New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve.

New Years Eve at the hotel, a posh place my lawyer was there too
I thought of all the money I had paid him for my divorce.
Eight o’clock five hours to midnight it was like watching a kettle boil.
The wine, plenty of it helped, I soon joined the festivities. The food
wasn’t up to much not for all the money I had paid, my new wife told
me to shut up and enjoy myself. Then I got drunk and it was midnight.
My solicitor behaved like clown and danced like a demented monkey.
Three o’clock when we got home, “wasn’t a lovely party” my wife said.
This must have been the same time as Coptic Christians, in Cairo,
coming out of a church after midnight mass…were blown up.

Envy

The Envy

They do not pay me well, in this café, where
I work, so I take a little food home and drink
a little wine, when I can, because all the chefs
I read about make much more money than me.

When a big shot, in the world of finance, gets
paid a million in bonus, he takes it but grumble
for in his circle, he knows no one who are paid
less then this, but many who are paid more

When I get my pension after cooking food for
fifty years, it will not be much and I know of
no one who get less than me, but plenty who
receive much more and that makes me bitter.

But it’s sweet to know that those who make
more money than me are rancorous too ‘cause
they know of many very rich people who have
much more money than they have.

While I Wasn't Looking

*About New York City Landords

While I wasn't looking
They took my home away
They said it was theirs
Because they had more money
And they could make more money
It wasn't mine just because I lived there all my life
Just because my dad paid for it when I was young
And my mom paid for it when I was young
Just because I had paid for it for an adult third of my life
How could it be mine
If they had more money
So they took my home away
Because they could

Money

Money money money
Everybody wants some
No money church can't run
Money for this
Money for that
No life without it
Can't sleep
She says hell
In this house
If she don't get it!

Before you get paid
Taxman grab it
Buy something
He grab it again
When money pressure hit
You cannot afford to get sick
Doctors want some
And if you dead without it
You will not be buried
Not even in the sticks

Money money money
It's like blood
It's the way world runs
Need money for food
Need money for fun
If you have no money
Blood a go run
Man join the army
To get some of it
Would be alive
If he had it

Money money money
Where is the money?
Have to get money
Before the day is done
Donkey cough
When you are broke
No money
Donkey don't eat
Everything stops
Earth can't turn
Have to have money
Even some to burn

Money money money
Where did it go?
Pocket is empty
And I just got paid
Maybe my woman took it
Thought I had it made
Thought I had a hundred
But I don't have twenty
Now I am in trouble
I have to leave yard
But I can't leave
If I don't have any

What a thing this is
Money! money! money!
Eh!

Prayer

God, I need a job because I need money.
Here the world is, enjoyable with whiskey,
women, ultimate weapons, and class!
But if I have no money, then my wife
gets mad at me, I can’t drink well,
the armed oppress me, and no boss
pays me money. But when I work,
Oh I get paid!, the police are courteous,
and I can have a drink and breathe air.
I feel classy. I am where the arms are.
The wife is wife in deed. The world
is interesting!, except I have to be
indoors all day and take shit, and make
weapons to kill outsiders with. I miss
the air and smell that paid work stinks
when done for someone else’s profit, so I quit,
enjoy a few flush days in air, drunk, then
I need a job again. I’m caught in a steel cycle.

“Our Clock Of Midnight”(An Acrostic)

Our clock of midnight ticking around
Undiscovered love can hear the sound
Repressed desire lying underground

Certainly this rare love can never be found
Loneliness covers the dusk to adorn
Outcry from the dark quells the forlorn
Crying out for light in the name of the dark
Keeps the distance between fire and spark

Our clock of midnight still ticking around
For we are far away but we can be found

Miles apart yet our minds can be seen
In reality can we make a blue night green?
Don’t want this clock ever to stop ticking
Noiselessness into heart where it’s been sticking
Indissoluble feeling we can feel so deep
Glimmering hope in our souls we reap
Here we lay down in the midst of dream
The clock of our midnight is our time supreme.

