Snake

snakes, scaly, slippery, a cold lump morbidly crawling
through the dark tunnel of memory
some creatures are born cursed
they are spat, and trumpled on
so that the nerves slithered when i actually
came face to face with one at two or three
the black six inch long they called two headed thing
propped my interest further
you dont get to see one often
i could not remember whether it had ended up
under somebody's stick or a parang
but thanks to the snake it helped me
hold onto a figment otherwise
would have been lost on the tail of time
an inert lump resting on cold yellow soil
guilty heavy of heaven and earth
all ready to take the cold and
inhumane blows of the world

once in while a little one would surface
below the neighbour's house,
a short floral ribbon it looked like jewels
on undeserving hands, bothersome foul mud

the impatient neighbour never let it up
coming running with his parang
crashing or splitting it into two
wonder how such a small creature
can elicit such a anger in a big fat farmer

an eerie feel for them led me to
kill one with a stick and to this
day i am struck with the thought
of what karma i have to face
little wriggly creature that
would have done no harm
but then it is a snake

the road between two padi fields
become a killing field during the harvesting season
a dead chamber as little snakes
make their way to to the other side
for better pasture ending up under wheels
they lie each morning crushed, bruised
they become nothing but a charred
brittle piece of leather a few days later
some snakes are aphrodisiac
and I usually wonder whether these
can be Chinese medicine
to heal whatever ailment you
have such as impotence

one morning a flash flood brought
the fate of a little cobra under brother's bed,
the cat agitated had sounded the alarm
with her irritating meows
the cat we then called brother's saviour

we smelt things foul and like the feline came face to face with it
someone screamed cobra as its head had reared
and its neck spanned
the poor little lifeless rope then flew head and tail
through the air, into the flash flood
after it had gone under the stick

as is always with snake it slithers back
to my memory lane each time
somebody mentions snake
a lane of sweet sour sad feeling
of heaven and earth about snakes
of why God even bothers to create it

True Friends? ? ?

the snake slithers around
sneaky not to make a sound
slowly creeps upon his prey
attacks then runs away

beware of him he bites
and does it within his rights
he might be pretty to look at
but truly he's ugly lot

the snake will smother
even kill his own mother

snakes are full of greed
upon your soul he will feed
the snake is a self-adoring creature

The Rinkhals in Muckleneuk Ridge

We were living in the mansion
in Muckleneuk Ridge
when Heinrich wheeled the
rubbish bin out to the street
to leave it for the collectors,
and the red haired neighbour woman
started to shout at him.

I was just getting out of my Volkswagen Polo
and within a minute I was there
like a avenging angel,
telling her to leave the boy alone
and that the pavement
doesn’t belong to her
and that we have got the right
to put out the rubbish bin
for the rubbish collectors.

She got red with anger in her face,
hissed like a snake trying to spit
and cursed me in English
and I told her to get lost.

That woman was aquatically
quite funny and always dressed
in a track suit,
(as if she had no other
type of clothes)
living in a dilapidated house
like a hermit
with rusting sink plate roof
and weeds standing knee high
in her garden
in that rich man’s neighbourhood.

It was when the dogs
tried to catch a half grown coucal
which the wind had blown
out of its nest
and I jumped down the steps
of some terraces
to rescue the poor thing

and I and that wild bird
got to love each other
and it would start to scream
with excitement as soon
as it heard my car
coming near

that Heinrich trapped a venomous
ring-neck spitting cobra
in our garden
and I wanted to kill it
and you said
that even snakes
have a right to live.

I told you that the snake
was apt to kill somebody
as I was leaving for work
and you took the kids
to let it free in the field,
(or so I was told) ,

but a few days later
that utterly rude woman
was really surprised
and screamed for her life
when a snake hissed at her
spitting in her eyes.

[Rinkhals = ring-neck spitting cobra.]

