Can You Teach Me To Write?

No matter how the question is asked.
Or with words the one asking the question uses.
Whenever I am asked,
'Can you teach me to write?
Like you do? '

This is what I hear...
Not said from lips,
But this is the picture I get:

~Skip all that nonsense about being disciplined.
And please don't mention sacrifice.
To 'that' I wont even listen.
I want to see my name published all over the place.
Tell me how you have done that.
And erase all those trials and tribulations...
With heartache and pain you had to face.
I've got things to say and I know I'm great.
How do I find a publisher? ~

Sure!
I will teach you.
What have you written?

'Oh...
I haven't started yet.
What is it that I need to begin? '

You might want to carry with you a pad and pen.

'Why? '

How Do You Write Poetry

There is a question I am often asked,
of which I have no answer for at all.
The question is a simple one,
how do you write poetry?
To be honest I haven’t got a clue.
With me the words just trickle out
one after the other,
if they rhyme that is great
and if they don’t, I just scratch my head.
I cannot tell anyone how to write,
for me it’s just a natural thing.
I write almost everything,
novels, short stories, poems and songs.
I have even written a couple of plays,
but that was a long, long time ago.
However to tell anyone how to write,
I would not know where to begin.
The answer I give to the question is simple;
write whatever you like good or bad.
It’s yours and be proud of it
no matter what anyone else has to say.
The more you write the better you will get.
However, the most important thing
that you should always remember and that is
that you write, write, and write!

Change

The other day I walked accross the street
i couldnt believe what I appeared to see...
as I looked at a poor boy who came to me
I asked him his name and he didnt know
he just asked me for change.

I asked where is your mum?
he just asked me for change
I asked where is your dad?
he just asked me for change
I asked will someone come?
he just asked me for change
I asked why are you sad?

with no response to my question there was a pause...

but then once again he asked me for change
see, as i watched him dissapear with his pain
I realised that he actualy asked me...

for a change.

A Journey Down Life's Pathway

A Journey Down Life's Pathway

I'm taking a journey down life's pathway
into a world unknown to me.
Unsure of the directions I must take
but one thing I know for sure
I'm to walk by faith and not by sight
as the world is known to do.
I decided to walk down this life's pathway
when I answered the Father's call from above.

Everything going so smooth,
I asked my Father to draw me close
and make me more like His Son.
Then all of a sudden my world turned upside down
test and trials that came my way
I didn't understand why?
There is no way possible to walk this life's pathway
that I have chosen for Him.

So discouraged and ready to give up
from all the hurt and pain in my life
I know I have failed
it seems nothing turns out right.
With tears in my eyes and with all of my heart
I cried out, “Father!
This is not what I wanted
nor is this what I asked for.
Can't you see there is too much pain? '

Then I hear His soft gentle voice telling me
'Through the test and trials
that I have sent into your life
is to teach you to lean and trust in Me.
Through test and trials I draw you close
and make you more like MY Son.'
Now I'm beginning to understand why.

Still with all the test and trials
I stumble, fall and at times
I just want to give up.
I still wonder why it has to be so hard
why can't I just run and hide?
There is too much pain and heartache
to continue on a journey down this life's pathway
no matter how hard I try.

Again I hear that soft and gentle voice
of my Father saying to me,
'Don't be discourage and don't give up
for I have brought you this far.
I have never left you, my child,
and I will never leave you alone.
I will go with you each step
and every mile of the way
until your work is done.'

With His words so gentle
and softly spoken
now encourages me to stand tall.
Through test and trials still come my way
I know that I'm not alone
my strength is renewed each and every day.
So no matter what may come my way
I will draw close to my Father
and become more like His Son.
Then when my journey down this life's pathway
finally comes to an end
I know without a doubt
I will stand with Them
through out all eternity.

If You've Got Issues You've Got Issues

Aren't you curious and find it strange,
That those who ridicule and complain...
About what others do and/or don't do,
Seem to have no activities at all...
Other than to come together day after day,
To do the same things?
With nothing to show for their efforts wasted?

