Dreams That Arrest
If I nested how could I rest?
While even in sleep I am tested,
By dreams that arrest.
To leave me awakened with questions.
And I am left to address them.
Unlocking from the subconscious,
Of their hold.
To comprehend with an understanding...
Alone to unfold.

Your Playing Days With Me Are Over
Your playing days with me are over.
I awakened this morning and declared them so.
Over and done are those childish antics.
A new day has dawned and you must go!
Do those things that attract you most like.
Those things you wish,
Keeping you in that self centeredness.
Restricted to limits and lack of growth.
I no longer can describe a relationship...
Without communication or an understanding that exists.
If I can comprehend this,
And you are in denial.
There is nothing left that benefits.
I can get a pet for companionship.
Simple questions that I ask...
Find you skipping and dancing around a bush.
I'm not in this to play dentist or psychiatrist.
With wishes to extract your teeth!
Only to pound my balled fists...
And maintaining self control to explain any of it!
I want love.
Not a battleground to dodge your temper tantrum fits.
I'm sure you can discover someone who thinks that's bliss!
I don't!
Your playing days with me are over.
I awakened this morning and declared them so.
Over and done are those childish antics.
A new day has dawned and you must go!

Expected To Be Protected
There was a time I too,
Sought justification...
For my insecurities.
And excused my frustrations.
Then one day,
My faith was all I had left.
And I awakened to a depth of understanding.
With a comprehension that scared me half to death.
I realized I fed myself a safety net of deceptions.
And expected to be protected by God.
And God tested me with truth.
The kind that peels away all falsities.
Leaving me with a peace of mind.
I believed outside myself I had to find!

How Many Times Have You Asked Yourself
Finally...
You reach home.
Believing you are sheltered.
And will get deserving rest!
Then suddenly the phone rings.
To leave you wondering,
If the caller is someone you should address.
And with unanswered questions,
You unleash from your mind...
What should be done next!
You want to know...
How many times,
Have you...
Asked yourself,
How many times...
You've asked yourself,
How could you find...
Yourself in the middle of somebody else's mess!
How many times,
Have you...
Asked yourself,
How many times...
You've asked yourself,
How could you find...
Yourself in the middle of somebody else's mess!
When you have issues you have not yet to address.
How many times,
Have you...
Asked yourself,
How many times...
You've asked yourself,
How could you find...
Yourself in the middle of somebody else's mess!
Relax?
You can't!
A tension is enhanced.
The phone keeps ringing to erase the chance.
And...
How many times,
Have you...
Asked yourself,
How many times...
You've asked yourself,
How could you find...
Yourself in the middle of somebody else's mess!
When you have issues you have not yet to address.
And that somebody wants to disturb your rest.
And with unanswered questions,
You unleash from your mind...
What should be done next!
You want to know...
How many times,
Have you...
Asked yourself,
How many times...
You've asked yourself,
How could you find...
Yourself in the middle of somebody else's mess!
When you have issues you have not yet to address.
And that somebody wants to disturb your rest.
How many times,
Have you asked yourself...
How many times,
You've asked yourself....
How many times have you done this and did nothing else?
To be there to please somebody else...
And not yourself!

How Do You Sleep At Night
(jim mcbride/jerry salley)
I havent had a good nights sleep
In weeks now thanks to you
The ghost of broken promises you made
Haunts every room
A hurtin heart cant get no rest round here
I lie awake and wonder how
Your conscience could be clear
How do you sleep at night
Do you toss and turn till the morning light
Does the darkness help
When you lie down with the truth?
How do you sleep at night?
Are you all alone or do you hold someone tight
Do you see me
When you close your eyes?
How do you sleep at night?
Now your side of the beds as cold
As the lies that I believed
Im at the point when I cant even
Trust you in my dreams
Did the way you left me leave you feelin proud?
Or does the loneliness come callin
When the sun goes down?
How do you sleep at night
Do you toss and turn till the morning light
Does the darkness help
When you lie down with the truth
How do you sleep at night
Are you all alone or do you hold someone tight
Do you see me
When you close your eyes
How do you sleep at night

Lord I Guess I'll Never Know
I heard you stirring in your sleep last night
I was awake with something on my mind
What happens when I leave, will you come with me?
These things I guess I'll never know
Tell me, who do you see when you die in your dreams?
Tell me, who do you touch when you come in your dreams?
I know that sometimes I get lost
Been asking questions since the day I could talk
Life is sweet but when my bones get cold
Will you be there for me to hold?
Tell me, who do you see when you die in your dreams?
Tell me, who do you touch when you come in your dreams?
Tell me, who do you see when you die in your dreams?
Tell me, could it be yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You holding me
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know (repeat)
When you die in your dreams
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know
Will I be holding you?
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know
When I die in my sleep
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know
Will I be holding you?
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know
When you come in your dreams
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know
Am I holding you
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know
When you come in your dreams
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know
Am I holding you
Oh Lord, I guess I'll never know

