I Admit I Have Forgotten

When I was a much younger person,
It was difficult for me to listen...
With a paying of attention.
I was young, dumb and full of...
Ignorance I shared.
With those who became upset,
With decisions I made too late to correct.

Today,
I listen to everyone.
Whether what is said is solicited or not.
I even sit through people repeating themselves,
With hopes my raised eyebrow would send a clue...
I got the message two days ago.
And they 'still' continue.
Believing I am listening intently.

I've learned that one never knows,
What is being said today...
Will not apply one day.
Whenever that day arrives.

'Remember you told me to shut my mouth,
To listen years ago.
And I became offended,
Calling you some horrible and atrocious names? '

No.
I don't remember that.
What names did you call me?
How horrible and atrocious were they?

'Well...
I just wanted to say I am grateful to you.
And I feel even more blessed,
You have forgiven me.'

Wait a minute. Hold on.
What were those names you called me?
Help me remember.
Maybe I haven't forgiven you at all.
Although I admit I have forgotten.

A Welcoming Of Their Own Grief

I remember a time,
When being honest with integrity...
Actually made a difference.
People had respect for those,
Who used their minds and were direct.

I also remember,
When people were not so quick...
To protect obvious mistakes made.
Or wasted the time to debate,
A welcoming of their own grief.

I remember a time,
When being honest with integrity...
Actually made a difference to leave.
And people did not pass judgement,
Before they listened to comprehend.

And today people have grown accustomed...
To ignore the message to then blame the messenger,
For their mistakes made to say as if offended...
They should be forgiven for not being accountable,
As they played unconsciously until it became too late.

And I remember the day when I walked away to leave,
This insanity to embrace my peace.

Faces & Names

Faces and names, I wish they were the same
Faces and names only cause trouble for me
Faces and names
If we all looked the same and we all had the same name
I wouldnt be jealous of you or you jealous of me
Faces and names
I always fall in love with someone who looks
The way I wish that I could be
Im always staring at someone who hurts
And the one they hurt is me
Faces and names, to me theyre all the same
If I looked like you and you looked like me
Thered be less trouble you see
Faces and names, I wish theyd go away
Id disappear into that wall and never talk
Talk, not talk
I wish I was a robot or a machine
Without a feeling or a thought
People who want to meet the name I have
Are always disappointed when they meet me
Faces and names, I wish they were the same
Faces and names only cause problems for me
Faces and names
Id rather be a hole in the wall
Looking out on the other side
Id rather look and listen, listen and not talk
To faces and names
If I had a breakdown when I was a kid
I lost my hair when I was young
If you dress older when youre not
As your really age you look the same
If we all looked the same, we wouldnt play these games
Me dressing for you and you dressing for me
Undressing for me
Faces and names, if they all were the same
You wouldnt be jealous of me or me jealous of you
Me jealous of you, me jealous of you
Your face and your name
Your face and your name
Faces and names
Faces and names

You and Your Neighbor

You are correct!
I will not get upset,
Over those things your neighbor
Has done to you.
Nor do I care about those things shared,
The two of you choose to do!

You and your neighbor,
Have been doing what you do for years.
That what has been done now escalates?
Is none of my business.
I've never been invited on your discreet escapades.
And today I could care less,
About this mess going on between you two.

You are correct!
I will not get upset,
Over those things your neighbor
Has done to you.
Nor do I care about those things shared,
The two of you choose to do!

Remember then when I made my comments?
And you said to me,
My comments made were making you about to vomit?
You should have purged then!
Not today!
When you're knee deep in the mess you are in!

You are correct!
I will not get upset,
Over those things your neighbor
Has done to you.
If anything,
I congratulate you both!
You have graduated from avoidable ignorance...
To flat out public scrutiny that is assessed as stupidity.

No!
I do not want a cup of coffee.
I prefer these days to walk in peace,
And alone!

I have forgiven my sin's
I have forgiven myself.
I have forgiven my friends

I will remember my straits
I will remember my weaknesses

I remember hate
I remember love
I remember the diference

I know the difference between a friend and an enemy
I know myself and how to die

Know if i can only teach myself how too live
For without living.

