and Love it dealt them
Before it laid them low
A hundred years, a thousand,
Ten thousand years ago.
One moment so I saw them
Come back with time full tide,
The host of girls, your grannies,
Who lived and loved and died
To give your mouth its beauty,
Your soul its gentle pride,
Who wrestled with the ages
To give the world a bride.

Happily
Tonight is the mother of all nights
The newlywed couple is about to sail
To glide under the blue lights
The room is full of perfumes and cocktails
Classy Jazz music is playing all right
Unfortunate, this scene is not for sale
Jasmine flowers are scattered all over the bed
They happily consume their love with great
Both were happy
It’s ended
Not too early
And not too late
The feeling was so jaded
Incredibly fascinated
A happy scene like this
Should be sealed with a kiss
A man has been imprisoned
For 15 years
For killing his wife
For the first time in his prison's life
Visited by his five children
Ageing face full of tears
Could not pictured his happiness
The happiest moment
A man could ever wishes
It was spoken
All those years that was amissed
Should be redeem with a token
Of love
No matter how devastating
No matter how intriguing
Was the crime
To bring back all the saddest time
Is not an option
Set aside our emotion
Let’s forgive and be forgiven
Be happy for a moment
I am happy
To see all human race are in unity
No war and no killing spree
Remember we live in this world temporarily
So let’s live in harmony
Leading life peacefully
When was the last time you was happy
Think about it thoroughly
Then only you will know the true meaning of happy
Don’t feel sorry
For not being happy
Sensibly we need to study
The right definition of happiness and happy
How happy is happy?
A person is happy
When most of his life he was happy

Happy Birthday
You know it doesnt make much sense
There ought to be a law against
Anyone who takes offense
At a day in your celebration
cause we all know in our minds
That there ought to be a time
That we can set aside
To show just how much we love you
And Im sure you would agree
It couldnt fit more perfectly
Than to have a world party on the day you came to be
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
I just never understood
How a man who died for good
Could not have a day that would
Be set aside for his recognition
Because it should never be
Just because some cannot see
The dream as clear as he
That they should make it become an illusion
And we all know everything
That he stood for time will bring
For in peace our hearts will sing
Thanks to martin luther king
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Why has there never been a holiday
Where peace is celebrated
All throughout the world
The time is overdue
For people like me and you
Who know the way to truth
Is love and unity to all gods children
It should never be a great event
And the whole day should be spent
In full remembrance
Of those who lived and died for the oneness of all people
So let us all begin
We know that love can win
Let it out dont hold it in
Sing it loud as you can
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Ooh yeah
Happy birthday...
We know the key to unify all people
Is in the dream that you had so long ago
That lives in all of the hearts of people
That believe in unity
Well make the dream become a reality
I know we will
Because our hearts tell us so

I'm So Happy
(brenda russel/a. rich/chris difford)
What a sweet surprise
Can't believe my eyes
This has really made my day
It's so out of the blue
Runnin' in to you
That i just don't know what to say
It's so hard to forget the last time we met
How everything just went so wrong
I'm so happy to see you again
I'm so happy to see you again, yeah
Haven't been so happy
Since i don't know when to see you again
It does my heart good
Oh, you know i could
Just break down and cry
Always felt so bad
It still makes me sad for the way we said goodbye
Oh, but seeing you here brings it back so clear
We've been apart for too long
I'm so happy to see you again
I'm so happy to see you again, yeah
Haven't been so happy
Since i don't know when to see you again
I'm so happy now
But has another found a love that i let down
Love failed to recognize
And if you're still all alone
Well baby, come back home
And let's give it one more try
I'm so happy to see you again
I'm so happy to see you again, yeah
Haven't been so happy
Since i don't know, i don't know when to see you again
Ooh i'm so happy now
I'm so aah-aah-aah-aah-
I don't know when to see you again
To say it boy, you know, you know i'm so happy now
I'm so aah-aah-aah-aah-
I don't know when to see you again
Yeah, i'm so happy now

