Singing In Duet
Available but feeling like a soloist,
To go it alone.
With a duet gone.
Wanting to believe there is a harmony,
And hearing a hum.
From a duet done.
I wont give up wishing to be holding hands,
With that special one...
Who comes,
To hum and sings...
With me,
'We are together and forever.'
Singing in duet.
And happily as can be.
Available but feeling like a soloist,
To go it alone.
With a duet gone.
Wanting to believe there is a harmony,
And hearing a hum.
From a duet done.
I wont give up wishing to be holding hands,
With that special one...
Who comes,
To hum and sings...
With me,
'We are together and forever.'
Singing in duet,
And happily as can be.
'Together and forever,
Together.'
Singing in duet,
And happily as can be.
'Together and forever,
Together.'
Singing in duet.
And happily as can be.

The Last Duet
(With Lily Tomlin)
Lily:
You creep
Into my heart
And make my heart burn
Barry:
You sneak
Into my mind
And make my head ache
Both:
There are things I long to tell you
Lily:
You're much too blonde
Barry:
You snore
Both:
Look
It's time to face the music
Barry:
Bye bye
Lily:
Don't slam the door
And I don't want
Barry:
I don't want
Lily:
I don't want
Barry:
I don't want
Both:
No, I don't want your flowers anymore
This is the last duet
Last chance you're gonna get
No more ha harmony
For you and me
This is the final song
And when the music's through
This is the last duet
I'll ever do with you
Barry:
You're not the one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh
Tood-le-oo (Honey)
Lily:
Don't go breakin' my back
Don't call me
I'll call you
Both:
Back together
Reunited
Should feel so good
They say
So I hope there's no hard feelings
Barry:
Don't go 'way mad
Lily:
Just go 'way
Both:
'Cause
Enough
Is enough
Is enough
Is enough
Too much too little too late
Lily:
Tonight
Barry:
Tonight
Both:
With you I'm bored again
This is the last duet
Last chance you're gonna get
No more ha harmony
For you and me
This is the final song
And when the music's through
This is the last duet
I'll ever do with you
Both:
This is the last duet
Last chance you're gonna get
No more ha harmony
For you and me
This is the final song
And when the music's through
This is the last duet
I'll ever do
I'll ever do
I'll never never never never never do
With you

With the Clearing of Ears of All Wax
Come and sing with me in harmony.
And let us keep in tune.
With a singing in duet...
Until this fills up every room.
And a singing we do that crescendos too.
As our booming voices begins to pierce and crack,
With the clearing of ears of all wax.
That has prevented a listening we wish to attract.

The Wish For A Duet With You
mine is hoarse yours is flat
but we as friends
wish to sing a duet for them
and they will laugh
the moment we start to sing
don't be mad
we will still try and we give
them the fun
that they are after
but keep the faith
whatever happens
since my voice is hoarse and
yours is flat
we still keep this friendship
it is not the duet
that counts it is this
day to day companionship
your arms on my shoulder
as we walk this
life together.

A Thousand Steps To Nowhere
Iris
A thousand steps
Paperman
Obviously
Iris
The jewish cemetery
Paperman
It may come in handy
Iris
Let me get him. your heart
Paperman
Stay here
A thousand steps to nowhere
That is all I see
This night is asking questions
Where and what for me
A thousand miles from henny
Who warned me from the start
I feel foolhardy, I miss sardis
Thought I was so smart
Chorus
Down is up, up is down
Thats just life in kinja town
The natives and the castaways
Thats just life for me these days
Henny
Ive had it with this weather
My skin is pale as bleach
Im heading back to kinja
And stretch out on the beach
My past is in these boxes
All clean and neatly packed
No time for sorrow, I leave tomorrow
Theres no turning back
No turning back, Im island bound
I want to turn from white to brown
Sing and dance to calypso songs
Trade in this mink for a pink sarong
Iris
I really do admire him
And what hes taking on
This island and these crazies
But I fear hell soon be gone
Cant let myself fall for him
A terrible mistake
Hes got henny, Im one too many
This time my heart could break
Chorus
A thousand steps to nowhere
That is all I see
Paperman
My heart is pounding madly
Iris
Mine too, wont let me be
A thousand reasons not to
Paperman
Strange but oh so true
Im behaving
Iris
Youre not past saving
A thing we both should do
Henny
Cause hes happy
Duet
Down is up, up is down
Henny
I understand
Duet
Thats just life in kinja town
Henny
Cause hes my man
Duet
The natives and the castaways
Thats just life for us these days

Cause hes happy

Duet In Harmony
Wanting it more to stay.
This feeling I have and prayed for.
If it should leave,
My needs would feed
Off misery
And pain I made.
Escapade days.
This is one I would save.
Caught in between...
A love I daydream,
And past thoughts I can not free
From me.
Who is that one in a crowd?
That one that looks at me now!
With a smile that seems just for me,
And a nod or two.
Who is that one in a crowd?
That one that looks at me now!
With a smile that seems just for me,
And a nod or two.
Not knowing one nod would do!
Sitting with thoughts.
My heart with memories brought.
To give me reason to sigh...
And wonder why,
I deny I'm all alone!
If only...
You were with me,
To see the way I can be.
Wishing...
More for romance.
And just once more chance...
To duet in harmony,
When greeted!

The Couple Sings
evidently, they are a nice pair
both of them
are songbirds in their own
right
they had a duet in the party
and we clapped our hands
they are old now and yet
still very much in love with
each other
as they were singing a love song
when we clapped
he made chances on her butt
while she touched his face
what a melodrama
and then at the end of the love song
they kissed each other
there is joy
we cheered them
Love so true which age
cannot murder. This is when
the couple sings
their own love song.