Midnight

In the midnight
You appeared
In the midnight
You ordered
In the midnight
I marched forward.

I alongwith my wife
And children could not
Find you out.
I alone appreared
And clarified your
Homecoming that is
Drastically changed.

In the midnight you
Alongwith others
Came closer and closer
In the midnight
You appeared and
Played the role
That is not under control.

Its midnight and Im not famous yet
By: jimmy buffett, steve goodman

For barry hanah
Catch the elevator from the penthouse suite
And take it down to the casino
The god-almighty sound of money movin round
Can be heard all the way to reno
Chorus:
Well its midnight and Im not famous yet
Tryin to win it all with one more bet
Nothin can stop my thirty-two hop
Or my ten dollar yo yo yo
Its midnight, Im just gettin ready to roll
(midnight)
Now lester polyester signs another marker
Like the high rollers do
Seven come eleven
His brand new baby needs gucci shoes
Chorus:
Well its midnight shes not famous yet
Tryin to break the bank with one more bet
Nothin can stop my thirty-two hop
Or my ten dollar yo yo yo
Its midnight, lesters gettin ready to roll
Midnight (midnight)

Theyre pagin someone we know, lester hits a keno
Hes not leavin yet
Vacuum cleaners hummin lounge act still is strummin

Well its midnight theyre not famous yet
Tryin to win it all with one more bet
Nothin can stop my thirty-two hop

Miss Your Kiss

I've got my money
I've got it here in my hand
O.K. let me tell you
This is how we stand
I have waited so long
But a good thing's never too late
So don't take no chances
Leave nothing to fate
I want to walk tall
In midnight blue
Look good, oh so good
Step out in midnight blue
Midnight blue
I watch the razors
With their class and their style
Dressed to kill, man
Their lives is just one great big smile
And oh I want to be there
When they dish that stuff out
Cool and collected
Man that's what it's all about
So give me, give me...
I want midnight blue
I love midnight
I'm going to step out in midnight blue
Give me, give me, give me midnight blue
I'll walk tall in midnight blue
I'll look good, oh so good...
In midnight blue

Round Midnight (feat. Andy Summers)

It begins to tell
Round midnight, round midnight
I do pretty well
'Til after sundown
Supper time, I'm feelin' sad
But it really gets bad
Round midnight
Mem'ries always start
Round midnight, round midnight
Haven't got the heart
To stand those memories
When my heart is still with you
And old midnight
Knows it too.
When some quarrel we've had needs mending
Does that mean that our love is ending?
Darling, I need you
Lately I find
You're out of my arms
And I'm out of my mind.
Let our hearts take wing
Round midnight, round midnight
Let the angels sing
For your returning
Let our love be safe and sound
'Til old midnight
Comes around

Twenty Five To Midnight

Train I ride don't be slow
If your whistle can blow
Fifteen miles down the track
Tell them I'm coming back
Counting poles counting sheep
Don't be slow I won't weep
If your wheels on the line
Were to put me on time
Just a year to the day
Since I went upon my way
To seek my fortune and fame
Be a star change my name
And that's it more or less
Til this midnight express
I know I can't be late
Cause she said she won't wait
She'll just go marry Jack
So there's no turning back
And it's 25 to midnight and fifteen miles of track
Band I had got a break
Just one chance we had to take
Told my girl I'd be back
Left her with my friend Jack
New York City for a spell
Things didn't turn out so well
Every dive that we played
We were lucky we got paid
Mr Train driver please
If your speed you increase
Every cent I have now
Will be yours this I vow
And that's it more or less
Til this midnight express
I know I can't be late
Cause she said she won't wait
She'll just go marry Jack
So there's no turning back
And it's 25 to midnight and fifteen miles of track
We called ourselves the Latino Lovers
Hawaiian shirts and top forty covers
I didn't think I could sink this low
When drugs and booze ate all my dough
This isn't how it was meant to be
There's no such thing as a meal that's free
If I was ever to get out alive
I have to get home on time
Train I ride don't be slow
If your whistle can blow
Fifteen miles down the track
Tell them I'm coming back
And that's it more or less
Til this midnight express
I know I can't be late
Cause she said she won't wait
She'll just go marry Jack
So there's no turning back
And it's 25 to midnight and fifteen miles of track
And it's 25 to midnight and fifteen miles of track

It's Almost Sunday Morning

In the summer of 1956,
any Saturday at midnight
when the moon was full
and the stars were bright,
you would see Grandma Groth
on her front-porch swing
waiting for her son, Clarence,
still a bachelor at 53,
to make it home
from the Blind Man's Pub
after another evening quaffing
steins of Heineken's.

