Those Times

In these times
Where the sun recoiled
Into splintered allegories
I bask in the gouts of thoughts
In these gaunt path
Where sentiments
Slither like scales
In the very dermis
Of callowness
Behind the rainbow haze
The hurting is gravid
And the beauty is
A mystified lore

And In these times
Where the storms decline
The chance to disarray
The perfectly asinine
Threads of the loom
How intricate
The simplicity
Our taut ties
Woven in our tapestry
I saw what others can't
With purple eyes
And brambly diadems
I count and recount

And in these times
I count your heads
Like distant stars
Not a sweep of galaxy
Not milky, not plenty
But scattered points
That shudders and chills
As romantic as
The rapier
I recount how
The nebulas burst
But for now I count
The days that
Had caused it
To wan mordantly
From our skies

We used to be
The gears of the clock,
The svelte shadow
Of the sun dial;
But now we are
But faces in the sand
And stains of smile
In an unaddressed
Postcard
Reckoning
These times.

Hard Times

(stephen foster)
Let us pause in lifes pleasures and count its many tears
While we all sup sorrow with the poor.
Theres a song that will linger forever in our ears,
Oh, hard times, come again no more
tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay.
There are frail forms fainting at the door
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say,
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
Theres a pale drooping maiden who foils her life away
With a worn out heart, whose better days are oer.
Though her voice it would be merry, tis sighing all the day,
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my door.

Sugar Curls

You can count the stars
and the count will be incomplete.

You can count times
I've looked for you
in dreams
I've dreamed.

You can count the hours
I've marked,
my stomach knotting
etching time across my heart
since I've seen your face.

I know how many steps
to your house;
your phone number backwards;

the colors in your eyes,

how many sighs
I make
looking at your photograph.

If there in a number to infinity
then you can see me circling back;

starting again infinitely.

Lower me down to deepest depths
count my fathoms there
plumb these and more
for our ocean is endlessly
deep.

How many grains in beachy sand?
I know having sifted each.

What is the size of this love for you?
There is no count of instances,
for that is a number which cannot be reached.

Simply put
you count with me;
together we
count twice infinitely.

Oh so sweet
are the sugar
grains
whose white dotted
fractals
swirl
in our hearts;

rotating
Love Curls

circling
endlessly.

My Love

Oh how I wish I could save the times
that I have spent with you.
For if you leave I could take them out
and have them to review.

But since it is not the way things work
I must remember in my mind
All the times I could not save
and never leave any behind,

The times when we laughed, the times when we cried
and the times we just were still,
The times we embraced, the times we faced
when both of us were ill.

Not enough time is the time we have
and so it will run out.
So we must make them count and never forget
what we were all about.

Always There

I'm running away
I've got to get home
I'm lost in a crowd
But I'm still on my own
I'm looking ahead
So I'm staying behind
I'm not being cruel
I'm just being kind

I close my eyes
It's no surprise
I'm always there
Can't count the times
I've tried to hide
And found nowhere

I'm trying to lay low
But I keep getting high
My feet on the ground
Got my head in the sky
My eye on the future
That's stuck in the past
I find I can't lose
When I aim to come last

I realise
It's no surprise
That nothing's clear
That black is white
That day is night
And there is here

I'm right on the ball
But I'm missing the mark
I burn in the sun
I'm scared of the dark
Got an ivory tower
With a bird's eye view
Got plenty of time
But nothing to do

The best disguise
It's no surprise
Is disappear
Can't count the times
I've tried to hide
And found nowhere

I'm running away
I've got to get home
I'm lost in a crowd
But I'm still on my own
I'm looking ahead
So I'm staying behind
I'm not being cruel
I'm just being kind

Thats What Friends Are For

Oh i, never thought Id feel this way
And as far as Im concerned
Im glad Ive got a chance to to say
That I do believe I love you
And if i, I should ever go away
Well than close your eyes
And try to feel the way we do today
And then if you cant remember
Keep smiling (smiling)
Keep shining (shining)
Knowing you can always count on me
For sure
Thats what friends are for
For the good times (good times)
And the bad times (bad times)
Ill be on your side forevermore
Thats what friends are for
Yeah
And i, though you heard it all before
Well Ill tell you one more time
So I can be completely sure
So you know how much I love
And if I should ever go away
Well then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we feel this day
And then if you cant remember
Keep smiling (smiling)
Keep shining (shining)
Knowing you can always count on me
For sure
Thats what friends are for

