All-Encompassing Grin

Slight headache now is a vortex of discomfort in which I am
twisting and turning as pressure increases, all sense of res-
ponsibility lost, forced to visit a doctor for antibiotics to com-
bat infection or whatever is wreaking such havoc

Cannot watch the screen, no coherent sentence forms as I
read; all I know is strangulation and suffocation - existing in
such a concentration camp situation means I am wasting
the minutes of my life in existential pain

Altruism attempt came to naught, vampires rejected my offering;
72 hours before donating no medication may be taken; the pill I
took this morning disqualifies me thus I cannot realize my
philanthropic desire to be of service to my fellow men

Frontal brain lobes have closed down, reduced to the reptilian
brain stem which reacts with fight and flight to stimuli, shall see
the quack on Wednesday to tame rebellious brain cells that
refuse to fire even when serotonin is secreted

Complaints would mess up my evening at home, now I must
suppress these thoughts and lift my chin, nose in the air,
wearing an all-encompassing grin…

Bad Brain

I used to be an A student
I never used to complain
I used to be a truant
But I'm still the same
Bad bad brain
Bad bad brain
I used to go to parties
I used to drink champagne
Now I'm beginning to feel the strain
Bad bad brain
I used to be in show biz
I used to have fortune and fame
I used to have pleasure and pain
I used to have a name
Bad bad brain
Now I'm on the Bowery
I can't remember my name
Bad bad brain
Bad bad brain
Bad bad brain...bad bad brain...

My Bad-Habit Past

Nothing blocks evil effect of fatty food
ate last night's dinner at work; voilà, a
big headache that stops my brain and
fills my mind with mist, thick and grey

I can't operate, clear thinking recedes
life turns into a faint mirage, all I know
is discomfort, pressure and pain - let
this be a lesson: no more fatty foods

that render me almost comatose and
cloud my thoughts until only one idea
remains: death seems to be the only
release - all for sausage and cheese

No more, I shall only feast on salads
and green vegetables - I refuse to be
a prisoner of my bad-habit past, new
routines will bring back my joy in life

If I Only Had A Brain (feat. Jewel, Images, Ry Cooder & David Sanborn)

(from the soundtrack album The Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Do Come True; performed by Jackson Browne backed by Ry Cooder & David Sanborn)
See, I can't scare anybody.
They come from miles around
To laugh in my face and eat in my field.
Said a scarecrow swinging on a pole,
To some blackbirds sittin' on a fence,
"Oh, the Lord gave me a soul,
But, forgot to give me common sense."
Said the blackbirds, "Well, well, well.
What the thunder would you do with common sense?"
Said the scarecrow,"Would be pleasin'
just to reason out the reason
of the wishes and the whyness and the whence"
If I had an once of common sense...
(If he had an ounce of common sense)
(Well, what would you do Scarecrow?")
I would while away the hours
Conferin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.
I'd unravel every riddle,
For every individle,
In trouble or in pain.
With the thoughts I'd be thinkin',
I could be another Lincoln,
If I only had a brain.
Oh I-- could tell you why,
The ocean's near the shore.
I could think of things I never thought before,
Then I'd sit-- and think some more.
I would not be just a nothin',
my head all full of stuffin',
My heart all full of pain.
I would dance and be merry,
Life would be a dingle derry,
If I only had a brain.
If I only had a brain--
(If he only had a brain.)
I could tell you why
The ocean's near the shore.
I could think of things I never thought before
And then I'd sit-- and think some more.
Ya, it would be kind of pleasin'
To reason out the reason,
for the things I can't explain.
Then perhaps I'd deserve you,
and be even worthy of you,
If I only had a brain.
I could dance and by merry,
Life would be a dingle derry,
If I only had a brain.
If I only had a brain.

Depressed Vilanelle

They say depression's like exhaustion of the brain
And medication's there to help us cope.
A daily tablet keeps me nearly sane

When life brings sorrow over and again
The mind lacks even energy to mope,
They say depression's like exhaustion of the brain.

All passion and desire go down the drain
Soon followed by enthusiasm, hope,
A daily tablet keeps me nearly sane.