Looking For You
I've waited so long now
I've wanted forever to hold you
Now you're in my arms
And I'll never let you go
Whatever you do, y'know
I'll be standing here beside you baby
Just like a bird that's find it's way back home
I've finally found a place where I belong
I've been looking for you since I took my first breath
And I'll be loving you baby til I take my last
I'd like to know
What would I do without you in my life
From the moment I saw you I knew
I was looking for you
Can I wake up now
Can I believe what I'm feeling
And I'll be sure I wasn't dreaming it all
Baby it's true, you do
Something supernatural to me
Each night I pray to God that you'll be blessed
I need you so much baby I confess
I've been looking for you since I took my first breath
And I'll be loving you baby til I take my last
I'd like to know
What would I do without you in my life
All along I was waiting for you
From the moment I saw you I knew
It had to be you
So the story goes
Together ever after
Now the dream came true
And maybe when you least expect it love will come to you
I'd like to know what would I do without you in my life
All along I was waiting for you
From the moment I saw you I knew
It had to be you
Sweet love came to my life
I was looking for you
Sweet love came to my life
I was looking for looking for you
Sweet love came to my life
I was thining about you
Sweet love came to my life
All along I was looking for you
Sweet love came to my life
I was thining about you
Sweet love came to my life
I was thinking about you
Sweet love came to my life
I was thinking about you
Sweet love came to my life
From the moment I saw you I knew
Sweet love came to my life
Looking for you
Sweet love came to my life
I was looking for you
Sweet love came to my life
I was thinking about you

The Death Of The Rose
Ah! life, dear life, thy summer days have flown
Swiftly yet all too late, for they did wither.
Joy should be joy for one short hour alone,
Or it will lose its loveliness for ever.
I did not spare to use the cruel knife,
But cut the rose as soon as it was day,
And gave it to my love. Its little life
Passed, like a sigh, from Nature's breast away.
Full--hearted flower, thou didst not shrink nor flee
When the steel touched thee. No sad memories
Made what thou knew not terrible to thee,
And death came on thee like a sad surprise.
Too happy flower! I would my love had died
At unawares, by such a death as thine.
I should have slain my love in its full pride,
So had it lived and been for ever mine,
A treasure for all joy to ponder on,
Laid up for aye in old Time's palaces,
A ``thing of beauty'' which my soul had won,
And death had made undying with a kiss.

The Old Man's Saddest Story
We sat about the fireplace listening to the old man's tales
Of the youthful years of life he spent in lovely Alder Vale
He told some happy stories but he told some sad one's too
And the saddest story that he told I will relate to you.
'Twas the story of young Joaney Ryan who died whilst in her prime
When the fruits were ripe for picking in September's harvest time
She died at twenty three years old the valley beauty queen
And a fairer maid since her time the old man has not seen.
She was the most beautiful maid the old man ever knew
With sheeny hair of raven black and sparkling eyes of blue
Yet for all of her splendid beauty she did not show conceit
A better mannered girl than her no man could wish to meet.
Beauty it can take a woman quite a long, long way
But beauty quickly withers like the flowers that bloom in May,
You cannot judge a woman by her beauty or her dress
You can only judge a woman by the manner she possess.
He must have loved this lovely maid he must have loved her so
Who died in September forty six years ago
For as he told her story a tear showed in each eye
And it seemed quite clear to all of us that he was near to cry.
She died in a hospital this lady like woman
From Leuchaemia a disease that greatly curtail life's span
On the tenth day of September her remains were put to earth
Twenty three years and thirty six days from the day of her birth.
In each human's life story there is some share of woe
And the old man's saddest thoughts are of a maid he used to know
Who died of Leuchaemia whilst only in her prime
When the fruits were ripe for picking in September's harvest time.

Epiphany
EPIPHANY
Looking outside I could only see the darkness approach
Looking into my life I could see my own reproach
So I thought by looking into her eyes I would see what I had
For in a moment it would all be lost.
Gone in a second, tossed away, laid to down like the dust on dry lands
I looked to my side one more time
I looked in to her eyes for the very last time.
All I wanted was to see was the beauty inside.
Life was her name, a gift I had
Life was her name, a jewel I took for granted
And there she was flashing before my eyes
I looked into my life and I saw a monster inside
With a gander, I saw the emptiness inside
A sea so great, a cup full to the brim, full of nothing but sweet delights
Delighted in a moment but never satisfied
Delights I deemed the light, pleasures that assured me treasures
But at the end of it all, just another foggy night
So misguided by another mirage in sight
I thought I was safe because I kept running
Running away from the pain and insecurities
I thought I was secure because I felt unassailable
Unassailable because every bottle I popped whispered me hope and every woman on my lap reassured me a magnate
I thought I was untroubled because I was able to grapple
Grapple onto shattered dreams, my own jigsaw that I kept in a box
They told me YOLO, guess I did it well
Lived each moment to the fullest, the best this world to offer
But still my life had no meaning; even the mirror called me a hopeless endeavour.
If this was my last what would be left of my legacy
Empty bottles? Blurry nights? Pretty women under covers?
Surely there had to be more to life
Wish I had seen a life worth living and dying for.

