My beloved Spider!
She weaves a strong Cobweb;
And I asked why darling
I am getting Sixty very soon?
Sixties are the naughtiest
And she cries in Beatitude!

Perhaps I'll Never Again See Old Clara Mountain
I'm getting on in years and looking older even than my age of two years with three score
And perhaps I'll never again see old Clara Mountain and climb the high fields up through Claramore
In Claraghtalea I started my life's journey but I'm not to know where and when that journey will end
In sixty two years I've known a lot of people but not everyone I've known I'd call a friend
I often think about the Town of Millstreet where mine once was a fairly well known face
Though there today I well might be a stranger a stranger even in my old Homeplace
I am one of many migrants from Duhallow for to try my luck in the big World out there
Duhallow people are known to be travellers and one from there one could meet anywhere
I often think of those I went to school with many of them the grandparents of today
Perhaps the years have left them looking older even some of them with the departed lay
It has been many years since I've last seen them the years eventually do tell on all
On looking back our young years went so quickly and for everyone of us a final Fall
Perhaps I'll never again see old Clara Mountain or walk in the fields where the rank rushes grow
In Claraghatlea I began my life's journey but where and when that journey will end I'm not to know.

Books I Read
I was once asked
what sort of books I read.
To be honest
I never gave it much thought.
I read all sorts of books
from crime fiction to poetry,
by many assorted authors.
I read literary classics
and some not so classic at all.
If they asked me
who my favourite author is,
again I’d be in confusion there too.
However a few of the names
that spring to mind are,
F Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck,
Ernest Hemmingway, James Herriot,
Agatha Christie, Edgar Wallace
and surprisingly enough Mickey Spillane.
I have no favourite author
of any particular genre
as I only read
how I feel at the time.

Here Comes The Sun
George harrison
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say its all right
Little darling, its been a long cold lonely winter little darling, it feels like years since its been here here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say its all right
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces little darling, it seems like years since its been here here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say its all right
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting little darling, it seems like years since its been clear here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say its all right
Its all right

Listen, my day job is also Chief Creative Officer for Marvel, and it's a very painful job because we publish a lot of books, and there are things I see where I can punch people out. Therefore, we have some new people now, and the kids are going to read our books.
Write Yours Now
The 'Journal of Death Studies' for April2004
(maybe you read it? It's in the
hospital library, top shelf
just out of wheelchair reach,
on the shelf labelled 'Reference')
observed that
nonfiction writers tend to die, factually, at sixty-eight;
novelists tie it all up at sixty-six;
playwrights lower the curtain at sixty-three,
and poets close their stanzas at sixty-two.
Well, thanks..
six years - looking on the bright side -
for your favourite biographer to write you up;
four years for novelists to borrow
your untidy life and win the Booker Prize;
a year for playwrights to emulate
the bitter dialogue of your later,
less romantic household years
with less fear of being sued.
Those whom the gods love, die young,
said the optimistic poet
shortly before he died.
for PoHo, who gave me the damn book with the reference in.
And yes, I wondered too..

The Romance Of A Book
Reading a book, you're hit by romance,
No matter the subject matter,
You can read and read,
And every book is different,
Some stories are more pleasant than others,
While some are funny, but most are serious,
For the romance of a book,
Is in everyone's heart,
No matter their age or height,
Whether male or female:
It is all relative and I devour,
Each and every book,
I can read the classics,
Or even a heart-warming romance,
I just get through so many books,
I love every storyline,
Not so much the gory parts,
But the cleverness of the fictional detectives,
And those rock stars that roam the stage,
For a book is something that will never age,
No matter how many years on the shelf,
And stories can be shared with everyone else,
Yet everyone has their own views,
And books can be lifting when they're feeling blue,
For people have been reading fiction for centuries,
But, of course, not all books are fictional:
There're the historical books, interesting,
Even if a reader is just passing through,
And we can all learn something from the history books,
And let's not forget the autobiographies:
Many a man and woman fascinating,
Having lead unique lives and having had special loves,
And there is a romance to these people,
For they walked the same earth as everyone else,
Yet brought something strange and special to the world,
Like a scientist making a new discovery,
Or a rock star penning a hit song,
And all these things are which make books belong,
I haven't met anyone yet who finds books boring,
Because books are not boring: they are fascinating,
Unique, special, strange, romantic and enjoyable,
And every reader's dream: like hitting 'play' on a record,
For this is the romance of a book.

