Courteous In Demeanor

I received my first lesson early.
I made my mother upset and she said,
'Do that one more time! '
Her eyes were wide and fixed.
Here lips were pressed together,
In this mix of grin and tightened smile.
I knew that 'one more time'...
I better not do!

The best training ever,
I received in the military.
And I will never forget,
Being whipped into discipline...
At the tender age of 18.
Grown...
I thought!
And missing home within 24 hours!
AND taking advanced college courses...
IN the military too!
Arrogant and as proud as ever.

I guess today you can say,
I am a bit 'Obamalistic'!

As I grow more observant,
And peaceful within myself.
I see folks who dismiss their responsibilities.
With no acceptance of accountability at all.
And I wonder how they survive...
Being blinded by their self indulgence.
Who breast fed these imbeciles?

Oh well...
I use to give that a lot of my concern.
However,
Today?
When it comes to my peace of mind...
And quickly leaving foolishness behind?
I believe in exercise.
Yes!
And I do it everyday.
I know 'when' and 'how' to apply my moves.
With the utmost dignity...
That is courteous in demeanor.
First!
Then I quickly split from the BS!

All That Is Regarded Foolishness

With experiences lived.
And an aging process accepted,
One realizes upon reflection...
How much easier it is to judge.
Than it is to self-examine.

Not many are fortunate to survive,
Through life threatening diseases.
To then step aside with their eyes open wide,
With a freeing of themselves from insecurities left...
Hidden deep inside to confront and rid.

With experiences lived.
And an aging process accepted,
One realizes upon reflection...
How much easier it is to judge.
Than it is to self-examine.

But when that moment in time comes,
An accepting of one's flaws and blemishes are done.
With a leaving behind trivial nonsense.
And all that is regarded as foolishness,
Becomes less tolerated to quickly dismiss.

Yesterday and those mistakes made,
And all that is regarded as foolishness...
Becomes less tolerated to quickly dismiss.

Wishing for excuses and alibis to create,
Becomes less tolerated to quickly dismiss.
And all that is regarded as foolishness disappears.

1988

i see the tables turning
they turn with speed
i watch the fire burning
burning to the sea
i heard a holy story
i laughed out loud
a man who chases the wind
never should be proud
they can always find a way
to pull you down
make you feel so small invisible
another sent to take the final part of me
give me my lesson for today, (i can't hear you)
fill me with hope and quickly betray
when i am barely breathing
they come for me
i wish i never saw them
walk all over me
they can always find a way to pull you down
make you feel so small invisible
another sent to take the final part of me
give me my lesson for today, (i can't hear you)
fill me with hope and quickly betray
it's my fault
i should have never trusted
it never fails
to bring me down
so hear me out
always busted
you got yours
guess i got mine
your high score
my waste of time
give me my lesson for today, (i can't hear you)
fill me with hope and quickly betray
give me my lesson for today, (i can't hear you)
fill me with hope and quickly betray

Raised to be Totally Independent

I knew my mother very well.
In fact...
We were related.
By birth.
Somehow folks that knew us both,
Either did not know that or accept
My mother and I knew each other before
Many of them did.
Many people would come to me,
To say what kind of person she was.
As if I was a visitor...
That showed up on the holidays.
I am the result of my mother's teachings.
And I hope I've done her lessons well.
In fact...
When I had been just a kid at 18,
And had enlisted in the military.
My training instructors were amazed
That I was so disciplined.
I already knew how to iron, sew, cook and clean.
Many of those things some guys struggled,
Through.
As they endured basic training.
People without military training aren't aware...
If mama wasn't there,
Uncle Sam ensured those things got done!
Or no guy would survive on just learning how to clean a gun.
My mama didn't pack no gun.
But she knew what was best for her son!
And to a large degree...
My mama prepared me to confront the enemy.
My ex-wives!
And I say that kind of jokingly.
But I was raised to be totally independent,
Since I can remember.

Without A Drumroll Or A Cheering Audience

I was still in my early twenties,
When I felt I had earned my doctorate's degree.
After I had graduated from elementary school,
I had already received my 'bachelor's'.
I was taught to be accountable,
For every responsible action I made.