Many times when I was young,
I'd be coming home at midnight
from another pub just steps behind
staggering Clarence.
I'd always let him walk ahead
and listen to him hum
'The Yellow Rose of Texas.'

But the last Saturday night
that Clarence and I came down the street,
I didn't see Grandma on her swing.
She wasn't waiting to berate him.
So far so good, I thought,
until, not far from his house,
Clarence fell into Mrs. Murphy's hedge.

When I finally got him up,
I moved him like a fridge on a dolly
down the walk and into his house
only to see Grandma, a wraith
in a hazy nightgown, swoop
into the hallway, screaming
and thrashing Clarence with her broom,
pausing only to tell me,
'Go home to your mother now
so you won't be late for Mass.
It's almost Sunday morning! '

After that sad night in 1956,
I never saw Clarence again,
either marching to work in the morning,
his lunch pail gallantly swinging,
or staggering home at midnight
from the Blind Man's Pub.
But many a midnight after that,
I'd be coming home
from the other pub,
lunch pail in hand,
and I'd see Grandma
reigning on her swing,
broom in hand,
waiting.

Tonight, however, many decades later,
as I stroll home at midnight,
I realize I'm older now than Clarence was
the night he disappeared
and even though Grandma's dead,
I can still see her regal on that swing,
broom in hand, waiting,
and so I give her a big wave,
hoping to hear one more time,
'Go home to your mother now
so you won't be late for Mass.
It's almost Sunday morning! '

Closin Time At Home

(toby keith/michael crossno)
Budweiser clock says its almost twelve
I tipped the bartender, he rang that old bell
San bernardino nights are great, but they sure dont feel like home
Right now in tulsa theyve turned up the lights
The band has stopped playin, theyve called it a night
Shes makin her way to the front door, I know
She wont be leavin alone
If its midnight in california, must be closin time in oklahoma
I know that shes already danced another night away
And these west coast nights sure seem colder
Knowin somebody elses arms will hold her
Midnight in california means its closin time at home
I thought this distance between us might help me forget
But Ive been here two weeks and it aint happened yet
A change of scenery hasnt done a thing to change her mind
Oh, these west coast nights sure seem colder
Knowin somebody elses arms will hold her
Midnight in california means its closin time at home
Yeah, midnight in california means its closin time at home

Mommy And Daddy

by Micky Dolenz
M=Micky, C=Coco Dolenz, CR=Control Room (Chip Douglas)
M: ...or we could do...
C: Ha-ha, Micky, just do what they want...
CR: Do, uh, do both of these again...
Well, I'm an angry man, I sing an angry song,
Tell you, honey, it won't be long,
Well, I'll pack my bags, get out of here
With my guitar and a case of beer.
Well I'm going north and I'm going south,
Tell you, honey, better shut your mouth,
Well, I'll kick your head from here to hell,
You better know I can do it well.
Midnight train, rambling, rambling,
All night long I'm gambling, gambling,
Losing all my money, well, it really ain't so funny, hon,
Midnight train, rambling, rambling,
All night long I'm gambling, gambling,
Tell you what baby, well you better be moving on.
Well I really don't know I'm going for sure,
Ain't got a map and it ain't no tour,
I'm just heading out for the open sky,
Who knows, I might even die.
Well, don't you worry your pretty little head,
I never give a damn what I did or said,
That's why I'm packing to leave this place,
Can't stand to look at your cheating face.
Midnight train, rambling, rambling,
All night long I'm gambling, gambling,
Losing all my money, well, it really ain't so funny, hon,
Midnight train, rambling, rambling,
All night long I'm gambling, gambling,
Tell you what baby, well you better be moving on.
Well you treated me like a little boy
And you played around like I was a toy,
Guess you thought I'd have the blues,
Look whose crying, guess you lose.
Midnight train, rambling, rambling,
All night long I'm gambling, gambling,
Losing all my money, well, it really ain't so funny, hon,

