Very Convincingly That Is Expressed
Overall,
People say...
They rather choose to do the right thing.
And very convincingly that is expressed.
However...
As long as doing the right thing,
Places them in direct competition with their neighbor.
And if the neighbor agrees to express equal aggressiveness.
With a declared nationalistic and patriotic pride.
Living in the Bible Belt supporting values of conflicts and wars.
And Republican.
With conservative outdated ideology...
That represents a small segment of society.
Responsible for today's marketed decadence.
Overall,
People say...
They rather choose to do the right thing.
And very convincingly that is expressed.
In fact...
These moments are better captured on canvas!
And idolized for those seeking images.

I Admit To Being Repetitive
Yes,
I admit to being repetitive...
As if to hammer in without end,
Things I choose and elect to say.
Using this format in a creative way.
But,
Is there so much love left...
The overflowing of it,
Needs not again to be expressed?
Is there an abundance of respect,
Gone unsuspected?
To leave the expectations of it,
To decay and sit in obvious neglect.
How about relationships?
Are all relationships unconditionally committed?
To satisfy the needs of people...
Found to be sighing in a constant bliss from this!
What about faith?
People confess they pray and this fulfills their needs.
Maybe that's why so many of us are not so hard to please.
Is hunger and homelessness a thing of the past?
Are conflicts and wars with us,
Here to forever last.
Yes,
I admit to being repetitive...
As if to hammer in without end,
Things I choose and elect to say.
Using this format in a creative way.
But,
When will that day come...
To free with relief from this necessity,
To comment as a writer on these things I see.
And they seem more each day to be fixed in cement!
With no updating or cures to replace,
The decadence or negativity...
With a positivity directly and sincerely meant.
Yes...
I admit to being repetitive.
And until there is a drastic change,
I guess that is the way it will be as it is!

Am I Less Patriotic
Am I less patriotic,
If I choose not to embrace...
Conservative values,
With a more broadened view...
That may be idealistic,
With equality issues I pursue.
Am I less patriotic,
If those who are hypocrites annoy?
The ones with their self righteous political opinions.
Those who influence lawmakers to consider and employ.
Am I less patriotic,
If I am bothered by illegitimate conflicts.
Those that depict one class of people,
As being worthy to indulge...
In the feeding done of their own interests.
Am I less patriotic,
If I wish hunger and homelessness...
From all made to suffer from this,
Was erased from them and did not exist?
Am I less patriotic,
If I chose to express my feelings about it?
And am I less patriotic...
If I refuse to inflict upon another pain,
With a taking away from them...
To benefit my own selfish claims to gain.
Am I less patriotic,
If my ambitions are to sustain and maintain...
A peaceful co-existence,
Between those who have chosen to benefit...
Appreciating their lives as they wish.
Without being oppressed by those who infest...
With a manifestation to control with a beholding?
Taking away from others as if...
They were entitled to do this!
Am I less patriotic?
Or am I just another delusioned human being?
Wishing all differences,
Were accepted or not demeaned to maim.
Or disrespected to be considered obscene.

Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You
I don't look good in no Armani Suits
No Gucci shoes - or designer boots
I've tried the latest lines from A to Z
But there's just one thing that looks good on me
The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you
I'm not satisfied with Versace style
Put those patent leather pants - in the circular file
Sometimes I think - I might be lookin' good
But there's only one thing that fits me like it should
The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you
Ya it's you - it could only be you
Nobody else will ever do
Ya baby it's you - that I stick to
Ya we stick like glue
The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you

Torture of Freedom
Freedom is just
A word a thing
People say
Freedom is a thing
Every man deserves
Lust, greed, envy
Is what this word brings
War a word unloved
Comes from this
Wars won, wars lost
Freedom has come at late
Freedom is just
A thing a word
That allows a man
To greed, lust, and envy
It allows one to desire
No law there is none
Twisted, tormented
It has become
Limits needed yet refused
Conflict inflicts a pain
A tourniquet limited
Freedoms
Not deserved a beautiful
Thing
No love of freedom
No love of self
No love of neighbor.