They Don't Make Them Like They Used To

They dont make em like they used to, those guys
And I cant get used to the way that it is today
No one to look up to, hard times, and though I try
I just cant find the reason these days
And it seems like the seasons are passing me
Theyre going by, nothing to hold on to, rough times.
And it goes on, so count on me, and Ill count on you
You can lean on me, two of us stronger
We wont be alone any longer
Now and for always we will be good friends
Count on me, into any storm, were gonna survive it
Into any fire, well carry on.
Know that one day you and me will both be old friends
And well sit on the sofa and talk about how
They dont make em like they used to, youll see
As time goes on, so count on me, and Ill count on you
In a world like this, when nothings sure
And people are afraid, Ill be here for
Now and for always we will be good friends
Count on me, they dont make it now like they used to
Theyre not gonna last like you and me, Ill be there.
Oh, always we will be, year by year
Depend on me, into any storm, were gonna survive it
Into any fire, just count on me, Ill be there
Oh, tough guys, you and me, year by year
They will see, they dont make it now like they used to
Theyre not gonna last like you and me...

A Lesson From Escalante

It was an instant in eternity
Some words that strike and linger

Touch cords in one's humanity
With wisdom to make one ponder

In life we face inevitable truth
There is some failure and defeat

But lessons learned from these bear fruit
When falling comes, to rise and meet

Again to face life's challenges
To not bow down nor count the falling

But to write there boldly in life's pages
The many times one gets up... rising.

'In life, you don't count the many times you fall -
you count the many times you get up.'

Hard Times Come Again No More

Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears,
While we all sup sorrow with the poor;
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears;
Oh, hard times come again no more.

Chorus:

'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard times, hard times, come again no more,
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door,
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay,
There are frail forms fainting at the door;
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh, hard times come again no more.

Chorus

There's a pale drooping maiden who toils her life away,
With a worn heart whose better days are o'er:
Though her voice would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day,
Oh, hard times come again no more.

Chorus

'Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave,
'Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore,
'Tis a dirge that is murmured around the lowly grave,
Oh, hard times come again no more.

Call On Me

The feelin is clear
Clear as a blue sky on a sunny day
Everything was you
cause no one made me feel
The way I felt with you
Call on me cause
I love you
You know I do
You love me too
Then came a change
When I said I would soon be leavin you
Nothin else to do
Please remember Ill never lose the thought of you
Call on me cause
I love you
You know I do
You love me too
Youve got to find
Someone else to somehow take my place
Share his love with you
But if you need a friend
You can always count on me
Count on me cause
I love you
You know I do
You love me too
You can count on me oh
You can count on me
You can count on me baby
You can count on me
You can count on me oh
You can count on me
You can count on me baby
You can count on me
You can count on me oh
You can count on me
You can count on me baby
You can count on me
You can count on me oh
You can count on me

Can You Stand The Rain

On a perfect day
I know that I can count on you
When thats not possible
Tell me can you weather a storm
cause I need somebody who will stand by me
Through the good times and the bad times
She would always-always be right there
Sunny days everybody loves them-tell me baby
Can you stand the rain
Storms will come-this we know for sure
Can you stand the rain
Love unconditional
Im not asking just of you
Girl to make it last
Ill do whatever needs to be done
But I need somebody who will stand by me
When its tough she wont run
She would always be right there for me.

A Thought For Your Anniversary

Don't count your decade
By the days that fade
Don't count your years
By the falling tears

Don't count your weeks
By the days that were bleak
Don't count your days
By the trouble's ways

Instead count your decades
By the things you have made
Count your years
By joys and cheers

Count your weeks
When you helped out a meek
And count your days
By cheers and prayers

That was sent for both of you
Along with God's love that is true
Because you're starting another year
Of peace and blessings, love and care.

Harmless pastime for friend Thad

When I survey the skies at night.
I try to count the points of light
although I know it can’t be done
I still attempt to just for fun.

The light which we perceive today
has taken centuries they say.
To travel at the speed of light
from stars beyond our human sight.

Perhaps its true, perhaps its not
but does it matter. Not a lot.
The stars I think that I can see
are part of my reality.

Though they burnt out eons ago.
the speed of light seems very slow.
I see them as they used to be
and that is good enough for me.

I understand each is a sun
but still I count them just for fun.
Those distant twinkling points of light
To me a source of pure delight.

I like to sit and fantasise
about these beacons in the skies.
Set my imagination free
as I sit watching quietly.