Midnight Train

(instrumental intro)
Oh my darling will you come to me
Shaking now just like a willow tree
So tell me whats the story
This track well ride to glory
Coming home
Pretty karla and her russian clothes
Clapboard house and a different nose
Love keeps a candle burning
These steel wheels are turning
Back for home
Come in out of the rain
Come out of the night
Out on the midnight train
Midnight train
Come out of the light
Come out of the rain
Riding the midnight train
Midnight train
Moscow lights, well they dim and glow
The taste is sweeter than its driven snow
So tell me whats the story
This track to ride to glory
Coming home
Come out of the rain, come out of the lights,
Out on the midnight train, midnight train
Come out of the lights, come out in the rain,
Riding the midnight train, midnight train
(instrumental)
Oh my darling will you come to me
Shaking now just like a willow tree
Come out of the lights, come out in the rain,
Riding the midnight train, midnight train
Out of the rain, live again, riding the midnight train, midnight train
Come of the lights, into the rain, riding the midnight train, midnight train
One little strange, come back again

Jeremiah Blues

It was midnight, midnight at noon
Everyone talked in rhyme
Everyone saw the big clock ticking
Nobody knew, nobody knew the time
Elegant debutantes smiled
Everyone fought for dimes
Newspapers screamed for blood
It was the best of times
Every place around the world it seemed the same
Can't hear the rhythm for the drums
Everybody wants to look the other way
When something wicked this way comes
Sometimes they tie a thief to the tree
Sometimes I stare
Sometimes it's me
Everyone told the truth
All that we heard were lies
A pope claimed that he'd been wrong in the past
This was a big surprise
Everyone fell in love
A cardinal's wife was jailed
The government saved a dying planet
When popular icons failed
Every place around the world it seemed the same
Can't hear the rhythm for the drums
Everybody wants to look the other way
When something wicked this way comes
Sometimes they tie a thief to the tree
Sometimes I stare
Sometimes it's me
Sometimes I stare
Sometimes it's me

Midnight Dream

I'm sittin' on a mountain
Searchin' for an answer
Hopin' there's a chance
That she'll be comin' back to me
Midnight dream
I'm waitin' on the mountain
Thinkin' I can find her
Maybe if I find her,
Here is where she'll want to be
Midnight dream
I made my way down to Mexico
I spend a year travelin' 'cross the ocean
Without goin' anywhere
A hundred miles to the nearest phone
A thousand miles from a place called home
And all alone in my despair
I'd call you there
My midnight dream
So I'm sittin' on a mountain
Lookin' 'cross a river
Needin' to be with her
More than I believed I'd be
Midnight dream
I'm sittin' all alone now
Knowin' what I know now
Thought I'd be a teacher
But she would end up teachin' me
Midnight dream
I know that I lost my way one night
But if you ask me
It don't seem right
To spend my life without you there
And so I climbed to the highest peak
Just hopin' somehow that I what I seek
Will somehow speak and you'll appear
My midnight dream
Where are you, don't let go
So I'm sittin' on a mountain
How can I explain it
I'm livin' with the pain of thinkin' how it
Still could be
Midnight dream
Love is what I'm thinkin'
No two ways about it
Go too long without it,
Nothing really means a thing
Midnight dream
But if you haven't decided yet
Might be the only chance we get
Let's don't forget 'bout you and me
I finally ended where I began
You see before you
The sorry soul, the lonely man
I've come to be
Please come to me
My midnight dream
Oh come to me
My midnight dream

Do all the things Ive told

Im gonna wait till the stars come out
To see the twinkle in your eyes