A thought for 9/11 (poem)
What was accomplished with the destruction on that fatal day?
Another false ideology by those who claim to God they pray
No different than hypocrites in this country who respond with hate
To add to the killing, the only thing gained is the mortality rate
Why don’t people have the courage, to speak what they feel?
To follow ones heart - is the only way a nation can heal
I believe the Lord said - love thy neighbor, not - do as thy neighbor
To receive respect we must earn it with the ways of our behavior
What is real and what is unreal - two different words but the same Meaning
For what we are, is not our true being, but a result of what society is Demanding
Courage is not to show the world the creature you truly are not
It is to be the true American that lives within you - which so many have Forgot
(I relied on the motto of a childhood hero of mine before writing this poem)
Davy Crockett said, “When you know your right, go ahead”

You and Your Neighbor
You are correct!
I will not get upset,
Over those things your neighbor
Has done to you.
Nor do I care about those things shared,
The two of you choose to do!
You and your neighbor,
Have been doing what you do for years.
That what has been done now escalates?
Is none of my business.
I've never been invited on your discreet escapades.
And today I could care less,
About this mess going on between you two.
You are correct!
I will not get upset,
Over those things your neighbor
Has done to you.
Nor do I care about those things shared,
The two of you choose to do!
Remember then when I made my comments?
And you said to me,
My comments made were making you about to vomit?
You should have purged then!
Not today!
When you're knee deep in the mess you are in!
You are correct!
I will not get upset,
Over those things your neighbor
Has done to you.
If anything,
I congratulate you both!
You have graduated from avoidable ignorance...
To flat out public scrutiny that is assessed as stupidity.
No!
I do not want a cup of coffee.
I prefer these days to walk in peace,
And alone!

Someone Not Worthy to Deceive
If I came to the aid of my neighbor struggling...
Would I be then declared a socialist?
If I offered shelter to those homeless and hungry,
Would I be a liberal?
With an agenda that was 'leftist'?
In these United States,
When I was taught to pledge alligence...
To a white and red star encrusted flag.
I believed myself and others together...
To be patriotic and of this we were glad.
But as I look upon this land,
With a separateness done.
And racism to overcome!
I'm stunned by the selfishness,
Of those whose interests...
Are only to feed their greed.
And leave others on the street,
With nothing to eat!
If I came to the aid of my neighbor struggling...
Would I be then declared a socialist?
If I offered shelter to those homeless and hungry,
Would I be a liberal?
With an agenda that was 'leftist'?
And would I care if the 'haves'
Stop to stare at me as if I were trash?
And when they prepare to go to sleep at night...
Are they aware I rest peacefully,
With my eyes closed tight?
I doubt it.
They perceive of me,
As someone not worthy to deceive.
And certainly I'm not a 'conservative'...
Motivated by division and isolated by greed.
'Remember when political choices,
Were either Republican or Democrat?
Now there are subdivisions with divisions within them.'

People Choose To Die
People choose to die
He smokes even though he knows each smoke he takes kills him
People choose to die
She stays with him even though he beats her every night
People choose to die
He continues to be a prostitute even though he's been living with HIV for the last 3 years.
People choose to die
She drinks and drives even though she's been in 15 drunk driving accidents. Even hit a little girl.
People choose to die.
Thats what we fail to realize.

Promoting Decadence As One's Defense
Is there such a thing as,
Justifiable ignorance?
Is there such a thing as,
Promoting decadence...
As one's defense.
Today those who have poise and grace,
Are as out of place...
As an alien from space.
Those who speak with confidence and truth,
Are quickly rumored to be...
Fools let loose.
Is there such a thing as,
Justifiable ignorance?
Is there such a thing as,
Promoting decadence...
As one's defense.
Listen to those on talk radio,
Saying things over the airwaves...
The FCC approves as okay.
But an exposed breast,
Unexpectedly addressed...
Upsets those to become enraged,
Although much worse than that...
Is displayed on TV 24 hours 'everyday'.
Is there such a thing as,
Justifiable ignorance?
Is there such a thing as,
Promoting decadence...
As one's defense.
Is there such a thing as,
As those who are crazed...
Being praised today?
And those desiring,
Better lives for themselves...
Being criminalized,
As if 'they' were the ones...
Who have come to terrorize our lives.

It's a poem thing
A poem is a thing to express your feelings,
A poem is a thing to express your rageing...
A poem is a thing to express your sadness,
A poem is a thing to express your madness...
A poem is a thing to express your heart,
A poem is a thing to express your art...
A poem is a thing to express your real self,
A poem is a thing to express your necessities that are more than art...
A poem is a thing to know,
A poem it a thing we all should and could know...
This is what a poem thing should show...

