Her Velvet Walk

Words burn like fires from Troy
Pearls from the dying myths
Some fear what then have become
Rodin with hands that touch Michelangelo
She draws for the left bank
Seines flows like Chopin’s piano
Picasso walks under halos
Love is the only moral

Freedom, equality, fraternity
Notre Dam like Emperor Napoleon
Tyranny in the soul is hard to control
The system is congenital
She knows what men like

Draperies as cruel as a whip
Vain damsel of the Mediterranean
Roman grapes like violet slaves
Balance like a Corinthian mathematician
Architects of Ian Rand
Great men ruling the plebeians
We are the children of the barbarians
Prodigy of peacock feathers
Identity of the young corpse
The slave with slaves
The poor working against the poor
Under the sandals of Caesar

Cathedrals of gold with windows of beryl
Everyone in styles of the dead
Some are ghosts not quite gone
Symbols of the phallus gods
Lights brighter than heaven
Hour of glitter as old as Persia
She walks darker than a vampire
I have fallen in love with a spell
A myth that sailed the silver sea
She tells me of silk stockings
She walks like the treasures of Venus
She talks of paintings of Florence
Her Italian heels as elegant as a Mistress

Epochs and ruins in her velvet walk

No Better way

He used to sandpaper the tips

of his fingers until they

caught no silk.

He brushed his teeth,

then he combed his hair,

parted it on the wrong side.

Forty-five years

and three hundred and sixty days

he still has no better ways

to say, 'I love you'.

He goes for walks around the pasture

by the pond and up the bank

and past the dead pine tree

struck by lightning

whose branches have fallen off

and lay around the ground

He walks by without a sound

wishing he could walk on and on.

His soul walks by without a sound.

Fallen Saved

Waning repentance bought by purple merchants
Moons that grovel before your painted eyes
The sea still innocent
You are my sins my love
You are the unmasked whip
Sometimes I hate that I am so weak
I want to have sex with you every minute
When I am honest you are a vampire
Is my soul lost?
No! I am the fallen lover

Vultures are waiting
My bed is a pedicure
Searching for a heaven of flesh
Do you see the fire burning love
Making you into a brothel
Part of every woman is a stripper
Your weakness loves my desire
You feed the wolves
Your wet silk stockings
Your high heel marks
Yes, you lounge in heels
She walks in the castle of vampires

My altar is dark with black silk
Garter belts light candles
I have my ideals
I believe in God
Romance to me is silver stilettos
It is too late for change
You are tempest
You are my weakness
Help me go to heaven
Corsets and church
Wet dripping salvation
My mate is a Goddess of moonlight
I am waiting for the night
I will be faithful my princess of silk
The fallen saved with a prayer book

Ceiling

he walks down
and i walk up

he walks down
and i walk up

he walks down
and i walk up

we look into each
other and that's
just what we do
everyday

poor me
when am i induced
to be another
racist

he walks down
and i walk up

he walks down
and i walk u

that's what we do
day after day

letting our eyes
do the poor talking

whose fault?
whose fault?

i keep asking
the ceiling
in the nights
why why why?
i ask the ceiling

the answer comes
back in an overhanging
overbearing wordliness

the ceiling

Love and Fire

Fellini’s Rome joins my decadence
Earth chills my fallen bones
You are hot Venus in your radiance
We merge like two seas of fire
Religion restrains the open mind
Existential fire revels in desire

Can we find the narrow road?
Can we be this lustful and in love?
Stumbling toward our eternal home

Hunger like a lion lost in the city
Your silk dress shines like an eagle
Weak with orgasms you control me
Can I still balance this with my faith?
Your six-inch high heels like idols
Love is so powerful and strange

Your garter belts make me dream
Maybe love for a woman is fire
She walks into the church with me

When She Walks By

Eyes so dark
Heart so pure
I could never love another
The way I love her
Gleam in her eyes
Like a candles flame
I love when I hear her
Call out my name
When she walks by
Birds stop their flight
The dead come to life
And the blind regain their sight
I could never love another
The way I love her
Eyes so dark
Heart so pure

Skin so soft
Soul on fire
She fills me with
Complete desire
The way she moves
The way she looks
One glance at her
Was all it took
When she walks by
People stare
At her radiant face
And her ebony hair
She fills me with
Complete desire
Skin so soft
Soul on fire

Perfect body
A scholar's mind
Michelangelo would envy
Such a find
Beautiful smile
Always sincere
Whoever's around
Wants her near
When she walks by
Angels weep
Gods hide their faces
And lovers leap
Michelangelo would envy
Such a find
Perfect body
A scholar's mind

A new freedom

Everybody wants to fly as a bird,
Nobody wants to remain in chains,
Because everyone has a new freedom to live merrily,
But some cruel take our freedom away
And make us their slave.