It's different in Scotland. People who come to readings are more interested in literature as such, but the readership in general is really quite diverse. It's a cliche, but it's said that people who read my books don't read any other books, and you do get that element.

Sexy AT Sixty
I was fit and feisty at fifty
It was no big deal
Because that's how half a century
Is supposed to feel.
In my sixties I'll take stock
Start making new plans
Ignoring all the cant's
Embracing all the can's.
Can I be sexy at sixty?
And try all the fashion and fads
Wear stockings an suspenders
And Joan Collins shoulder pads.
I can deal with sexy at sixty
And wear Vivienne Westwood clothes
Dress up and go out on the town
Wearing all my buttons and bows.
I'm going to be sexy at sixty
I'll wear Gok Wan lingerie
Find myself a toy boy
Then maybe lead him astray.
Swift and sexy at sixty
When I get my Jimmy Choos
Dancing the night away
To the sound of Rhythm and Blues.
Oh! I want to be sexy at sixty
Cause age is a state of mind
I'm preparing my body at keep fit
So as not to be left behind.
But first I have to deal with
Old skin, bad teeth, grey hair
Then remove the unwanted growths
From just about everywhere.
Then! I'll definitely be sexy at sixty
And undoubtedly done it all
The only problem is that most of it
I simply won't recall.

You left your skeletons.....
Our eyes met with beautiful love.....
I knew you were mine....sent from above.
We worked together like perfect souls...
I never looked past as happiness grows,
Things got harder with each child.
Your eyes....they started turning wild.
Too much? ? ?
Too hard? ? ?
Your mother and I talked today....
your other families would like to meet
our kids....someday
People I don't even know...
want the pieces of me you left on the floor.
Your son cries,
Confusion, in his eyes.
So disgusted at the person you truly are...
I'm bleeding today...from your damned scar.
So what should I tell my kids? ? ?
Don't feel so bad....
come meet the other children that
don't know their dad.
I hate.....
I've never hated like this before.
I can't heal....
I can't close the door.
Your skeletons keep
pushing their way in.....
All I can do is lift my chin.
I hope things are better
in your new invented life....
I'm so sorry I was ever your wife! !

Pleased to meet you, how do you do?

For My Sister On Her Sixty- Fifth Birthday
FOR MY SISTER ON HER SIXTY- FIFTH BIRTHDAY
Where have the years gone?
My sister -
The most beautiful the kindest little girl on First Street Troy New York
Is sixty-five years old today-
Where have the years gone?
How can I ever thank her
For the devotion with which she cared for my parents
In those most difficult last years?
How can I ever say how much her being the only witness
Left with me of that world then
Means to me?
How can I say how happy I am for her
That she has raised with her husband
Four loving and caring daughters
That she made quite late in life
A name and career for herself?
Above all that she is still the good caring person
Who with her mother’s practicality
Makes the best of what life gives.
My prayer is for health and blessing for her
And her family
In the years ahead.
God gave me only one sister
Thank God it is Joycie.

Here Comes The Sun (Live With Ringo & Eric Clapton )
Here comes the sun (du dn du du)
Here comes the sun
And I say
It's alright
Little darling
It's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling
It feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun
And I say
It's alright
Little darling
The smiles returning to the faces
Little darling
It seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun
And I say
It's alright
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes (four times)
Little darling
I feel that the ice is slowly melting
Little darling
It seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun (du dn du du)
Here comes the sun
And I say
It's alright
Here comes the sun (Du du du du)
Here comes the sun
It's alright
It's alright