'No.
I haven't noticed it.
I do my best to keep busy.
I don't take time watching what others do.
And where are you to observe this...
On a regular and daily basis.'

I'm..uh...I...well...
I asked you the question.

'I understood your question perfectly.
But what I don't understand...
Is 'how' and 'what' THEY do,
Has any connection to you? '

I...uh...well...I'm...
I've got to go.
It is difficult to have a conversation,
With somebody like you...
Who can't answer a simple question.
It's not complicated.
If you've got issues you've got issues.
Avoiding what they are wont solve them.
Especially to judge others.

'I agree with you.
And IF you have to go,
You have to go.
There was a time I'd wake up in the morning,
Confused and complex myself.
Until I self examined.'

Yeah.
I can see that.
Well I hope things work out for you.
Try not to be so negative.

'And...
Try to keep what we discussed,
To yourself, okay? '

No problem.
None at all.
I wont tell a soul.

In a Child's Voice

Listen to the voice of a child
You will hear the wisdom of the ages
A book ready to be written
Filled with many unwritten pages
Learn from their innocence
Honestly brutal but real
For they haven’t yet been tarnished
telling you exactly how they feel
So simple yet so wise they speak
feelings never compromised
For whatever words they speak to you
You should not be surprised
Listen to the voice of a child
You can always feel their pain
They will always bring you sunshine
When the world is filled with rain
Their laughter is the music
That comes straight from the heart
So learn to sing their praises
Rejoice in every part
Never let that child within
Escape or get away
For every child is a part of us
Each and every day
Listen to the voice of a child
Hear each and every word
For every question asked of you
From sublime to the absurd
There are many lessons to be taught
And dreams to be realized
We learn from each other every day
Yet we always act surprised
If we listen a little bit closer
You will hear that inner child
A lifetime of knowledge
Mostly tame but occasionally wild
In a world that’s constantly changing
You can always find a choice
In the wisdom of our childhood
You will truly find your voice

Skip Your Trip

Skip your trip.
And admit to it.
Just seal your lips.
And listen a bit.
Skip your trip...
And listen to what's been said.

It's okay to make mistakes.
People have done that everyday.
But it's not okay...
Just to turn and walk away.

It's okay to make mistakes.
People have done that everyday.
But it's not okay...
To believe your way is 'the' way.

Skip your trip.
And admit to it.
Just seal your lips.
And listen a bit.
Skip your trip...
And listen to what's been said.

No one has to disrespect,
An opinion that they don't accept.
Because it's something they wish not to hear.

No one has to get upset.
To later find they have regrets.
When all they had to do is comprehend.
And everybody says that this is wished.
But patience slips from them real quick.
And brooding attitudes are left to share.
Everywhere the frowns are there.

Skip your trip.
And admit to it.
Just seal your lips.
And listen a bit.
Skip your trip...
And listen to what's been said.

Skip your trip.
And listen up a bit!
Skip your trip.
And listen up a bit!
Skip your trip.
And use your head instead!

Oh...
Skip your trip.
And listen up a bit!
Skip your trip.
And listen up a bit!
Skip your trip.
And use your head instead!

Enjoy Your Day

You approached me to ask a question.
And taking my time to listen...
With a response I had hoped,
You would comprehend.
Not only did you not do that.
But you edited my answer...
To 'insert' what you thought,
For you did not offend.

Now you accuse me of not being direct.
You say my answer,
For you is not effective.
You inject words connected to my response,
To something you rather accept.
And I hear your attempts,
To try to comvince others...
What it is I really meant!

'Why are you leaving? '

You asked me a question.
I answered it.
Now I take my exit.
To that do you also object?

'But I think your response,
Should be open to debate.'

First of all...
You approached me.
And the time given...
I did not hesitate.
You wanted to hear something you formulate.
Something in your mind you hoped I would find.
And I'm not wasting any more of my time...
To play a game of ping pong,
With someone who has yet to learn...
The reason or the effective use of the paddle.

And besides,
If I did decide to play...
It would be with someone,
Who had something meaningful to say.
And all you wish to do is to occupy space,
In the hopes someone will come forward...
To assist you in the use of it!