I Don't Think So

I Don't Think So
We've been through this time together
AlI in my mind the love was so alive
Oh I never wanted for another
Then I saw the beginnings of a Iie
Good times and the bad times
Through the good times and the bad times with me
Good times and the bad times
Yeah I wonder why I never see
Good times and the bad times
Oh maybe there was always something wrong
Good times and the bad times
Did l wait too long
Chorus:
You said you'd love me for all of your life
I don't think so
Through the best of the best and the worst of the times
I don't think so
You said the world was a beautiful place
l don't think so
You swore the love was perfectly sale
I don't think so
People can only stay together
If in their hearts they know they can say what's on their minds
Would you say
Good times and the bad times
If it can't really be then I gotta move on
Good times and the bad times
Is it really time
Chorus: (repeat)
Said the check's in the mail and the maiI's on time
I don't think so
Said out of touch ain't out of mind
I don't think so
Couldn't live without me, and that's a fact
I don't think so
Love is real and it's not an act
I don't think so
Come on
Good times and the bad times
I don't think so
Good times and the bad times
Baby our love was a beautiful thing
I don't think so
Good times and the bad times
You said you'd love me for all of your life
I don't think so
Good times and the bad times
Through the best of the best and the worst of times
I don't think so
l don't think so baby oh baby oh baby come on
I don't think so
The love was right but the loving was wrong

Count It All As Joy

Count it all as joy!
Even the pain of living,
You believe has increased...
Can and will cease to be.
If the grip you hold.
Loosens to let grief go!
And,
That is okay...
If it goes away.
It is not meant to stay,
To have you in despair that way!
Count it all as joy!

If you did not experience sorrow,
How would you recognize happiness?
Count it all as joy!

If you did not know struggle...
Or a burden to bear.
How would you know a gladness,
That appeared in your heart to share?
Count it all as joy!

If you did not know loss,
And the agony connected.
How can you appreciate...
A peace of mind and reflect it?
Count it all as joy!

Even those rough times,
Appearing along your path...
Aren't there to paralyze you,
As obstacles in your view.
To subdue there to last!
Count it all as joy!

Trial and tribulations?
Even take 'them' and celebrate.
You are awaiting,
To be showered with treasures.
Know it and keep 'that' to anticipate.
Count it ALL as joy!

Maintain a steadfastness in your praises.
To God...
And do not for a moment,
Contemplate a doubt in hesitation.
God prepares every wish to be delivered.
Know you are blessed,
With each test you receive!
Perceiving 'this' as it is!
Depend on this.
And count it all as joy.

Dedicated:
Mrs. Eula Shamberger
Hartford, Connecticut

'Thank you, Eula.
This has been the first time I have been inspired
to begin and finish a composition in the presence
of the person who provided that inspiration!
We both were there in your office January 29th 2008
when you said 'Count It All As Joy'. And I could not
leave until this 'poem' was completed in its entirety!
THAT has never happened to me before. This was
indeed a message...a blessing! And I am very grateful! '

So Connected To You

There are times when I'm happy
and times when I'm sad
and all of these times that I have had
are all connected to you,
so connected to you.
so connected to you.

There are times when it's sunny
and times when it's not
and all of these times I never forgot
were all connected to you,
so connected to you.

'Cause you have my heart on a string
and I can't control one little thing.
Where's my composure? Where did it go?
'Can't even answer for I don't know.

There are times when I'm jumpy
and times when I'm still
and times when I'm playful
like Jack and Jill.
And they're all connected to you,
so connected to you.

So what do I do to get over you?
You've got me crazy in love with you.
I take a step forward and fall back two
and everywhere that I go
there'll be times when I want you
and times when I don't.
There'll be times that I'll have you
and times that I won't
but there's absolutely nothing I can do
'Cause I'm connected to you,
so connected to you
So I know we can never be through.

Count Me Out

Count me out
Count me out
Fellas want to hang
And save tonight just
For the gang
But youll have to count me
Out this time
If I cant bring my girl
Dont look surprised
When I tell you that
Gotta spend some time
With my baby, yes
So if that means
Were gonna rain on
Your parade
Youll have to count me out
Youre gonna have to count me
Out
Youll have to count me out
I wanna be with my girlfriend
Youll have to count me out
This time
Youll have to count me out
When she asked me please
Could I say no and feel at
Ease
If you count me out tonight
Shes gonna be with me wherever
I go
Shes got a sweet personality
She saves her kisses just for me
So if that means were gonna rain on
Your parade
Youll have to count me out
Youre gonna have to count
Me out
Youll have to count me out
Im saving kisses for my baby
Youll have to count me out

And when I need her I say please,
Please, please

Then to the park, to play a little
Ball till it get dark