Woody

Can you see me there when I'm standing alone?
How did you know I needed you here?
Can you feel the screams from the depth of my soul?
Is that what makes you appear?
See, I often wonder, in the presence of this all,
what we did to become this way.
And, I'll never forget when you whispered to me.
You said, don't worry it'll be ok.
Sometimes the sun calls our names.
And, sometimes we listen.
Sometimes the devil's there, but we just can't go with him.
Can you hear me now when I'm standing this close?
Can I tell you one of my fears?
See, I hope you live to sing when I die,
'cause if you're gone, I don't think I want to be here no more.
'Cause sometimes the sun calls our names.
And, sometimes we listen.
And, sometimes the devil's there,
but we just can't go with him.
Sometimes the sun calls our names, oh, no.
Sometimes we listen.
Sometimes the devil's there,
but we just can't go with him.

You can change the names

You can change the names
of places and call them,
what you want.

My people who life there,
will still be living there
next year and for many years more.

You can change the personnel
that work for the city
and the inadequate delivery of services
and corruption,
will in time make you
pay a handsome bill.

You can change the names of streets,
and fashion them
to your heroes.

Never could you undo
the acts of those
whose names they originally bared
and everyone that uses them
will still know
what they were called before.

Without fixing the roads
people will remember
about the holes in Slovo street
and the dead robots in Mandela drive,
which will keep them alive

You can change the names of airports
for its better that way,
that the world knows
that they coming
to an new country
that’s has fallen years behind,
from where it was before.

A moment missed

Remember when I asked you out?
And how you shed a tear.
Remember how I told you.
That I'd stay for all those years.

Remember our first kiss?
Under a moonlit sky.
Remember the fireworks.
That shone in your eyes.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

Remember all the promises?
That we never seemed to keep.
Remember all the times.
I held you when you'd weep.

Remember all the walks we took?
On the beach at midnight.
Remember when we were perfect?
And everything felt right.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

Remember that rose I sent you?
For our schools winter dance.
Remember when we broke up?
And I begged for a second chance.

Remember when you got pregant.
And I stayed right by your side.
Remember how I bought that ring?
And took your hand in mine.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

Remember when I became a dad?
And held my baby girl.
Remember how we fought for names.
And ended up with Pearl.

Remember her first birthday?
And that pretty teddy bear.
Remember her old blankie?
That she carried everywhere.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

Remember how you left me?
With not a word goodbye.
Remember how you took her?
And left me there to die.

Remember all those years?
That you spent far away.
Remember our dying love?
That was ment to always stay.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

Remember the years after?
When you became a whore.
Remember how you took off?
And walked through that same door.

Remember when you got drunk?
And they took our Pearl away.
Remember how I took the fall.
Even though you were too blame.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

Remember how you changed?
And forgot what use to be.
Remember how you hit her?
When our girl had just turned three.

Remember all those moments?
That we thought would last forever.
Remember all our memories?
That we had shared together.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

Remember when you lost your future?
And chose to slice your wrists.
Remember the note you sent me?
Saying please remember this.

Today it's three years later.
And our baby's turning five.
Today she has no mommy.
Because you chose to die.

A smeared kiss.
A moment missed.

I Forgot

Hey, it’s been so long since I have seen you.
I had to think awhile just to remember you.
I forgot the brightness in your smile.
I forgot gleam that shines in your eyes.
I forgot the soft sweet taste of your lips.
I forgot the way you used to make me move my hips.
But wait minute before you try to ease in my arms.
Because I do remember why we did part.
I remember the harsh names that you used to call me.
I remember the hurt you used to cause me.
I remember the last time we were together and you
nearly choked me to death. So you can keep
on walking cause the abuse I remember.
Don’t you even think that I forgot?

Do you remember...because I do

I remember when you said I love you
I remember when I said yeah me too

I remember when you said love me
I remember when you carved our names in that old oak tree

I remember our first kiss
and I ignored the fact that you missed

I remember when you said together...always
I remember when I stood in front of you dazzled and amazed

I remember the sparkle in your eyes and
I remember the tears you made me cry

I remember when I could never be truly honest with you
I remember me packing, and you asking is there anything that I can do

I remember when I looked into your eyes and
I remember when we said our goodbyes

You May Not Remember Me. But...