Give up the struggle. What is there to gain?
Recovery becomes a slippery slope.
They say depression's like exhaustion of the brain.

But medication's there to ease the pain,
Reduce the gradient as back to life we grope:
A daily tablet keeps me nearly sane.

So praise the Prozac in sonnet or quatrain.
It keeps a chap from Paraquat or rope.
They say depression's like exhaustion of the brain:
A daily tablet keeps me nearly sane.

Life means more

Life means imagination; the ability to perceive and
dream beyond the absolutely extraordinary,

Life means observation; the magical prowess to imbibe
the maximum out of the stupendously magnificent
surroundings,

Life means seduction; the uncanny desire of being
tantalized every second to the most unprecedented
limits,

Life means devotion; the immortal virtue of being
obsessed with the entity you uninhibitedly cherish and
love,

Life means fascination; the incessant entrenchment
perpetuated by all the mesmerizing beauty wandering on
this planet,

Life means God; Life means perennially unending; Life
means more….

Life means grandiloquent; the royally majestic sights
embedded on the trajectory of this boundless planet,

Life means benevolent; the philanthropic element to
help all those fellow compatriots in inexplicable
misery and tumultuous pain,

Life means turbulent; the vivacious swirl of rampant
thoughts and emotions; that engulf one's countenance
by storm,

Life means fragrant; the profusely redolent aroma;
which emanated from the voluptuous conglomerate of
lotus in the pond,

Life means prudent; the incomprehensible ability of
the human brain to act the most sagaciously in every
situation,

Life means God; Life means perennially unending; Life
means more….

Life means unfathomable; the paradise existing beyond
unprecedented corridors of perception,

Life means unconquerable; the aura of invincible love
encompassing the soul; which never could die,

Life means unbelievable; the astoundingly amazing
string of incidents which sporadically intruded;
simply beyond any power of comprehension,

Life means unimaginable; the land which unfurled
afresh; after each ounce of perceivable perception had
completely exhausted,

Life means God; Life means perennially unending; Life
means more….

Life means fabulous; more insurmountably enchanting
than the silken puffs of voluptuously crimson clouds,

Life means mysterious; deluged with a myriad of
baffling puzzles at every step you alighted,

Life means mischievous; as boisterously vivacious as
the grin of a newly born infant; as poignant as the
tear dropp gushing from his eyes,

Life means adventurous; inundated with exuberant spice
as each second unleashed; plunging into the valley of
ravishing excitement,

Life means perilous; sandwiched mystically with
dangerous impediments; which made a person rise from
the ashes; in his fight for holistic survival,

Life means incredulous; the greatest gift for every
tangible organism to be bestowed upon with; exist in
unison till the Almighty Lord commanded,
Life means God; Life means perennially unending; Life
means more….

S.i.b.

Got a nervous kind of feeling
Got a painful yellow headache
Every picture in every magazine's turned real
Every face looks out and screams at me too real
Cold sweat on my collar
Dripping to my boots
The waves of nauseous pain
Sets off the pressure pad alarms
Gotta get outta here
Gotta get outta here
Gotta get outta here
Gotta get outta here
Gotta painful swelling brain
Banging in my head
Gotta painful swelling brain
And i called off sick
Gotta swelling itching pain
Got me pulling out my hair
Gotta swelling itching pain
Clutching at my brain
Got me laying on the floor
Think i left my senses
Seems like endless torture
Got me pulling out my hair
Driving me up the wall
Dripping out my eyes ears nose and mouth
Imploding my thoughts
Blasting holes in the front lawn now
Going outta my skull
Burning up my thoughts
Tearing me apart

To One Who Bade Him Work

EACH day Work bids my heart anew,
Fold wings and watch my brain at play;
But brain and heart will fly your way,
And find their natural home in you!
Come to me--'tis the only way!

For heart and brain have had to learn
Such carrier-pigeon feats of flight,
That were you here, my heart's delight,
My brain and heart to Work would turn,
Spread wings, and flutter from your sight.

