In the spirit of Rumi - 62 - Religion

The witness said
this is what I saw

no other witnesses were present at the time,
none of the jury were there of course,
the judge was not there

some of the jury said
if he says so I believe him,
some of the jury said
how do I know that's the truth

they listened,
his eyes shone;
their hearts listened,
their eyes shone;

yes they said,
that's true

Can't Judge Beauty

Truth is beauty and lies are ugly but what about the in between, can justice exist without injustice and what about the jury they say there is a little truth to every lie beauty seen in just the right light. In the eye of the beholder we can never really predict what they'll see, no one day is ever really the same, can a lie become truth in the future? an ugly duckling that will transform into a swan or will a hungry predator eat it before it can reach it's final stage. Only time will reveal eventual truths if they can survive that long if the jury finds it not guilty and the judge is not so harsh

What 'Is' Tasteless?

What 'is' tasteless?

Hmmm...
Let's see.
Someone attempting to define it,
For others.
And in doing so trys to determine,
What is appropriate etiquette...
To then demand what IS or IS NOT,
Accepted taste.
As if a quorum has delegated,
What will or will 'not' take place.

'But that is not deciding what 'is' tasteless.
That is censorship.'

Hey...
When someone wants to limit,
Anyone's exposure to what is available...
With an infliction of restrictions,
They, who select themselves as judge and jury...
Make those choices amongst themselves,
For fear of raising a consciousness.

'But...
Isn't that ignorance? '

No!
I don't think so.
I would think that would be called...
A preference to ignore reality.

'Well...
It is all quite immature to me.'

And neither are you judge or jury.
You have not been qualified,
To be among the selected few!
Your time has 'yet' to arrive to decide,
Just how broad someone's eyes are allowed to open.
And how wide.

Drifters Escape

Oh, help me in my weakness,
I heard the drifter say,
As they carried him from the courtroom
And were taking him away.
My trip hasnt been a pleasant one
And my time it isnt long,
And I still do not know
What it was that Ive done wrong.
Well, the judge, he cast his robe aside,
A tear came to his eye,
You fail to understand, he said,
Why must you even try?
Outside, the crowd was stirring,
You could hear it from the door.
Inside, the judge was stepping down,
While the jury cried for more.
Oh, stop that cursed jury,
Cried the attendant and the nurse,
The trial was bad enough,
But this is ten times worse.
Just then a bolt of lightning
Struck the courthouse out of shape,
And while evrybody knelt to pray
The drifter did escape.

Show Dont Tell

Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
How many times do you hear it?
It goes on all day long
Everyone knows everything
And no ones ever wrong
Until later
Who can you believe?
Its hard to play it safe
But apart from a few good friends
We dont take anything on faith
Until later
Show dont tell
Show me dont tell me
Youve figured out the score
Show me dont tell me
Ive heard it all before
Show me dont tell me
I dont care what you say
Show me dont tell me
You can twist perceptions
Reality wont budge
You can raise objections
I will be the judge
And the jury
Ill give it due reflection
Watching from the fence
Give the jury direction
Based on the evidence
I, the jury
Show me dont tell me
Hey --- order in the court
Show me dont tell me
Lets try to keep it short
Show me dont tell me
Enough of your demands
Show me dont tell me
Witness take the stand
Show me dont tell me
Show me dont tell me
Hey --- order in the court
Show me dont tell me
Lets try to keep it short
Show me dont tell me
I dont care what you say

Electric Guitar

Electric guitar gets run over by a car on the highway
This is a crime against the state
This is the meaning of life.
To tune this electric guitar
An electric guitar is brought in to a court of law
The judge and the jury (twelve members of the jury)
All listening to records
This is a crime against the state
This is the verdict they reach:
Never listen to electric guitar
Electric guitar is copies, the copy sounds better
Call this the law of justice, call this freedom and liberty
I thought I perjure myself, right infront of the jury!
Is this a crime against the state? no!
This is the verdict they reach:
Someone controls electric guitar.

I should have listened to God

I should have listened to God
When he said that it would end
I should have listened to God
And been just friends

I should have listened to God
Before it was too late
I should have listened to God
But now I deal with fate

I should have listened to God
That it would break my heart
I should have listened to God
That it would fall apart

I should have listened to God
Because he loves me in everyway
I should have listened to God
And all that he had to say

I should have listened to God
And show what he made me to be
I should have listened to God
But I know he has forgiven me!

She Stands By Her Son

He is a serial killer and awful things he has done
But his mother says he is not guilty and she stands by her son
A jury found him guilty but with their verdict she does not agree
She says my son is innocent i believe what he told me
That he did not murder those women the jury got it wrong
For him forty years in prison is forty years too long
For one completely innocent of any serious crime
The jury they erred badly they got it wrong this time
Though human blood and hair found on the bodies of the victims of foul play
According to the lab technicians did match his D N A
But there must have been a mix up and grieved am i to say
that for the crimes of some evil one my innocent son must pay
And all others say he is guilty she is the only one
To say that he is innocent she won't forsake her son.