I did not have a childhood.
I had chores and responsibilities.
And had been a latchkey child by the age of 5.
That was before the innocence of children,
Were identified to be protected and realized.
I was taught to value independence....first!

I was still in my early twenties,
When I felt I had earned my doctorate's degree.
Married, divorced and a military veteran...
I knew my life had excelled through a course,
To experience early such maturity.
And that wasn't a choice!
But more like a marriage of enforcement.

And my tolerance for those who are ignorant is low.
Extremely!
Especially when I've seen people pull themselves up,
Out of places few would dare to go.
Without a drumroll or a cheering audience to encourage.
With so many today wasting their minds and time,
Debating their entitlements while sitting on wide behinds...
Expecting a delivery of some kind they did not earn.

Lips Spilling With Disrespect

Grateful today I am not to be raising children.
By anyone's definition,
Of just how old those children grow to be.

And today many are raising children,
Who have skipped lessons taught in their childhood...
With a missing of a switch.
To be in their 30's...
With a lot that has been missed.

I did have a son, Michael...
Who many years passed away.
And I cringe at the thought,
Of what today he, Michael, to me would say.

Lips spilling with disrespect,
From the mouths of these children...
Who are quick to express how they are upset,
Would motivate me to the first policeman I'd see.
To request my immediate arrest from their mess.

'Put the handcuffs on me, please!
Someone dear to me is about to bleed.
And I pay my taxes.
So there is no need to question me.
Put the handcuffs on me, please!
And if you can do this immediately...
So happy I would be! '

I am just not the one,
To throw up my hands to say...
What has been done is done.
Oh no!
Out the door someone has to go.
And since I am paying the bills...
Someone other than me,
Is going to feel that chill.

I am the one I am sure would be confined.
Because no child of mine...
Is going to fill my ears with their nonsense.
And 'if' that should happen...
It will be a long time before they awaken,
From an unconsciousness achieved...
By an asking for 'it'.

'I have no idea what happened to him, officer.
He made a request.
And I delivered.
He requested a taste of fist.
What could I do but to deliver it.'

And that is why today,
I don't guess or wonder why...
I am blessed.
I know this without a doubt,
That's why I enjoy my peace with no regrets.
None at all to figure out!

Oh no!
I am the one I am sure would be confined.
That's why I know,
All blessings I have received,
I have earned every one and know they are mine.

What a big joke

What a big joke
the new defence force has become,
where three thousand soldiers
strike and run riot
and it’s people
who chooses to be soldiers.

If Jan Smuts ruled
they would have been dead
as he let them
load a gun
for Jopie Fourie
and to me it’s nothing less
than revolt
for which people in the past
could pay the ultimate penalty.

I almost laughed myself apart
when medical troops
where brought to justice
for whoring
and I wondered
what was now happening
at the once great 1 Mil?

What kind of army has no discipline
and in what defence force
troops and junior officers
tell generals
how to do their thing
and the President
is challenged
to take instructions?

In my time you where bound by law
to go without any choice
to the defence force
and if you did not go there,
the military police
quickly came to fetch you
at home.

In my defence force
nonsense was taken out of you
from the start
and the authority of higher ranks was supreme
and we exercised with a pole and tyre
and received
the best training there.
.
For two years we
had to do national service
against a pauper’s pay
and it felt at a time
as if the camps
would never end.

a Soldier pointed his finger
at a lieutenant
and received thirty days
in the detention barracks
for it.

It was a defence force
that showed its fist
to Swapo, Fapla,
the Cubans and Russians
and the best soldiers
knew their duty.

Against what foe
will this new army be able to stand
if there’s no discipline
and like in a asylum people run amok
and I wonder
what omen
is hitting the new South Africa
where patriotism
lies at the backdoor
and every soldier thinks
that he’s a general
and like all things
in this once great country,
this army is more than pathetic
against what it once was.