The Ballad of the Rose Trilogy
1st Ballad
A SUMMER'S NIGHT
I will never forget that summer
that summer I fall in love for the first time
it happened after my college graduation
i decided to take a vacation in a mountain
to my aunt's house where i was born.
The first time I saw her, it was in the church
she's so beautiful like an actress I admire
i never stop to glace at her every moment
my heart never stop to beat fast
after that day that i never thought
That I would see her for the second time
in the barangay where i live
in store, where i bought something
as i glance at her, she's mysterious
like Mona Lisa, so i never let her away
Ask her name, her name is Irma
I invite her to dance tonight
a dance to the barangay's fiesta
at first she refuse but i convince her
she agree then she smile at me.
In the eve of the fiesta, the moon is full
I grab her hands, she follow me
i never thought she will dance with grace
as we dance she talk to me,
she no longer mysterious to me
As the dance ends, under moon's light
we went to a solitary place
I never thought this would happen
everything happens so past
we kiss then lay down in a grass
As I enter inside of her, she smile,
the great pain I feel, she stand,
the blood flows, I lose my p***s
it fall in front of me as she opens hers
she look at me and she said,
' Your an idiot, you deserve this
by the way, everything I said to you is lie
i don't live here, i live in hell! '
she laugh i saw here leave
i bathe in blood, i loose my consciousness.
As I wake up, I am in the hospital
I thought it's just a nightmare
but it's true, i have no p***s anymore
as I get better, they ask me, i lie to them
the truth is embarrassing so
It has been a years from now,
I never heard of her again
I am older, I never been married,
I will never ever forget that summer
that summer i fall with a rose with thrones!
2nd Ballad
p.80
Janna,
I just want to thank you!
Thank you being my best friend through all these years.
For being my wife, for loving me all these time.
My love, my heart beat is right...
You are my forevermore.
Remember that first time we meet?
We were young at that time.
How could i forget it was our high school days.
It was in the school canteen
You left your book and I run after you
I never knew the woman I am looking for
Is the most beautiful woman in the campus.
The woman every man could fall in love.
So we became friends and the right time comes,
I tell you the truth, we became lovers
And the day I proposed you...remember that day?
I gave you the sweet red rose,
And I said ' My beautiful Janna, will you marry me? '
I thought I get busted then you said 'Yes.'
I am the happiest man in the world.
My dearest wife, all these years
Though our marriage is not perfect,
You make me happy, you inspire me
Your the best mother to our children
I love you so much.
Janna, as I am writing this letter,
I could not stop to cry
The doctor told me I have Alzheimer's Disease
I know soon will never remember you anymore.
Please don't be sad my love, don't cry on me
Do you remember your favorite book?
I brought for you for the last time
I put it on beneath your cabinet
When you see it, please turn to page 80
Then you'll see the sweet red rose
A rose just like I gave you the day I proposed you
My dearest wife, I love you
One day I will no longer remember you
Please my love, do not sad
Embrace the book I gave you for the last time
And do always remember the rose.
I loved you now... I will love you forever!
Farewell my love... farewell...
Nael.
3rd Ballad
A Love at the End of the World
It is 3: 00 in the afternoon here in Embarcadero
I am still waiting for her come...
I miss her so much, it's been 4 years from now since then
while I am waiting for her, i wanna tell you a story
a story of my life when I was in college
I am lonely man living in a lonely world
Until the time I board to Daraga to focus to my study
I never know my life change forever
I remember one time I am alone up the rooftop
She come there crying, she's drunk
I try to talk to her she replied
Her name is Rose, she's one of my boardmate...
One of my classmate at school
the first time i saw though it's
my heat beats fast, it telling me she's the one...
we became friends until the 4th year
never dared to her the felling inside
until the before gradation I date her
we watched romantic movie and we went to Embarcade
I tell her the truth, she was surprise
she replied, ' If you could wait 4 years then we will be.
Maybe that year, all my dreams already fullfill.'
then I replied, 'I will wait for you. After 4 years here in this place...
At 4: 00 in the afternoon, promise me you would come'
She smile then said, 'Promise.'
It's 4: 15 in the afternoon, I am still waiting for her
now I am hearing someone calling behind my back
I turn around, i see it, i was surprise...
It's her... but she's different now...
she's very, very, very much fat
oh, i hope turn back the clock right now,
but still i am gonna propose to her right
i am already 50 years old... i dont wanna get extinct.

