The First Time

We walked hand in hand down
The green tunnel of an English lane.
Traceries of leaves shed a patterned shade
In the greened cathedral that spanned
The heavens in verdant shades.
Those great boughed arches
Thrusting sky ward hungry for sun.
Ornaments of subtle shifting light
Dappling the silver path below.
As we trekked up the hill, breathless
We emerged into the glourious light.
The valley below greeted us,
Swagged in its summer clothes.
The earth seemed poised, time stopped
An eternity of space, a golden moment
There you said loved me for the first time

For Him I Know Not: XVII

I floated
Across oceans
I scaled
Mountain ranges
I rolled down
Verdant hill slopes
I roamed
In virgin forests
I was drenched
In crystalline rain
I sat
By warm fireplaces
I challenged
The war-lord
I walked past
The milky-way
I set
My foot on the moon
I stopped
For a while at Jupiter
I approached Mercury
I dared
Every nook and corner
Of the earth and space

I absorbed
The earth, planets,
Stars and sky

Nowhere have I found
My peace as when
I hold his hand

Yes, I belong to him
I know not!

A Journey

I went upon a journey
Set out to find myself.
I wandered long and lonely
My steps were onward bent.
I searched in every cranny
To find what I had lost
Searched every hill and valley
No matter what it cost.
I looked in highest heaven
Amongst the silver stars
And in the great deep oceans
In all the coral bars.
Across the dry baked deserts
Where great rivers once had flowed,
Upon the flat and fertile plains
Where natures bounty glowed.
It seemed I couldn't find me,
No matter where I looked.
So slowly back I travelled
Dissappointment I had brooked.
My heart and mind were heavy
I cried deep in sombre gloom
I thought my time was wasted
I should have stayed at home.
It was just then it hit me
Right between the eyes
The me I gone in search of
Those many years ago
Was hidden deep inside me,
But I just didn't know.

He’ll Be With Me

What’s ahead, I may not know, but, God will direct the way to go,
While on God’s promises I stand, He will guide me with His Hand,
Opening doors and closing some, God will lead in days to come,
Through the valley and over the hills, I will follow as my Lord wills.

The will of God can’t be frustrated, and His plans are not belated,
Whether hills or valleys my friend, my God will see me to the end,
While in the valley, dark as night, the Lord becomes my only light,
And on that hill, He helps me climb, in God’s perfect will and time.

When the times are dark and bleak, it’s the Lord’s will I must seek,
As the Lord sends me His Grace, while even in that darkest place,
Comforted by simply who God is, and that as a believer, I am His,
As God’s presence is here to stay; throughout my life, day to day.

Times truly change, but God will not, as I live out life’s present lot,
That is the present life afforded to me, by The Lord of all Eternity,
Whose purpose will always prevail, as those around appear to fail,
As the very will which God decreed, in my life, friend, will succeed.

While in a world of shifting sands, I’m secure in my Savior’s hands,
As my every step is ordered by, my Lord God, who reigns on high,
As God’s Spirit reminds my heart, from my side, God won’t depart,
So wherever life’s’ path should go, God will be with me, this I know.

Whatever The Tides

Give The Lord time and space, to fill a heart with His Grace,
To calm a heart filled with fear, knowing God is always near,
Knowing no matter what the tide, in your heart He will abide,
Knowing truly within your heart, that The Lord will not depart.

At Christmas time we often sing, about tidings He will bring,
Good tidings of joy to all men, especially those Born Again,
For that is why Christ came, so all could embrace His Name,
To accept His great Salvation, that He offers to every nation.

The tides of this life, we know, here upon earth ebb and flow,
As those tides change for me, changeless is God of Eternity,
The Lord God and Creator, Who came down to be my Savior,
My Lord is my provider too, and all tides He sees me through.

Whether tides are rough or calm, I am securely in God’s Palm,
Nothing takes me from His Hand, as my Lord helps me stand,
Amidst the shifting sands of life, I’ll stand firm in Jesus Christ,
While on The Rock of Eternity, The Lord God provides for me.

