What I think we fear is rapid, pronounced, and uncontrollable changes to ourselves, and because of this we have a form of personality inertia - something that resists rapid change.

Rapid thoughts

Rapid thoughts come and go
and I don't even know
where they're from
or how they did come?

But I don't rack my brain anymore.
For they will come again.
And I will capture some of them
and hold on to them if I can.

Just like hailing a taxi cab
that goes right on by,
rapid thoughts are hard to catch
but sooner or later if you try
they'll stop.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is commonly observed that a sudden wealth, like a prize drawn in a lottery or a large bequest to a poor family, does not permanently enrich. They have served no apprenticeship to wealth, and with the rapid wealth come rapid claims which they do not know how to deny, and the treasure is quickly dissipated.

In Essence

Rapid essence is secret weapon for the rich and famous,
Yet their doing is definite in the eyes of most,
In the rising of guilt and gunnery.

For when bullets are fired in one rapid answer
To the fallen man who resents the very essence,
Then the falling is reason for discontent.

I said the seeing is again done with the futilty,
And the man or woman shall evade all utility,
Will they not destroy their benefits, in essence?

Rapid City, South Dakota

(kinky friedman)
Just a ragged kid in overalls, he thumbed a ride one day
He told me, anywhere youre goings on my way.
But as we passed by big als drive-in his eyes began to flash
He was leavin rapid city mighty fast.
He said, i hope to God she finds the good-bye letter that I wrote her
But the mail dont move so fast in rapid city, south dakota.
Well, he left her just a blanket of snow upon the farm
And that dont keep your conscience very warm.
He said his friends were too durn country and his pa was too damn mean
And there werent no money pumpin gasoline.
And her gentle eyes, the merchandise of dreams the peddler sold her
Who left her there alone in rapid city, south dakota.
Now the reason he was goin, I aint sure I could say,
Mightve been the rodeo in santa f.
theres a doctor in chicago, I know shell be all right
He told himself as he stared into the night.
And he said, i hope to God she finds the good-bye letter that I wrote her
But the mail dont move so fast in rapid city, south dakota.
And all her people treatin her just like they never knowed her
Lord, the winters passin slow in rapid city, south dakota.

Rapid Roy

Oh rapid roy that stock car boy
He too much too believe
You know he always got an extra pack of cigarettes
Rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve
He got a tattoo on his arm that say "baby"
He got another one that just say "hey"
But every sunday afternoon he is a dirt track demon
In a '57 chevrolet
Oh rapid roy that stock car boy
He's the best driver in the land
He say that he learned to race a stock car
By runnin' shine outta alabam'
Oh the demolition derby
And the figure eight
Is easy money in the bank
Compared to runnin' from the man
In oklahoma city
With a 500 gallon tank
Oh rapid roy that stock car boy
He too much too believe
You know he always got an extra pack of cigarettes
Rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve
He got a tattoo on his arm that say "baby"
He got another one that just say "hey"
And sunday afternoon he is a dirt track demon
In a '57 chevrolet
Yeah roy so cool
That racin' fool he don't know what fear's about
He do a hundred thirty mile an hour
Smilin' at the camera
With a toothpick in his mouth
He got a girl back home
Name of dixie dawn
But he got honeys all along the way
And you oughta hear 'em screamin'
For that dirt track demon
In a '57 chevrolet
Oh rapid roy that stock car boy
He too much too believe
You know he always got an extra pack of cigarettes
Rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve
He got a tattoo on his arm that say "baby"
He got another one that just say "hey"
But every sunday afternoon he is a dirt track demon
In a '57 chevrolet

Because I Love Him So Very Much

Rapid movement, rapid ascent-
In proximity, toward our adorement
And its reality, from aspiration-
THIS is due Heavenly Father's Dedication
To His Most Beloved, His Most Highly-Prized
And Faithful, amongst all on Earth; He realized
That, long, long ago of course-now the world sees
The proverbial 'forest for the trees':
NOW, He needed to use His Very Own Hand,
To ensure all is, as He would Command!
Many-both far afield and nigh-
See this all unfold-I am left to ask: 'Why
Father-why me-I am nt deserving of such? '
His succinct reply: 'Because you love Me so very much! '

Stewing To Do A Brooding

I know I am aging at a rapid pace,
Because I can no longer tolerate...
Those who make excuses,
With a truth they can not face.