The best advice ever given to someone,
Was probably solicited.
With a promise not to become offended,
When the decision was made to deliver it.
To eventually despise the one who was direct.
Yes?

And after years of being upset...
The one given the advice once in denial,
Recognizes the advice to be the best.
Right?
And then with a doing...
There is an attempt to make amends.
Hoping to be forgiven.

'Hello...
You may not remember me.
But...
I was the one who asked for your advice.
And after you gave it to me...
I accused you of being mean and cruel.
And did everything I could to ruin your life.
Do you remember me?

Hello?

Hello? '

Well...
In 'some' cases when asking for advice,
And that advice is disliked?
It is highly recommended,
To leave one's mother out of it.
With an insinuating of one's preference.

Or disgracing someone,
Because of something you've done!
Since it is hard to overcome,
An impression made left as a reference.

I Forget Sometimes

I forget sometimes
What it was like to be young.
But then comes that instant
Like a word on the tip of your tongue
That gets muddled in the mind
and becomes hard to find.
I realize that memories fade.
And some I can't get back.
Yet some are so vivid,
some so exact.

I remember moving quickly,
never wanting to wait.
I remember impatience,
hating to be late.
I remember strange sensations
that came so quick.
I remember listening
to my clock that would tick.
But most of my youth
I've forgotten today.
Somehow it got lost
as I made my way.
How that happened
I forget sometimes.

Some People Listen Some People Don't

You judge me before my words can come out
You can’t even look my way
And you leave me with no doubt
You won’t listen to a word I say
And I will never be heard by you
No matter what it is that I do
Some people listen some people don’t
Some people listen some people won’t

You shut me up before I can speak
You shut me up so you can keep me weak
Now I breaking all your rules
That you have made just for me
To keep me away from my history
From my strength and my dignity
Some people listen some people don’t
Some people listen some people won’t

You don’t know how many times I have prayed
That you would hear the words that I have to say
Now get out of the way
Because we no longer have to stay in this prison of the mind
Because we find you guilty of the ultimate crime
Now get out of the way
So that they can hear what I have to say
And begin to make their plans for escape today

Even though you made me a thug,
It is out of love that I put my message out
Find your voice in school and follow the Golden Rule
And shout it out, with out a doubt
That you will be heard, until you are heard
Right down to the very last word
Some people listen some people don’t
Some people listen some people won’t

Remember Me

Remember me in hard times, in times of pain and sorrow,
remember your fellow man in hope of his dreams for tomorrow.
Remember what its like to be hated, and remember that they hated me first;
remember the words that I tell you, listen and fell no remorse.

Remember what I did for you, how I lead you from the hard-ache and pain, remember how you never thanked me, remember that you never praised my name.
I AM, who I AM, and who I'm meant to be, I am the one who you once loved, although you could never see. I delivered you from your owners, because you are one like me, remember how I loved you so, how my blood dripped from thee.

Remember of my coming, remember that I came, remember that I'm coming again, remember my blessed name. Remember how I died, remember that I rose again, remember everything I took for you especially the retched pain. Remember of my scares both mentally and physically for me, remember that I loved you, that I did this so you can be free. Remember of my tears, and red sweat that dripped from me, remember how it was never easy to set my own people free. Remember of my sacrifice, the death of my son on a tree, remember that no other action can equal to a greater sacrifice than me.

Remember those who love you, forgive those who don't, pray for those who hurt you, and love those who won't. Remember your brothers and sisters, not just because of relation to thee, remember them because I asked of you, will you listen to your savior's plea? Feed them if there hungry, anoint them if there sick, shelter them if there homeless, and do this oh so a quick. Do this in remembrance of me, because since I did it for you, and you do it for thee, then it might truly show.....that no one has forgotten me.