Bu$hleaguer
How does he do it? How do they do it? Uncanny and immutable.
This is such a happening tailpipe of a party.
Like sugar, the guests are so refined.
A confidence man but why so beleagued?
He's not a leader he's a Texas leaguer.
Swinging for the fence. Got lucky with a strike.
Drilling for fear makes the job simple.
Born on third. Thinks he got a triple.
Blackout weaves its way through the cities.
Blackout weaves its way through the cities.
Blackout weaves its way.
I remember when you sang that song about today.
Now it's tomorrow and everything has changed.
A think tank of aloof multiplication.
A nicotine wish and a columbus decanter.
Retrenchment and hoggishness.
The aristocrat choir sings, "What's the ruckus?"
The haves have not a clue.
The immenseness of suffering.
And the odd negotiation. A rarity.
With onionskin plausibility of life.
And a keyboard reaffirmation.
Blackout weaves its way through the cities.
Blackout weaves its way through the cities.
Blackout weaves its way.
I remember when you sang that song about today.
Now it's tomorrow and everything has changed.

Resentment
I came across a man today,
Who years ago, did me wrong.
Although the time had come to pass,
My resentments were still, so strong.
I looked into this man's green eyes.
As gentle as they were.
The past he left, I could not pass.
My anger inside did stir.
He looked at me, the man he said,
'You look like someone I know.'
I replied to him, 'Yes, I am.'
My anger, I did not show.
I wheeled the man, down the hall,
To a courtyard, at the end.
The man he asked, in a gentle voice,
'Are you one I call friend? '
'Yes, I am.' I then placed my hand,
On his frail, and skinny arm.
This man who was like a baby now,
Had once caused me so much harm.
The man, he had no idea,
Of the pain he once inflicted.
Although my emotions were very strong.
To my love, I was convicted.
I spent the day, sitting with this man.
As I did, each and every day.
And every morning, his day was new,
Yet the same things he would say.
I wheeled the man back to his room.
I placed him in his bed.
I walked to the door, and turned out the light
'Nice to meet you.' The man, he said.
I returned the next day to see the man,
But his bed, was already made.
I knew the man, that night he left,
Now, I wish he could have stayed.
All those years that I held onto,
The things, I should have let go.
Resentment of things, that had come to pass.
The man, didn't even know.
In the end, they robbed me blind,
Of the time, I could have shared.
The man in my mind, he was a monster.
But in truth, he really cared.
Hold on to what is truly dear,
For one day, we all must leave.
Resentments, we must let them go,
Wear our hearts, upon our sleeve.
To them, we are held prisoner,
For it is they, that commit the crime.
They will rob you of your peace and joy.
And they will rob you of your time.

Drowning
Oh it sounds like a fire in store
Holding down while the tides are strong
I survive a wave but now I'm gone
How am I to change the damage done?
Maybe today, today we die [2]
Give us and take away the cries
Baby today we die
There's a fire in the wind and the oxygen
Brings a round of a .........
And I gave you the rain you claimed the sun
When I took it away you came undone
Even the rain can take the sun
Take it away and file into the light
Where everyone just waits to find
Another thing to steal that's mine
It's unbelievable human kind
It's unbelievable
It's like a pain
Pain..now
How come everybody's doing different then they've said
Complaining that their living and they'd rather be dead
Always part of the ......
So many things that he don't know
Baby today, today we die [2]
Forgive us and take away the cries
Baby today we'll die
[Reprise]
I've had hard time thinking
I've had the hardest fall
I'm drowning and now I'm sinking into it all
Remember the words of someone
Someone I used to know
Love everyone but keep them
Far from your soul

A Man For The Ladies
He was the young dad of the sixties he is the old man of today
Married and divorced for the third time that's life as some are known to say
He is seven times a great grandfather one might say his flock multiply
And he is not yet finished with women he says he will give marriage at least one more try,
He is now with one twenty years younger a divorcees of forty one
At the wooing of far younger women he surely is second to none
Some women like their men much older for the father figure they do fall
When it comes to understanding people I know that I know little at all
He was sixty one on his last birthday with brown hair dye he covers his gray
And when it comes to dress and appearance attention to detail he pay
one might say a man for the ladies at wooing them he has known success
His chat up lines seem to be flawless all of the right buttons he seems to press
Yes surely a man for the ladies younger women fall for him in a big way
Yet in love he likes a new challenge and with one he does not seem to stay.