'Don't you think your point of view is a bit arrogant? '

That depends!
Is that your second question?
Or should I be seeking your permission to leave?
And neither question,
Do I seek from you an answer.
But I will give you the benefit...
To decide for yourself,
Which one eventually applies!
How is that?
Enjoy your day.

'You will not be asked back here again! '

Was I not already here when you entered?
Again...
Enjoy your day!

Life’s Questions

When I was the tender age of five,
I asked my mother a question about life.
“I know I hear your voice, and I hear mine,
Were does my voice come from, it seems so sublime.”
Then of course my mom did retort,
She is not the comforting kind of sort.
“If you asked anyone they would think you were crazy”
So I decided hey, I know I will find out one day I’m not lazy.
I did talk to many who are a sage,
Even read the written page.
Of all the questions I have to ask,
How did we get here, I know it’s not by chance.
Now I read “Conversations with God”
It helped me confirm and figure it all out.

We Are Who We Are

Do you ever ask yourself why?
Why do I say the things I do?
Why is it I have these feelings?
Why can't I find the reason to my life?

Do you ever wonder if?
If life changed.
If you died.
If you were to go insane.

Do you go around asking yourself what?
What am i doing?
What am I supossed to do?
What day is it?

Do you ever look in the mirrior and asked yourself things?
Do I look fat?
Do I look acceptible for work?
Do I have enough time for one more thing?

If we are so independant and confident as a human race,
why do we ask why?
Why do you always find ifs in things?
What do we always question things for?
Why do we question who we are?

Dont Mention My Heartache

Written by c. wilmore & c. jackson
Hoo, hoo, mm
Dont mention my heartache
I just hide it away
Dont want to remember what brings me pain
Who does it hurt if Im masquerading
When anybody asks me you know Ill say, yeah
That I love him, he loves me
Were so good together
Ill pretend hes home again
Though hes gone forever
Dont mention my heartache
cause I dont want nobody to know, no, no, no
Just keep it a secret that he let me go
cause I dont want nobody to know
That I go through the motions (motions)
Put a smile on my face, yes, I do
I heard that the weather is changing today, yeah, yeah
And I dont talk about my business to noone
If anybody asks me you know what Ill say, yeah
That I love him; he loves me, were so good together
Ill pretend hes home again, though hes gone forever
Dont mention my heartache
cause I dont want nobody to know, oh, no
Just keep it a secret that he let me go
cause I dont want nobody to know--
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hoo--
That the heartache that Im feeling makes me lonely, oh---
Dont mention my heartache
cause I dont want nobody to know, no, no
Just keep it a secret that he let me go
And I dont want nobody to know, nobody
(cant talk about it)
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
(dont want to think about it)
And I dont want nobody, I got a heartache
I dont want nobody, I dont want nobody, I got a heartache
(dont mention my heartache)
I got a heartache, he let me go
Its a sweet face, yes, it is
Dont want nobody, cant stand nobody
(dont mention my heartache)
And I got to keep it a secret
(Im minding my business)
cause my man, cause my man
Aint my man no more
Keeping it a secret (dont mention my heartache)
Keeping it a secret, oh, all to myself, he let me go...

In the spirit of Rumi - 23

I asked My Beloved

How may I know the secret
of being a perfect Sufi,
insan al-kamil,
a perfect Friend of God?

My Beloved said

You will never in your life be sure;
and that is just how it should be;
that way, you will be safe in Me;

instead, seek always where My secret might be found:
as you walk, look closely at all of nature;
every flower, every tree, every lake, every cloud,
every bird, every animal;
look closely at them, to see
if they hold My secret;

as you walk down the street,
look into the eyes of each human being
to see if they know My secret in their heart;

listen to every sound and every word
in case My secret hides within them;

or in the scent of roses, or in the taste of food;

go to sleep with this question on your lips,
wake with this question in your mind;

and though you will never find the answer,
one day the question shall cease to be a question
and become the song which you have always known.