Perhaps It Is This Lack Of Discipline

Perhaps there was a sense of responsibility,
Others and myself had perceived as a duty...
When we enisted into the military.
As young men with initiative.
And wanting to prove we had accountability.

Perhaps too it was the knowing,
At the age most of us were 21...
Some of us had married and experienced,
Living away from a known comfort zone...
To begin living lives in other environments,
With a making of a home and on our own.

And perhaps that has been,
The reason for my impatience...
With those who today complain,
About decsions they've made to lay on others blame.
Without having the courage to adventure forward,
To adjust to something new and embrace the change.

And perhaps it is this lack of discipline,
Welcomed by immature grown men and women...
Who believe they are owed entitlements,
Given without earning them...
With demands and claims,
That so many today are clearly insane...
And spoiled by their prioritized delusions.

The Old Woman and Today

She awoke early with a pep today
A glimmer in her eye and strong step today
She thought of a menu that would bring a smile today
as she thought of her husband so lovingly today
She cracked the eggs and placed them in the pan today
Se buttered his toast and peeled his fruit today
She poured his glass so full today
She placed the flowers n her favorite vase today

She slowly sat down at the table today
the realization hit her like a cement truck today
She lowered her eyes as she thought of the day
You see, the old man had long been dead by today

The disease of old persons made her forget today
Made her cook breakfast for three today
When I entered the room, I asked her sadly, 'What's wrong today? '
She said, 'I'll greive just the same as I did that day
because my soulmate just died again today.'

Today

Today I received your letter of good- bye
Today is the first day I started to cry.
Today I remembered the things of the past
And I always thought that our love would last.

This is something I must live with every day
What did I do? What did I say?

Today I said a prayer
Today I saw a vision of you standing there.
I saw the smile on your face
I felt your tender embrace.

I felt my life had come to an end
And so! I ’ll accept you as a friend

Who Should Receive More 'Patience' Than They Get?

Solicited advice given that later offends,
Grown men and women
Makes it a bit easier to express compassion,
For their children who lack discipline.
But are into fads and questionable fashions.

When it becomes understood,
From whom they have received their lessons taught...
With a displaying to quickly disrespect.
Children raised by those limited...
Are not regarded as investments to protect.

Who clearly is the victim?
Should not be a question anyone should guess.
It is obvious who's mind has been compromised.
And who should receive more patience than they get.

'Well...
Who should receive more 'patience' than they get? '

Teachers.
Police.
And those who preach about responsibilities.
And of course...
Those who are appointed to be psychiatrists,
By the judges making decisions,
After hearing these mental cases heard...
With no ending to them in courts.

~We will take a thirty minute recess.
That should be enough time to allow me,
To spend a few moments with my own psychoanalyst.~

Dig in

There is no other way.
Once that way has been,
Removed from suspense.
And in one's mind
Begins to deepen,
With a revealing
Pointless to defend!

Dig in,
And get those benefits received.
Forget about that which was taught,
And thought.
Would be so easy.
As if just to wish.
All fantasies one would quickly get.

Dig in,
And get those benefits received.
Forget about that which was taught
By those.
Live to get rich people.
Who wanted to make it look as if,
Not a finger.
Anyone had to lift!

When something is deserved,
It comes to those who do the work.
Very few people
Get from giving hands,
Clean and clear of a sign of dirt.
People deserving are those who work.

People who struggle,
Are not unaccustomed
Of facing their own troubles.
And often are the ones,
Receiving their 'good luck'
Doubled up without much of a fuss.

There is no other way.
Once that way has been,
Removed from suspense.
And in one's mind
Begins to deepen,
With a revealing
Pointless to defend!

Dig in,
And get those benefits received.
Forget about that which was taught,
And thought
Would be so easy.
As if just to wish
All fantasies one would quickly get.

Dig in.
Be the one to make what it wished,
For you begin to happen.
Dig in!
Useless are those complaints.
No one hears,
Or pretends to listen.
Dig in!

A Revolving of Unrest

He was not asked a single thing.
He had been visually judged and assessed.
It did not matter what message he carried.
Folks were not impressed...
By his manner of speech,
Where he lived.
Or how he dressed.