So Suitable Has The Outrageous Become
Is it befitting that the ridiculous,
Now
Is a way of life?
So suitable has the outrageous become,
That those seeking to shoot from the hip
With a telling it like it is,
With a voicing of it.
Are the ones today,
Finding themselves censored.
To allow the rise for the marketing of misfits.
And it was not long ago,
Those who were declared militants
With nationalistic wishes,
Were more patriotic
Than those elected to represent their contituents.
While those who promote decadence,
Have the bucks to demand
How much of the sleaze on the streets show.
Is it befitting that the ridiculous,
Now
Is a way of life?
So suitable has the outrageous become,
That those seeking to shoot from the hip
With a telling it like it is,
With a voicing of it.

Same Thing Over
You say you're going to turn a leaf.
But it's the same thing over.
You say you're going to release your grief.
But it's the same thing over.
You say no more to jumping through hoops.
You say you're going to do what you choose.
You say you're going to be free and loose...
But it's the same thing over.
You say you're picking up more speed.
But it's the same thing.
You say new rhythms you now beat.
But it's the same thing.
You say more of life you will see...
But it's the same thing over.
You say more of life you will see.
But it's the same thing!
It's the same thing.
Same thing you will bring into your life,
Until it's over.

For To Celebrate War
For to celebrate war there's always one more parade
And out of war warriors heroes are made
Only the good die young some are known to say
But I know good people who are old and gray.
The praises of war leaders many may sing
But those who declare war on others do it as a power thing
Though many with my thinking may not agree
Those who declare war on terror are major terrorists to me.
Millions of human beings through the centuries in wars have suffered and died
And wars through the ages have been fought Worldwide
And still we have wars and talks of more wars today
Of our human capacity to learn from past mistakes of us what does this say?
It can lead to acts of aggression patriotic pride
And religion, nationalism, patriotism and racism are the things that divide
People of all Nations who live everywhere
And over them more wars are fought in the big World out there.

A Victim Of Learning Too Many Lessons
Why is it that it seems,
You express little empathy...
Towards those who are currently,
Suffering from hunger, homelessness.
And a loss of their dignities.
'I began to express that years ago,
When the sight of it would hurt me so.
And I witnessed those with turned up noses.
Pretending what was exposed,
Had been a dilemma others chose.'
But the circumstances today are quite different.
'How and why? '
Those who suffer,
Have lost their homes and valuables.
And images that impressed,
Others in a lesser position...
They never took time to address.
With their empathies expressed.
'And...
Your point is what?
Their suffering done is more effective?
And my empathy given to them,
Should be more reflective? '
But the circumstances today are quite different.
'How and why? '
These people have never experienced,
A life lived like this before.
'Neither had my ancestors.
But guess what? '
What?
'When my ancestors suffered,
They never discriminated by looking away.
And today you can say...
I am a victim of learning too many lessons.
And when I am shown a negligence,
By them expressed...
What am I to do?
Show them I have not been taught by the best? '
But the circumstances today are quite different.
'How and why?
Are these new lessons I have not recognized?
Have those old lessons been changed,
And are now disguised? '

Commits To The Giving Of It
How can one not love another,
Who commits to the giving of it...
Unconditionally?
And the last thing anyone should do,
Is to get upset...
By a point of view expressed.
Especially if that point of view,
Is shared between someone loved.
And doing it to communicate too.
Too many people share relationships,
To become angry over nothing quick.
Just to begin an unending argument.
Too many people become easily offended,
When something different that is mentioned...
Causes one not to listen and refuses to pay attention.
And the last thing anyone should do,
Is to get upset...
By a point of view expressed.
How can one not love another,
Who commits to the giving of it...
Unconditionally as true love is meant to be.

I Believe So...
does the wind choose to blow?
do rivers choose to run?
does your heart choose to beat?
i believe so...
does the earth choose to turn,
in perfect rhythm, year by year?
do the tides choose to come and go,
in cadence with the moon?
i believe so...
does society choose to be oppressed,
if only by apathy's inaction?
do we choose to let people starve
when we turn the other head?
i believe so...
do we choose war over peace,
to feed the need of greed?
do we choose to destroy nature
by our very lifestyles?
i believe so....
but can we change destiny,
and avert the final blow?
can we open our minds and hearts,
and reclaim life for the living?
i believe so...