The Cause of Enmity between Snake and Man

Snake, the first owner of fire.
Dog, the robber of fire.
Man the last owner of fire.
The snake gave birth first to fire.
Thus fire, the first born of snake.
Thus snake, only owner of fire long ago.
One cold evening
The man dying of coldness
The dog seen it master dying of coldness
It went to snake house and begged
The snake, the mother of fire to let
It tail get warm of fire
The snake cordially welcomed the dog
The dog twisted it tail on fire
The tail caught the fire
The dog jumped over the snake in door
Ran quickly to it master, the man
The man took the grass and wood
And lit up the fire
The fire lit up in man’s house
And it extinguished in snake’s house
The snake come to get fire back
But the man attack the snake
The hostility between man and snake
Began then

1. The Real Snake Is Twisting In The Mouth

poor snake
life is equal so god says
but look at the snake
look at the snake..
it cant even walk
but slithers and always
at the lowest of place

and everywhere
the message is
it's evil, culprit of the Great Fall

everything the snake
lowly humbly takes
cane, blows and all

you can swing it, you can stretch it
you can bend it in any angle
because it's just a snake

there is a snake too
barely two inches long
yet it's the most pliable of them all
and that's the real one
where the first divine
curse should go

guarded all round
in a red glowing ruby palace
and gleaming pillars of enamel
the cunning and sly creature
in all smugness and warmth
could never get enough of the world
sweet, sour, bitter, salty, hot or cold

it could make satan of god
and god of satan and turn
the world upside down
without even having to leave home
effortless, treacherous as the Niagara Falls

The Snakes I Have Angered

Life is full of problems that we all must face
As we wander through life trying to find our place.
With time and practice we learn the ways that work
And how to find solutions that don't make us look like a jerk.
Problems are like snakes who sometimes want to share our home.
They sneak in without warning and won't leave us alone.
They can hide so quickly and move around so fast
The present often gets tangled up with the memories of the past.
A face to face meeting can be full of fright and pain
But I must take some action or find someone to blame.
To cut off a snake's tail only makes him see red.
To solve the problems I must cut off the head.
Family and friends make easy targets to hit on
When I can't face my problems or want to call it quits
But now it has become plain for me to see
The meanest snake I have angered sometimes lives in me.

Eaten By A Python

looking for a way out,
i slept right next to a snake,
i didnt see it coming,
i see it didn't wait,
i was camping near a tree,
i was in a sleeping bag,
how dumb i was to be right there,
it was the snakes feeding time,
stuck in the snakes gut,
i cant find a way out,
now i know my mistake,
i never should have slept near the snake.

The Snake Man

Slither and Slide
Along the ground they Glide
Looking for somewhere to Hide
And this is Worldwide

So in every little Hole
It's not always a Mole
So you have to have Control
Thats why we have the 'Snake Patrol'

It's the Snake Man
In his little Minivan
He'll russel them Out
We should not Stick About

The snakes were all Caught
And then they were Brought
Far far away
To Live another day

Man Vs Wild! .

snake slithered fast across the land,
through earthen clods and burrows,
moving smooth and fast, held its head
lowered, eyes fixed on target the frog,
took the shortest path, to get on fast.

the man stood in its path holding a club
arrogance writ on his face and weapon,
quickly did the snake abandon its plan
of 'least offense' went in for plan-2
'offense one', and held up its head high,
spread its face wide, fierce and shining
eyes fixed on target, alert, heard nothing
and saw nothing, only the enemy in range.

snake now swayed its head, surveyed
and locked target with confidence, while
man too quickly changed his strategy
in a dramatic way, and took to heels! .

And crawled up in the snake and the ladder game.,
Caught by the giant snake, I stumbled down,
Landing on its tail’s square, to lose the game.

Travel with faith on your path,
Vision on hope when on tunnel
And mind on events that are in hand.
You will have interest till end.

Ballad Of Jingle Jangle Jim (Fun Poem 32)

This is the ballad of Jingle Jangle Jim,
the bravest man there has ever been.
Jingle Jangle was walking through a wooded jungle one day,
when from a bush he heard a maiden call out in distress.
‘Oooh there is a snake in the grass.’
Jingle Jangle being the brave sort,
just jumped over the bush to save the young lass.

