The Right Mask

One night a poem came up to a poet
From now on, it said, you must wear a mask.
What kind of mask? asked the poet.
A rose mask, said the poem.
I've used it already, said the poet,
I've exhausted it.
Then wear the mask that's made out of
a nightingale's song, use that mask.
Oh, it's an old mask, said the poet,
it's all used up.
Nonsense, said the poem, it's the perfect mask,
still, try on the god mask,
now that mask illuminates heaven.
It's a tight mask, said the poet,
and the stars crawl about in it like ants.
Then try on the troubador's mask, or the singer's mask,
try on all the popular masks.
I have, said the poet, but they fit so easily.

The poem was getting impatient,
it stamped its feet like a child,
it screamed. Then try on your own face,
try the one mask that terrifies,
the mask only you could possibly use,
the mask only you could wear out.

The poet tore at his face til it bled,
this mask? he yelled, this mask?
Yes, said the poem, yes.

But the poet was tired of masks,
he had lived too long with them,
he snatched at the poem and stuck it in his face.
Its screams were muffled, it wept, it tried to be lyrical,
it wriggled into his eyes and mouth.

Next day his friends were afraid of him,
he looked so distorted.
Now it's the right mask, said the poem, the right mask.
It clung to him lovingly and never let go again.

Remember When He Juiced Us Up...

The journey would never have been this treacherous,
If we had taken the direct route...
And quickly landed on Reality!
At least we had the light of the Sun with us.
Now we are in complete darkness!
And the commander is still convinced,
We are headed in the right direction!
Have you noticed...
He has not been in the cockpit one time?

Remember when he 'juiced' us up in the beginning?
By tossing to us cash and a drugged vision?
And he is doing the same thing now!
Can you sense disaster?
And his incompetence exposing faster?

'I'm wondering who and what IS in that cockpit!
And why this trip had to go through turbulence,
In the first place?
It just seems to be a wasted adventure,
To please an ego!
And the sight of it now...
Although much too late,
Has made ALL the passengers sick! '

Well stay buckled.
Whatever we land on...
Will be extremely long and bumpy!
Much longer than that joker,
Has parachuted away from us and it.
That's guaranteed.

Ideals Rusting From Distrustful Deeds

We're on the edge of a bottomless pit.
Those conflicted in transit opposition to this...
Can not be consciously aware,
Of the seriousness there!

The one selected and picked to lead,
Now seems overwhelmed by those wishing...
Actions he has taken does not succeed.

With arguments and ignorance intact...
Those accustomed to feeding their greed,
Insist they've come with prerequisites...
To have their selfish ideals succeed.
Even though economically,
Their pockets are being systematically emptied!

And many stand firm,
To have their interests proceed.
With ideals rusting from distrustful deeds.

But the one elected to prevent their demise...
Has warned them all witnessing,
They must now open their eyes.
And if they choose not to see reality...
He will use his influence,

Desperate Angel...

In a starry night sky I take flight,
My powerful wings carry my ever higher,
Seeking the entrance to heavens gates,
Desperately I search for Nirvana's entrance,
Becoming more desperate with each passing breath,
Speeding recklessly across the night sky,
The cold wind biting against my naked flesh,
Yet my frantic search brings naught but frustration,

Drugging Life

because life moves like a drag
pendulum of grief and lament

nights are stillnoxed
days are pills of micardes
and oftener advil
lessens the volume of the
screams of pain

on oily oddities
the liver gets too fat
the ultrasound complains of
blindness to see
the maps of
maladies

aspirin keeps a painless
moment
blood thins to remove the
obstructions of the heart

the oxygen tank waits
the ambulance is ready to sound
its alarms
for an incoming police
of death to
execute the cardiac
arrest

and so the abusive creature

the morgue keeps its cool
another number is