A Moment In A Million Years
Music : klaus meine
Lyrics: klaus meine
The lights are slowly fading down
Theres no one else, just you and me
Nothing ever changed
I see your faces in the crowd
It seems I know each one of you
For all my life
I wish this night could last forever
But its time to go
I saw you laugh, I saw you cry
All for one and one for all
Nothing ever changed
The way you sang just blew my mind
It gave me chills from head to toe
What a glorious night
To me it could have lasted forever
But its time to go
A moment in a million years
Is all Ive got for you
A moment in a million years
To make some dreams come true
A moment that I wont forget
Until the day I die
A moment in a million years
Called life
The bus is waiting right outside
To hit the road and once again
I leave you all behind
I chase another dream tonight
And by the time youll be home
Ill be far away
Nothing seems to last forever
Its time to go
A moment in a million years
Is all Ive got for you
A moment in a million years
To make some dreams come true
A moment that I wont forget
Until the day I die
A moment in a million years
Called life

When I Was A Young Girl
(A Song of Old Ballads)
WHEN I was a young girl, all in a green arbor,
When I was a young girl in Springtimes gone by
All the long days I went singing and smiling,
Down by the roses the sweet days beguiling,
Love in the arbor and love in the sky . . .
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, how happy was I!
Oh, the long days I must sit at my sampler,
Oh, the slow way that the still time would go!
I longed to be running across the bright heather,
'Off with the silk gown and on with the leather,
Following the raggle-taggle gypsies, oh!'
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, a long time ago!
When I was a young girl in days that were golden,
When I was a young girl, and life had no smart,
All the world seemed a place for my playing,
Full of great lovers to come to me, saying,
'Madam, I give you the keys of my heart . . .'
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, and dreaming apart!
When I was a young girl, I dreamed of my lover,
A tall cavalier who should whisper me low,
'Love, on your lips are red roses a-blowing,
I am your true love, and fast is time going
Am I your true love? Oh, say yes or no!'
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl–
When I was a young girl, a long time ago!
When I was a young girl there came my true lover,
Swiftly I knew him in glad days gone by;
Never a sword or a lovelock or feather,
But oh, at his touch 'twas our hearts came together,
Love in the arbor and love in the sky . . .
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, how happy was I!

Forever Mine
The room is dark, all alone am I.
Sitting here thinking of times gone by.
Remembering the past, the way things were.
A different time, when so much was unsure.
During these times, you came to my life.
Bringing happiness and laughter and love into sight.
Never such a feeling had I felt before.
Every moment spent with you, just left me wanting more.
More glances and stares, from your eyes so bright.
Eyes that see deep in my soul, making everything alright.
Wanting more kisses, from your soft lips so sweet.
Lips that make my legs weak and my heart skip a beat.
Wanting more time spent in your loving embrace.
Arms so strong and gentle, such a safe, loving place.
Wanting your warm touch, as you caress all of me.
Such a sensual feeling, setting my body so free.
Here we are, so many years more.
Not much has changed, I just want you even more.
Not a day goes by that I don't give thanks for you.
Every morning I think that our love is like new.
A new beginning. A fresh new start.
A new day to tell you what's deep in my heart.
You've made me feel loved, wanted and adored.
No one could possibly ever love me more.
And now here we are, loving each other from a far.
Waiting for the day, to awake in your arms.
To look upon your face, and deep in your eyes.
Knowing we'll never have to say our good byes.
Until that day comes just know this is true,
Everything I have to give, I have given to you.
I give you my heart, soul, body and mind.
And dream of the day you'll forever be mine.

Happy To Give
I was born a believer, played the fool
Lonely dreamer, left to choose
I dont know where the love is, theres a promise undone
Someones cryin, in a room all alone
Shadows fall, after the hurt is gone
Through it all, we love and we lose
Where is the one, someone whos happy (happy to give)
Happy to be with you, its here you belong, with someone
Whos happy (happy to give) happy to give you love
A song for the singer, one book of dreams
Take this heartache, away from me
A page in a story, romance untold
Sharing secrets, we call, our own
Shadows fall, after the hurt is gone
Through it all, we love and we lose
Where is the one, someone whos happy (happy to give)
Happy to be with you, its where you belong, with someone
Whos happy (happy to give) happy to give you love
Happy, happy, oh happy
(happy to give), oo happy to give
Oh somebodys happy to give you love,
Your love, your love oh yeah

Solatium
Comes the broken flower -
Comes the cheated maid -
Though the tempest lower,
Rain and cloud will fade!
Take, O maid, these posies:
Though thy beauty rare
Shame the blushing roses,
They are passing fair!
Wear the flowers till they fade;
Happy be thy life, O maid!
O'er the season vernal,
Time may cast a shade;
Sunshine, if eternal,
Makes the roses fade:
Time may do his duty;
Let the thief alone -
Winter hath a beauty
That is all his own.
Fairest days are sun and shade:
Happy be thy life, O maid!