Aspirin Damage

I get these killer headaches
I get one everyday
I wake up with a migraine
Since you ran away
Got a load of tension
Burnin' up my neck
Something is wrong with my suspension
So pass those tablets to this wreck
Aspirin damage, Aspirin damage
Kills the pain, destroys the brain
No one told me 'bout Aspirin damage
Sometimes I find myself shakin'
From the medication taken
Oh yeah.
I balance my Excedrin
And Anacins in stacks
I'm a pain reliever junkie
I got a Bayer on my back.
I went to see the doctor
He walked me down the hall
Said "Strip down 'til you're naked
Your suit, your tie and all."
Aspirin damage, Aspirin damage
Kills the pain, destroys the brain
Aspirin damage, my disadvantage
Sometimes I find myself shakin'
From the medication taken
Oh yeah.
Aspirin damage, Aspirin damage
Kills the pain, destroys the brain
No one told me 'bout Aspirin damage
Sometimes I find myself shakin'
From the medication taken
Oh yeah

Lots Of Air In Here

got migraine
and tired of my doctor's prescriptions
which after all
lead to more complications
i decided to see my
quack doctor in the mountains
nearby
got inside his cave and
he chanted to the gods
of the trees
and the grasses
to the nymphs and elves
and dwarfs
to the gods of the underworld
and he came out with
an answer

'dear sir, you got lots of air
in your brain! '

o? i got brain.
My consolation.

Sonnet: Helmet-wearing Does Save Lives

A priceless brain resides within the skull,
From which the neural control reach each part!
–A living computer that takes each call,
And keeps all organs working fine, and heart.

A brain that’s smashed in accidents can’t work,
Nor can damaged a brain-box serve purpose;
Surrounding waters take brain off each jerk:
Protect each part in correct ways, God does.

When science has shown brain-injuries so rife,
Can be averted wearing helmets good,
Why not protect your God-given one life,
By putting proper cover like a hood?

Like how a shield protects one from a knife,
Yes, helmet-wearing saves your limbs and life!
‘Helmet-wearing does save lives! ’

Inspiration

My pen is poised, what shall I write,
The mind is 'dark', it needs some light,
Some 'inspiration' would be enough
To trigger the fingers and do a rough
Transcript of thoughts which might be pleasing,
But somehow at present, I'm into squeezing
My brain, to think up a suitable start,
Why aren't I a person who's 'grey matter' is smart,
When out of the blue a sentence appears,
The brain reacts and the numbness clears,
To reveal a startling piece of Lit,
That suddenly becomes a Hit,
That would be great, but the chances are,
A million to one! Oh! Lets retire to the bar!

Manna for Morons

Television is such a bore.
If anything that kills brain cells
The TV is the number one
Cause of permanent brain damage.
Between the ridiculously
Lengthy commercials, reruns and
The misnomer: “situation
Comedy” with its canned laughter,
A viewers IQ can dropp five
Points, perhaps more after sixty
Minutes of exposure, truly!
We have all become a nation
Of clones: It tells us what to buy,
What’s best to view and when to laugh.

He was searching for a guru he was lucky that he knew you
When I saw your fine physique I was into you like a train
And I love it when you speak youre so urbane
Oh, I love your brain
Yes, I love your brain
Ooh, I love your brain
Im gonna say it again
Love your brain
Its a beautiful brain
I wanna be with your brain
I wanna sleep with your brain
She was looking like a roman
She was cooking it with fire
She was talking right to me
And I couldnt unglue me
Though I am no duke of earl you are my chatelaine

Help The Nile-Crocodile Survive

Eating in a new restaurant where the chips were
sprinkled with spices; I should have sent it back,
but I didn’t; now another sleepless night with my
back and neck in a terrible knot, stomach burning
and my head stuffed with cotton; with cold spells
and fevers; it is the very last time I eat what I’m
offered with strange condiments; in future I’ll refuse,
not caring about offending; given the corporeal
punishment inflicted by food - I feel like dying

I am so tired; the Nile-Crocodile is reduced to
primitive reptilian survival; the Ice-Princess is
crying all life is vain; Cinderella is writhing in pain,
Alice has been changed into a prototype Quasimodo;
maybe the stuff that I eat shuts off part of my brain –
I can’t even do any addition; at school I was branded
a fool; at varsity I was the local dunce; every test
taken under allergic conditions and I never knew
I thought life was supposed to be this painful

