5 Little Cherubs in a Sideshow Menagerie
Five little Cherubs in a sideshow menagerie
All prime in Gingham dresses with pock dots in colored blouses
Fetching public reminiscences with fondness in their cages
Don't they look quaint locked in frowns to passing strangers?
Five little cherubs in a sideshow Menagerie
Boxed up in a manor cordoned off with one way mirrors
So when they play each day their taught to see outsiders
As collecting acts of tribute for spectator pedophiles
Five little cherubs in a sideshow Menagerie
You can purchase happiness worth a $1.25
A quarter in each Matryoshka without a slice of humble pie
Softly bleed the little roses with their patent leather smiles
Five little cherubs in a Sideshow Menagerie
Coming from North Bay in the house of cards off black Tuesday
They were prized butterflies and neonatal marked commodities
They never had parents but they had industrialist doctors
Five Little Cherubs in a Sideshow menagerie
Bigger than Niagara and the might of a thousand islands
Meeting Clark Gable and young Elizabeth from old England
So why are they sad when their exploited by millions?
Sweet darling lambs
Merchandised for our eyes
To exhibit our joys
In holocaust values
Put Annette in green
and Emilie for pink
Color code for reference
From the pamphlets at the booth
Don't you think they look cute?
These little girls inside the zoo
But I think Marie is tired
Because she's forgotten in her room
Scared that is always blue
Five little cherubs in a sideshows menagerie

Side Show
I ain't got no fun today
It's just like yesterday, oh yeah
Only different shades of grey
I'm bored right out of my skull
I'd have to get high just to be dull
I'm institutional
My TV screen spins around and around
And around and around
I need a sideshow
Some kinda creepshow
They ran the circus out of town
But the ring master said "Boy, you can stick around"
I pay to see all the freaks
Some finger lickin' chicken-eating geek
Hey, that sounds cool to me
I just want to step inside
I want a scary ride, oh yeah
See Jeckyll turn to Hyde
I fell my head spinnin' round and around
And around and around
I need a sideshow, oh yeah
Some kinda creepshow, oh yeah
I just want someplace to go, oh yeah
I tried to be the circus clown
But even my monkey wouldn't hang around
And the hunchback midget and his
twisted friends
Offer me a world of thrills that never end
I need a sideshow
Some kind of freaky show, oh yeah
Down where the neon glows
Just like a psychedelic video
Or a 24 hour party, go go go
Not a gozio, no
I need a sideshow
My private sideshow

Choices
I was walking all alone
Through a sideshow
With passion and pain
On each side
Something inside me was calling
For a chance to stay alive
At the time I dint know
What was calling
As my head was buried in grief
Today I heard what was crying
My freedom calling me
And we all make our choices
Like a blind man feels his way
And the choice
Ive made is simple
Passion over pain
When I got to
The end of the sideshow
And looked back
To where I had been
My eyes filled with
Teardrops of loneliness
For the ones
Who will never be fee
I thought of
The children in the sideshow
As they wandered
Around so confused
Some day
Theyll make their decision
But which one will they choose
And well all make our choices
Like a blind man feels his way
And the choice
Ive made is simple
Passion over pain
And well all make our choices
Like a blind man feels his way
And the choice
Ive made is simple
Passion, passion over pain
And well all make our choices
Like a blind man feels his way
And the choice
Ive made is a simple one
Passion over pain

The Pure and Lascivious Period
She wore faux fox furs
dyed blue,
she said it matched her purple hair.
and ate nothing but Ramen noodles with miracle whip.
She was an angel.
When I was sick in bed with cancer
she leaned over me placing cool rags on my burning skull.
Many times I would wake from a fever dream
to find her sitting on the floor
next to my bed
reading one of my books...
waiting to see if and when I would wake up.
On my good days we would go 'Yard shopping'
3: 00 AM we would sneak through the neighborhood,
looking for lawn ornaments,
usually cherubs embracing one another,
that sort of thing.
We would sneak them home and 'augment' them.
using playdoh.
Make a tongue snaking out of a cherubs mouth
into the others and through its cheek.
Where the cherubs embraced we painted red scratch marks
as if these symbols of innocent love were lust crazed demon children.
She would giggle as each new little atrocity occured to us.
I know it's cliche
but her giggles really did sound like a stream,
gurgling.
It wasn't a pretty laugh,
but her face was beautiful when she did.
On our late night jaunts she was always on the look out for aluminum ladders.
to sell
for her heroin.
Which she would always share.
Now that I think back on it there is symmetry to it.
Our turning cherubic angels in to lewd, lascivious beings,
Her being my lewd lascivious angel,
in reality she was pure..
beatific.