Judge & Jury

Artist(Band):98 Mute
(Print the Lyrics)
Why must you insist on constant analysis
Why can you just get over it
Got a mind of my own
I can not be your clone
Ive got my own road to follow
Don't try to change my ways
Don't try to twist my fate
Don't try to program me or censor the words I say
Don't humor me and then secretly disapprove
Cause it will only turn me off and against you
Don't try to be my judge and jury
Don't try to pass sentence on me
Don't try to be my judge and jury
Don't try to pass sentence on me
Your endless scrutiny will cause my mutiny
Your rule Your reign is past my warranty
Here's where I make my stand you never stood a chance
I will not do that song and dance
Try and make me over now
You'll drag us both down
Somewhere neither of us wants to be
Respect how I live my life
And ill consider your advice
Cause it will mean so much more to me

Out In The Open

They were the sweetest words I'd ever heard
My heart could barely take it in
Like water offered to the lips
Of a tired and thirsty man
Cuz it's a tangled web of woven
I don't know all the reasons
But it amazes me to wake up
To your mercy every morning
So I'm standing here spinning around
In the fields of freedom
And I'm still alive and reaching out
And I can feel the healing
Cuz you say
Come on out come on out
Come on out come on out
Out in the open
Come on out come on out
Come on out come onout
Into the light
There is no jury
There is no judge
Ready and waiting
Are the steady arms of love 124
For the sake of never making waves I
Kept my secrets to myself
And no one ever really knew the
Darker shadows of my heart
But I will be a witness
That there's nothing in me dark enough
The power of forgiveness
Cannot resuce from the deep
So I'm standing here spinning around
In the fields of freedom
And I'm still alive and reaching out
And I can feel the healing
And you say
Come on out come out
Come on out come out
Out in the open
Come on out come on out
Come on out come on out
Into the light
There is no jury
There is no judge
Ready and waiting
Are a steady arms of love 240
Hey
And I'm standing here spinning around
In the fields of freedom
And I'm still alive
And reaching out
And I can feel the healing
Come on out come on out
Come on out come on out

Come on out come on out
Come on out come on out
Into the light
There is no jury
There is no judge
Ready and waiting
Are the steady arms of love
Come on out come on out
Come on out come on out
Out in the open
Come on out come on out
Come on out come on out

Come on out come on out
Come on out come on out

Murder, In The First Degree

He went to a public library that's quiet and free;
Arrested, he was, for murder, in the first degree;

Inside the library, there was a book to find,
Slowly he approached his victim, an ol' woman who's kind;

Close to her backside, he stood lurking behind,
Little ol' granny was reading and paid him no mind;

The quick use of his weapon caused her to dropp dead on the spot,
It was the eyeball witness who saw, that's how he got caught;

Now the jury must see the weapon that t'was horribly used,
But the killer tried to hide his nose and loudly refused;

So her death that came from his loud sharp sneeze,
Made her heart quickly stop, quiver, and seize;

So his hands were shackled, the murder weapon viewed,
The jury gasped loudly for air, outraged was their mood;

Soon after his shnozzle was clearly depicted,
The jury was unanimous, ... they quickly convicted.

Prisoner on Trial

Who are you to judge me on whom I really am?
Who are you to decide my life journey?
What gives you right to know what's best for me?
What gives you the authority to decide what I am and am not capable of doing?
Most certainly not you! You live your life and I will live mine.
I'm tired of feeling like a prisoner on trial.
Giving the jury the power to decide my fate.
Feeling like I'm guilty for every little move that I make.
Always scared to go against the jury's verdict.
Feeling like my life I'm living is not my own.
Always responding the way people expect me too.
Even if it goes against what I believe.
All I want to is break free of these chains and live my life without every move being examined through a microscope.

I Wish To Get Paid For The Publicity

I have been mentally harrassed.
And my mind has been taken,
To inapproriate places.
Leaving my imagination...
To become,
Touched with such a disturbing hold...
I can not sleep peacefully at night,
With unsolicited thoughts...
I have never had before.

'And...
When exactly did this happen,
To merit your charges against...
The defendant? '

It doesn't matter.
It happened.
And besides a wealth of media coverage,
I desire my accusations to pay for a life of leisure...
I am due,
Just for having the audacity to make such ridiculous claims.
Enough.
Let's get down to business.