I May Admit Finally That I Am Lying

in our short conversation when you ask questions
about me i may answer you some lies and then
you wonder if i am the kind of person who makes lies
to you as i wonder too if you are the kind of person deserving
to be lied by myself, and so i try to figure out the lies
i made before and how honestly you believe them and then
i sort of changing myself, and slowly revealing some of the names
i keep on using, that these names may refer to one and the same
person, which is myself, and you honestly believe me and i am
of course, guilt-stricken and then i slowly unravel other names,
other places, other circumstances, sorting out my life,
page by page, and you listen carefully, and you also tell me
there are two of you, two names, and that is the truth,
and i honestly admit, i had some lies, lies for me to survive you
and this sad world, and then i begin to answer your question
with all honesty: you will regret it, there is more pain to the truth.

It Gets Better

Don’t wanna keep it going
Coz you feel your heart slowing
As the blade edges nearer
And you see everything clearer

Tears that run and hope that sways
Making you this twisted way
Never again will they tease
Coz this is the last time you will bleed

Won’t let them see the pain they cause
You won’t let them see your flaws
Coz now the blade is calling your end
And you know there’s no need to pretend

But please listen to my words letter by letter
You just need to know that it does get better
Don’t listen to their words, listen to your heart
Their words try to confuse and tear you apart

See them when they, so pathetically, fall
Remember the names they used to call
Well look at them now see their lies
And now watch them as they cry

Look it’s your choice now do you help
Or do you rip open their wounds hear them yelp
Are you going to forgive them and live your life?
Or will you cause them to relive your strife

Let me just tell you revenge gets you no where
Just show them that you don’t care
What they think or what they do
Because you simply want to be you

Remembrance Sunday 2001

That war word, has been given meaning yet again,
As we meet in the shadow of the twin towers
Seeking to remember those who died
In what seems so long ago, freedom remains illusive.
Freedom from fear, freedom to speak, freedom to worship.
So on this day, we say our thanks, with gratitude
To the names etched here long ago.
Remember with pride the sacrifice they made for us
Remember to the young who fight today
To keep that flame of freedom lit
Throughout our world, for all people
Remember to that single sacrifice
On a hill outside Jerusalem,
The one who called the world to love
Whose words inspire today’s, humanity
To seek that which is the ultimate power
To love your neighbour as yourself
The greatest challenge of all.
To become powerless, in a world
That seeks for power by domination

Hold Back The River

Stop your pretending
Listen to what Ive got to say
How your heads went away
Only here for a day
And that grave I just made
Is for me when I get paid
Wont you wait a while
Move to the blue
Sometimes people dont want to say
Old time dancers dont die that way
See that grave Ive just made
Its for me when I get paid
Somebodys gotta hold back the river
Somebody like you
Do you love and surrender
Sometimes I dont feel I can remember
I think its fair to mention
About the days when I get paid
Somebodys gotta hold back the river
Somebody like you
Somebodys gotta hold back the river
Somebody like you
I want a little loving
I told you all to listen
But you never liked what you heard
I take what I am given
This may sound absurd
I share a double vision
That started the transition
Hey wheres jimmy jazz
Steady on the scale
I told you to listen
I told you all to listen
Somebodys gotta hold back the river
Somebody like you
Somebodys gotta hold back the river
Somebody like you
You know that somebody
You know that somebody
You know that somebody
But it aint you

Do We Remember Them?

We remember our fathers
They remember their sons
Who fought long battles
And paid with their lives

We remember the glories
We have forgotten the pain, ,
of the widows and orphans,
of those who will never return again.

We remember the machinery
With which battles were fought
But the names of the fallen
Are all but forgot.

We remember, we say
With the crimson petalled poppy
And silence at eleven
On Remembrance Day

But of all the boys and men
Who fought wars large and small
Paying dearly with their lives
Do we really remember them, at all?

When that's all we have
Yesterday grows
And today becomes the past

Remember the sorrow
Everyone has over things
They wish they made last...

Oh, remember
I will remember

Remember the time
When life lived over slow
Tomorrow seems so far away
Today was all we know

Remember when we wanted to
Grow up way so fast
now yesterday's full
Of all thats lost away now casts

Do you friend remember
Now that tomorrow's gone
And all that's left of today
Is yesterday's timeless song
