Solid Jackson
She says she's read too many fashion magazines
She's forgotten what real love is like
And as the basement collects more kids off the street
They smoke themselves to death waiting for the band to begin
They've been tuning up there for an hour now
And I don't think I can stand another minute more
But just then the first chord strums

Real Love
All my little plans and schemes
Lost like some forgotten dream
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waiting for you
Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys
Seems like all we really were doing
Was waiting for love
Only to be alone
Only to be alone
Its real love, its real, yes its real love, its real
From this moment on I know
Exactly where my life will go
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waiting for love
Only to be afraid
Only to be afraid
Its real love, its real, yes its real love, its real
Though Ive been in love before
But in my heart I wanted more
Seems like all I really was doing
Was waiting for you
Only to be alone
Only to be alone
Its real love, its real, its real love, its real
Yes its real love, its real, its real love, its real,
Yes its real love, its real, its real love, its real,
Yes its real love, its real, its real love, its real,
Yes its real love, its real

Mary Street
(s. hoffs/v. peterson)
Susanna & vicki
Times up girl now
No more excusing you
And those books you read
Oh girl, you better review
Oh oh oh, mary street
Looking out your door
Oh oh oh, mary street
Now what are you waiting for (what are you waiting for)
You thought that cool
Was in someone elses shoes and makeup
Sitting in your room
Waiting for the moment to come
Oh oh oh, mary street
Looking out your door
Oh oh oh, mary street
Now what are you waiting for (what are you waiting for)
You got no tears for
All the guys who passed you by
All the girls who shut you out
They wont recognize you now
Youre a good girl now
No more excusing you
And those books you read
Oh girl, you better review
Oh oh oh, mary street
Looking out your door
Oh oh oh, mary street
Now what are you waiting for (what are you waiting for)
Oh oh oh, mary street
Looking out your door
Oh oh oh, mary street
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Dont Go In The Basement
Oh..
You can tell a dirty story
In the old conservatory...
But dont go in the basement!
You can make a scene
On the mezanene
But dont go in the basement!
You can fill yourself with static
With the ghosts up in the attic
But dont go in the basement!
You can light yourself a torch
On the old front porch
But dont go in the basement!
Oh you may think that its real cool
To ride down the bannister like some darn fool
Oh dont go... dont go!!
Dont go in the basement!
You can feel quite aloof
Playing rummy on the roof
But dont go in the basement!
Where the cockroaches dance
You can wallow in romance
But dont go in the basement!
You may think that its deluxe
To ride the bannister filled with rust
Oh dont go, dont go!
Dont go in the basement!!!!

Rock 'N' Roll Band
If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
We'd travel all over the land.
We'd play and we'd sing and wear spangly things.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
And we were up there on the stand,
The people would here us and love us and cheer us.
Hurray for that rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
Then we'd have a million fans.
We'd giggle and laugh and sign autographs,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
The people would all kiss our hands.
We'd be millionaires and have extra long hair,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
But we ain't no rock 'n' roll band,
We're just seven kids in the sand.
With homemade guitars and pails and jars
And drums of potato chip cans.
Just seven kids in the sand.
Talk'n and waven' our hands.
And dreamin' and thinkin' oh wouldn't it be grand,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.

Dance Yourself To Death
My liberated parents
They are gonin' out tonight
They read the hippest magazines
They've loosened their uptights
Dad's wearin' real tight Levis
And some Gucci Tennis shoes
He's got a T-shirt custom made for him
Saying "Give me pot not booze"
I get a kiss good-bye
I get all numb and high
From all the smoke left on their breath
I smile and wish them well
Then I pray like hell
They go and dance themselves to death
Mom's hair's all green and dirty
She wears a high tech Devo Suit
She changed her name to Xerox
She hides Quaaludes in her boots
Oh, me, I'm all real embarrassed
When I hear the things they do
They kinda compromise my social position
And my cool-ativity is suffering too!
I get a kiss good-bye
I get all numb and high
From all the smoke left on their breath
I smile and wish them well
Then I pray like hell
They go and dance themselves to death
Ahh dance, real hard
I get a kiss good-bye
I get all numb and high
From all the smoke left on their breath
I smile and wish them well
Then I pray like hell
They go and dance themselves to death
Come on momma
Come on daddy
Come on skinny
Come on fatty
Shake it Martha
Shake it Larry
Shake it Mr. Coronary
You gotta dance dance
Come on and dance dance
Dance til you're outta breath