Friend, at any time any place, The Lord will provide His Grace,
With tidings of joy and peace, within a heart, that won’t cease,
Throughout this life I’m assured, in all times by Christ my Lord,
Whether in need or prosperity, my Lord is The God of Eternity.

Light The Heart

Time pushed me into dark
It closed all the doors
And locked me in cage
For days and months
With no rays of light

I lived in with a hope
In that cage for months
For a light of hand
To reach my darkness
And to pull into light

Days and months passed
In darkness and hope
No light of hand came
To pull me into light
Slowly my hope died

I stopped to look
For light of hand
And started to think
How to light darkness?
How to light darkness?

Finally the light came
In my cage of darkness
Its not light of hand
Its a light of lights
That showed me light

It divvy's any darkness
It unlocks any cage
It lights all the time
It always helps me out
Its a light of my heart

Unquiet Soul

Why do you write these self destructive verses
Slashing at your unquiet soul in icy solitude;
Crying in your wilderness of angst ridden pain,
There is a bleakness to your life that cools the sun,
Blankets you in shades of your own misery,
To live in the blackness of the inky night.
Hopeless you are, blind to the light, deaf to loves call.
Let me open your cage, illuminate your night,
Bring you into the joyfulness life.
Awaken you from your long sleep with a tender kiss
Warm you in the gentle heat of my love
Bring you into the light and set you free.

His Staff and Rod

I can be content with what I have, knowing I always have His staff,
For I have His staff to comfort me, on my journey towards Eternity.
With His rod Christ guides my way, down the path every single day.
Times get hard, this is for sure, but I know that I do have The Lord.

Christ leads me in valleys so low, in places that I don’t really know.
The times that I don’t understand, I know for sure I’m in His Hand.
And when in the Hand of The Lord, in any place I know I’m secure,
For any place that I should go, The Lord is with me, this I do know.

When the valley is dark as night, I have with me His guiding Light,
His Light guides me in all I do, as I travel the valley safely through,
And as I travel to higher land, I’m being led by God’s Mighty Hand.
Along the way I take a stand, to praise the name of The Son of Man.

On my journey I sometimes stop, high above upon a mountain top,
It’s a mountain high so I can see, what The Lord can do through me.
Christ fills me then with a zeal, that lets me know His Love is real.
And with this zeal I can testify, He still is Lord who reigns on High.

God can reach you where you are, it doesn’t matter if near or far,
For He is God of the mountain peak, on every day of every week,
And He is God in the valley low, and any place where you may go.
Just call on God from anywhere, and my friend, He’ll meet you there.

The Creation

And God stepped out on space,
And he looked around and said:
I'm lonely--
I'll make me a world.

And far as the eye of God could see
Darkness covered everything,
Blacker than a hundred midnights
Down in a cypress swamp.

Then God smiled,
And the light broke,
And the darkness rolled up on one side,
And the light stood shining on the other,
And God said: That's good!

Then God reached out and took the light in his hands,
And God rolled the light around in his hands
Until he made the sun;
And he set that sun a-blazing in the heavens.
And the light that was left from making the sun
God gathered it up in a shining ball
And flung it against the darkness,
Spangling the night with the moon and stars.
Then down between
The darkness and the light
He hurled the world;
And God said: That's good!

Then God himself stepped down--
And the sun was on his right hand,
And the moon was on his left;
The stars were clustered about his head,
And the earth was under his feet.
And God walked, and where he trod
His footsteps hollowed the valleys out
And bulged the mountains up.

Then he stopped and looked and saw
That the earth was hot and barren.
So God stepped over to the edge of the world
And he spat out the seven seas--
He batted his eyes, and the lightnings flashed--
He clapped his hands, and the thunders rolled--
And the waters above the earth came down,
The cooling waters came down.

Then the green grass sprouted,
And the little red flowers blossomed,
The pine tree pointed his finger to the sky,
And the oak spread out his arms,
The lakes cuddled down in the hollows of the ground,
And the rivers ran down to the sea;
And God smiled again,
And the rainbow appeared,
And curled itself around his shoulder.

