It seems clear to me,

If you want to play something that you hear, you need to listen with your mind's eye. You've heard of the mind's eye, right? Your mind has an ear too. It's a kind of listening, but it's not using your ears to listen. It's listening with your inner ear, and that's what you want to translate onto the guitar.

Through The Headphones
Stretched out on the bed.
Snuggled up in flannel pj's.
Folded hands on chest.
Headphones placed on ears.
Portable CD player at my side.
Volume up - as much as I can handle.
I listen to my albums
through the headphones.
Hearing the music
in a whole new way.
Up close and personal.
Is this the same 20 year old song?
I never heard that lyric.
I never heard those notes.
I don't hear that on the record player.
I didn't know they did that
in the background.
Through the headphones
the voices come from straight ahead,
somewhere from the left or from the right.
I've never heard these songs this way.
I now have a whole new record collection.

The Cat's Cry
In the place I knew and visited
So often and even rested
I wondered why I heard a cat's cry
As if trying to say some 'Hi'
I looked left and right
But could not see a slight
No cat or whatever to see
Only imagined by me?
Yet I was sure as hell
And could swear or tell
That I had heard that sweet
Short like a bird's tweet
Ah! There it is once more
This time I am very sure
It's quite loud and plain
And coming again and again
There is a bit of fear
In that voice, very clear
Some distress or some pain
It is not crying out in vain
I search here and there
Up the steps and down somewhere
Behind the bin and the door
I even went down the store
It brought about an urgency
A resonance of some lunacy
Why should I think and find
A cat whom I should not mind
Yet I keep looking around
In the direction of sound
To see the origin of this tide
Which rises in heart's shoreside
Is there a familiar malencholy
Or just my mind's folly
Perhaps, I see myself
As the cat on the shelf
At least I heard its cry soon
But I sit to wonder soon

Last year I heard the songs of birds,
And heard the trumpets of the bees.
I caught the winding river’s words,
And clutched at leaves of trees.
I heard the gales upon the height;
And heard each frightened windy rush,
I lay within the sultry night,
Eaves-dropping in the bush.
But now I walk within a town,
And hear the slyness of its feet.
Great cruel things stride up and down
Within a shady street.
I see quick things with ugly nails,

In The Picture, Near It Or Close To The Frame
No matter what is said,
To another with words believed understood...
There will be a misinterpretation,
That is explained to someone else...
For that person to comprehend,
Within the limits of what they have experienced.
And everyone knows those experiences are different.
And if an experience is limited with no sense to make,
Eventually there will be yet another someone...
Who becomes offended,
By what was intentionally not meant to escalate...
For anyone else to hear in the first place.
But in small towns,
Nothing is left as it had initially originated.
'I just want you to know,

But I'll go ahead and forgive you anyway.'
