Death, be not unkind.
Do not hold her long in your embrace.
Do not cause more pain by her unwanted continuance of this life.
I know that transition is inevitable, though I grieve
To think of her departure.
Suffering in the vacuum of her absence,
I shall not mourn, lest my mourning hinder the flight
of her soul.
But, hold just a while that I may talk with her.
That I may say the things I should have said:
Of her courage; of the void she has filled in my life;
Of my love for her. Why do we wait to say
The things we should have said.
What? I have said those things before, you say?
Surely not. Surely, not enough times.
I fear she does not know.
You say I delay conclusion? Yes, if I could.
Reluctantly, I let go of her soul that it may fly
Like a fragment of dawn, reflecting upon the face
Of the Waters.
As an impassioned phrase from some familiar

Quiescence moves across her face. Deep sleep.

Every day we live, we always face death

What Awaits
What awaits us after certain death,
nor I nor you nor any here may know;
some may prefer to hold the unthinking state;
knowing only, what shall be, shall be;
and yet, it may not harm to have a dream,
a hope, a thought in purity;
why, it may even smoothe our latter days -
not by some mental last narcotic drip,
but curled around the treasure of our heart;
resting in our dearest, dearest love;
for some, it will be family:
perhaps to know our parents as new friends;
to talk to them of all unspoken things
we never thought to ask of them in life,
to throw aside the separateness of things;
to love our selves in them as they loved us;

they built so generously from their rich and loving lives;
to watch benignly as those institutions grow;
I have a passing fancy that, the relay race as run,
some glorious gift to pass, might be to hand:
and to some soul unborn, now waiting there
ready to run - reach out and smiling say,
here, take this I hold out in my hand –
to you, a seeming torch, or jewel beyond price,
a flower, or keepsake of a life of love –

The Next Poem
this is the next poem that i am telling you about.
it wants to tell you something, but not in secret really,
i am open, and i like open fields, like open ideas
wanting to embrace and be embraced by the world.
absence too, is open. The open arms wait for the coming
of absence. Absence is a wide space wanting to be filled by
love, and love is elusive, and love is unresponding to the
emergencies we are in.
but let me not talk about it. Let me tell you and take you back
to what i have started. I like the mirror in the living room broken
into a hundred pieces, all in the name of love.
i like to have as many mirrors as i can have. Tiny broken pieces.
I will take one. And all i want in this short life that we have,
the life of a fruitfly inside that experimental cupboard,
or that transparent cellophane, let death come.
i have this piece of broken glass. I want to reflect my light.
Do you like it? I want to reflect the light of God, do you like it?
Take it for what it is. Each piece has a reflective index of its own.

Is this the type of person you wish your son to be
A person who is responsible for creating many a refugee
Another tainted leader who abuses his power
So many have to suffer for his most glorious hour.
Is this the type of person that you really admire
the fear of other races in his fellow citizens he inspire
'Twould seem that for your offspring your dreams are not big at all
The future generations of historians fear and war mongers won't recall.