Man's Devotion
A lover said, 'O Maiden, love me well,
For I must go away:
And should ANOTHER ever come to tell
Of love--What WILL you say?'
And she let fall a royal robe of hair
That folded on his arm
And made a golden pillow for her there;
Her face--as bright a charm
As ever setting held in kingly crown--
Made answer with a look,
And reading it, the lover bended down,
And, trusting, 'kissed the book.'
He took a fond farewell and went away.
And slow the time went by--
So weary--dreary was it, day by day
To love, and wait, and sigh.
She kissed his pictured face sometimes, and said:
'O Lips, so cold and dumb,
I would that you would tell me, if not dead,
Why, why do you not come?'
The picture, smiling, stared her in the face
Unmoved--e'en with the touch
Of tear-drops--HERS--bejeweling the case--
'Twas plain--she loved him much.
And, thus she grew to think of him as gay
And joyous all the while,
And SHE was sorrowing--'Ah, welladay!'
But pictures ALWAYS smile!
And years--dull years--in dull monotony
As ever went and came,
Still weaving changes on unceasingly,
And changing, changed her name.
Was she untrue?--She oftentimes was glad
And happy as a wife;
But ONE remembrance oftentimes made sad
Her matrimonial life.--
Though its few years were hardly noted, when
Again her path was strown
With thorns--the roses swept away again,
And she again alone!
And then--alas! ah THEN!--her lover came:
'I come to claim you now--
My Darling, for I know you are the same,
And I have kept my vow
Through these long, long, long years, and now no more
Shall we asundered be!'
She staggered back and, sinking to the floor,
Cried in her agony:
'I have been false!' she moaned, '_I_ am not true--
I am not worthy now,
Nor ever can I be a wife to YOU--
For I have broke my vow!'
And as she kneeled there, sobbing at his feet,
He calmly spoke--no sign
Betrayed his inward agony--'I count you meet
To be a wife of mine!'
And raised her up forgiven, though untrue;
As fond he gazed on her,
She sighed,--'SO HAPPY!' And she never knew
HE was a WIDOWER.

Happy Home
In my happy home I barely breathe
In my lovers arms I find relief
And there's a sky that's changing and a bird that sings
I never once in my wayward life was heading to run out
In my lovers arms I wait for morning
I beg my god to speak and tear me apart
I'd lay down my body I'd lay down my arms
I never once in my sweet short life meant anybody harm
In my happy home i read the signs
In my lovers arms I move in time
There's no more crying and there's no more lies
I never once in my sweet short life was waiting for desire
And there's no more crying
And there's no more pain
I never thought for one second I'd have nothing left but shame
In my happy home I barely breathe
I never once in my wayward life was heading to run out

Chris
Dear sweet Chris
With a heart so pure and true
Wishing you were here, so I could dry your tear
As I really do worry and care for you.
Once again as I stare out my window
And sadly I see that you are not there
I wander why not, as you I have sought
So for us I will say another prayer.
It seems as though you should be happy
And you are not meant to be by yourself
And sadly I too, have walked in those shoes
As I wish also, there was someone else.
I want to give you so much tenderness
And the love that only one man can give
So I close my eyes, and I feel you at my side
Maybe you are the reason that I do live.
Though we might be so many miles apart
But in my mind you are next to me
Though I wished that was true, so I could kiss you
And so happy my soul and heart would be.
So when I write, I will write for you
As that brings the joy into my brain
And in my soul, my love for you does flow
And gone is all my sadness and pain.
So once again sadly I will go to sleep
As still thinking something in my life is amiss
But what could it be, that would make me happy
Then I know the answer, it is the sweet loving Chris.