He grabbed hold of the six-inch snake in the grass.
The biggest grass snake he ever saw.
He wrassled that snake here and there,
even got it in a scissor grip.
He grabbed it with both hands
and waved it about a bit more,
and then rolled repeatedly on the wooded jungle floor.

The poor little snake looked cross-eyed
at this Jingle Jangle twit.
‘Hey, you idiot, you could have killed me.
Now just what do you think you were doing? ’
Jingle Jangle looked at the snake for a minute.
‘Wait just a minute, snakes don’t talk.’
‘This one can and if you don’t put me down I’ll arrest you,
I‘m an undercover pygmy policeman you see.
I’m on a stake out to catch the thief
who has been stealing Farmer Giles,
beautiful, award winning blue-belles.
Now put me down you Jingle Jangle idiot,
or Ill arrest you for the said crime.’

Jingle Jangle dropped him right there.
The grass snake was as dizzy as hell.
He looked up at Jingle Jangle,
shook his little head.
’Farmer Giles can look after
his own precious bluebells
’cause I quite.
The story is not over just yet,
for Jingle Jangle Jim and the snake
did a moonlight flit
with all of Farmer Giles precious bluebells.
The moral of the story
is never ask a snake in the grass
to look after your precious bluebells.

Scarry moment..

The serpent was in front of me,
But a real king Cobra, so slim,
Sparkling with bluish tint,
Scales glittered with no attempts,
The eyes, piecing as the arrows,
Lifted the head for a foot, narrow,
Tail holds the ground in anger,
Shaking tongue protruded in despair,
The orange mouth opened wider,
The hissing whistle sounds higher,
My trembling hand took the hand phone,
Called the City Hall for assistance,
They told me to ‘snake sit' for a while,
If run away, inform them at once,
I looked at the snake,
The snake looked at me,
My tied dogs looked at us,
They were angry with me,
For I prevented them,
From doing their duty,
I told the snake,
"If I let you go, you will be caught,
Someone may finish you,
Go with our officers,
They will leave you in the jungle,
And you can live happily"
As if it heard what I said,
The snake put down the head,
My dogs and the serpent were quiet,
That moment was so unique,
I stood just ten feet away,
when it was taken away.

In-convenience

Very early in the morning we were woken from our sleep,
We were going on safari, being driven in a jeep,
We went out before our breakfast, we went out before sunrise,
We went out before the sleep had fully vanished from our eyes.
We had to dress quite quickly, and we went out in a rush,
And after we'd been driving through miles and miles of bush
For an hour or two (I have to say forgive the way I speak) ,
But - the roads were very bumpy - I was dying for a leak.
The driver stopped the jeep and kindly offered us a drink,
But it might have been more kind if he had only paused to think;
We had seen a herd of elephants, some vultures in the sky,
Several wildebeest and zebra, a hyena passing by,
Giraffes, a pair of ostriches, a buffalo or two,
And we'd taken lots of photographs (well, that's what tourists do) :
We had even seen some lions lazing underneath a tree,
But... we hadn't seen a toilet... and I really had to pee.
Beside a water-hole at last we found a pair of loos,
And I hurried to the gents', 'cause that's the one I have to use.
Yes, I went up to the gentlemen's, and pushed the door ajar,
But I didn't push it hard, and it didn't open far.
There was something in the way, you see. I did a double-take,
For it looked just like a tail, the last six inches of a snake.
I decided not to panic - I'm not that sort of bloke,
And it could have been a rubber one, left there for a joke -
So I pushed the door wide open, to be sure of no mistake,
And what should I clap eyes on but two yards of living snake!
... I closed the door, quite firmly, and went to tell the guide,
'I was going to the loo, but then I found a snake inside.'
He didn't quite believe me, but he went across to check.
- Not just a snake, a cobra! - 'Gosh, ' I thought, and 'Flipping Heck.'
For the snake looked very supple, and the snake looked very strong,
And if it would uncurl itself, the snake looked very long,
And a cobra's bite is savage, and a cobra's bite is quick,
And if that snake had bitten me, I'd be feeling rather sick.
'It might even be a spitter, judging by the size,
'So don't you go too close, and please be careful of your eyes.'
But I had to take a photograph, for that's what tourists do,
And, warily, I took a snap of the cobra in the loo.
The driver wrote a notice 'Danger, Big Big Snake Inside',
And the lady with the first-aid box took out of it with pride
A strip of sticking plaster to stick it to the door,
To tell anyone who came, there was a cobra on the floor.
By now the snake was moving, it was climbing up the wall;
It hid behind the cistern, and could not be seen at all;
It came down again, and wrapped itself around the waste-pipe neatly,
Then slithered right into the pan and disappeared completely.
Now I was on a mission to tell others what I'd seen,
But I was very conscious of the fact I'd Still Not Been!
So in that situation, though most times I wouldn't dare,
When I found the ladies' empty, I quickly popped in there.