Star Of The Show
We sang a love song the day that we met
You thought that we made the perfect duet
You liked my performance so you wanted to know
If I would stay on as the star of the show
And beautiful music we made for a time til she changed our tune
And you added new lines
Our duet arrangement became a trio
Now you want a star, but I just think you should know
Chorus:
I dont play second fiddle in nobodys band
And Im no back-up singer and I wont be a fan
And Im nobodys co-star
I just play leading rolls
And I dont want the part, dont want a part
Wont play a part unless its star of the show
Oh, shes stealing the show thats been so dear to my heart
Shes changing our song til Im not sure of my part
She sharing the spotlight and theres not room for both
Now one or the other is the star of the show, the other goes
Life is a show and the show will go on
The world is stage, loves an act we perform
Theres always some new act somewhere up the road
And Ill always be staring in somebodies show
Repeat chorus twice
If I dont star in your show
Well Im still a star and I can still go
You know I got to be, I got to be the star of the show

The Duet
I was smoking a cigarette;
Maud, my wife, and the tenor McKey
Were singing together a blithe duet,
And days it were better I should forget
Came suddenly back to me,
Days when life seemed a gay masque ball
And to love and be loved as the sum of it all.
As they sang together the whole scene fled,
The room’s rich hangings, the sweet home air,
Stately Maud, with her proud blonde head,
And I seemed to see in her place instead
A wealth of blue-black hair,
And a face, ah! your face, - yours, Lisette,
A face it were wiser I should forget.
We were back – well, no matter when or where,
But you remember, I know, Lisette,
I saw you, dainty, and debonnaire,
With the very same look you used to wear
In the days I should forget.
And your lips, as red as the vintage we quaffed,
Were pearl-edged bumpers of wine when you laughed.
Two small slippers with big rosettes
Peeped out under your kilt-skirt there,
While we sat smoking our cigarettes
(Oh, I shall be dust when my heart forgets!)
And singing that selfsame air;
And between the verses for interlude,
I kissed your throat, and your shoulders nude.
You were so full of a subtle fire,
You were so warm and so sweet, Lisette;
You were everything men admire,
And there were no fetters to make us tire;
For you were – a pretty grisette.
But you loved, as only such natures can,
With a love that makes heaven of hell for a man.
* * * *
They have ceased singing that old duet,
Stately Maud and the tenor McKey.
‘You are burning your coat with your cigarette,
And qu’avez-vous, dearest, your lids are wet, ’
Maud says, as she leans o’er me.
And I smile, and lie to her, husband-wise,
‘Oh, it is nothing but smoke in my eyes.’

Soul Music
Like an instrumental that goes on forever
You play my body when we're together
Making sure to fine tune all the keys
The rhythm of you beating deeply into me
Passion unfolding in the perfect tone
Increasing the speed of your tempo
Bodies rocking in harmony
Getting caught up in the rhapsody
With every motion you compose a new score
No need for an interlude the duet's what I'm here for
Unending passion building with each verse
Don't need a refrain
Don't need to rehearse
Whether in unison or as a solo
I love the music you sing to my soul

A harlot’s status
A woman, as she’s paired with a man
In a duet, a dance or a love scene,
Can perform without sexual emotion.
So is a harlot; give her same status.

I Do Not Understand
I am not vain!
I am appalled you would think that.
Just because I have a mural of my self reflection,
Oiled painted on canvas in each of the 7 rooms
In my home.
I want you to feel my closeness.
And my doorbell has my voice welcoming you...
'Enter only if you look better than me! '
Is to warm you before you bask in my glow.
And duplicating the warmth of my smile.
When you sit on my toilet seats...
Isn't it comforting to know,
My humming eases you with my presence?
And every flush...
Shivers you to goosebumps.
I had them customed made.
In my favorite key...B-flat.
I am there for you.
Who do you know,
Provides that kind of hospitality?
Even when you pee...
I am there harmonizing with a melody.
And singing with myself in duet,
Is not an easy accomplishment.
I am here...
All over my domain,
Just for you.
And yes...
Those are my hands,
I had enlarged and woven into the carpet.
To hold you and caress.
Every second you are here.
Even under your footsteps,
I am here to hold you.
I do not understand...
Why you have chosen to leave so soon!
It seems as though you had just arrived.
Here...
Take this 8 by 10 glossy!
I have signed it for you as a reminder...
I am not too far away!
Always I will be there...
Gazing into your eyes.
And wanting you to know...
I am at your fingertips.
WHO can give you love like this?

Beautiful Yesterday.
Beautiful yesterday
Always comes
With that fairy
Of the sugar plums.
When we are alone
Wishing for things
That are gone.
Diamond rings
Those imposters
Where sunlight once shone,
Twinkle so cheap.
Yet
It is not then
It is now we must keep.
Forever begins at dawn.
Yesterday and tomorrow
Those unreachable twins
Still wait to be born.
Yesterday the fruit
Clung to the vine.
Tomorrow I will quaff
The Holiest wine.
But today is forever!
Just a short minuet.
Tomorrow and yesterday
Those spectres duet.
You and I
From the past carry scars.
Our future lies somewhere
Near Venus or Mars.
Yet
Today we should dance
To those Spanish guitars!
And kiss.
Give a miss.
To tomorrow and yesterday.
Just shadows on the wall.
Two fancy crooks
Best left between pages
Of dusty old books
In the hall.

Not In The Mood For A Duet...
now what is happening?
we are not in the mood for a duet
we go solo, i sing the songs of the farmers
you sing the song of lovers petting by the
side of the hill
we are happy
parting away
we are two singing birds
drifting apart
soon, without the waste of words
we understand what sweet farewells are
all bitterness forgotten
sins forgiven
and when we meet again
we shall admit, perhaps we should have never shown
what we want them to believe
we should not have told them
what love tales are