Freedom is a god gifted gift
Which nobody can destroy from this earth.
Freedom is not made for rich
But for innocent poor dwelling in slums.
Freedom means peace and love
Not fear around us.
Freedom is what brings a nice smile
On everybody’s face.

Freedom knows no boundary
Of happiness and sprinkles its grace
On everyone wonderfully.
Freedom knocks at every door
And kisses everyone in the early morning
As a nightingale sings its lovely hymn for each person.
Freedom walks from door to door
To visit so that no one
Can be deprived of it.

Happy Endings

Time does tell
That even if they say so
Shed be the one that would know
That I did do what Ive done
And i, I wouldnt call it cheating
Id just say I was leading her on
Why walk while I run a-way
You- you ask me what went wrong
Me- Ill write you this last song
Please- just tell me one way we can win
One- more thing before I go
Two- the one who loves me so
Three- dont make me count to three again
Happy endings
Just what did you do, if youre a dream then come true
Stop pretending
That what you mean isnt what you say
Hopeful dreaming,
Of times before the pain, wishing it was still the same
Loving, leaving
Round and round and round we go again
Walks a-lone, have often lead to thinking
My love for you is sinking to what seems an all time low
Or high, the limits never ending,
And dont you know Im sending
Theres no venture I wont go
For you
She walks away, she talks away
She walks away
She walks away, she talks away
Away, away...

In The Garden

(words & music by c.a. miles)
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The song of God discloses
And he walks with me
And he talks with me
And he tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
He speaks and the sound of his voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that he gave to me
Within my heart is ringing
And he walks with me
And he talks with me
And he tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

Neighborhoods

Sage eyes in the rainbow of pain
Desire is a flame lit in her words
Deep words like ‘your faux pas
Her rules are a theater of Paris
Where are we going in the blowing rain?
Washington Square in 1962
I am born like an old Martin guitar
The Kennedy’s gave us hope
Black and white photography
Her smile has no guile
Her eyes see all my splits

No Broadway play can heal me
We walk like hungry centuries
Fragments of the medieval castles
Traditions broken by a postmodern mess
Rings of opal bells ringing
I guess love is pretending all is well

She is in love with old neighborhoods
I am just an old street with lampposts
Mantles of emerald windows
Chimes like a Vermont farm
Long Island shops filled with potpourri
The coast of Maine
Bookstores
Museums

Knives of gossamer impostors
Call to the working chains
Romance that needs daily bread
She walks other neighborhoods
Another smile
Another kiss
Old town and new town
I am abstract; he is real
He gives her roses
The moon is magic

Shut your eyes and sail
I am an art store
She walks as elegant as silk
She turns on the open sign
Glass of red wine some melodic jazz
She tells me beware of what you wish for
I am knocking at the door
Day at a time
Love is a day at a time
A short sexy dress
Risqué as a pedicure
She walks into my neighborhood

Love Walks In

Touch some holy water
Confess your sins again
Cross yourself with imperfection
Break the rules - amend
Pick up the pieces
Hold them tight
now you feel redeemed
Try to take a step outside
Do what you disbelieve
[Chorus:]
Love walks in
Looking so devout
Love walks in
You walk out
Build a shrine, break down a wall
Run till you can't stop
On your knees inside your head
Your sanctuary now
[Chorus]
I don't know what you want
I don't know what you need
Tell me what you want
Speak to me, speak to me
Tangled up in disillusion
Swept up inthe flood
Drowning in uncertainty
No message from above
[Chorus]
Love walks in
Your world stats to fall apart
Love walks in
You walk out