Magazines
you see them everywhere
you know those magazines
yeah I've bought a few
they show you everything
so many news stands
as I'm passing by
but rows and rows of you
are bound to catch my eye
now everyone can gaze upon your body
its good for you - I guess you have no shame
I never knew if how I acted
would make you seek revenge
and now I know
and you're in magazines
but is it really you
in the empty world
I shouldn't be surprised
you're an ambitious girl
with all that naked skin as sweet as honey
Maybe you just really needed money
I wondered if I would be punished for
my voyeuristic pleasure
and now I know
and you're in magazines
and now I know
and you're in magazines
now I know
I tear through pages
of every kind of pose
but its not really you I see
when I look real close
no you're a little bit different
you're a little bit different
you're a little bit different
and now I know
and you're in magazines
now I know
and you're in magazines
I'm alone
and you're in magazines
so it never was you
no

Minute By Minute (Dobbie Brothers)
(Michael McDonaldLester Abrams)
Hey, don't worry, I've been lied to
I've been here many times before
Girl, don't you worry, I know where I stand
I don't need this love, I don't need your hand
I know I could turn, blink, and you'd be gone
Then I must be prepared any time to carry on
But minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
Oh, minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
You will stay just to watch me, darlin'
Wilt away on lies from you
Can't stop the habit of livin' on the run
I take it all for granted like you're the only one
Livin' on my own
Somehow that sounds nice
You think I'm your fool
Well, you may just be right
'Cause minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
Oh, minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
Call my name and I'll be gone
You'll reach out and I won't be there
Just my luck you'll realize
You should spend your life with someone
You could spend your life with someone
Minute by minute by minute by minute
I'll be holding on
Oh, minute by minute by minute by minute
I'll be holding on...

Not Just You
i, too, had it, not just once,
but many times, when i
wake up at the wrong hour
and think of you
and then i take my old
favorite pen and
yellow pad paper
and begin to write
a letter for you
you are a ghost now
far away
and i expect you
not to read this
letter that i am
not sending anyway
i will not even
read it
i will just keep it
so when another being
comes whose interest
is poetry and by chance
he digs upon my
poetry books that no one
bothers to read
anymore
at anytime
he may find it there
inserted in one of the
pages between
two chapters
concerning the themes
of love and
death
and perhaps he too
will understand how is to
truly love and be
so unloved because
death has come
to early because
the timing was wrong
because the world
has not understood
because one
sometimes in pain
has no cure
but just the silence

I think there's nothing better than seeing a three-chord straight up rock 'n' roll band in your face with sweaty music and three minute good songs.
Those Kids Are Mine
Pick any hour you choose to believe,
I am fast asleep.
With dreams of royalities.
And making acceptance speeches,
Behind raised and decorated podiums.
After reciting poem after poem,
Without a wish to get needed rest.
Pick any hour you choose to believe,
That hour is the time to begin your creeping.
When I release my 'children',
From the state of mind I fall into...
That seems to turn me on.
And...
I am creating 'children birthing from my pen.
Pick any hour your choose,
To molest any one of them.
And I will be at your door before you get there.
To begin your craft of flagrant plagiarism.
Pick any hour you choose to believe,
That hour is the time to begin your creeping.
You've been getting closer and closer...
But,
You touch one of my kids.
I will be at your door before you get there.
To discredit every move you've made,
To claim what's mine.
To do, redo, re-state or redefine.
Those kids are mine! And we know each other,
Very well.

On The 4th Of July
Shall I tell it again how we started as friends
who would run into one another now and again.
At the Yippee Cai O or the Mesa Dupree, or a dozen different everyday places to be.
I was living alone, we were ever so brave on the telephone.
Would you care to come down for fireworks time,
we could each just reach, we step out of line.
And the smell of the smoke and the lay of the land
and the feeling of finding one's heart in one's hand
and the tiny tin voice of the radio band singing "love must stand,"
love forever and ever must stand.
Unbelievable you, impossible me, the fool who fell out of the family tree,
the fellow that found the philosopher's stone, deep underground like a dinosaur bone.
Who fell into you at a quarter to two with a tear in your eye for the Fourth of July
for the patriots and the minutemen and the things you believe they believed in then
Such as freedom, and freedom's land and the kingdom of God and the rights of man
with the tiny tin voice of the radio band singing "love must stand,"
love forever and ever must stand and forever must stand.
Oh, the smell of the smoke as we lay on the land
and the feeling of finding my heart in my hand
with the tiny tin voice of the radio band singing "love must stand,"
love forever and ever must stand and forever must stand.
All on the Fourth of July, on the Fourth of July.