Home, Sweet Home.....
There is no place like home in this world
Home sweet home where I always live so happily
A light from the sky seems to bless us there
and God's love is spread all over there
How happy when you sit with loved ones
and to see their faces full of love smile
How nice to sit near our parents and great parents
and listen to their old stories that bring us lessons too
Our garden full of greenery and the flowers are
bloomed to give us pleasure
All those birds on the trees singing gaily
to give us a peace of mind
Our pets run freely in and out of the house
and keep us busy to watch their naughtiness
When I look at the mountains in their great splendor
that blows with cool breeze that give us healthy life
Our neighbors are dear and so helpful without fear
An exile from home, bring nothing but sadness
Because home is sweet home.

Night After The Picnic
And 'Happy! Happy! Happy!'
Rang the bells of all the hours;
'Shyly! Shyly! Shyly!'
Looked and listened all the flowers;
They were wakened from their slumbers,
By the footsteps of the fair;
And they smiled in their awaking
On the faces gathered there.
'Brightly! Brightly! Brightly!'
Looked the overhanging trees,
For beneath their bending branches
Floated tresses in the breeze.
And they wondered who had wandered
With such voices and so gay;
And their leaflets seemed to whisper
To each other: 'Who are they?'
They were just like little children,
Not a sorrow's shade was there;
And 'Merry! Merry! Merry!'
Rang their laughter thro' the air.
There was not a brow grief-darkened,
Was there there a heart in pain?
But 'Happy! Happy! Happy!'
Came the happy bells' refrain.
When the stately trees were bending
O'er a simple, quiet home,
That looked humble as an altar,
Nestling 'neath a lofty dome;
Thither went they gaily! gaily!
Where their coming was a joy,
Just to pass away together
One long day without alloy.
'Slowly! Slowly! Slowly!'
Melted morning's mist away,
Till the sun, in all its splendor,
Lit the borders of the bay.
'Gladly! Gladly! Gladly!'
Glanced the waters that were gray,
While the wavelets whispered 'Welcome!'
To us all that happy day.
And 'Happy! Happy! Happy!'
Rang the bell in every heart,
And it chimed, 'All day let no one
Think that ye shall ever part.
Go and sip from every moment
Sweets to perfume many years;
Keep your feast, and be too happy
To have thought of any tears.'
There was song with one's soul in it,
And the happy hearts grew still
While they leaned upon the music
Like fair lilies o'er the rill;
Till the notes had softly floated
Into silent seas away
O'er the wavelets, where they listened
While they rocked upon the bay.
And ---- 'Dreamy! Dreamy! Dreamy!'
When the song's sweet life was o'er,
Drooped the eyes that will remember
All its echoes evermore.
And 'Stilly! Stilly! Stilly!'
Beat the hearts of some, I ween,
That can see the unseen mystery
Which a song may strive to screen.
Then 'Gaily! Gaily! Gaily!'
Rang the laughter everywhere,
From the lips that seemed too lightsome
For the sigh of any care.
And the dance went 'Merry! Merry!'
Whilst the feet that tripped along,
Bore the hearts that were as happy
As a wild bird's happy song.
And sweet words with smiles upon them,
Joy-winged, flitted to and fro,
Flushing every face they met with
With the glory of their glow.
Not a brow with cloud upon it --
Not an eye that seemed to know
What a tear is; not a bosom
That had ever nursed a woe.
And how 'Swiftly! Swiftly! Swiftly!'
Like the ripples of a stream,
Did the bright hours chase each other,
Till it all seemed like a dream;
Till it seemed as if no ~Never~
Ever in this world had been,
To o'ercloud the ~brief Forever~,
Shining o'er the happy scene.
Dimly! dimly fell the shadows
Of the tranquil eventide;
But the sound of dance and laughter
Would not die, and had not died;
And still 'Happy! Happy! Happy!'
Rang the voiceless vesper bells
O'er the hearts that were too happy
To remember earth's farewells.
Came the night hours -- faster! faster!
Rose the laughter and the dance,
And the eyes that should look weary
Shone the brighter in their glance:
And they stole from every minute
What no other day could lend --
They were happy! happy! happy!
But the feast must have an end.
'Children, come!' the words were cruel --
'Twas the death sigh of the feast;
And they came, still merry! merry!
At the bidding of the priest,
Who had heard the joy-bells ringing
Round him all the summer day.
'Happy! Happy! Happy! Happy!'
Did he hear an angel say?
'Happy! happy! still more happy!
Yea, the happiest are they.
I was moving 'mid the children
By the borders of the bay,
And I bring to God no record
Of a single sin this day.
'Happy! Happy! Happy!'
When your life seems lone and long,
You will hear that feast's bells ringing
Far and faintly thro' my song.