Another Time

Prickly paths of summers soul
Ignoble breath that readily flows
Your ink dries and people cry
Purged of change we debate
What did you mean when you said that?
What do we mean when we say this?
They pick you apart

Mystery like the sea in spring
Autumn orchards
Lady slippers on an island of moss
Your risque eternity my love

Pique Italian Rivera
You grow in your very own meadow
Paths of solitude
Bells of the Seines
Legends bright like sapphires
Walks along the river of beauty
Irish smiles filled with wit
Cottage windows quaint and old
Cemeteries with gusts of wind
Poetry and coffee
Antique chairs that get used
Third person stories
Novels posthumously published
Vivid and vague
I wonder about your kisses
Portraits and ghosts
Your words greet my world

Another time lives on

Walking Man

Moving in silent desperation
Keeping an eye on the holy land
A hypothetical destination
Say, who is this waliking man?
Well, the leaves have come to turning
And the goose has gone to fly
And bridges are for buning
So dont you let that yearning
Pass you by
Walking man, walking man walks
Well, any other man stops and talks
But the walking man walks
Well the frost is on the pumpkin
And the hay is in the barn
An pappys come to rambling on
Stumbling around drunk
Down on the farm
And the walking man walks
Doesnt know nothing at all
Any other man stops and talks
But the walking man walks on by
Walk on by
Most everybodys got seed to sow
It aint always easy for a weed to grow, oh no
So he dont hoe the row for no one
Oh for sure hes always missing
And something is never quite right
Ah, but who would want to listen to you
Kissing his existence good night
Walking man walk on by my door
Well, any other man stops and talks
But not the walking man
Hes the walking man
Born to walk
Walk on walking man
Well now, would he have wings to fly
Would he be free
Golden wings against the sky
Walking man, walk on by
So long, walking man, so long

Soul Less

And he walks soul less.
the past dark and endless.
skeltons we all have.
his always whispering.
And he walks soul less.

Grass green, but he cant smell it.
sky blue but he cant see it
life wonderess. but he has forgotten.
And he walks soul less.

Towards a destiny he cant avoid
a destiny he fears he created.
a destiny paid for in spades.
And he walks soul less

Scared, broken, unloved, shamed.
the ground all his eyes now ponder.
a man in body only.
And he walks soul less

She Walks With Me

Michael w. smith/ beth nielsen chapman
Whitney, I hope you know how much I love you. this songs for you. dad.
From the first breath of her life
She flew straight into my arms
I used to catch her from the swings
When she was five...
And now she dances on the wind
In a world as hard as stone
Shes so anxious to begin
And ready to fly...
And she walks with me
And she talks with me
And I hold her hand in mine
I know shell find her way
Like the light of day
Cause its love that makes her strong
Though I cannot stop the rain
And I cannot turn the tide
And I am sure there will be things
That break her heart
I can only let her know
I am always on her side
And even as I let her go
Ill never be far
And she walks with me
And she talks with me
In her eyes I see her truth
Born of her fire and grace
As she finds her place
Cause its love that makes her strong
And she walks with me
And she talks with me
In my eyes shell see my prayer
As she turns each page
Through this tender age
It is love that makes her strong
Its her love that makes her strong

Autumnal

THE Autumn leaves are dying quietly,
Scarlet and orange, underfoot they lie;
They had their youth and prime
And now's the dying time;
Alas, alas, the young, the beloved, must die!

They are dying like the leaves of Autumn fast,
Scattered and broken, blown on every blast:
The darling young, the brave,
Love had no power to save.
Poor Love-lies-bleeding, Love's in ruins, downcast.

Alas, alas, the Autumn leaves are flying!
They had their Summer and 'tis time for dying.
But these had barely Spring.
Love trails a broken wing,
Walks through deserted woods, moaning and sighing.

A Little Missunderstood

(Michael D'Abo)
[produced by Michael D'Abo, A side of Immediate 060, 1968]
There has to be a reason
Why everyone speaks bad of my baby
I think I know that reason
And it is oh so sad
They say she walks the streets
But that's not strictly true
She's got a lot to eat
And she's not as rich as you
She's just a little miss understood
That's all
Everyone needs somebody
To get them through that time
You may not love that someone
As much as I love mine
But if she walks the streets
Does that condemn her soul
Or is heaven so complete
it rejects a heart of gold
She's just a little miss understood
a little miss understood
A little miss understood
That's all
And if she walks the streets
Does that condemn her soul
Or is heaven so complete
it rejects a heart of gold
She's just a little miss understood
a little miss understood
She's just a little miss understood
That's all
And if she walks the streets
Does that condemn her soul
Or is heaven so complete [fade]

Slave And Emperor

'Our cavalry have rescued Nazareth from the enemy whose supermen
described Christianity as a creed for slaves.'