Then God raised his arm and he waved his hand
Over the sea and over the land,
And he said: Bring forth! Bring forth!
And quicker than God could drop his hand,
Fishes and fowls
And beasts and birds
Swam the rivers and the seas,
Roamed the forests and the woods,
And split the air with their wings.
And God said: That's good!

Then God walked around,
And God looked around
On all that he had made.
He looked at his sun,
And he looked at his moon,
And he looked at his little stars;
He looked on his world
With all its living things,
And God said: I'm lonely still.

Then God sat down--
On the side of a hill where he could think;
By a deep, wide river he sat down;
With his head in his hands,
God thought and thought,
Till he thought: I'll make me a man!

Up from the bed of the river
God scooped the clay;
And by the bank of the river
He kneeled him down;
And there the great God Almighty
Who lit the sun and fixed it in the sky,
Who flung the stars to the most far corner of the night,
Who rounded the earth in the middle of his hand;
This great God,
Like a mammy bending over her baby,
Kneeled down in the dust
Toiling over a lump of clay
Till he shaped it in is his own image;

Then into it he blew the breath of life,
And man became a living soul.
Amen.Amen.

Born From Stars

All of us are born from stars.
Each of us a little light of soul
That once traversed the heaven
That flickers restless to be free,
To return from whence it came.
For when we die, it will join its kind,
Rejoicing in the universal dance.
To reignite and set the skies ablaze.

Goodbye

Turn off the light
Let darkness come
Like some long dead blank being
Just drown yourself in all of it
Remembering not a thing
When we are young the hands of time
Move not and all is golden
When we look back
Our hearts the same
But body pained and broken
Just close your eyes
Before you die
As God puts out His hand
Goodbye green earth, Goodbye my lambs
It's time for my rebirth

The Fairy Light

A light appeared on the darkest hill,
The girl fell once, and was left behind,
I caught her arm and we crossed the rill:
‘I can’t go on - I think I’m blind.’
‘We’ve all been blind to the things that count
But there’s the light - if you’ll follow me
We may be able to sight the truth,
And catch a glimpse of eternity.’

The light had pranced by the farmer's gate,
Followed the stony lane along,
Leapt a thicket of tangled thorns,
Flashed and fluttered, and bounded on.
‘It’s only a lonely firefly,
A torch, or maybe a will-o-wisp, ’
She clutched her leg and she gave a cry,
I left her there in the morning mist.

‘I must go on! ’ I could hear the words
The wind had snatched at my shallow breath,
‘To stay is worse than to venture on,
For standing still is a living death.’
I took the hill like a man possessed
And clawed a way through the cloying weed,
Prayed and whispered and fought for breath
To follow the light of my driving need.

The light had stopped at the stony crest
To turn its wavering glow on me,
I caught it fast in my fevered hand
And felt the light spread instantly.
The hill erupted in seas and stars,
The heavens wheeled and whirled above,
I ceased to be; but whispered ‘Why? ’
A word, in answer, whispered – ‘Love! ’

But love like this was not content,
Rather a pit of burning pain,
Only a well of innocence
Could blend unhurt in the light’s refrain.
Reflecting the inner glow of love
The great creation wheeled in grace
While I stood dark and shadow-formed,
Apart - as one of the human race!

They found me there at the break of day;
The girl had only a line to tell:
‘He must have suffered a stroke’, she said,
‘His face was pale, and then he fell.’
She didn’t mention the fairy light
We’d chased forever across the land;
The girl was lucky - I lost my sight,
And walk the world with a withered hand!

Joy Will Return

When in a pit of deep despair
And no light pierces the dark.
Remember there will be a day
When joy will return.

When hopeless tears are shed
And life seems bitter, dead.
Remember there will be a day
When joy will return

When days seem drear and sad
And you feel you'll never laugh.
Remember there will be a day
When joy will return.