Do I Have Something To Eat?

you ask me if i have eaten
it did not come to your mind if i have something to eat

but i will not correct your question
it is the most common question somehow
that is being asked by the majority of
those who do not really go deeper
into the matter,

ask me now, how about the hungry children of Africa?
the children of the rebels in Syria?

where food is prohibited, where plants do not grow because of the war,
please ask me that question.

Gertrude Stein chews the fat

We asked ourself a question
since no-one else asked it
it was are poems about the poet
or about poetry
or about neither
or about both
and now we had asked this question
we had to answer it and we said
if poetry raises all these questions
the answer must be simply
yes

Who's first to bat?

‘What is it like to be a bat? ’
Sprigge asked the question first;
then Thomas Nagel took it up
with philosophic thirst;

What is it like to be a bat?
Who knows? Bats aren't so chatty…
but if you asked a bat, I guess
he’d say, ‘Well.. kinda batty..’

I Told Myself

I told myself
You do love me
Is it really true?
She asked me

I told myself
You care for me
Are you really sure?
She asked me

I told myself
You do miss me
As often as you?
She asked me

I told myself
You need me too
Are you guessing?
She asked me

I told myself
You never tell me
Why on Earth?
She asked me

I told myself
You hide a lot…
Is that friendship?
She asked me

I told myself
You think too much
Does he not feel?
She asked me

Tell me, my love
What shall I say?
To all those queries
That she asked me...

How should I answer?
What should I ponder?
Tell me the truth
For she still asks me...

You For Me
And Me For You
Is it the Future?
One last Question
She did ask me.

I don’t have the answers
Yet she keeps asking me…
May be, she knows,
One day, one moment
You’ll let her know
How you feel for me...

Who Am I?

How many times have we asked ourselves,
who am I?
The question haunts us
as we journey down life’s road.
Am I what I want to be,
or is my life just one long lie?
Do I try to be someone that I am not?
Do I do things that I clearly cannot?
We question ourselves constantly
in a quest to find out who we really are.
We can always tell what we are not,
but who we are
only others can really tell.

After All

This is the end
together we walk away
time finally giving us the answer
to a question so many times asked
thought it would be the other way around
guess their was no need to pretend

After all of the heartache
that filled inside of me
with so much of this frustration
after all of the broken promises
we did'nt have to make
after all those sweet kisses
I tasted on your lips
did'nt think it would be my heart
you would break
that would fade away forever

But now only time can mend
something that seemed so right
trying to erase those memories
I have to forget
as we walk our own path
like fools on sinking ships

Illusions In G Major

On the seven seas there was aphantom ship acoming,
Shinin in the dead of night,
I heard the crew a hummin
Tunes that sounded like the rolling stones and leonard cohen.
But they didnt know the words,
So I assumed that they was foreign.
Chorus
But I heard them just the same doctor let me teach em,
I just wanna please em, doctor let me teach em.
I looked up in the sky there was a phantom plane a comin,
Shinin in the dead of night,
I heard the pilot saying,
Poems that were written by john keats and robert browning.
But he didnt know the words so,
I suppose that it was nothing.
Chorus
But I heard them just the same doctor let me teach em,
I just wanna please em, doctor let me teach em.
Doctor please believe me, I know you wont decieve me,
But do these things Im seein, have any hidden meaning.
Its all good entertainment and it doesnt cost a penny.
So please doc, let me teach em, if I could only reach em.

Everything together

Everything together

There is answer for every question
One needs to introspect and clearly mention
What he or she wants with desires
Then question comes to reject or admire

You were not sincere in your attempt or try
You were ignorant and repeatedly asked why
It irritated me a lot and I decided to leave
There after took and heavy breathe and sigh

You love was one sided and full of infatuation
Love can’t build on that base or relation
It is give and take, and demands full of sacrifice
Life is not just trade but full of commitment and promises

Heart is broken or felt hurt when it has some feelings
One sided attachment can’t be called any kind of willingness
It is misjudged attraction and demands severance
That relation must end without question at once

Love can’t be termed as genuine or enough
One can’t be indifferent or can keep it dry or rough
It is just bond that takes life course further
Swim or sink, joy or pain is shared equally and together
