Daddy why did you leave Mommy before I was born?
Daddy why weren't you there for my birth?
Daddy why did you divorce Mommy when I was only five months old?
Daddy why did you day those mean things about Mommy?

Daddy why weren't you there for my first birthday?
Daddy why weren't you there when I took my first step?
Daddy why weren't you there when I got hurt?
Daddy why weren't you there when I became a teenager?

Daddy you're not going to be there when I turn 16.
Daddy you're not going to be there when I graduate from high school.

My Daddy

My daddy was never there for me.
My daddy always drank.
My daddy told me I was worthless and unworthy of his time.
My daddy was the one who made me, but also broke me.

My daddy never came to my birthday parties.
My daddy came to my 5Th grade graduation drunk as can be.
My daddy would walk into my room every night with a belt in his hand.
My daddy was the one who shattered all my dreams.

My daddy wouldn't let me sleep until he hit me.
My daddy would tell me I'm nothing but a piece of crap.
My daddy was the one who tore my life into pieces.
My daddy is not my daddy any more...
He can be your daddy if you'll take him.

That man I called my daddy, he never was truly a daddy.

But he was still my daddy.

Daddy's Girl

Going to school she learned to read and write
So much is new and life's full of wrong and right
Homework is done life has just begun
Hello world here's daddy's girl
Waking up early morning living in her own place
Taking a shower staring in the mirror at a tired face
Something for breakfast doing her face
Feeding her pet just like every other day
Still she isn't knowing when she's locking the door and going to her work
That in the morning next day she won't sleep alone
Later on in the evening she'll be riding on a feeling
Still she's somehow gonna be needing just a beer more or two
Daddy's girl, here's daddy's little girl
Daddy's girl, here's daddy's little girl
Party and music feels like this night could last a lifetime
Ain't gonna lose this feeling tonight she'll leave it all behind
A kiss and a hug from one of those guys
But she leaves with another in a cab in the night

Hands of Fathers and Sons

Full from the heart without a sealant of coy,
Five little fingers curled to daddy's thumb,
To his lips in render of his unmeasured joy,
A kiss of truth that only father could add up.

Full of strength without defiance of charm,
Now bigger fingers grapple to daddy's arm,
To his balding head tap by surprising defeat,
Sense of truth that son to father's no threat.

Full of love but without resistance of shame,
Two open hands locked to weakening frame,
That was once so gentle and fragile to hold,
The etymon of truth, future is now foretold.

That long before he's the son; he's the father,
With same name to carry, write, and spell,
Either left or right, these hands will not falter,
Their strength to give and care is their will.