The show is not the show,
The show is not the show,
But they that go.
Menagerie to me
My neighbor be.
Fair play--
Both went to see.

Tinted Images
I remember tinted images
yellow and stained
in old wooden frames.
The glass was scratched and wavy.
They sat on a table next to a lamp
painted with naked cherubs.
The couch and chairs were covered in plastic.
I never asked why.
One day my father spilled his beer
no one panicked and I understood.
There were stories after dinner
with coffee and cigarettes.
I was young and don't recall them now.
We don't tell stories after dinner;
no one smokes anymore.
I have pictures in polished frames.
My couch is stained and the chairs are worn.
On a table next to the lamp
the one with naked cherubs
are the tinted images in the old wooden frames.
When the lamp is lit
I can see myself in the glass.

Two Birthday Card Greetings!
1)
Some birthday cards are humurous
With jokes that make you smile,
Others are cute, with kittens on,
Or cherubs that beguile.
Some have flowery greetings,
Some, sentimental verse.
Some poke fun at someone's age,
While others - well, they're worse!
But my favourite kind of card is one
That comes straight from the heart.
No wit or soppy message. Just -
Happy birthday, you old f...! ! ! !
2)
Some cards are huge and colourful,
With greetings bright and cheerful.
Others are sweet or touching
And can make you feel quite tearful.
There are funny cards with jokes in,
Enough to make you titter.
Home-made cards, pricey cards
And ones all covered in glitter.
Some can be rather age-ist,
Making fun out of getting old.
While others contain messages
That are worth much more than gold.
Some cards are sentimental,
The rhymes inside quite corny,
But not this one - it simply reads:
Happy Birthday, love from Dawnie

Cherubs
the children that the lord takes away
are the cherubs that you see in stores every day.
although it creates an empty feeling in our hearts
and we will question as to' why'.
these children have a job to do just like you and i.
the purpose or reason is beyond our control or understanding.
cherubs are child angels which god chose for a task.
their life here on earth is short and unfortunatly will not last.
although our hearts will be empty and we will be sad
they're chosen to help others, on that you should be glad.
in gods infinate wisdom he has a plan for this child.
but the lord let the child stay with you
even if it was a short while, just so that you could
feel the love that a child could bring
and to soften up your heart to many other things.
the lord wants you to picture your beautiful child
as a cherub with beautiful wings and a halo above his head
this is the reason that he was laid to rest.
at times he may take a child who is healthy
to help a child who is sick.
to lead the way to the heavenly throne
just so he won't be alone.
they are also put here on earth to protect others giving birth.

The Freak
Step inside the tent ladies and gentlemen to see
The freak they call jacko the dog face man
He walks like a man and talks like a man
But was born with the face of a dog
An actual freak of nature
Bright lights
Blind me
And I am whizzing by the people
Pushing rushing to the music
And my eyes are running
And my legs are aching
And there are people winning
And the carnivals spinning
Merry go round
Go round
And they make me dizzy
People shouting as they shot and win
And my head is ringing
My ears are flitting
And my hair is thinning
And the carnivals spinning
After the people have gone
I walk along down sideshow ally
And from the tent I hear some crying
The sound of someone in pain
And written brightly on the canvas and woodwork
So that everybody could see
Was the question they pose to the public
When is a man not a man
When hes a freak in the sideshow
But we all got to cry
Yes, we all got to cry
And we all got to cry
Bright lights blind me
And I am questioned by the people
Pushing rushing
To the organ grinders music
And my eyes are running
And my legs are achy
And their are people crying
And the carnivals dying

In Slumber
When angels sleep in hollows,
or up upon the clouds,
violins or trumpets sounds,
play as cherubs fly on by,
sleep softly and in slumber,
then so will I,
dream of days of summer,
with the warmth of the sun,
as angels on clouds pass on by.

