Followed with a Hollowed Faith

I am who I am!
A proud and determined man.
And glad I am not limited to labels.
Call me anything you wish.
I am one of those folks,
Grateful to have life to breathe.
And grateful to be able to express,
A sharing of gifts...
With others to exchange to leave.

People who find time,
To restrict their origin with ethnic traces...
Without appreciating themselves,
Or whomever they debase.
Seek excuses to offend and discriminate...
And do so to incriminate with a satiation,
Those hypocrisies followed with a hollowed faith.
And they call themselves 'believers'!
But of what? Jealousy, deceit and hate?

Labels!

they call us poor white folks
'white trash'....
they call poor black folks
'niggers'....
they call poor Hispanic folks
all kinds of names,
'illegal' being the worst!

labels...
people who have too much
at the expense of the rest of us...
well insulated ignorance...
hatreds, that begin with hatred
of the self!

we're not labels!
we're just folks....
breathing, working, dreaming,
trying, doing the best we can....
we deserve the dignity
of being treated as human beings....

labels... hell no!
i'm not your boy, not your slave,
not your inferior...
i am human!
treat me as such!

If I Offend, So Be It

If I offend...
So be it!

I am not here,
To be the 'next' James Baldwin.
Or follow in the footsteps,
Of Langston Hughes.
The shoes I wear are quite comfortable.
And the path I walk upon,
Has not already been paved.
That is the task that has be laid before me.
To do that myself!

If I offend...
So be it!

I am not living my life intending to be anyone else,
Than who I am.
I am the first Lawrence S. Pertillar.
And make no mistake about it...
I will be acknowledged,
For the life I've lived.

If I offend...
So be it!

I just know who it is I am.
And I am not who I am because I seek to get paid for it!
Like most folks lost and deluded,
By the meaning of 'identity'.
I've been blessed and I am grateful...
To have a dignity as well.

And 'if' I offend...
So be it!
There's so many others,
Who have minds associated with making a quick buck.
And people like that...
Are indoctrinated with corrupted agendas!

Based Upon Materialistic Concepts

I can not call my breathing a hobby.
Nor do I relate,
To those who associate creativity...
To a dollar bill.

And there are many like that.
Attached to things.
Disconnected spiritually...
To any talents or gifts,
To them God brings!

When asked how much I 'make'...
I get irate with folks like that.
And those who say they have no time to create...
I know right away,
With them I do not relate.

And those who say they have faith in God...
To only admit,
They do not accept God given talents,
Are their main jobs.
I have limited patience.
Knowing from them,
I can only expect a production of excuses.
Based upon materialistic concepts.

And as I age...
From folks like this,
I wish to keep my distance.
And God kept pleased!
Since He is the only One,
To know where I come from.

I Owe Who I Am to You

How grateful I am,
To have lived.
And You have allowed it.

To experience seasons,
With changes that exist.
In an acceptance,
Of Your offerings...
That come and go,
To be as is.

And to be able to express this...
In a completedness,
I do not resist.
With an acknowledgement,
My life on Earth without You...
Would leave me less blessed,
And prehaps without gifts.

How grateful I am,
To have lived.
And You have allowed it.
To lead me to learn and to grow.
Knowing I owe who I am to You!

Whatever It Is

Whatever It is that I am thanking...
And however It knows what It does.
I am grateful to have It know my existence!
Grateful that It enters my heart and my soul,
Grateful that It knows!

Whatever It is that forgets and forgives...
And removes stumbling blocks from my life as I live.
Whatever It is before language came to be,
In my mind I carry It...
And in 'It' It carries me!

Whatever It is that I am thanking...
And however It knows what It does.
I am grateful to have It know my existence!
Grateful that It enters my heart and my soul,
Grateful that It knows!

Grateful It knows whatever It is...
So grateful It knows It within me grows!