Plus...
He was too accessible.
You know,
The kind seen walking or riding a bus.
People like that are quickly disrespected.
Since they are not seen on TV screens.
And some perceive them,
As insignificant and busted!
Not kings or queens that can be trusted!

But early in his youthful life,
He was extremely experienced.
Having responsibilities,
Thrown on his back.
And from foolishness he kept distant.
Observing others and how they react.

No one knew of his influence.
Or fame he did not claim.
He was there to uplift those of low self esteem.
And hopefully raise their consciousness.
With dignity and identities,
That would lift their heads from shame.
But some folks have such self hatred.

He was not asked a single thing.
He had been judged and assessed.
It did not matter what message he carried.
Folks were not impressed...
By his manner of speech,
Where he lived.
Or how he dressed.
And,
Gone unrecognized...
Was his message.
Of how to release treasures kept.

And he,
Did not participate in being a victim in distress.
Like those who seem to be in contant rehearsal.
And decided to protect his blessings best,
By enjoying his peace of mind.
And leaving behind those who prefer,
A revolving of unrest!

When She Played It Was On Her Piano

As a kid I had ambitions.
And the first of them was to do my chores,
Before my mother would come home from work.
And she would pack them on too!

'I told you to sweep this floor.'

I did!

'With what?
A sandwich?
Do it again.'

My sister, Mimmie, would look at me.
And smile!
I couldn't wait,
To give her the spray can...
To kill the roaches!

I didn't know we weren't suppose to have them,
Until I was eight years old!
And that's not a joke.
One day when my mother went to work,
I made sure Mimmie got introduced.
She's a grandmother now.
And every once in a while...
She will mention how mean I was to her.

Nobody is going to sit,
And enjoy me getting whipped!
And that has been my philosophy...
Learned very early in my life.

Those days are long gone.
And being assigned to responsibilites,
I believe every child needs.
However...
Too many parents have raised lazy and spoiled children.
Believing one day,
They will awaken and be accountable for their actions!

Today as I reflect on my childhood,
I am glad my mother did not allow me to go to sleep...
To chance an awakening to what I knew I should do.
What I had and was going to do got done,
Before I had an opportunity to give it thought.
Procrastination,
Was not a lesson my mother taught.

I've seen parents,
Do everything possible for their children.
To wonder at a later date in time,
Why their children disrespect them.
Even 'if' I looked as if I wanted to say something back,
My mother would put a 'switch' to my behind.
AND...
I would have to fine one she liked to use on me.
That was before the calling of 911.

Today...
They would call that child abuse.
When I grew up...
We got our 'butts' tore up.
Just for looking as 'if'...
We did not enjoy getting whippings!
And I aint hardly kidding.

How does that 'old' saying go?
~Spare the rod and spoil the child.~
Well...
Mimmie and I were very spoiled.
But...
A rocking of a boat,
Did not float at all...
With Ms Edna!
When she played,
It was on her piano!

Imposing Upon A Patience Given

Time is too precious,
To give to others to waste...
As they bask within their egos,
Procrastinating what moves to make...
While imposing upon a patience given.

Time is too precious,
To delay an agenda prioritized...
With eyes set to realize,
Things needing to get done.
And accompanied by motivation.

Some dismiss this discipline.
If not familiar with initiative.
Some will excuse themselves from this.
Thinking motivation is a thing that is wished.

Time is too precious,
To give to others to waste...
As they bask within their egos,
Procrastinating what moves to make...

Much like feeding a craving to quickly satisfy a whim...
With the hopes someone mentions a noticeable difference.

I Know I've Grown

I know I've grown.
Had I not...
Mother Nature would not stop me,
Suddenly with her beauty.
And I now am aware,
Of what has been always there.

I know I've grown.
I'm fascinated by a walk in the rain.
If clouds are there,
I do not complain.
And when I get wet,
I get a sense of happiness.
Without feeling 'strange' at all!

I know I've grown.
When I think of obstacles as adjustments.
And it seems as if it was just yesterday,
I struggled against this!
Finding it unbearable to face another challenge.