Implications Of Empty Spaces
some poems
use spaces
of implied emptiness
between the lines
during the reading emptiness
may tug at the subconscious
begging reason intellect rationalists
understanding
to comprehend
messages
in empty spaces
the mind heart soul turns

It Is Too Late To Appease With Trite Apologies
Let me bring you up to date,
And clarify that notion...
What you 'assume' for you,
Is not too late to do.
To believe someone stands by and waits,
For you to comprehend...
What should have been comprehended,
During times that have come to an end...
Way back when...and 'then'?
It is too late to announce your understanding.
For an effect you expect to get.
To cleanse a slate.
Feelings you purposely hurt have healed.
And reminiscing a pain no one finds ideal.
Your appearance someone might appreciate.
But your conversation with excuses made...
Has long been outdated.
And it is too late to appease with trite apologies.
Your enlightenment that has awakened you,
To the feelings of others you had abused...
Is good for 'your' experience to process and digest.
But that painful healing that took place,
With a patience someone left alone to manifest...
Without your heartfelt confession to put at rest,
Has occurred with the grace only received from God.

A Love: Tested By The Faith Of All Men
Walk with me, hold my hand, be for me my friend!
Last it shall, more than all else, until our life doth end!
Forget might you then how you really feel-
Allow me then, your heart, to once again steal!
Allowance made for dreams, now on hold;
Dreams made from reality, is how our's is betold!
Deference of dreams is but a waste-
So too then must we reverse the course, post haste!
Our love, tested by much; More important than this, lest
You should forget, why we are here-though, to never, is best!
I am here and you, there-together, yet distanced!
But to have thought, other than reality, is but for me, a pittance!
Our love, a love: tested by the faith of all men-
Time allows truth's emergence, until we meet again!

Leave Me to Sit With Suspicions
Leave me to sit with suspicions.
Then say I do not trust.
Leave me to feel uncomfortable,
When questions I ask,
You care not to discuss.
Leave to understand,
I comprehend when I don't.
Take for granted I will do what you wish,
To do the opposite.
Knowing this I should do.
And what it is you wish,
I wont.
Leave me to sit with suspicions?
This you do as if okay.
Don't be surprised upon your return...
I request you to go away!

Truth Of Truth!
Truth of truth is this,
Behind every heart, may be beautiful,
Or not,
There is that great truth,
We awakened from sleep of innocence,
Awakened to dream
Just innocently witness cosmic
play And
Go back into sleep of innocence once again, this happens eternally,
and now and then we awakened into dream and once again go to sleep!
The same recycled energy and matter,
The same innocent child grow and die,
Die only to get recycled some how and somewhere!

What my mama utters in her deathbed
She is dying of diabetes, all her organs
Malfunctioning
On sugared complications,
Except some portions of her brain
Still asking questions,
Where is Leonora?
She is in the office mama still working
And where is Betty?
She is on your bedside mama and she is crying
Why? Is she sad? Did she pay her debts to the china man?
And where is Marcelino? Mama he is in Nigeria working
On a foreign ship and he has no way of coming,
his company is
Not allowing him to take his leave,
But his wife is here.
I don’t want her here
Who are you? Mama, I am Ric your son,
I am your favorite, don’t you
Remember me anymore?
Hold my hand; I am seeing some ghosts of your grandpa and grandma
And they hated me, hold my hand and hug me, I am cold, get me a blanket
And where is your papa? Mama, papa will be coming in a minute, but he
Is still drunk, but he loves you mama,
Who are you?
I do not know you; I was never a part of your dreams,
Leave me.
Mama, I am holding you, you are not cold you are warm,
Mama, just sleep
And she goes away just like that, sleeping on a travel, just like that,
And Betty cries,
Did she love her? Did he also love her?
when she died, some of us were there,
but i know she would have been happier left alone
to figure out
death herself

Up North (Down South, Back East, Out West)
(Danny Wells/Jill Wood)
In spite of the name, Independence, Kansas
Didn't grow many wild roses
But she was young and restless
And I loved her though holding her down was hopeless
I wanted her to say she couldn't live without
The life I had to offer but all she could talk about
Was faraway dreams, cities she'd never seen
How do I find that girl when she could be
Out there anywhere she just up and left
She didn't leave a forwarding address
Or a trail for my lonely heart to follow
Which one of those four winds should I go chasing
She could be in a million places I guess
Up north, down south, back east, out west
She could be up in the Windy City
Where the world spins a little bit faster
Or gettin' a tan down in Miami that might be where I'd catch her
Maybe back in Virginia, her cousin lives there
Out in Arizona, she'd fit in anywhere
It's anyone's guess where she came to rest
My one chance for happiness is
Out there anywhere she just up and left
She didn't leave a forwarding address
Or a trail for my lonely heart to follow
Which one of those four winds should I go chasing
She could be in a million places I guess
Up north, down south, back east, out west
I'm sitting here at a four-way intersection
Praying Lord won't you point me in the right direction
She could be
Out there anywhere she just up and left
She didn't leave a forwarding address
Or a trail for my lonely heart to follow
Which one of those four winds should I go chasing
She could be in a million places I guess