(The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether
Just what you need to make you feel better
Just what you need to make you feel
Just what you need to make you feel better
Just what you need to make you feel
At the far end of your tether
And your thoughts won't fit together
So you sleep light or whatever
And the night goes on forever
Then your mind change like the weather
You're in need of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether
Just what you need to make you feel better
Just what you need to make you feel
Just what you need to make you feel better
Just what you need to make you feel
Even clouds seem bright and breezy
'Cause the livin' is free and easy
See the rat race of a new way
Like you're wakin' up to a new day
It's a wise thing if you're clever
Take a lead from Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether
Find the end of a rainbow
Fly wherever the winds blow
Laugh at life like a sideshow
Just what you need to make you feel better
Satisfaction altogether
Guaranteed by Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether
Find the end of a rainbow
Fly wherever the winds blow
Laugh at life like a sideshow
Just what you need to make you feel better
Don't stop bringin' the girls 'round
Don't start havin' a showdown
Keep on handin' the jug 'round
All that you need is wine and good company

Upon The Harbouring of Sickness In Death...
With endearment, you gently lift
the dutch door top of the pinewood,
but, only because within it sleeps
the one who understood you, and-
the chaos between your hemispheres,
the delphian orbs and cherubs,
ossified...within your abstract wiring,
and loved you through it all;
a love that bore no substitute.
who will care for me now, you ask;
NO-ONE! - says a voice from years gone,
as you stare at the vericose veins
an old cracked-ceilings ruse;
you affix a sybilline stare
of lament that bears no mercy
from your myriad of strange behavior
harbouring within your brain,
pricking the spines live nerve-endings
like a sterile darning needle;
[Remembering when you were a child]
that your mum laid down gently
upon the kitchen stovetop flame,
'fore she'd take the metal tongs,
pinched the needle at its head,
said, 'mummy could never hurt you'
now I need thatfrowning finger
and pull that splinter out
Oh! Mummy, it burns! It burns!
So hot... flame stinging hot, it was
thwarting like a matchstick tip
one just freshly struck....
so effectingly that your tongue
sensed the sage-smoked sulfur
with Mummy's every stroke
'til her job completed with a hug
and kiss, atop a slice of key lime pie.
who will know where the needles are, you ask;
NO-ONE! - says the Modigliani-
hanging on the pale green wall,
the stunning woman reminds you
of her, except for the cold white eyes.
She's with the sleeping now
where all good mothers go,
and thats how love in Death must be
beyond the pine, with the cherubs...
but only when harbouring sickness.

Pieces Of Ice
(m. jordan/j. capek)
Walking blind across this silver room
Looking through a smoke menagerie
Looking at your face inside of me
In the darkness youre tunisia
Nights are long entropic
I cant seem to cope
Its cold when I look in your eyes
Pieces of ice
Pieces of ice
Pieces of ice
Pieces of ice
Where the zebra lightning strikes the room
Foreign words are strutted through the gloom
Women swooping down like birds of prey
Never close but never far away
Night are long entropic
I cant seem to cope
Its cold when I look in your eyes
Pieces of ice
Pieces of ice
Pieces of ice
Pieces of ice

Of Bronze—and Blaze
290
Of Bronze—and Blaze—
The North—Tonight—
So adequate—it forms—
So preconcerted with itself—
So distant—to alarms—
And Unconcern so sovereign
To Universe, or me—
Infects my simple spirit
With Taints of Majesty—
Till I take vaster attitudes—
And strut upon my stem—
Disdaining Men, and Oxygen,
For Arrogance of them—
My Splendors, are Menagerie—
But their Completeless Show
Will entertain the Centuries
When I, am long ago,
An Island in dishonored Grass—
Whom none but Beetles—know.

This Section is a Christmas Tree
This section is a Christmas tree:
Loaded with pretty toys for you.
Behold the blocks, the Noah's arks,
The popguns painted red and blue.
No solemn pine-cone forest-fruit,
But silver horns and candy sacks
And many little tinsel hearts
And cherubs pink, and jumping-jacks.
For every child a gift, I hope.
The doll upon the topmost bough
Is mine. But all the rest are yours.
And I will light the candles now.