Today so many seem to wish an escape,
From their mistakes they can not admit.
And quick with unsilent lips they are,
To review a stewing to do a brooding over it.

And since my patience has gone,
To listen to the same song sung...
From Sunset to dawn prolonged too long,
I immediately exit from it as being relevant.

I know I am aging at a rapid pace,
Because I can no longer tolerate...
Those who make excuses,
With a truth they can not face.

And it gets annoying to hear,
A voice deceptively lamenting...
Over what was done when they were young,
With a venting of their issues unending.

You Have a Good Day Too

Don't you wish folks you confide in,
Were more reliable?
And you can depend on what is said...
Not to change,
From day to day.

And sometimes I am the one asked,
Why I am so moody?
I know I'm reflecting what is going on.
In these times of rapid change!
I can leave home with a smile on my face...
To come back and be unrecognized by my neighbors.

'Mind your business and shut up!
Of course it's me!
You don't have to threaten to call the police.
Would I have a 'key' if I was trying to break in?

No...
I've had no recent 'work' done on my face.
It has to be the lighting!

No no no!
No need to apologize.
I understand!

Yeah,
Whatever.
You have a good day too,
Mrs. Peeper! '

A Nightmare

The rapid barometric stuttering
of a sudden downpour
vacating the streets
hurling rainbows
overhead:
I fear not.

the amble of a six-gun toting
troublemaker, intoxicated as all get out,
Shouting, 'I smash you head in! '
Him I fear.
The strength of arms
Against such a predator
Shall turn his head inside out;
This I command:
(At least in my mind's eye) ,
And the brunt of my hand
Can shatter his nose
So it goes into his brain.
Then I will dispose of his guns.

I Apprehend You...

I apprehend You. The years pass by -
Yet in constant form, I apprehend You.

The whole horizon is aflame - impossibly sharp,
And mute, I wait, - with longing and with love.

The whole horizon is aflame, and your appearance near.
And yet I fear that You will change your form,

Give rise to impudent suspicion
By changing Your familiar contours in the end.

Oh, how I'll fall - so low and bitter,
Defeated by my fatal dreams!

How sharp is the horizon! Radiance is near.
And yet I fear that You will change your form.

Rapid Is The Information

Rapid is the information.
Too much perhaps,
But the facts are clear...
It is here.

Blurring the minds and fixed visions,
With such speed and precision.
And fearing are those who can not keep up.
With down on their luck blues to sing.
And nerves quickly plucked,
By their own closed and shut inhabitions!

Listening to tired conversations,
Wishing to manifest a redigesting...
Of yesterdays gone,
Is sad to witness and observe...
Such listlessness gone undisturbed,
By a jolt of motivation.
Or something that provokes slow pokes,
To ignite with urgency.

Was that served and deserved?
With an intent to have many feed their gut,
With gluttony.
And not their minds to fine tune,
With the times?

Rapid is the information.
Too much perhaps,
But the facts are clear...
It is here.
Leaving that and those 'tomorrows',
Far behind!
Faster than the batting of an eyelash!
And...
With the thoughts of them,
Easier to put off...'then'!
With the best of procrastination skills,
Many have adopted as professions.

But the facts are clear...
Whatever is here and experienced right now,
Is on the move.
It has 'already' gone!
And anyone desiring to torment themselves,
Because of it...
Will find they are not alone!

Others also made decisions to deny their dreams!
With hopes that tomorrow would do for them,
What today did not...
Do for them!

And just like all of those yesterdays they 'lived'...
Moaning and groaning,
To find excuses not to do it!
And to find that just as rewarding,
As the discovery of fresh complaints...
Is a waste of time to address.
These folks...
Are not the 'Oh! -I've-got-it-now' kind.

Rapid is the information.
Too much perhaps,
But the facts are clear...
It is here.
To distribute to those who receive it.
And not here to give attention,
To those who don't!
And THAT is 'thee' reality!