Due For Much Success
I had not decided to become impressive.
Anyone who knows me...
Knows that's the last thing,
I wish to address.
I don't think anyone begins with that in mind.
One who lives to do their best...
Isn't obsessed by impressions left.
Or have concerns with what they should do next.
When I hear that I've impressed...
By doing something I enjoy.
I wonder to myself,
What is it I've employed?
I know I've been considered 'different'
In an environment where folks are conformed.
I have never felt restricted by conditions like that!
Perhaps that is why I've been considered out of the 'norm'.
I've always been encouraged to express myself.
And not to follow on a path...
Laid down by someone else.
I was taught to listen to comprehend.
And to leave my mind open,
For a thinking process to begin!
I had not decided to become impressive.
Anyone who knows me...
Knows that's the last thing,
I wish to address.
However...
I am willing to bet it is holding myself accountable.
And acknowledging my mistakes...
That so many are afraid to say they make!
And if that impresses...
I am due for much success!

From The Moment You Awakened
From the moment you awakened,
To face a new day.
As fresh as the leaving,
Of scented morning dew.
It was you who made decisions,
To address as you presented yourself...
With choices you alone made.
From the moment you awakened,
Until you made accusations...
To place blame on someone else,
For that which you alone chose to do...
Is to say to anyone within listening distance,
From the moment you awakened...
To face the day,
You premeditated to find excuses to make.

The computer and its information cannot answer any of the fundamental questions we need to address to make our lives more meaningful and humane. The computer cannot provide an organizing moral framework. It cannot tell us what questions are worth asking. It cannot provide a means of understanding why we are here or why we fight each other or why decency eludes us so often, especially when we need it the most. The computer is... a magnificent toy that distracts us from facing what we most need to confront — spiritual emptiness, knowledge of ourselves, usable conceptions of the past and future.

If You Ever Did Believe
Youve left me now
And its seasoned my soul
And with every step you take,
I watch another part of you go
I continue to build a wall
You were so strong,
I fell to my knees
And I dont think I can handle this at all
Well one more night
Id like to lie and hold you
Yes and feel
To make you smile,
Id like to be there for you--
Have you forgotten me?
And the days go by
Doing nothing about them
How much time
Will I have to spend?
My mind wont rest
And I dont sleep
Not even in my dreams
If you ever did believe
For my sake
If you ever did believe
And the days go by
Doing nothing about them
How much time
Will I have to spend?
And the days go by
Doing nothing about them
How much time
Will I have to spend?
Well one more night
Id like to lie and hold you
Yes and feel
To make you smile,
Id like to be there for you--
Have you forgotten me?
Ooo....ooo.....ooo...
Ooo baby dont leave me
Ooo..ooo...ooo...ooo
Im down on my knees...
Ooo..ooo...ooo...ooo
Begging you please...
Ooo...ooo...ooo...ooo
Baby dont leave me....
Did you ever believe?

Lullaby, Go To Sleep
I'll ne'er forget the day,
When I was young and gay,
A rolling 'round the floor in Tennessee;
From th' cotton field so white,
My ma would come at night,
And fondly hold me in her arms and say:
Go to sleep, baby mine,
Little birdie in your nest;
Humming bees have left the vine,
Go to sleep and take your rest.
In winter cold and chill,
At night, when all was still,
I'd wake to find her standing over me,
A smile upon her face,
A creepin 'round the place,
She'd tuck the cover over me, and sing:
Go to sleep, baby mine,
Little birdie in your nest;
Humming bees have left the vine,
Go to sleep and take your rest.
So many years have passed,
Since we assembled last,
That dear old soul has gone away to dwell.
If this whole world was mine,
The wealth I would decline,
If I could only hear my mother sing:
Go to sleep, baby mine,
Little birdie in your nest;
Humming bees have left the vine,
Go to sleep and take your rest.

I'm Going To Finish This Poem!
I'm going to finish this poem!
Yes, just you wait and see!
This isn't some fancy or whim
Or flight of fantasy!
No, I'll finish the thing today!
Not 'some day'… 'later on'!
In fact, I'm not going away
Until its light has shone!
'Cos half an insight's not worth much –
It doesn't help a jot!
I'm staying here! I shall not budge
Until I've done the lot!
I'll make no coffee, make no tea,
No cocoa, not a drop!
I'll strive to solve the mystery
And then, by God, I'll stop!
I'd like each heart to comprehend…
Here's my 'labour of love'!
Just thirty lines, that's all, my friend!
I think they'll prove enough…
While others sleep, I stay awake,
Intent on rhymes untold!
They're like the icing on the cake
That help my tale unfold!
I'm almost there! Not much to ask!
Just seven lines to do!
Now six completes my noble task!
Now five! I'm almost through!
Four lines to go, then off to bed!
Thank God for future themes!
It's time to rest my weary head!
I'VE DONE IT! PLEASANT DREAMS! !