Be Greatful

Be grateful to your creator
For he is your maker
Ungratefulness comes from
Greediness and selfishness
Ungrateful people are evil
It is the act of the devil
Be grateful
Instead of being scornful
Ungrateful people
Hate to show appreciation
For their life
Is full of illusion
Be grateful to your creator
For he is your maker

Grateful

I carry you up in my arms
Hear you sing yourself to sleep
The sky opens up over your room
You sail into your moonlight dreams
Theres so much more than we can see
Theres so much more than we can see
All we are and all we need is
All we are and all we need is
All we are is all we need to be
Grateful, oh grateful
Grateful, oh grateful
I play this guitar, sing these songs
It changes me, instantly
Love is too simple a word
For here comes the sun in the morning
Suddenly happiness
Comes rolling out from inside me
All we are and all we need is
All we are and all we need is
All we are is all we need to be
Grateful, oh grateful
Grateful, oh grateful
I carry you up in my arms
Hear you sing yourself to sleep
The sky opens up over your room
You sail into your moonlight dreams
Theres so much more than we can see
Theres so much more than we can see
All we are and all we need is
All we are and all we need is
All we are is all we need to be
Grateful, oh grateful
Grateful, oh grateful
(all we are and all we need is)
(all we are and all we need is...)

Do This For Yourself

Waking up and giving 'thanks',
Should dawn...
At the crack of the morning.

And waking up to say a prayer,
Would daily rid with a forgetting...
Those moans one groans to go on.

Appreciating more of life,
Than to moan and groan...
And choosing something that is liked,
Will...
Make living life better,
To chase away what has gone.

Get up determined to feel grateful...
Everyday.
Get up determined to feel loved...
Everyday.
Get up determined to confess...
Blessings!
And...
Do this for yourself everyday.

Waking up and giving 'thanks',
Should dawn.
And...
Do this for yourself everyday.

It Is Time To Leave Them Alone

The moment it has been noticed,
That a people have accepted their conditioning...
To remain confined and limited in mind,
With excuses to make to stay that way...
Down to Earth to express pretentions,
In insecure and hypocritical ways obeyed.
It is time to leave them alone.

A process to awaken poses a threat to them.
And anyone suggesting,
They should stretch their consciousness...
By experiencong something different and fresh,
Is whispered and gossiped about trying to do their best...
Of being better than everyone else.

It is easy to observe,
People defiant and what they approve.
The proof is in what they accept!
And what they choose with their time to do.

'I can't stand them.'

~Why? ~

'Listen to the way they talk and walk.
How they dress and express themselves.
And the things that they do...
That are separated from us and the rest.'

~You mean speaking with clarity?
As if they are proud and have identity?
And they seek to know more about their surroundings,
To increase their minds and can not be defined as ignorant?
With a moving forward to discover truth and reality?
And being criticized doesn't seem to bother their integrity,
Since unity means to them being freed from stupidity? ~

'I can't stand them! '

~And I can see why,
They have decided to leave you alone.~

You Never know

Look out heart…
"I am grateful"…is not love…
Doing something for someone…
And getting…(I'm grateful) …
Is a watch out word…
You heard…"I can't love you"…
I'm just grateful, to you…
Oops…
Just grateful…?
Just grateful…!
You know…how I…feel about you…
And you…say…just grateful…
Damn! …
I expected much more…
From such a special touch…
Which was…I know now… a…
I am grateful…kind of touch…
How was I to know…?
My heart is on the floor…
Door…wide open…
Eye…running wet…
And yet…
I mis-judged-what-…
That look and touch was…
I guess I am grateful…as well…

For all we have

I AM SO GRATEFUL
FOR ALL WE HAVE
WE DON’T HAVE MUCH
FOR CHRISTMAS IS NEAR
I SAY MY PRAYERS
THAT OUR HEAVENLY FATHER IS HEAR
TO BLESS US ALL
NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE
WHETHER WE’RE IN ONE PLACE
OR SCATTERED AFAR
AS WE AWAKE ON CHRISTMAS MORNING
AND SIT BY THE FIRE
I PRAY TO GOD
THAT MY KIDS HAVE GIFTS TO OPEN
WITH MONEY SO TIGHT
AND DOORS THAT WILL OPEN
WE LIFT UP OUR HEARTS
ON CHRISTMAS MORNING
WE ARE THANKFUL FOR FRIENDS
AND FAMILY TOO
CHRISTMAS IS NOT ABOUT
ALL THE GIFTS THAT’S SO TRUE
WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT
IT’S TO CELEBRATE JESUS’S BIRTH
BUT PEOPLE TAKE IT TOO FAR
AND GO ALL OUT WITH GIFTS
INSTEAD OF CELEBRATING LIFE
WHAT WE SHOULD BE
IS SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL WE HAVE
EVEN IF IT’S NOT MUCH
THAT’S ALL WE HAVE
THAT’S WHAT CHRISTMAS SHOULD BE ALL ABOUT.