A Death Wish Of The Unfortunate Stand-by
sometimes, when i stand waiting for someone who does not come
i whistle
for death, as though it is a friend and i am the willing one to go with it in its new journey hoping that perhaps i may like it
finally, when i do not have to go back and retrace my origin and then regret,
and death hears it and comes to me and asks me if i am going with him
to an escapade,
an adventure,
for death is an escape,
a closing of a door,
a making of a wall,
a locking of a window,
a stopping of a noise of an engine
on the street,
and when death is nearer, i begin to fear and ask myself,
what shall happen next?
and i deny i whistled for it, and i assure it that it is simply a mistake, a wrong call,
a slip of my tongue
and death believes me,
for death is a respecter of our own misfortune,
our errors, our negligence and even pretensions,
a keeper sometimes of our own lies,
and death leaves me, and i have sighs, i doubt what i really want,
and sadly, i wish i had told it the truth.

The Infinite Potential Of My Hands
Wailing on my tin plate guitar
I emitted reckless rebellion
In my smoke-filled basement
Embracing my punk influences
And playing slapdash power chords
Under cesspools of distortion
Finally...
I could express every emotion
In one sustained E chord
As it imploded into the future

My Rebel
She wears no makeup
Only lip gloss to make her lips glow
She is proud of her hair
Only water relaxes her coarse afro
She scans fashion magazines
Only to mock prices of Gucci and prada
My rebel
Her wardrobe lacks stilettoes
All she collects is converse Allstar
Taylor gang like wiz khalifa
Her idol is Che guevara
All she reads is history and African literature
Her favourite sport is soccer
All she supports is Gor Mahia
My rebel
Knows about African socialism
Like she would have known her colours
Knows Paris for its museum and art
Like she would have known it
For its fragrance and fashion stores
My rebel
Partakes in shots of vodka
Without blinking an eye
Smokes that illegal plant
Every weekend we are bored
And want to get high
My rebel
I`ll ask for no libel
No matter how you soil my name
I`d never want your tame
Like a bird
I want you free
For your love
I`d do anything even….
My rebel
I promise to love you until time ends.

The American people know that every day 3,000 kids begin to smoke, 1,000 of them die an early death. They're not going to allow us to go forward this year and not have comprehensive bipartisan legislation. It's in everybody's best interest.

Kids With Guns
Kids with guns
Kids with guns
Taking over
But it won't be long
They're mesmerized
Skeletons
Kids with guns
Kids with guns
Easy does it, easy does it, they got something to say "no" to
Drinking out (is she real, is she)
Pacifier (is she real, is she)
Demon souls (is she real, is she)
Street desire (is she real, is she)
Didn't mean to (is she real, is she)
But it won't be long (is she real, is she)
Kids with guns
Kids with guns
Easy does it, easy does it, they got something to say "no" to
And they turn into monsters
Turning us into fire
Turning us into monsters
It's all desire
It's all desire
It's all desire
Drinking out
Pacifier
Sinking soul
There you are
Doesn't make side to
But it won't be long
Cause kids with guns
Kids with guns
Easy does it, easy does it, they got something to say "no" to
And they turn into monsters
Turning us into fire
Turning us into monsters
It's all desire
It's all desire
It's all desire
Is she, is she real, is she
Is she real, is she (it's real)
Is she, is she real, is she
Is she real, is she (it's real)

Is she is she real

Every Second
Wayne perry/gerald smith
Well listen dear I think its clear
We need to sit and talk
Seems youve got this notion Ive been having second thoughts
Well I must confess in a way I guess that silly notions true
cause every second youre not here I think of you
Every second, every minute, every hour of every day
Every second theres a thought of you that comes my way
So if you ask that Ive had second thoughts Id have to say
Every second, every minute, every hour of every day.
Now I propose we drink a toast and turn the lights down low
Put our favoritie music on and hold each other close
Dont worry dear youll always be here in my heart to stay
Every second, every minute, every hour of every day
Every second, every minute, love you more and more each day

I Don't Wear Those Masks
I'm not in it for the fashion.
Or to shake my 'booty' to the music.
I represent what I feel.
It is real,
My heritage given.
An ethnic inheritance I honor.
And not a nightclub fling,
Waiting for the weekends to binge.
To awaken with a hangover on Monday...
With an excuse to make,
As to why I am late to perform my tasks.
Not me...
I don't wear those masks!
I'm not in it for the fashion.
Or a fad to display until it fades.
What you see is 'me'...
With an idenity I carry.
And bonded I am to it like a marriage.
Only death will divorce me from this love!
Firmer than steel in cement,
I am grounded.