'And you expect us to find fault with the defendant,
Based upon your foolishness?
You are relying on the public,
To be the judge and jury? '

I expect my 'foolishness',
As you put it...
To be as legitimate as the rest of the 'foolishness',
That has today become prioritized.
AND...
Judge and jury courting whatever the laws may be,
I wish to get paid for the publicity coming to you FREE...
Since I alone created to generate overwhelming TV ratings.

Political Arena

It was a political arena that he was in
A political arena where they said he could not win.
He was fighting for the rights of man
Someone had to take a stand.
His religious rights were being denied
They said he was a war activist which was a lie.
He believed in the commandment “thou shall not kill”
They wanted to take away his rights of “ free will”.
So his lawyer went to court, and fought
With everything that he was taught.

He knew he had a battle up ahead
But it was a fight he did not dread.
Civil rights were being denied
Freedom to all should apply.
They went to court the very next day
He knew the jury he would have to sway.
He started debating how he should start
When a deep feeling pierced his heart.

He told the jury: if this had been GODS will
He would have taught us how to kill.
Can you find it in your heart to take another mans life
And leave a person without a husband, family, children, wife.
Those words penetrated deep into their minds.
It did not take them very much time.

“ NOT GUILTY” we the jury do find.

0013 The Witness Box

It was a minor court case –
a matter of a market trader
selling maybe stolen goods,
the police attempting, probably not for the first time,
to get clear evidence to nail him…

but for those serving on a jury
for the first time, an occasion
full of all the solemn majesty of law;
the difficulties of following court proceedings;
weighing the evidence; and most of all,
the fear of convicting an innocent man –
even, as visibly here, a slippery man to deal with.
The court was small; almost intimate.

After the grubby, vague, sometimes seemingly irrelevant
prosecution claims (points being made that
a jury would not appreciate, involving finer points of law) -
and, months after the event,
policemen reading from notes they took of the case
which were as evidence, more like a crime half seen, and
half assumed, the accused took the witness stand

and as he took the last two steps towards the stand
I witnessed an extraordinary moment, even with
his back to me – for two seconds at the most, you could see
the burden of a lifetime's criminality fall from his shoulders;
in this moment of pure, beautiful grace:
something within him knew that this was the given moment
to ‘come clean’ once and forever…

before me stood, for a single glimpse,
the human being in primal innocence.
So when he took the witness stand
and declared himself not guilty
at was, at one level, manifestly true..

He took the stand; swore on the holy book
to tell the truth, the whole truth,
and nothing but the truth;
and lied and lied and lied – so obviously,
that to my astonishment, the judge intervened,
leaned over to him and said in almost motherly tones,
‘Mr Smith – why is it that whenever you are asked
a question.. you tell..a lie? ’…

In the courtroom, a breathless pause;
(the defence lawyers can’t have been too pleased
to hear this condemnation by implication) :

‘It’s me nature, ma’am’ was the sincere and miserable reply..

The police failed to convince us of his guilt – although
we quessed they’d been after him for some time;
we let him off; but in that moment which was unforgettable,
I’d seen innocence and guilt within one man.

The Masters Eyes

How the light shone from the master
How the light shone from the master
How the light shone from the masters eyes
Or how the truth shone, from the master
How the truth shone, from the master
How the truth shone, from the masters eyes
Why didnt they leave us to wander through battered summers
Why didnt they leave us to wander when there was no other
And my questions all were answered
When the light shone from the master
When the light shone, from the masters eyes
From the masters eyes. oh how the light shone (etc.)

The Birmingham Six

They came out of prison
To face the real world
Those long-suffering men,
Seventeen years they had served.
Seventeen years for a bomb crime
They did not commit...how can we
Be so wrong, when on the Jury
we sit.

I quote words from
Gilbert and Sullivan's
Trial by Jury:

'Now, jurymen, hear my advice.
All kinds of vulgar prejudice
I pray you set aside.
With stern judicial frame of mind
From bias free of every kind
This Trial must be tried'.

Sweet And Tender Hooligan

he was a sweet and tender hooligan
and he swore that he'd never, never do it again
and of course he won't (not until the next time)
poor old man
he had an "accident" with a three bar fire
but that's OK
because he wasn't very happy anyway
poor woman
strangled in her very own bed as she read
but that's OK
because she was old and she would have died anyway
DON"T BLAME
this sweet and tender hooligan
because he'll never, never do it again
(at least not until the next time)
So jury you've heard every world
but before you decide
would you look into those "Mother-me" eyes
I love life for you my love, you my love
you my love, you my love
So jury you've heard ever word
but before you decide
would you look into those "Mother-me" eyes
I love you for you my love, you my love
I love you just for you my love, you my love
don't blame
the sweet and tender hooligan
who claims that
"In the midst of life we are in debt ETC"
ETC! ETC! ETC! ETC!
IN THE MIDST OF LIFE WE ARE IN DEBT ETC