The Emperor mocked at Nazareth
In his almighty hour.
The Slave that bowed himself to death
And walked with slaves in Nazareth,
What were his words but wasted breath
Before that 'will to power'?

Yet, in the darkest hour of all,
When black defeat began,
The Emperor heard the mountains quake,
He felt the graves beneath him shake,
He watched his legions rally and break,
And he whimpered as they ran.

'I hear a shout that moves the earth,
A cry that wakes the dead!
Will no one tell me whence they come,
For all my messengers are dumb?
What power is this that comes to birth
And breaks my power?' he said.

Then, all around his foundering guns,
Though dawn was now not far,
The darkness filled with a living fear
That whispered at the Emperor's ear,
'_The armies of the dead draw near
Beneath an eastern star._'

_The trumpet blows in Nazareth.
The Slave is risen again.
Across the bitter wastes of death
The horsemen ride from Nazareth,
And the Power we mocked as wasted breath
Returns, in power, to reign;
Rides on, in white, through Nazareth,
To save His world again._

The Sugar-Plums

No, no, pretty sugar-plums! stay where you are!
Though my grandmother sent you to me from so far;
You look very nice, you would taste very sweet,
And I love you right well, yet not one will I eat.

For the poor slaves have labour'd, far down in the south,
To make you so sweet and so nice for my mouth;
But I want no slaves toiling for me in the sun,
Driven on with the whip, till the long day is done.

Perhaps some poor slave child, that hoed up the ground,
Round the cane in whose rich juice your sweetness was found,
Was flogg'd, till his mother cried sadly to see,
And I'm sure I want nobody beaten for me.

So grandma, I thank you for being so kind,
But your present, to-day, is not much to my mind;
Though I love you so dearly, I choose not to eat
Even what you have sent me by slavery made sweet.

Thus said little Fanny, and skipp'd off to play,
Leaving all her nice sugar-plums just where they lay,
As merry as if they had gone in her mouth,
And she had not cared for the slaves of the south.

The Emulation

Say, Tyrant Custom, why must we obey
The impositions of thy haughty Sway;
From the first dawn of Life, unto the Grave,
Poor Womankind's in every State, a Slave.
The Nurse, the Mistress, Parent and the Swain,
For Love she must, there's none escape that Pain;
Then comes the last, the fatal Slavery,
The Husband with insulting Tyranny
Can have ill Manners justify'd by Law;
For Men all join to keep the Wife in awe.
Moses who first our Freedom did rebuke,
Was Marry'd when he writ the Pentateuch;
They're Wise to keep us Slaves, for well they know,
If we were loose, we soon should make them so.
We yield like vanquish'd Kings whom Fetters bind,
When chance of War is to Usurpers kind;
Submit in Form; but they'd our Thoughts control,
And lay restraints on the impassive Soul:
They fear we should excel their sluggish parts,
Should we attempt the Sciences and Arts;
Pretend they were design'd for them alone,
So keep us Fools to raise their own Renown;
Thus Priests of old their Grandeur to maintain,
Cry'd vulgar Eyes would sacred Laws Profane.
So kept the Mysteries behind a Screen,
There Homage and the Name were lost had they been seen:
But in this blessed Age, such Freedom's given,
That every Man explains the Will of Heaven;
And shall we Women now sit tamely by,
Make no excursions in Philosophy,
Or grace our Thoughts in tuneful Poetry?
We will our Rights in Learning's World maintain,
Wit's Empire, now, shall know a Female Reign,
Come all ye Fair, the great Attempt improve,
Divinely imitate the Realms above:
There's ten celestial Females govern Wit,
And but two Gods that dare pretend to it;
And shall these finite Males reverse their Rules,
No, we'll be Wits, and then Men must be Fools.