Seth says all physical pain has psychosomatic origins
in the indictment of my childish self by Calvinism’s
original sin; the war at home that spoiled all ideas of
love; the total neglect of all emotional needs when we
were small – therefore my life is blighted; although I
know that ideas and experiences of doom and gloom
are the cause by creating a chemically unbalanced body;
no amount of reading and positive thinking has changed
the situation as yet –

Seth promised that accepting responsibility for all of
life’s problems would lessen the effect of any
psychosomatic condition; yet my attempts to accept
it has not changed anything – maybe this condition
is meant as a gift: It brought the Nile-Crocodile into
existence, a deep need to read and study to escape
the confines of discomfort – the claustrophobia forces
me to seek escape through my imagination; thank
heaven I discovered New Age literature to

Help the Nile-Crocodile survive the onslaught
on mind, brain and body!

Wish For Release

Scared to return to the office to sit
in a chair that does not meet the
need for a correct sitting position
as the desk is too high for the office
chair I bought myself and the bar
stool I have is causing neck-ache

I don't know who to ask and where
to go to get my work station fixed
and raise the computer screen so
my head is not forced to hang down
and increase the pain in my neck,
I receive medication to force
my brain to ignore the pain

Will this help me to sit in the wrong
position until I am dead in my chair?
I ardently wish for release in what-
ever way if I cannot be freed from
the chair and the pain...

The Medication Is Necessary

The happy pill.
Diagnosing something one can not see.
A wound that doesn't visibly bleed.
Does it make it any less real?
An how do you get it to heal?
Sometimes the only cure is daily medication.

The happy pill.
A silent suicide attempt.
Why is it so many go unheard.
Statistics, the deliverer so many verdicts.
Yet in poverty you are never reached.

The happy pill.
Just give me the happy pill.
Make me feel just a little better.
Tired everyday, not wanting to get up face anything.
The motivation declines.
And we stop for just one second too hit rewind.
Looking back, looking for a cause.

When their is really is none at all.
A chemical imbalance in the brain.
Not enough serotonin.
A smile, a laugh, ambition to do something, to do anything.
Why is it do so many of us judge this as fictitious disease.
Let me guess you one of those that don't believe in anxiety or add either.

Well they exist, in both mild and major cases.
I faced all three, I beat everyone but my anxiety.
No drugs needed so I thought.
But what if you can't get in a car without freaking out.
Heart beating out of your chest, what if I hit that guy.
What if I cause him to crash and he dies.

A true phobia, and sudden panic attacks.
And I'm doing this right, I must hurry up, oops too much, oops too soon.
How do you keep it under control without meds?
How do you keep focused, when your mind is racing.
Is it even possible?

Next thing I know I got to pull over this car cause I'm hyperventilating.
Getting into the fresh air and smoking two cigarettes just to calm my nerves.
I know what your thinking it is not really fresh air if your smoking a cigarettes.
Fresh air I consider in this terminology anything thats is outside the car.

So why do I need a drug for this.
Because your life is in danger without it.
Not just mine.
So next time you see that person taking their anxiety, depression, or add, medication just remember that before you pass your judgments.

Cocaine Blues

Everytime my baby and me go up town
police come and they knock me down
Cocaine all around my brain
Hey baby, better come here quick.
This old cocaine is making me sick.
Cocaine all around my brain.
Yonder comes by baby, she's dressed in red
She's got a shot-gun, says she's gonna kill me dead.
Cocaine all around my brain
Hey baby, better come here quick.
This old cocaine is making me sick.
Cocaine all around my brain.
Early one morning, half past four
cocaine came knockin' on my door.
Cocaine all around my brain
Hey baby, you better come here quick.
This old cocaine is making me sick.
Cocaine all around my brain.
Cocaine's for horses and it's not for men
Doctor said it kill you, but he don't say when.
Cocaine all around my brain.
Hey baby, you better come here quick.
This old cocaine is making me sick.
Cocaine all around my brain.

Im in bed
Achin head
Gold is lead
Choke on bread
Underfed
Gold is lead
Jesus bled
Pain is red
Are goon
Grow go

You swoon
June bloom
Music seems to help the pain
Seems to cultivate the brain.