Today...
I know I've grown.
Since I think of those who passed their judgements,
As gifts received.
And I am able to forgive and let live?
Believing what had been done has its meaning.
Something from that has been retrieved.
And I am relieved by it.

Oh, I know I have grown.
Especially if I can come to smile,
In the face of a known tormentor.
And observing a suspicion,
From them I get!
I am equally as amazed.

And yet...
Not forgetting what was done.
But knowing I have overcomed my anger.
To allow a peace of mind I have found!
And trust me...
The power of that can stun.

And that did not arrive...
As I sat trying to justify my bitterness.
That crap had to go!
And when that was decided,
I knew inside myself...
I had grown to appreciate,
My life with more of an awareness...
Of what Mother Nature shows.
And this has been a blessing.

Good Health That IS Enjoyed

There is nothing like knowing,
A peace of mind that one has achieved...
Came to be,
In increments.
Until every last bit of it,
Was deservingly welcomed.
And with joy received.

And as time passes on,
With those believed deceiving to please...
The one who reflects about the past,
Has no regrets.
Or wonders what has happened,
To those who did their best...
To upset one's current happiness.

As one who has received this peace of mind,
Has a life abundant...
With good health that IS enjoyed.
And validated success!

Goodbye, My Brother

Goodbye, My Brother
By Renelle

On the Eighteen of August, A day I’ll never forget
A phone call from Mom got me all upset
I knew it was over and no longer a dream
When I saw Dad’s eyes, returning from the scene

I always thought you would grow old with me
To laugh and talk about us being silly
If only I could see you one more time
I would say, ' I miss you, Good-Bye '

You came to see me one Saturday night,
We laughed and talked cause we rarely fought
But You never told me you were going away
Until you left that one August Day

A son, A brother, A friend so true
Whatever he had, he'd share it with you
A thought, a deed, a kind word for a while
But always, oh always, He'd share 'His Smile'

Our hearts are breaking, our thoughts are going wild
We've lost our friend; We've lost our child
'I needed him, ' I heard Jesus say
'He's been chosen for the Master's Bouquet'

A room would brighten when you would come in
Cause the first thing we saw, would be your grin
Even when you're not in sight
You're in my thoughts day and night

Today, Jesus, as You are listening in your home above
Would you go and find Jason and give him all my love
And now my poem will come to an end, Until the day we meet again
I pray that you are now at ease. Goodbye my brother, May you Rest In Peace

Miniature Sun

Im 12 oclock,
All daylight hours,
Ill warm your bed,
Ill grow your flowers.
Like Im a miniature sun.
This ball ignited when she told me I was her only one.
Im not the same now.
Im not that plain little boy.
Im all aflame now.
Im king up here like a miniature sun.
No life comes close,
Im rising higher,
On holiday,
On ball of fire,
You made a miniature sun.
Theres no more shadows in this world she says Im her only one.
Im not the same now.
Im not that plain little boy.
Im all aflame now.
I radiate like a miniature sun.
Now everything looks right today,
A billion watts of bright today.
And Im a blazing kite today.
I think Ill float around her house,
And tell her exactly how she makes me glow.
But then the other man leaving merely doffs his hat,
And Im the last to know.
Now everything looks wrong today.
An out of tune sung song today.
Ive grown from big king kong today,
Right down to miniature...
Dont come too close,
Ill burn your arm,
Ill bleach your hair,
Dustbowl your farm,
Ill blind your eyes,
You blinded mine,
Ill spin with rage,
All summertime,
You made a miniature sun. just take a look up in the nightsky, Im not the only one.
Im not the same now.
Im not that vain little boy that I was.
Im all to blame now,
Look out below here I come!
Man crashing down like a miniature sun

Value is not constant.

I want to grow quickly.
Once grown, I loathe to.
I long for her like anything.
Once sidelined, I smudge.
The mother is no more
Dear when wife is near.
Don’t value the today,
Based on the yesterday.
Don’t value the tomorrow,
Based on the today.