So if you see a man who's coming from the ladies' loos,
Please don't jump to conclusions, he might have a good excuse,
- 'I went to spend a penny, for my need was quite intense,
'And I had to use the ladies' - there's a cobra in the gents'! '

Mr. Slithers

Lying quietly by the fire
Mr. Slithers showed no care
Warm and cosy was he
With no concerns about eternity.

Once he had made a big mistake when
He emerged too early from his den
And lay out on the warm tamarack
Straight as an arrow was his back.

The suns heat was enough to cause
Him to sleep and forget Nature's laws.
For when the sun went down
So did his temperature without a sound.

And there he lay
Till next day
When Ben happened by
And found Mr. Slithers in death's grip nigh.

Picking him up by his tail
Ben deposited him in the pail
That he used to take trash outside
This time he had something of value to bring inside.

For Mr. Slithers was well known
As a black snake that would be just at home
Living in a warm house all his days
Crawling about in snake-like ways.

As he warmed and slowly moved about there
He began to wonder what food was here.
And he discovered that Ben had provided
(But not to his intention it should be noted.)
A bountiful supply of mice and rats
Who live here with Ben and his dog and cats.

So Mr. Slithers took on the task
That would ensure the rodents would see their last
And he helped to rid the house then and there
Of those interlopers that did dare
To invade the house on the country lane
Where Ben lived in comfort, though quite plain.

Of course ridding the house of these pest
Would seem to mean that future meals would be less
But Nature provides an endless supply
Of rodents that come in from outside on the sly.
So Mr. Slithers was assured that his next meal
Was going to be there from the cotton field.

But Mr. Slithers had another
Job which he was expected to shoulder.
For you see Ben's house was without
Locks on the doors to keep intruders out.
So he was expected to provide
Security against those who tried
To steal into Ben's home and take away
Things that Ben saved for another day.

Soon it became known country wide
That within the house a snake was known to hide
And that was quite enough to ensure
That no one entered who had thoughts impure.
(At least when Ben and his dog were away.)

So if you should happen to see
A large black snake merrily
Racing across the yard,
Perhaps its Mr. Slithers on guard.
Or one of his offspring
Who reappear with spring.

dream-The Snake

The snake was held
In another's hand.
Kill it I said,
Before it strikes.

The other struggled
With it
And could not contain
The head.

Beware it will
Strike you.
Get its head
Before it bares
Its fangs.

The snake seemed
Weak.
I rushed in
And pulverized
Its head,
Before it had
A chance to raise
It.

The sight of its
Limp body
Helped me to relax.

It cannot harm
Me now
That red headed
Snake
I've fixed
It.

If I Ever Was a Snake

If I was a snake, my eyes would be green,
I would wander the land and look real mean.
If I was a snake, I'd know how to sting,
Despite all the trouble it would bring.

If I was a snake, I'd be red and gold,
I would slither and slather and eat my mice cold.
If I was a snake, I'd rattle my tail,
But I'd be polite and never go to jail.

If I was a snake, I'd slide on my tummy,
Hamsters and mice would be real yummy.
If I was a snake, I'd live on the ground,
Sleeping and snoring 'till I was found.