From a Time Gone By
Is this surge worse than Viet Nam?
At least back in 1968,
There wasn't so many conflicts going on!
And being a patriotic black young man...
I had returned from the military,
Feeling strong and giving a damn!
I was in the military,
Two weeks after graduating from high school.
Seeking to protect a nation,
Not then realizing...
When I was discharged,
I would be considered a fool!
And I was shown this,
More times than a few!
Especially by those...
Who went on to graduate,
With BA's and MA's and PHd's...
From top notch schools!
And here we are today...
Approaching two thousand and eight!
With our sons and daughters in wars,
They participate.
And I think back then,
How patriotic I had been.
To think I was prepared to give up my life...
So others can have rights,
To denounce me and the color of my skin!
But let me say this...
Not one hint of bitterness,
Within me exist!
Not because of actions,
I consciously did take!
Although it irks me to no end...
To see so many folks make the same mistakes.
As I grow older with the grace I am blessed!
I am so happy
My tattered emotions have been mended.
My inner conflicts have been cured of buried stress.
But I must confess...
The world we live now is in a mess!
Not because of real threats made.
But because of an ignorance accepted and expressed!
People have lost an inner worth it seems.
Gone are visions of fellowship,
To the marketing of schemes and corruption themes!
And the youth of today,
Have one thing on their minds!
How best they can 'get over'...
To obtain 'things'
By committing an assortment of crimes,
They are assisted to define!
As the sacred dollar...
Falls to worthlessness.
I feel my basic needs are those of a relic!
From a time gone by when people just wanted
To 'be' and do their best!
One who seeks peace of mind with quality...
While others seek to feed an endless greed,
From an emptiness that is felt!
Whether or not,
There is conflict and unrest!
And I observe this 'mess'...
Wondering why this humanistic 'slide'
Tumbles into oblivion!
Without more cries of those rejecting this in protest!
And each day that I awaken...
I thank God,
He has put my faith and bravery I have shown...
Through such obstacles and tests of mental strength,
He has produced!
And He and I alone have known!
While others may portray a sympathy...
Just to maintain a materialistic gain.
Without one hint of dignity that remains!
Or none remembered to be sustained!

Seeking Class Not Pizzazz
The only thing people can declare
Rightfully theirs
Without a doubt
Is their debt
And nothing else they possess
Can be claimed to have achieved
Such greatness as they have been taught
To perceive
Such endeavors as these
Without a hint of guilt expressed
And that is a remarkable sign of...
Of...
Of...
'Longevity? '
No!
'Self centered idealism? '
No!
Although I 'feel' your sentiments!
But no!
'Gluttony, Greed, deceit, dishonesty? '
No.
That has already been determinded,
By those staring at the mummified remains
Of Egyptians during the last museum tours.
'I think I've got it!
Listen to this...
'Without a hint of guilt expressed
And that is a remarkable sign of...'
A lack of lust for life! '
I can see why you are not a writer.
That sits no where near being profound!
Oh,
Here we go...
'Without a hint of guilt expressed
And that is a remarkable sign of...
Sadness! '
'Of what?
SADNESS?
That has no pizzazz! '
I'm seeking class not pizzazz.
And there 'is' a difference!

People Like You Just Don't Get It
People like you,
Just don't get it.
'Get what? '
Don't worry about it
If you had it you would know.
And...
Maybe you are right.
You once said,
The homeless and hungry...
Was a situation for those,
Who chose to be so.
You once said,
'There are jobs out there.
Those folks just don't want to work.
When 'I' was in that situation...
I walked down the road,
To ask my neighbor if I could pitch some hay...
To buy groceries and pay my 'mortgage'.
And my father and his father did the same thing.
Today...
People think they deserve more than that.'
People like you,
Just don't get it.
'Get what? '
Don't worry about it.
If you had it you would know.
And...
Maybe you are right.
Some people just bit off more than they could chew.
And if they had good credit like you...
None of them would be in the same predicament.
People like you,
Just don't get it.
'Get what? '
Don't worry about it.
What you don't know is intended.