Then suddenly the day will dawn
And you give that first guilty laugh.
You will know deep inside,
Though won't admit,
Joy has returned

Morning (Poem From The Movie Il Postino)

Naked, you are simple as one of your hands,
smooth, earthy, small, transparent, round:
you have moon-lines, apple-pathways:
naked, you are slender as a naked grain of wheat.
Naked, you are blue as a night in Cuba;
you have vines and stars in your hair;
naked, you are spacious and yellow
as summer in a golden church.
Naked, you are tiny as one of your nails-
curved, subtle, rosy, till the day is born
and you withdraw to the underground world,
as if down a long tunnel of clothing and of chores:
your clear light dims, gets dressed - drops its leaves-
and becomes a naked hand again

A lane in England

In autumn I walked in England
in a lane full of trees
where leaves lay auburn
on a road wet from rain.

Barren, stripped oak trees
were between other green ones
and it was as if I was going
right through a tunnel
with here and there trees
of which the leaves were more yellow.

In the distance the road bended to the right
where a bush fence
cut neatly square
and telephone poles
ran along the edge of the road

and the green moss banks
were covered with auburn leaves
at places
and on the other side
of the road
a shrub stretched out green and long
like a sausage
that was lying next to the road

and I would love
to have a lane like that
next to my driveway.

A gracious silhouette on the path of light

A gracious silhouette on the path of light
She was a phantom of delight
when she first gleamed upon my sight
A lovely apparition, upon the earth, sent
to be the world's ornaments
Her eyes as stars of twilight fair
Like the golden dusk her glided hair
But all things else about her said or drawn
are as the joy of emerged from dawn
A dancing spirit, a wanton shape, an image glee and gay
to haunt, to startle and beguile as a piercing ray

A Truely Norwegian Poem

The Suitor

Uphill I walked it was still dark, had to be at
the farm a five, milking time. Hard westerly
wind makes the climb tough soon the cattle will
be mooing in their pens, the boss grumpy, I’m
hungry and no time to eat; milking eight cows
by hand is no joke. End of the last hill I see
the farm, there is light in the kitchen,

Emma, my dog, barks, stops when she hears my
steps, ten to five, morning light I stop and catch
my breath, they are not going to think that I was
hasting for them I’ll have a quick mug of coffee
a slice of ham, just like any other day, they will
wonder and the maids whisper, but not ask where
and with whom, I spent the night.

When tommorow begins without me

When tomorrow begins the new day,
I will not be here for you to see.
Please dont let the sun rise
and see the tears you shed for me.
I don't want you to cry for me like you did today.
I wish so much you wouldn't cry.
The way you did today,

I know how much you loved me,
And I loved you all too.
And of corse I understand that you'll miss me.
I will miss you too but your all in my heart.

But now when tomorrow begins without me,
Please try to find it in your heart understand.
Gods angels called my name,
They reached out a hand to me and said it's time to go.
And So I took theire hand.
My place was ready in heaven above.

I cried tears as I lert you all behind.
But you'll be coming with me in my heart.
But as I turned to walk away a tear fell from my eye.
For all my lifeI wanted to the fight todie.

In the end I felt there wasn't much left for me.
And yet I wanted one more day.
I wanted to say my goodbyes but is the one thing I couldn't do.
But then I f realised this could never be.
For you would have stopped me even though my time had come.

And when I thought of you all left behind.
My heart was filled with guilt sorrow.
But as I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt peace and harmony.

When God looked at me and smiled at me,
He said Amy this is eternity.
Here you can start afresh.
I promise you no tomorrows only today.
Your life on earth is now your past.

Here you don't have to worry about your past.
God said to me Amy come take my hand.
And it was then I finally began to understand.
God had choosen my pain to end.

So when tomorrow begins without me,
Please know we are not apart,
We live on in each others hearts

My only way out is towards the light of death

My only way out is
towards the light of death.
I'll see the light and no it's time to let go.
And leave this world behind me.

I no its time to go
Either towards the train
Or towars a bottle of pills and a razor
Or mabey towards the bridge.
But its time for me to go.

My only way is towards the light
I wonder where I'll find it
Is there really a light.
Some say its at the end of the tunnel.
I'll find out soon.

I found the light
It was there all around me
At the end of the tunnel
When I went away.

My way out was the light
Beckoning me back home
The light has carried me home
And out of this world.