I would never learn how to rake,
If I ever was a snake.

I remember the snake on my back and how i remember i should have fought back. The trees dance in scilence the fire now devoures the plains, the snake told me to forget my name. I threw the snake off my back with no sound forcefully it lay dead by the ground. Now i can feel the snake beneath my feet.

Raging Kindness

Suckers of an octopus arm
entwine
like ziplocks
around a bleeding artifact,
for signature erase
on shared bed.

Few oily drops
simmer down
from the wheels,
the raging grief of the centuries.

Arrival had been delayed
of charred remains
of toxic news.
Repair of the ozone layer was garlanded
as a birthday gift.

I did not want the variety of answers.
Snakes and lizards have entered
into the skins of dark men.
You kill a snake,
a bruise comes on the face of the moon.

I See a Snake

I See a Snake
by Terri
written for Snake Blocker

I see a snake through the glass,
A dangerous creature hiding behind a beautiful mask.
Unfamiliar to its charms,
It causes my heart to beat in alarm.

I am more familiar with the silence of a clawed foot.
A sleek coat silhouetted on a mountain, the cat stood.
It's eyes shine brightly in the moon's light.
An echo of a roar in the night.

I only know of one Snake far away for our county's sake.
Glimpses of him shine through his words.
Sadness and despair is heard.

To me I respectfully recognize him as a cat in the wild.
With sharp claws and long fangs, the earth's fearsome child.
A hard exterior fighting strong,
From the wilderness from which he was born.
Muscular and un-waving, with a knife as a claw,
His fighting skills bring man to awe.

But like the cat, he has grace behind that solemn face.
His heart rings pure, we see much more.
A sensitive soul who is a honor to know.
May the snake who is a cat be forever honored where ever he goes.

Head For The Barricade

FIGHT, FIGHT
FIGHT, FIGHT
FIGHT, FIGHT
FIGHT, FIGHT
Sometimes you gotta fight for your right
When your not sure you're in a fight for your life right?
If you ain't packin any tactics
You might get ass kicked
Even if you are you little knucklehead
I'm kinda sick of being aggravated
I'm glad I'm hated
I guess I'm doing something right
But that's what happened back in Columbine
You gotta know when to stop
And not go over the top
Cause there's a chamber deep inside the brain
It's covered with chains
So don't be shaking them loose
And if you do I'll be running for the hills
Cause I'm ready to rock and now we're playing for real
I gotta
FIGHT FIGHT
You better watch out when my adrenaline kicks I gotta
FIGHT FIGHT
IT'S TOO LATE, YOU ALREADY BEEN HIT, DAMN!
STICK 'EM STICK 'EM
STICK 'EM HA HAHA STICK 'EM
STICK 'EM STICK 'EM
YEAH! (Head for the barricades)
STICK 'EM STICK 'EM
STICK 'EM HA HAHA STICK 'EM
STICK 'EM STICK 'EM
YEAH! (Head for the barricades)
This world can make you stick to your stomach so I
Put on my headphones, listen to the Deftones
It's getting crowded in my spaceship
Living in a dream
Running from the hate machine
You know it's,
Such a drag when there's people talking down to ya
Such a drag when everything sucks do ya,
Walk away with spit on your face or do ya,
Draw lines and give them a taste cause I,
Know it's never gonna end
If it happens again I'm going straight for the throat
Another note
Don't forget you had a chance
Now I'm over the sidelines and ready to dance
I gotta
FIGHT FIGHT
You better watch out when my adrenaline kicks I gotta
FIGHT FIGHT
IT'S TOO LATE, YOU ALREADY BEEN HIT, DAMN!
STICK 'EM STICK 'EM
STICK 'EM HA HAHA STICK 'EM
STICK 'EM STICK 'EM

IF YOU GOT THE GUTS (Head for the barricade)
Then come on down (Head for the barricade)
IF YOU GOT THE GUTS (Head for the barricade)
Then come on down (Head for the barricade)
AND HEAD FOR THE BARRICADE