Irrational And Static Combatives

There is no justification I can show,
For resenting those spending their lives...
Wasting their gifts to them presented,
In fears they try to hide with lies.
Or those who actually have created careers,
Preventing others...
From doing what they do,
By the use of backroom tactics...
Intentionally to smear with a doing so clear.

I've witnessed the evidence,
How a sharing of gifts increases progress.
I've witnessed the evidence,
Of those blocking others with a stopping...
That eventually diminishes their own quality of life.
Only to call for a unified effort...
When it begins to dawn on them,
A doing of nothing done...
Reflects a jealousy deceivers participate in.
Leaving them to become losers...
In a game they sought to see others victims.

There is no justification I can show,
For resenting those spending their lives...
Wasting their gifts to them presented,
In fears they try to hide with lies.
Or those who actually have created careers,
Preventing others...
From doing what they do,
By the use of backroom tactics...
Intentionally to smear with a doing so clear.
Defining with unquestioned meaning...
The demeaning of irrational and static combatives.

I have no justification for a resentment shown towards this.
Although there is a definite existence of it,
In environments where people find this accepting.
And I'm discovering my tolerance becoming more limited.
Although from it,
I do choose to move but still feel affected.

Is it ignorance if it overwhelms and conditions?
Is it ignorance if it conditions into subdivisions?
Is it just a condition of ignorance...
That continues to offend when this is mentioned?

Grateful When You'r Dead (bonus-live)

I'm painting, I paint a picture in you're mind
If you're driving roads to suicide, I know you can sympathise
If you're love is a cheatin', and you're blinded by the pain
You're honeymoon in summer is a picnic in the rain...
You'll be grateful when you're dead, Grateful when you're dead
Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba.
I'm shaking, I shake the spear before you're eyes
Well if you know you're history, you will read between lines
If you're waiting for a vision, to illuminate you're mind
To leave this world of misery, to leave it all behind
You'll be grateful when you're dead, Grateful when you're dead
Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba.

To Seek New Lows

Those who wish with you,
To seek new lows.
With a disrespect...
That sinks deeper into neglect,
Of one's integrity.
Let these folks go.

Unless a willingness to be dragged,
Through the mud and laughed at...
Is a desired goal.
Some people can get too familiar,
With what they believe another should accept.
As a means of a closeness to be given one gets.

Let these folks go.
Unless a willingness to be dragged,
Through the mud and laughed at...
Is a desired goal.
Who knows?
There are those who call this behavioral nonsense,
Friendship.

'Uh...
I'm gonna have to find,
Another way to occupy my time.
'Cause you don't know me like that!
Nor will I allow this sleaze appeal,
To get any deeper to offend in a new dimension.'

With A Little Faith

Let courage stir within your heart,
Let knowledge stay your friend,
Let wisdom from the Lord impart
What's needed till life's end...
Life's simply but a journey here,
A whistle-stop on tour,
It doesn't matter what the year,
For only God keeps score...

Let simple joys delight your soul,
Let others share your day,
Let confidence grant self-control
So you won't go astray...
Life's all we've got upon this Earth,
This world that spins in space,
Yet God has proved each life has worth,
If we but seek His face...

Let your thanksgivings make God proud,
Let kindness grow within,
Let little faith rise like a cloud
To overcome and win...
Life's truly meant for those who seek
The better part, no less,
With every single soul unique,
Their conquests to express...

By faith, by faith, by faith alone,
Believers battle on,
As if their hearts were strong as stone,
As if all doubts were gone...
Let little faith in little hearts
Transcend both good and bad,
For when each soul this world departs,
Our faith still makes God glad...

Drugged Up and Prescribed Medicated Existences Limited

If folks think I'm a homo?
I'm gonna give them that,
And something more than homo.
If they think of me as straight?
They will get that too,
On their dinner plate.

People finding slots to lock,
Names and tags on one another...
Have done themselves the injustice.
And grounded, they are, in cemented ignorance.

Trying to find themselves in religions,
Where those 'church' addicted commit most the sins.
Is a programming of the mind that's done.
To have those in need be controlled by someone.

And me,
My life will be loved.
Independently to breathe as it was given to me.
And if another human being wishes to hug me with love,
They will get that received.
Just how it was given to me.
But I do have my preferences.
If you get my drift!

So if folks think I'm a homo?
I'm gonna give them that,
And something more than homo.
If they think of me as straight?
They will get that too,
On their dinner plate.

I do not spend my time,
With folks seeking to find a hole
To bury their brains including their minds.
Is there anything else folks can do?
Than to entertain their empty lives,
With who screwing and doing 'who'.
This is all so immature and foolish.

I'm going to live my life as the gift it is.
And leave those who are self righteous about theirs,
To their own drugged up and prescribed medicated existences limited.

'I bet you can't say that five times fast? '

What? 'drugged up and prescribed medicated existences limited'?
You're right!
I had trouble saying it 'that' time and the first as slow as possible.
I am the author.
So...
I don't have to say it at all.
It's written and for that purpose intended.

Several Things I Hate About You

I hate when you call my name
I hate when you send me mail
I hate when you give me rings in the middle of the nights
I hate when you give me precious gifts
I hate when you gaze at me
I hate when you understand me
I hate when I'm in rough times, you support me
I hate when I'm weak, you give me strength
I hate when you tell me that you care about me
I hate when you stand by me
I hate when you hold me
I hate when you spoil me
I hate when you share everything with me
I hate when you draw a smile on my face
I hate when you dry my tears
I hate when you take away all my fears
I hate when I'm sad you make me glad
I hate how deeply I'm in love with you

Fix Your Own Wreckage

You fix your own wreckage.
I have lost all patience to assist.
When I determined I would face obstacles,
Alone on my path is how I did it.

Even those who knew my struggles,
Did not trouble themselves to be curious.
Nor when they witnessed my crawling on knees,
To me not one expressed concern or interest.

You fix your own wreckage.
I have lost all patience to assist.
When I determined I would face obstacles,
Alone on my path is how I did it.

Call me selfish!
Call me whatever you please.
But nowhere around were you...
When a healing began with a kept faith within me.

You fix your own wreckage.
And make 'that' your opportunity,
To appreciate your life...
With a making of less excuses done so easily.

Testimony Time

Believers, you'll find everywhere,
Each with a tale to tell,
Of how they sought the Lord in prayer,
When into sin they fell...
Though many folks aren't criminals,
According to Man's laws,
God beckons us with many calls,
With total love not force...

Believers come, believers go,
One life on Earth to live
And yet, how can Man's spirit grow
If God would not forgive?
So many souls enslaved by sin,
How can God set them free?
The Bible helps each soul begin,
But first at Calvary...

Believers learn God's ways in time,
Since prophecies abound,
With each fulfillment so sublime
That wisdom must be found!
The sorrows of the past are healed
In spirit, body, soul,
When Jesus Christ has been revealed
And when He takes control...

Believers each have ministries,
Ordained by God above!
If they obey and seek to please,
His grace will prove enough...
Please listen to their tales of grace,
Their miracles, their prayers,
As they, the Gospel Truth embrace
And do what Jesus says!

Denis Martindale, copyright, June 2011.

The poem is about the Revelation TV show
called Testimony Time in which the lifestories
of Christian believers help explain how they
first believed and how God has made them
overcomers. Though in this world we find
many troubles and setbacks, there is still
the message of the Cross, the gifts of hope,
new life and eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Less Thought to Accomplish

It would be wonderful to leave tags and labels,
On everyone.
To ensure that having a satisfaction is done.
And those tags and labels never move in time.
Remaining in our minds as something that takes,
Less thought to accomplish.
But so grateful we are when the ease of it is found.

It would be wonderful to claim people are what we say.
And from our narrow perspectives they would stay that way.
To perfect a game that is safely played,
In a world getting more complexed everyday.
And everyday there seems to be disappointments made,
When nothing we pigeon-hole fits properly in its place.
And we become stressed to locate a depiction that conveys...
Just what those limits are that comforts our consciousness.
